In this action-packed and hilarious episode of Backstage Pass with Gentry Thomas, Bob Odenkirk joins Gentry to talk about his new film Normal, a kinetic neo-Western action thriller directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Derek Kolstad. Bob stars as Ulysses, an unassuming substitute sheriff with a troubled past who takes a quiet posting in a small town, only to get pulled into a dangerous conspiracy after a bank robbery reveals something far more explosive beneath the surface. Fans can watch the trailer for Normal Here --> Normal - Official Trailer Bob and Gentry dive into what makes Normal such a wild ride, including the fun of working on action movies filled with chaos, guns, danger, and dark comedy. Bob also talks about working alongside the great Henry Winkler, why he believes Henry is such a gifted actor, and what it was like sharing scenes with him. The conversation also goes deep into Bob’s comedy roots. He shares what it’s like writing sketch comedy, including the legendary “Motivational Speaker” sketch with Chris Farley, and how that kind of writing helped shape his voice as a performer. Of course, Bob also reflects on playing Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, why audiences connected so deeply with the character, and how Saul became one of television’s most unforgettable personalities. From sketch comedy to prestige TV to full-throttle action, this episode is packed with stories, laughs, and insight from one of the most versatile performers in entertainment.

This week's episode of The Interviews sees Chris Hewitt sit down face-to-face with the legend that is Saul Goodman/Jimmy McGill/Gene Takavic, the one and only Bob Odenkirk. The comedy great was in town to talk about his latest pivot into action movies, with Ben Wheatley's wild romp, Normal, and the two of them also talk about sketch comedy, Odenkirk's love of movies, his aversion to horror movies (in which he possibly spoils the end of Zach Cregger's Weapons, so be careful), and more. Then, Helen O'Hara leaps onto Zoom and has a chat about how the times are a-changin' in The Devil Wears Prada 2, with that film's writer, Aline Brosh McKenna. Enjoy!
Fly, you fools! Yes, that's right, Ian McKellen — the legendary English actor who is Gandalf and Magneto, get over it — is our guest on this week's Empire Podcast, as John Nugent pops over to McKellen's own pub, The Grapes in Limehouse, for a lovely chat about his new film, Steven Soderbergh's The Christophers. [46:32 - 1:00:02 approx] Speaking of Christophers, back in the podbooth Chris Hewitt is joined by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and Harry Stainer for a fun episode in which they discuss the greatest characters who joined franchises after the first film, and whether event cinema is making a comeback. They also run their eye over the week's movie news, including news of a possible Tintin 2, and review Curry Barker's Obsession, The Christophers, The Punisher: One Last Kill, and Ben Wheatley's Bob Odenkirk action fest, Normal. Enjoy!
Giddy up cowboys, here comes another edition of The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X podcast! Yeehaw! The team were all back together and it's been a fun old week, and now you have a fun-filled podcast to try and make sense of! We have some of returning favourites, like your “I was today years old when I learned…” submissions to The Stupid Amnesty, a Who Are You guest keeping Chris and Dom on their toes as they guess who someone is without any clues, and we hear a round of Drums Please which one of those fun music guessing games that Chris will probably end up winning!Plus, we have a host of brilliant guests for you…Chris was, and didn't hide it at all, incredibly giddy to chat to the brilliant actor, Bob Odenkirk. We all love him for Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and those couple great episodes of The US Office, and now his newest movie Normal! All the people, so many people will love hearing our interview with Graham Cox from Blur! He was back chatting with Chris being titled a “reluctant rockstar” and telling us about his new album Castle Park, which he recorded in 2012 and we're all thankful that it will see the light of day in 2026!We made a few jokes that Rhys James only just made time to come and see us, as he's on so many panel shows all the time, but we were delighted to see him and hear about his new stand up tour Chop Logic! We want to spoil you, so that's not all! Another week, another national treasure. This week Simon Mayo talks to Olivia Colman, joined by Sophie Hyde, director of the new film Jimpa, in which Olivia stars. The film explores queerness, intergenerational