Welcome back metalheads to another episode of The Great Metal Debate podcast. Its Xander back with a new album review. Today we will be briefly talking about my thoughts on the new album from Hulder titled Verses In Oath. Those of you not in the loop, Hulder is a one woman black metal band from Washington State. I had heard the name Hulder muttered a few times on the internet over the past few years and I mistakenly thought it was an old school black metal band. But sometime last spring, I decided to give her a listen and discovered that Godslastering: Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry was the one and only album released by her on Iron Bonehead Productions back in 2020. I remember thinking the album was okay but before I began listening to Verses In Oath, I figured it would be a good idea to revisit the debut. In the past week, I have listened to the debut twice in a row because I ended up being kinda impressed when I really paid a lot more attention. For Verses In Oath, we see that she has now signed with 20 Buck Spin. And 3 weeks ago, black metal promotion uploaded the first new music video for "Hearken The End". I had listened to the single only a couple times before I got my hands on the promo and even after listening to Verses In Oath front to back 3 times, I can confidently say that ... Godslastering is better. Sorry. Don't get me wrong, Versus In Oath is a decent record but its a small step down. It all begins with the obligatory intro track where all you hear is the sound of crows cawing followed by some thunder. Its very generic and cliche compared to the first song on the debut which was "Upon Frigid Winds". That was a great way to kick off a first album, not some build-up to a forgettable track like "Boughs Ablaze". Going back to that single "Hearken The End". It don't mind the hypnotic chanting/choir esq clean vocals she does but it seems like the guitar throughout the majority of these songs are washed out in the mix with the other instruments. Its certainty a far cry from a song like "Creature of Demonic Majesty". The album title track didn't really do much for me either but one thing about this record that I thought was silly was the two interlude tracks. Why couldn't the operatic sirens of "Lamentation" just be combined into the same track as "An Offering"? "Cast Into The Well Of Remembrance" was a song that stood out to me because of the synth work and the acoustic guitar moment. Too bad it was faded out in the studio mix and was overpowered by the drum cymbals being too loud. Plus there was that mild tempo change where the electric guitar and the vocals both sped up together. The remaining three songs didn't stand out much to me as they all kinda sounded too similar. This type of black metal definitely appeals to a certain crowd being both avant-garde and a little on the raw side. Again, I must clarify that both of Hulder's records are decent but are not what I would rank as top tier. I applaud anyone who is a one person band because it shows both musicianship and dedication. I can also appreciate how her lyrics are more focused on medieval folklore instead of the tired satanic theme we're all used to seeing. So if you think you'd be into this, I'm sure you'll be able to buy her digital files and merchandise on her Bandcamp page. But in conclusion, I'll rate Versus In Oath with a 5/10.

By now, and as one of 20 Buck Spin's longest running acts, the death metal institution Vastum needs zero intro from us, or you for that matter. Album number five, Inward To Gethsemane, continues the stomach churning filthiness they've so readily displayed but this time the songwriting and delivery has some incredible punch to it. The band has been long time favorites of most of us on staff but none moreso than our very own Buke who got the opportunity to chat with guitarist, vocalist, and synth master Leila Abdul Rauf and vocalist Daniel Butler about the album, some band history, and tons of other stuff along the way. Needless to say he was excited, as we are to bring you this conversation so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy. If you've been following along, The Enduring Spirit (20 Buck Spin) by Tomb Mold is an all encompassing hit for the Nine Circles crew and we pretty much blew our load talking about it on this interview right here. But, we're back in crowd format to blow the last bit of load we have left on it since it truly is that good of a death metal album. You know how these things work: the team picks an album from the month as a favorite then discuss then go over everything else that struck a chord then go over life and whatnot. Fun was had by all as the convo went literally all over the place so grab a comfy seat, your preferred beverage, and enjoy. 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
2017 saw the debut full length release, Primordial Malignity, of Ontario's Tomb Mold and without knowing it changed death metal forever. It basically made everyone take notice and up their games. Now, with their fourth full length The Enduring Spirit (20 Buck Spin), they do the same thing yet again. It's challenging and fluid yet melodious, brutal and unforgiving yet accessible, wildly technical yet super catchy without any sort of cliches. It's been a homerun here at Nine Circles pretty much across the board so we're extremely excited that Buke got the chance to chat it up with guitarist Payson Power and drummer / vocalist Max Klebanoff to shed some light on the band, new album, some backstory, and so much more. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy. Huge thanks to Payson and Max for their time!9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram.

