Alexander Johnson has been a key player for the Denver Broncos defense over the course of the last couple of seasons. As the 2021 NFL season approaches, Johnson has more expectations on him from Head Coach Vic Fangio as it relates to his defense. After the third day of pads at Broncos Camp at the UCHealth Training Center, the Broncos continued to sharpen up offensively and defensively as the intensity amplified. Noah Fant, Nick Vannett, Davontae Harris, and Bradley Chubb all missed Wednesday's practice, but Broncos head coach Vic Fangio provided all of us with updates regarding their statuses. Also, the Broncos battle for the third cornerback spot is tightly contested and Fangio provides clarity as to whether or not any one player is pulling away in the competition. Last season the Denver Broncos defense struggled against the run in the first four weeks of the 2019 regular season. Once Todd Davis and Alexander Johnson became the starting duo at the Mike and Will positions, the team went from being 30th ranked against the run to 16th at the end of the season. Both Davis and Johnson led the team in tackles with Davis at first with 136 tackles, and Johnson contributing 96 tackles. In our Projecting Depth Series, we analyze the inside linebacker position and discuss the starters and the backups behind them.The NFL anticipates that NFL Training Camp will start on time, but there is some concern from the NFLPA and the Players Union about a start time in July.