family, and gender fluidity, and places kindness firmly at its heart - but will that be enough for Mark? You'll have to listen to his verdict in this week's Take Two to find out. In this week's reviews: The Christophers stars last week's guest Sir Ian McKellen as a once‑great artist whose awful children plan to forge his unfinished paintings for their own financial gain. Obsession is a creepy love‑horror that's far too much for Simon, but which Mark is more than happy to peer into. And finally, Normal drops Bob Odenkirk and Henry Winkler into a Fargo‑esque Minnesota small town packed with axe‑throwing, car‑blowing‑up oddballs. Sounds fun - but will Mark enjoy it? Oh. On this week's podcast, we check out Normal, which features Bob Odenkirk as a hangdog lawman who's been assigned as the temporary sheriff of a small town in Minnesota called Normal. But, you guessed it, it turns out this sleepy town and its quaint residents aren't that normal at all. Much punching, shooting and exploding ensues in this B-movie action flick from director Ben Wheatley and writer Derek Kolstad, who created the John Wick and Nobody franchises. Then we're off to Malaysia for Queer as Punk, a meditative documentary following the queer punk band Shh... Diam!, whose music and existence stand in protest against the rise of anti-LGBTQ sentiment from the Malaysian government. And finally, after much discussion and confusion on The CineSkinny WhatsApp group chat, we discuss the subtle art of cinematography and ask what draws people to certain cinematographic styles and aesthetics… or something. Despite the snowy setting, law-enforcement-officer protagonist, and pointed poking at the idea of "Minnesota Nice," Ben Wheatley's new Bob Odenkirk-starring shoot-'em-up Nowhere is in many ways the anti-Fargo. Is it fair to compare this scrappy (some might even say sloppy) genre effort to a film as revered as the Coen brothers' comedic crime classic? Maybe not, but that's what we do here at The Next Picture Show, so after a spirited debate over which parts of Nowhere we found the most enervating, we turn to Connections to consider how the two films' many overlapping elements can play out in such different ways. Then we keep the Fargo talk going in Your Next Picture Show via a general recommendation for its FX television offshoot, and a specific recommendation for which of its five anthology seasons to start with. Please share your thoughts about Fargo, Normal, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. Joe Escalante's weekly prodding of the business end of showbiz. This week: Joe talks about the lawsuit against Howard Stern, and how, when you work with certain people, you kinda need to know what you're getting into, and what to expect... Also, there was a leaked memo of some new restrictions at Disneyland... Fortunately, none of them are stopping Bats Day from happening TODAY at Disney. Look out for stronger enforcement of selfie stick bans, and NO MORE CUTTING IN LINE. WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! In the box office, The Devil Wears Prada 2 made a HUGE splash, as the early Summer film season kicks off. Joe saw Normal with Bob Odenkirk, and LOVED it. I have a 5 Starburst a day habit, I need an intervention. Wrap up on the Buffalo trip. There's a Django/Zorro team up movie announced, but they'll probably fuck it up. End of the line for Misfits (as far as these people are involved, anyway). I started a new job, and the transition has been rough, to say the least. I gave money to a homeless person for the first time in years, but the reason will shock you. (Possibly even pick you up and drop you) I went to see Eric Rocha in Ventura and was miserable, and I also went to see Normal, the new Bob Odenkirk movie. (And basically was also miserable)

As a comedic crime thriller set in snowy Minnesota and featuring a sheriff protagonist, it would be pretty tough for the new Bob Odenkirk-starring shoot-em-up Normal to avoid comparisons to Fargo, and since we will never pass up an opportunity to discuss the Coen Brothers' 1996 classic, that's precisely what we will be comparing it to next week. But first we'll spend this week discussing why Fargo remains so discussable even after multiple viewings, what makes Marge Gunderson — or maybe Jerry Lundegaard — such an effective protagonist, and how the film's unusual structure and tonal shifts can take even the most seasoned viewer by surprise. Then in Feedback, we keep The Drama going with an encore presentation of our disagreement about that film's ending. When you think of some small town in Minnesota, do you think of action, intrigue, explosive excitement? No? Me neither. I think of ice augers, hot