California's VoidCeremony are readying their second full length Threads Of Unknowing (20 Buck Spin) and if you dabbled with their debut, then you already know we're all going to be in for a hectic black and death metal ride. With this band, it's far more than just those two genres, the way they cross the chasm with their music is akin to the old style of jazz improv which to some says prog but to us it's just...massive. Just ahead of the album's release, Buke spoke to mastermind, vocalist and lead guitarist Garrett Johnson about the album, how it came to be, some band history, and so much more. Väl mött!Låtlista:Strychnos - Blessed Be The Bastard Reign (A Mother's Curse / Dark Descent)Fange - À La Racine (Privation / Throatruiner)Ulthar - Flesh Propulsion (Anthronomicon / 20 Buck Spin)Oak - Disintegrate I (Disintegrate / Season Of Mist)Negative Blast - Trauma Bond (Echo Planet / Quiet Panic)Ascension - Megalomaniac (Under The Veil Of Madness / Self-released)Majesties - The World Unseen (Vast Reaches Unclaimed / 20 Buck Spin)
The second Tuesday of every month we will be hosting a playlist of extreme metal curated by Futhark Records owner and founder, Claus Nader. In this latest episode, Claus shares with us the death metal tunes that pollute the ears of those who visit his store. Ep. 79 - Tanner Anderson, Carl Skildum, and Matthew Kirkwold. In this episode I talk with the 3 members of Majesties from Minnesota, The members of Majesties are also in some other awesome bands. Tanner is in the black metal band Obsequiae. Carl and Matt are both in the black metal band Inexorum and the thrash band Antiverse. Majesties just released their album "Vast Reaches Unclaimed" on March 3rd via 20 Buck Spin. Majesties play a style of melodic death metal reminiscent of the early 1990's Gothenburg Sweden movement. I like to think of it as the album In Flames never wrote after ‘The Jester Race'. This album is definitely a tribute to the early 1990's Gothenburg melodic death metal movement. We talk about the formation of Majesties, how they bonded over melodic death metal, and the new album. I really enjoyed their new album and was honored to talk with the band who just released one of the best albums of 2023. I hope everyone enjoys this episode. It's Album of the Month time again and for this edition, Ulthar's third AND fourth full lengths, Anthronomicon and Helionomicon (20 Buck Spin) won the most votes. For those keeping score of these sorts of things, the votes weren't unanimous but really close. Buke once again captains the episode along with Ian, Dan M, Colin, Hera, and Vince. The conversation pretty much dives head first into the album, how it compares to the band's first two, and deep thoughts surrounding it all and Ian gets lengthy runtime here since he nailed the double review. Elsewhere, the gang spends a good portion of the runtime gushing over everything else they listened to since they last spoke, and the usual banter back and forth on literally anything and everything. In other words, just another Album of the Month episode of the Nine Circles Audio Thing.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Ep. 77 - Justin Ennis (Ulthar). In this episode I talk with Justin Ennis drummer of the black/death metal band Ulthar. Ulthar is out of Oakland, CA and just released 2 new albums on Feb 17th ‘Anthronomicon' and ‘Heliomonicon'. Be sure to check out their new albums on all streaming platforms (links below). We talk about how Justin got into playing black metal, previous bands, and how he formed Ulthar. Again, everyone should check out Ulthar's new albums by streaming or purchasing physical copies on 20 Buck Spin's website. If anyone would‘ve hinted at Obsequiae and Inexorum combining forces in a new band, Majesties brand of 90s loving meloswedeath would not have been the first assumption. Yet, here we are on the eve of Vast Reaches Unclaimed (20 Buck Spin) and it's an absolute beast of an album full of everything fans loved about that timeframe in melodic death metal. It's almost as if these guys wrote the next chapter of the genre and the past twenty five years never happened. Buke recently sat down with Matthew Kirkwold (bass), Carl Skildum (guitars), and Tanner Anderson (guitars, vocals, drums) to get the lowdown on this new band and album, how it came to be, and so much more. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy. 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram.

