I'm sure all of you guys already know and love the Okay, Sis Podcast with Scout and Mady. And I was interviewed by them a little while back, the episode was so juicy and I wanted to share it on here because the nature of the conversation was definitely around, the concept of pleasure over pressure, but the way that we weaved it into like how we're perceiving that we need to be busy and our inability to rest. And what happens if we try to rest? And sometimes it feels like chaos in our body Scout totally just called Mady out. Mady was so just vulnerable, talking about what she's been going through with the ability to just kind of lean back and make more decisions from pleasure. And what happens if and all of the really normal questions that I get from people, but can this decision really be made from pleasure? And then bringing the conversation into Scout being a new mom and just how your priorities change. The nourishment of this particular episode was so good that I was really, really excited to share that with you guys in my community. So without further ado, this is the recording from the interview that Scout and Mady did with me on the Okay, Sis Podcast. Its easy to assume that because you are an introvert, that you are not going to feel comfortable showing up online. I hear that all the time. That is why this conversation needed to happen, because that is just a misconception. Being introverted and being fearful of showing up online is indeed two different things. Your fear of showing up online stems from a deeper rooted fear. It could be a fear of: Failure Being embarrassed Other people's opinions People not relating Whatever that fear is, THAT is what is holding you back from showing up online. Not from being introverted. Guess what - When I started doing FB lives, I would sweat through my shirt I was so nervous. Every time I do something new, I will sweat right through my shirt. You need to get uncomfortable to learn how to be comfortable with doing something new. You need to work through that fear and anxiety around the challenge that you face, or the challenge will win. Scout Sobel & I are chatting today about this major misconception - both as introverts who indeed are very much online. Having been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type 2 at the age of 20, Scout Sobel dropped out of college, couldn't keep a job, and struggled to function as a part of society. It wasn't until she found entrepreneurship a few years later that she found a purpose and a drive to be productive, creative, and take control of her life. Now, Scout Sobel is the Author of The Emotional Entrepreneur, Host of the Okay Sis Podcast, and Founder of Scout's Agency. Most of all, she's an advocate for people, especially women, to persevere in building the business of their wildest dreams, despite the hardships, challenges, or mental illness they experience. Many people fear entrepreneurship not because of a lack of resources, funding, or education, but because they're afraid to put themselves out there and start the journey. Do you resonate? Scout Sobel is the founder of Scout's Agency, co-host of the popular Okay Sis Podcast, and the host of SCOUT Podcast. She started Scout's Agency with an emphasis in podcast PR for women entrepreneurs, podcasters, and brands. Scout has also lived with bipolar disorder for the last 15 years. She was once unable to function in society, but after finding entrepreneurship and taking radical responsibility over her emotions, she is now able to live a life of purpose. She has just released her first book, The Emotional Entrepreneur.
“Entrepreneurship and starting your own business is just one big personal development game.” Scout Sobel is a trailblazer in the media industry. She is the founder of Scout's Agency, the co-host of Okay Sis Podcast, and the host of SCOUT Podcast. But growing up, she suffered from emotional paralysis, experiencing her first bout of anxiety in kindergarten. A depressive episode in high school led to therapy intervention, followed by paranoia in college. When she was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 20, Scout thought her life was over. She painfully watched friends succeed while she failed to hold down part-time jobs as a college drop-out. It wasn't until faced with losing her boyfriend that she started taking responsibility for the cards she was dealt instead of blaming God for giving them to her. She sought out resources for her mental illness, got a job and took community college classes. Her brain kicked into high gear when she started a magazine with a friend… leading her down the path of entrepreneurship. Listen in as Scout vulnerably shares how accepting, allowing and honoring her emotions has been critical to her success as an entrepreneur and as a human. Her first book, “Emotional Entrepreneur,” guides women through the emotional challenges of launching, running, and scaling a business. “I've made a contract with myself that no matter what happens or what emotion happens in that moment, I will love my life unconditionally.” --Scout Sobel Grab a copy of her book here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578951754. Women in Business: Inspirational Stories of Women Entrepreneurs