dish and grumpy old men, not automatic weapons, rocket launchers and C4 explosives. This week's movie, “Normal”, might just blow your mind about small town Minnesota. Bob Odenkirk stars as Sheriff Ulysses Richardson who is serving as the temporary sheriff in the small town of Normal, Minnesota. At first it's what he expects. Overly friendly people, potlucks and snow. Along the way, he sees some suspicious things that make his curiosity alarm bells go off such as the police armory with a weapons stockpile you could invade a small country with. Then a bank robbery lights the fuse on the town having to reveal its dark secret to the new sheriff and soon it's adios Minnesota nice, hello Minnesota mayhem. Is it worth checking this out at the theater? Watch this episode of Movies Merica to find out! “Normal” also stars Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Lena Headey, Henry Winkler, Reena Jolly, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda, Jess McLeod and David Lawrence Brown. I guess you think you're... you know, like an authority figure, with that stupid fuckin' uniform, huh buddy? Bob Odenkirk goes from Nobody to playing a “Normal” small-town interim sheriff. Teaming up again with Derek Kolstad, does he bring the same mix of dry humor and sudden violence that made their last series work? And with Henry Winkler in the wintery mix, are we getting something closer to the quirky crime chaos of Fargo, or just another round of bumbling crooks? Nearly nobody went to see this in theaters, but our hosts did, and you can join them now for this far-from-normal movie review!
SPOILER'D: Bob Odenkirk Fights a Town & Lee Cronin Fights His Own ScriptNo spoiler-free zone here — we're going all the way in. Jose and Mike break down two of 2026's most surprising genre entries back to back.First up: Ben Wheatley's Normal, where Bob Odenkirk rolls into a small town as an interim sheriff and slowly realizes every single person around him is armed, paid off, and protecting a Yakuza treasure vault. We talk about what makes this feel like a grounded, gorier version of Nobody and how Wheatley's genre-blending sensibility makes Normal feel like the neo-noir Western we didn't know we needed. Then we pivot to Lee Cronin's The Mummy, the divisive body horror family drama that's also an exorcism film that's also a Sam Raimi Evil Dead riff that's also a revenge movie. We love Cronin, and there's real craft here, but we dig into why the film's identity crisis keeps it from landing as hard as it could. From the Nazmaranian demon mythology to the dentures scene to that wild epilogue, nothing is off limits.GET INTO OUR NEW SPOILER'D BREAKDOWN!- - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!FOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. Normal & The Mummy: A Double Feature Worth Your Time (Spoiler-Free) | WatchSkip+Cupcake and Mike are doing something a little different this week — a genuine double feature review, clocking in under 30 minutes. First, they dig into Normal (2025), the new Ben Wheatley action-comedy written by Derek Kolstad and Bob Odenkirk. Is it just Nobody again? Not even close — and the guys break down why this deeply weird, gory, surprisingly soulful film deserves your attention in theaters right now. Then they turn to Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2025), the Blumhouse/Atomic Monster horror that has the internet divided. Jack Reynor leads a cast through something that plays less like a classic mummy tale and more like a psychological body horror spiral in the vein of Evil Dead Rise and Pet Sematary. Both hosts have verdicts. Neither one will spoil a thing — that's what Sunday's SPOILER'D episode is for.- - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!FOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. Bob Odenkirk joins us for a layered and unexpectedly vulnerable conversation about reinvention, ego, and mortality. Bob breaks down the exact moment he decided to pivot from comedy and Saul Goodman into full blown action films, why he refused to wink at the audience in Nobody, and how real life rage from a home invasion became creative fuel. He also opens up about collapsing on set from a heart attack, losing a week of memory, and the hard reality of limited time at 63. Bob Odenkirk has pivoted from sketch comedy to dramatic acting and, most recently, to late-middle-aged action star. In the new film Normal, he plays a small-town sheriff who finds out his small town isn't so normal after all, which will of course require some sexagenarian butt-kicking. The cast includes Henry Winkler and Lena Headey, and was written by Derek Kolstad, the mind behind the John Wick franchise.