Album of the Month time again and for November the winner was Dream Unending's second full length Song of Salvation (20 Buck Spin). The usual gang of suspects, along with some new blood, join in along with our main man on the mic Buke leading the charge. The gang spends time covering how this album compares to their last and why this one somersaults over their last effort. Elsewhere, the gang spends a good portion of the runtime gushing over everything else they listened to since they last spoke. That and the usual banter back and forth on literally anything and everything. In other words, just another episode of the Nine Circles Audio Thing.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

The Genre Deathmatch has descended upon us as Franny and Wrecker break down what would happen if metal genres met on the field of battle in this tournament style fight to the death! This episode's live reviews sees Neckwrecker spouting the importance of Zeal & Ardor, and the mind bending insanity that is Imperial Triumphant. The Druids pull back the curtain of secrecy on what they have been listening to as Franny gushes over a little known band called Death and their album Human, while Wrecker is still on the 20 Buck Spin kick with Tzompantli. It's been awhile since last hearing from Daeva. Five years to be exact. And since that time they've taken their brand of sweaty, priest burning black / thrash metal to a whole new level. Their EP, Pulsing Dark Absorptions, was a lightning rod, but debut full length Through Sheer Will And Black Magic… (20 Buck Spin) will turn heads far below the southern end of the cross. To put it in quick layman's terms; imagine Mayhem and GG Allin in a knife fight and you're in the realm of what's included here. Buke recently spoke with guitarist Steve Jansson and drummer Enrique Sagarnaga about the new album, how it came to be, their much lauded Crypt Sermon ties, and a ton more. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy. 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
It's been five years since Acephalix last graced the death metal scene and a lot has happened in that stretch of time. But, the band's upcoming fourth full length, Theothanatology (20 Buck Spin), is the kind of barbaric brutality we've come to think of from the now quintet, yet better, more furious, and nastier than ever. While it's true we'll have to wait just a bit longer to hear it in full, Buke sat down with bassist Erika Osterhout for a wide ranging discussion surrounding this new album, the meaning behind the title, and so much more. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy. 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Northern Scene's long term vision is to be a single source for whatever record you want in the metal, core, and punk realms. Needing to up our game, on the metal side of things, we listened when the customers told us what they want, enter 20 Buck Spin. One of the best labels in the game, we have a whole host of titles available now and on Episode 9 of Northern Scene Radio, we are going to feature some of them. 1. Terminal Nation – “Curators of Brutaility”2. Khemmis – “The Seer”3. Cerebral Rot – “Spewing Purulence”4. Spirit Adrift – “Harmony Of The Spheres”5. Tomb Mold – “Accelerative Phenomenae”6. WORM – “Empire of The Necromancers”7. Predatory Light – “To Plead Like Angels”8. Wode – “Serpent's Coil”
Number 18 on the list is the groundbreaking, influential gore grind/death metal recard Symphonies of Sickness by Carcass. This is a big one for modern death metal, especially if you like all the hardcore adjacent stuff you might find on Maggot Stomp or 20 Buck Spin.
