Cherry, baby! We are here with two-time Tony-winner and three-time Emmy-winner Cherry Jones. You Might Know Her From The Handmaid's Tale, 24, Transparent, Succession, The West Wing, The Village, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and her numerous theatre credits including The Heiress, Doubt, Mrs. Warren's Profession, and The Glass Menagerie. Cherry talked to us about playing the real life Eileen Myles on Transparent, grounding the violence on 24, whether or not she'll appear in the final season of The Handmaid's Tale, and she shares with us an actor's secret: her “moment before” from the Broadway production of Doubt. Plus, we got the scoop on going toe to toe with Brian Cox on Succession, whether or not she'd ever play Madame/Mama Rose in Gypsy, and trailblazing as a queer person in entertainment when she won her Tonys. It's a flashback episode this week, and truly the pilot episode of this podcast. In April of 2019, Nick joined Colin on “In the Details” to celebrate Amy Adams in her first Oscar nominated role (for a Best Supporting Actress, of course), 2005's “Junebug”! Along the way we have our first discussion of co-star and queen Celia Weston, we trade movie recommendations that later turned into episodes of this podcast, and we break down that hospital room breakdown beat by beat. We are in the presence of greatness this week with Celia Weston, an incredible actor who joined us remotely despite not even having the internet. Can you believe? You Might Know Her From Dead Man Walking, In the Bedroom, Junebug, Alice, The Talented Mr. Ripley, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Igby Goes Down, Far From Heaven, and The Village. Celia, one of the truest embodiments of the premise of this show, talked to us about bringing improv to Jody Hill’s set but not being encouraged to do so on Nancy’s Meyer’s The Intern, working with auteurs like Todd Haynes and M. Night Shyamalan, sinking her teeth into accents whether Staten Island or Bavarian, and the complexities of joining the sitcom Alice in its fifth season. There was just so so much. Follow us on social media: @damianbellino || @rodemanne Celia Weston IMDB Charlotte Raines (daughter of Ron Raines and Dona Vaughn, Celia’s goddaughter) facilitated our interview, shout out to her. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress Indie Spirit Award for Dead Man Walking Susan Sarandon as Sister Helen Prejean was very generous during their filming Had extremely emotional scene opposite Sissy Spacek in In the Bedroom (2001, Todd Field) Directed actors turned directors: Jodie Foster (Little Man Tate), Diane Keaton (Hanging Up), Todd Field (In the Bedroom), Tim Robbins (Dead Man Walking). Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven) was a tribute to Douglas Sirk (All That Heaven Allows, Imitation of Life) Female directors: Poms (Zara Hayes), The Intern (Nancy Meyers), Jodie, Diane Improvised with Anne Hathaway in The Intern (Meyers not into it) Loved working with director, Jody Hill (Observe and Report). He also directed her in an excellent episode of Vice Principals with Danny McBride where she gets fired and destroys the office. Joined the sitcom Alice in season 5 as Jolene Honeycutt. Was almost in the Private Benjamin tv series but ultimately landed on Alice. Sitcom money paid for her UES apartment. Nancy Walker directed many episodes of Alice, and once came over and told her she was “a real lady.” Matthew McCounaghey’s character in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was originally supposed to be from Staten Island. Has performed Bavarian (Snow Falling on Cedars) and Czech (The Invasion) accents M Night Shyamalan put the cast of The Village through a 19th century bootcamp so they could get that authenticity right Cast as Tom Cruise’s mom in Knight and Day (she’s 10 years older than him) Plays Lady Ambrosia on a crazy episode of The Blacklist. If she fell down a well in real life and could only call one person from the cast of Poms, she’d call Diane Keaton. Did not read The Secret but co-starred in the film. Plays Cate Blanchett’s aunt in The Talented Mr. Ripley and was in the opera scene when Matt Damon had to produce a single tear. While on Alice, she competed on Battle of the Network Stars (1984) and her CBS team beat ABC and NBC

Melissa Leo wields a cigarette and a wicked Boston accent as boxing momager Alice Ward in 2010's "The Fighter," but her performance is more than just props and working class drag. This week, we queen out on her best moments, from that thing she does with her chin to the way she says the word "sweetheart." We discuss co-star Amy Adams nearly as much, as well as some tangents on Hocus Pocus, Legally Blonde, Ina Garten, our Barefoot Contessa podcasting fantasies, the magic of Amy Ryan in "The Office," our struggles with straight men, code switching, and how The Fighter isn't The Wrestler--to say nothing of our shared love for Celia Weston and the awards show we'd like to see created in her name and honor. Squirrel Friend of the podcast Nick Kochanov (Very Bad Gay Podcast, Squirrel Friends Cocktail Hour) joins me this week to celebrate this generation's quintessential Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams! And specifically, in what we both agree is her best performance (and her first nomination!), 2005's Junebug. We queen out on co-star Celia Weston, break down the hospital room breakdown, check the receipts on the Oscar nominations that year, and give a moment of appreciation for each of Amy Adams' other Oscar nominations. (On a vaguely related note: Ellen Burstyn was robbed for "Requiem for a Dream." Oh, and there are lots of Junebug spoilers in this episode.) The experienced cast of ‘In the Radiant City’ joins No Film School’s Liz Nord to dish on how (and how not) to direct actors. 'In the Radiant City’ is directed by Jeff Nichols protégé Rachel Lambert and co-written by Lambert and Nathan Gregorski. The film is a quiet but very tense family drama about a man who testified against his brother in a murder trial when they were kids, and his return to their rural Kentucky hometown twenty years later to face the family that was left behind. Its talented ensemble cast includes Marin Ireland ('Hell or High Water’), Michael Abbott Jr. (‘Loving'), Madisen Beaty ('The Master'), and Celia Weston, who has over 60 credits to her name but may be best recognized as Barb Tucker from 'Modern Family.’ On this lively episode, that entire group, plus Lambert and Gregorski, discuss what you should *not* do on set as much as they give constructive tips for directing actors. Lambert also shares the details of how she got her debut feature off the ground, including great advice like "Get to know every goddam bartender in the area,” as well as the most important things she learned from mentor Jeff Nichols, who produced the film.