The perfect path to entrepreneurship doesn’t exist. All entrepreneurs have gone through their own journey. They’ve experienced success and failure, and have changed direction in their business. My guest, Scout Sobel, is no different and she joins me to talk about mental health, entrepreneurship, and finding her goldmine. Scout is the founder of Scout’s Agency, a PR firm working with female podcasters to help them find guests and guest appearances. But Scout’s journey hasn’t been smooth. With a Bipolar Disorder diagnosis, Scout left school to figure out what her destiny was. She also had to learn how to balance that with her new mental health diagnosis. Scout explains how she discovered entrepreneurship by creating a magazine that got picked up by Barnes and Noble. Even though she realized that this wasn’t the right direction for her, her entrepreneurial spirit was born. Her journey has taken her through different iterations of what her business is. Now that she’s found something that makes her heart sing, she’s thriving. In her own words, Scout explains what the Entrepreneurial Spirit is. Each entrepreneur has their own definition of this phrase and I love Scout’s simple explanation. Ultimately, it’s having that drive and determination to work for yourself above anyone else. She shares the journey she’s been on into her own business. It’s not been without difficulties, especially when paired with her mental health, but the journey has been part of the adventure. With Scout’s Agency, Scout knows she’s created a winning business because she’s passionate about it every day. Now that she’s created a physical office space, Scout has to decide how to grow her company’s culture. When you’re intentional about the direction you want to take your office culture, you can create an amazing, welcoming, and thriving work environment. One of Scout’s values is the self-employed approach where she lets her employees have a certain sense of autonomy. Scout believes that the most important part of entrepreneurship is learning to trust and love yourself. When you believe in yourself and you love yourself enough to trust everything you’re doing, you will succeed in business. Has your business idea changed and grown over the years? Tell me about your entrepreneurial journey! Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode: Why your business might go through a few iterations before you find the perfect fit for you What the Entrepreneurial Spirit is What the entrepreneurial journey looks like What happens when you create something that you’re truly passionate about How to intentionally grow an office culture Why you need to believe in and love yourself in order to succeed in business Quotes: “I think that’s what entrepreneurs do. You do as many things as you can until the right thing comes and you hit the goldmine.” (13:37) “If you work 8 hours a day for someone else, believe me, you can put that same amount of time into your dream.” (15:15) “I think that as an entrepreneur, you have such an amazing opportunity to create something that’s never been around before.” (24:48) Links Find Scout Sobel Online Find Scout Sobel on Instagram Find Scout Podcast on Instagram Find Scout’s Agency on Instagram | Online Find Okay Sis on Instagram Find Dr. Cortney Baker Online Follow Dr. Cortney Baker on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | LinkedIn Join From Side Hustle to CEO on Facebook Subscribe to Women in Business on Apple Podcasts Are you a female millennial entrepreneur who wants to start or scale your service-based business but not sure where to start? Empowered to Rise: The Secret to Embracing Your True Identity, Uncovering Your Super Powers, and Bringing Your Inspiration to the World - get it on Amazon!Scout Sobel is the founder of Scout’s Agency, a PR agency that specializes in podcasts and women’s voices, brands, and companies, the co-host of Okay Sis Podcast, and the host of SCOUT Podcast. After starting Okay Sis, which focuses on female guests, Scout fell in love with spreading women's stories. She started Scout's Agency with an emphasis in podcast PR to do just that with 90% of her clients being women. She built Scout's Agency to a revenue of 6 figures in her first year. This did not come without her own trials and tribulations. Scout has been living with a severe case of bipolar disorder for 14 years and experiences a plethora of symptoms such as depression, anxiety, hypomania, catatonia, and psychosis. She once was unable to hold a job, go to school, or function in today's society. With a lot of self-development work, therapy, and garnering up tools in her tool box, Scout manages her bipolar disorder successfully and uses her mental strength that she has created in herself to fuel her entrepreneurial dreams. These experiences led her to host her own podcast, SCOUT, where are all solo episodes of her tackling a mental health topic with a dose of entrepreneurship.Connect with Scout:ScoutSobel.comScoutsAgency.comSCOUT PodcastOkay Sis PodcastInstagramTwitterLinkedInFacebookDon’t Miss A Single Episode:Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, or Stitcher.Leave a quick review on any of the podcast apps to tell people what you think about the show.Take a screenshot of the podcast and post it on Instagram or Instagram Stories.