As far as debuts go, The Word of His Law (20 Buck Spin) from Canada's Egregore is a masterclass in black and death metal shrouded in mysticism, death, and occult themes. The use of synth, chanting, and even neofolk serve as vessels to enhance the experience and make for a unique outing. Buke recently sat down with Egregore to discuss the new album and how it came to be. They also discussed the band's musical journeys, as well as the importance of letting the music speak for itself and preference for the listeners to draw their own conclusions and opinions about it. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

David Stepanavicius of Atræ Bilis is no stranger to the podcast as he and Buke discussed Apexapien (20 Buck Spin) at length back in November and it was such an electric discussion that Buke reached back out to have David on again to discuss all things Best of 2021. The two catch up a bit since last time then launch into their biggest disappointments of 2021, their Honorable Mentions, and their collective Top 10. They also discuss Best of lists in general and how an artist / band views list season, how music usually finds David and how much labels play a part in it, whether Chris Barnes or memes are better, upcoming things for Atræ Bilis, and so much more. You'll definitely want to keep a pen and paper handy as they cover a ton of great albums, forty in total. No surprise here at all, this is an excellent discussion!Huge thanks to David for joining us once again and we're already looking forward to the next one!9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Vancouver's Atræ Bilis made quite the splash with last year's EP Divinihility and nearly overnight made them a household name in any house that heralds death metal. A quick year later here we are with their debut full length Apexapien and they prove the success of that EP was no joke. From start to finish, this album is an absolute beast with teeth big enough to tear the planet in two. It hits hard as a ton of bricks but is amazingly smart in its construction. Not clinging to any one leg of death metal it blazes its own path forward with Albert Einstein level riffs and chest crushing blows around every corner. It goes without saying, this album is a favorite for us here at Nine Circles and for good reason. For this discussion, Buke had an epic length chat with David about the new album and some backstory on it, how it's been working with 20 Buck Spin and owner David Adelson as well as the huge impact 20 Buck has made on the extreme metal landscape, a lengthy back and forth appreciation chat on metal of all sorts, and David's favorite strain of death metal and what got him hooked. They also cover Mortician, pandemic effects, David's life in Australia and the move to Canada and what spawned that decision, a pitch of an album and song choice from grindcore to get Buke into it and the key to knowing you've found a great grindcore album, and five desert island album picks. All this and so much more is covered in this excellent discussion so dive in and enjoy.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Ep. 33 - Tzompantli. On this episode I talk with Brian Ortiz from Tzompantli, Mortuary Punishment, and Xibalba. On this podcast we focus on Tzompantli which is a death/funeral doom project that incorporates Mesoamerican & Mexica/Aztec culture and history. Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 178 features an interview with Johnny Urnripper of Ghastly. As I discussed with the authors of Rotting Ways To Misery: The History of Finnish Death Metal, there has been a resurgence in the Finnish death metal scene, with a plethora of new bands taking up the mantle once held by Demigod and the like. To whit: the three-piece Ghastly, who combine the characteristic Finnish death metal sound with dark psychedelia. I spoke with guitarist/vocalist Johnny Urnripper about Ghastly's history, their writing process, and his feelings about the band being described as "psychedelic". We also discussed their third album Mercurial Passages, which will be coming out on 20 Buck Spin at the end of May. My thanks to Johnny for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening. Here is Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 172, featuring Wode. This interview with Manchester's Wode has been a long time coming. A mutual friend has been prodding me to interview the band for years - and as they're about to release their third album through 20 Buck Spin, it didn't seem like something I could put off any longer. I spoke with drummer Tim Horrocks and guitarist/vocalist Michael Czerwoniuk about Wode's history, and how the various members became involved in the band. They also broke down their songwriting process, and how they went into the creation of their upcoming album Burn In Many Mirrors with a "clean slate". My thanks to Tim and Mike for speaking with me, my buddy Knut for bringing them to my attention, and to you for listening. Music In This Episode: "Temple Interment" taken from the album Servants of the Countercosmos "Trails of Smoke" taken from the album Wode "Fire In The Hills" "Vanish Beneath" "Lunar Madness" taken from the album Burn In Many Mirrors Interviews, reviews, and more at www.dreamsofconsciousness.com
The queer take on heavy metal this week takes on an unlikely Camp Classic in the shape of Disturbed. Yes, that Disturbed. David Draiman and co. Really. We're also offered an important perspective on how being trans and gay at metal shows compares to being trans and gay in gay bars. Plus after "agreeing to disagree" on our current favourite music last week, can we find common ground over two 20 Buck Spin releases? And Joe's kitten makes a (probably not) one-off special guest appearance.
Little Rock, Arkansas based death metal / hardcore band Terminal Nation released their killer debut LP “Holocene Extinction” via 20 Buck Spin this year. I spoke with vocalist Stan Liszewski via Zoom about the album, growing up booking DIY hardcore shows, working out at home and much more. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
At last, your daylong wait is rewarded with this sprawling and eclectic episode of Terminus. Today, we review not four, but *5* goddamn records back to back. We warm up with a special "Terminus reacts" segment on the new compilation of noise, industrial, and minimalist black metal by K.V.N.T. Kolektiv, longtime supporters of the show. Then, in a rare change of the marching order, The Death Metal Guy takes the helm for the leadoff band, Boston's Goratory. You'll hear TDMG introduce TBMG to the finer points of dizzying technical brutal death -- with some wild melodic riffs thrown in -- and explain what "New England death metal" even is. We roll on to the debut LP of Yersin, newcomers from England's savage North whose sound is difficult to pin down: Is it polished, catchy blackgrind? Is it the infamous "arena crust?" Is it beatdown with Immortal riffs? And where should they go from here? In the second half, we return to the "post-Slav" territory we started mapping out in Episode 23, with a rather disputatious review of Toadeater. The Death Metal Guy once more begins with They Came From Visions, an interesting Ukrainian outfit that folds the post-black tendency back into the darker, storming side of their native sound. We talk over the skillful, forward-thinking songwriting, which allows this band to evoke some unexpected moods. Finally, The Black Metal Guy introduces a project that many of our fans will really dig, but may have passed over for subcultural reasons -- Dressed In Streams, an American tribute to Indian revolutionaries that blends wild Indo-Slavic melody with rhythmic modern hardcore bite. Whatever our gripes about the presentation, the songwriting speaks for itself. 00:00 - Introductory bullshitting 05:00 - Terminus reacts to K.V.N.T. Kolektiv - Kovid 666 - K.V.N.T. We'll discuss what is in our personal rotation at the moment. We'll talk to guests who have to do with all of the above. And we'll talk about specific dealings with the store. Pallbearer, Corliss "Big Nasty" Williamson, Bill Clinton... not a lot has come out of Arkansas worth paying attention to TERMINAL NATION is here to change that. Stan Liszewski (vocals) joins this episode of the podcast to get everyone up to speed on Arkansas' best hardcore band and their new album, Holocene Extinction, out now on 20 BUCK SPIN!Music by:Hot ZoneTerminal NationVenomous ConceptEmail: dan@gettingitout.netWebsite: http://gettingitout.net/Instagram: @getting_it_out_podcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/gettingitoutpodcastTwitter: @GettingItOutPodVoicemail: 1-717-473-9517 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Sept 5thWe start today's show with the rip-roaring title track off of Skeleton's self-titled debut record, out now on 20 Buck Spin. It's a raging blend of feral blackened thrash, riffy Conan-sludge, and classic lighter-raising bombast, sure to get the headbangers' attention. We follow that up with vicious and brutal new tracks from the likes of progressive tech-death units Pyrrhon and Odius Mortem, righteous jammers from local favourites Vth Circle and Temple Of Abandonment, and rampaging new music from Wake, Lares and Cirkeln. We'll satisfy your power metal itch with triumphant new tunes from Judicator and Unleash the Archers, and throw in a classic party anthem from the legendary Vancouver band 3 Inches Of Blood. The second half of the show will feature more flesh-ripping death metal with Bolt Thrower, Genocide Pact and Tomb Mold, and we'll throw in some hard-partying, hellbent for leather hard rock with Hitter, The Donnas and Sheer Mag! We'll also play killer new tracks from thrash legends Testament and Annihilator, and lots more! Of course, we'll also pay tribute to a fallen brother with an ode to the dearly departed Riley Gale of Power Trip, and play a track off that band's untouchable final album Nightmare Logic. Plus, we'll close out the show by digging a classic CELTIC FROST track out of The Graveyard! Time to crank it!
Early August is supposed to be slow for new releases, but Terminus never slows. Instead, we hunted over rock and under root for new records that are slow -- not just in tempo, but in pacing and more abstract, "naturey" senses of time. Moulderyawn's entish black metal plows ahead at speeds once thought impossible for trees, but syncs with the seasonal rhythms of growth and death, the millenial life of the Everwood. Crushing The Sceptre tests the limits of patience and pain, rewarding it with a feeling The Death Metal Guy likens to "being stuck at the bottom of the grand canyon." Terminal Nation prepares for the next mass exinction, reworking powerviolence as a downtempo deathmarch. Verhängnis crawls up from the caverns and the soil itself, filling the Teutoburg Forest with echoes of wardrum-grooving, Gothic death. And last, but not least, our first-ever fan submission from the UK's Oppress. -- psychopathic decadent BM that is the opposite of slow. 00:00 - Introductory bullshitting / thanking fans and podcast plans / rundown of bands and labels 17:23 - Moulderyawn - And What Lie 'Neath Its Shade (IV) (Independent - Old-Mill-associated) 01:01:22 - Crushing the Scepter - Echoing Screams of Madness and Delusion (Transylvanian Tapes) 01:31:31 - Terminal Nation - Holocene Extinction (20 Buck Spin) 02:02:21 - Verhängnis - Verhängnis (Indp, tape by Fucking Kill! / Kellerassel) 02:25:23 - Oppress. - No. Pity. (K.V.N.T Kolektiv) 02:58:26 - Prophecy of Doom - "Insanity Reigns Supreme," fr. Acknowledge The Confusion Master. Pretty sure it's way out of print, so to support the band, consider the Total Mind War comp on the quality Polish grind label, Selfmadegod. Cover is pretty dank, too.

Nytt år. Nytt årtionde. Samma skit. Vi skippar traditionen att varje år peppa kommande musik utan går direkt på våra patreon-ämnen. Först ut 2020 blir vår konkurrent och ärkefiende Magnus Tannergren från Into The Void Podcast. No death as known...only doorways! Spellista: Kreator - Death To The World (Phantom Antichrist / Nuclear Blast) Black Breath - Home Of The Grave (Sentenced To Life / Southern Lord) Solace - Crushing Black (The Brink / Blues Funeral) The Hypnagogics - Eyes Without A Face (Endless Nights / Majestic Mountain) Lowrider - Red River (Refractions / Blues Funeral) Elizabeth Colour Wheel - Hide Behind (Emmett’s Song) (Nocebo / The Flenser) Vhöl - The Wall (S/t / Profound Lore) Helms Alee - Pleasure Center (Sleepwalking Sailors / Sargent House) Druid Lord - Chamber Of Ghastly Horror (Hymns For The Wicked / Doomentia) Haken - Puzzle Box (S/t / Inside Out Music) Vastum - Abscess Inside Us (Orificial Purge / 20 Buck Spin)
We talk new music from Nile, Hideous Divinity, Skelethal, Nightfell, and Litter, along with getting black metal a new mascot, threatening whales to extort Gojira, embarrassing metal ringtones, and ask the important questions—why are The Melvins? Is Karl Sanders #cancelled? And what in the everloving fuck is going on with turtle dicks? Last week we continued on our DIY Brain Damage project involving Meshuggah scoring The Matrix and other nonsense, this episode is much more focused. Kinda. New Music Featured This Episode: Litter - 'The Bastard' from Litter [EP] (out now) Hideous Divinity - 'The Enbalmer' from Simulacrum (out 8/11 @ Century Media) Skelethal - 'Antropomorphia' (out now) Nile - 'Long Shadows Of Dread' from Vile Nilotic Rites (out 1/11 @ Nuclear Blast) Nightfell - 'No Life Leaves Here' from A Sanity Deranged (out 13/9 @ @20 Buck Spin)
Coleman hits the studio with a scathing batch of harsh tunes that will raze the skin from your collective faces. New CanCon from Monarque and Panzerfaust; a slice of the 2019 roster from 20 Buck Spin and Gilead Media; and a reminiscence of the Ruins of Beverast shows in Portland and Seattle.
The guest for this episode is Derrick Vella, guitarist of the Toronto death metal band Tomb Mold, who have a new album Planetary Clairvoyance out now via 20 Buck Spin. This interview was recorded when Tomb Mold stopped at The Sanctuary in Detroit during their recent tour with Superstition. During our chat, we talked about the origins of the band, their new album, how they gained their fan base, and the Toronto music scene, among much more. Each episode, the guest is asked to suggest someone from their life/career that should be on Fresh is the Word that would have good stories to tell. Canadian death metallers Tomb Mold were the Cinderella story of the extreme metal underground in 2018. Seemingly out of nowhere (emphasis on "seemingly"), TM captured the hearts and minds of fans and critics alike with the brilliant 20 Buck Spin debut "Manor of Infinite Forms". The band recently crossed their native land giving us an opportunity to speak with axeman Derrick Vella. We discuss said record and the overwhelming attention the band received. As well we chat some Canadian metal legends and, of course, some hockey talk. Musically, we crank some TM, Rotting Christ, Noisem, Torture Rack, Abhorrent, Cannabis Corpse, and we introduce Montreal metallers Blackguard in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!!
