Today on the Soul of Life I speak to Dr. Lesley Tate-Gould, a psychotherapist that uses Somatic Experiencing to help people overcome trauma.   Lesley runs the Lido Wellness Center, an outpatient trauma and counseling practice in Newport Beach, California.   We talk about her specialization in a form of body-focused trauma treatment called Somatic Experiencing, or SE, and her experience of benefitting from SE herself. SE was developed by Peter Levine, and like IFS therapy, deviates from the norms of traditional talk therapy and its typical cognitive and rational focus.   "Sometimes emotions are like people would rather stay away from them." Instead, SE focuses on so-called “bottom-up” neurological processing. At the Bone Cave we get a lot of questions about BDC turrets. BDC stands for Bullet Drop Compensation, and BDC turrets offer the easiest way to dial number of clicks to compensate for bullet drop when shooting at longer distances. These turrets are usually found on hunting scopes for long-range hunting. We call RBO's system a range, dial-and-dump system (shout out to Jeff Sipe). You range your animal (say 600 yards) and use your dope card (RBO has done the homework for you on knowing your bullet, and it's velocity) and then you apply the number of clicks needed to compensate for the bullet's drop over that distance. If you're hunting out west, long range shots are the norm and having a good BDC turret will add greatly to your hunting success. Rolling Bones does have a package where we take your favorite rifle and turn it into a precision, long-range firearm with a scope and BDC turret (26:12). At 28:55 Brian and Brad give the top three things they like about a BDC turret.

This also comes with the added responsibility of gearing up your ship with the right components and crew for your specific path. That being said, depending on the path you take, your ships will all look different. So speaking of combat, As a fighter, you may want to build your ship in a way that amplifies its destructive power and strikes fear in your enemies. Adding turrets and missile bays is a way to increase its firepower. Turrets can be energy, ballistic or disruption type to target different components of enemy ships and installations. Turrets are powered by a power supply and protected by shields and a hull. When encountering another enemy ship, if scanned properly, the player can target subsystems to get an advantage in a fight. For instance, It may be good to target the ships power supply to lower their shields before your close-range fighters move in to make the kill. Ships can also target land and space based installations to free up competitor's claims. However, those installations can also have their own weaponry installed ready for attacks. All players can mark their stance as aggressive or passive to signal their desired combat engagements and Passive stance affords a shield and maneuverability buff to allow for escape if attacked without formal declarations. Another really cool aspect of the game is that your ship is not the only factor in your success. You also have to outfit your ship with crew members, AND, you can train them up. You can train them and prepare them for battle in what's called the University Decks. Crew members that trained together in University or previously on ships will actually improve the stats of each other when placed on the same ship's crew. If they work together frequently, they can receive buffs or upgrades over time. However, Matching crew incorrectly can cause debuffs to a ship's performance Okay okay, but let's get to the good part. Victory. What do you take home if you win? Victory comes with rewards — you are free to take some spoils from the enemy ships you shoot down. The salvaged components and crew members you find are in the form of NFTs, which are freely tradeable and monetizable in the Star Atlas metaverse, which means both in and outside the game. This also means, if you spend $25,000 USDC on a capital ship and lose in the outer rim of the map, it will be picked for parts and sold on the marketplace by the winner. Even though we brought it up in the last episode though, I want to bring it up again here. When you start, you begin the game in your faction's safe zone. You cannot be harmed until you leave that safezone. We talk frankly about recovery from addictions such as Alcoholism & drug abuse, because that is what we did. "OUR BEST THINKING - GOT US DRINKING" a saying often credited to why we drank. We had such wild thoughts - that we self-medicated to try & control the craziness going on in our heads...It worked only for awhile & then it grew bigger than we ever could imagine! About Lisa LaFontaine Lisa LaFontaine is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA), this area’s premier animal welfare organization. HRA was created when two iconic predecessors—the Washington Humane Society (WHS) and the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL)—came together to form a single more powerful voice for animals. With this historic union, Washington, DC, becomes the only major urban area in the country that has all of its animal protection programs and services—from medical services and adoptions to animal control and humane law enforcement—unified in one organization. Lisa’s experience and accomplishments in the animal welfare field are a testament to her compassion and commitment and have prepared her well for the challenge of heading up such a unique organization. She left a successful career in publishing after having what she describes as a personal epiphany. Her young daughter, who was diagnosed with Turrets syndrome, had trouble sleeping at night. A counselor advised having one of the family cats, to whom Lisa’s daughter was very attached, sleep with her. This cat, who had never been interested in sleeping on anyone’s bed, willingly curled up with her, helping bring her the sense of calm she needed to sleep. Lisa recalls thinking first that there had never been an animal like this cat and then that perhaps other people felt the same sense of connection with their companion animals. Her commitment to animals and their well-being was born. As CEO of New Hampshire’s Monadnock Humane Society, Lisa spearheaded a successful capital campaign that resulted in construction of a new, state-of-the-art animal welfare facility and an expanded endowment fund for the organization. In 2007 she was hired as President and CEO by the Washington Humane Society, where she significantly increased the live release rate for animals from one of the lowest to one of the highest in the country. She also advocated for greater animal protection through innovative programs and changes in law and built critical relationships with DC’s diverse interests and communities on behalf of animals in need. Lisa worked closely with the senior staff and Boards of Directors of both WHS and WARL to lay the groundwork for a new, combined organization that would not just be larger but would also be more powerful, one that could accomplish more for both animals and people. The Humane Rescue Alliance is the result of that collaboration.     Given her personal and professional devotion to animals, Lisa is dedicated to the vision of a community where there is a loving home for every unwanted animal, affordable medical care for every sick and injured animal, an end to animal abuse and cruelty, and stronger bonds between animals and people through education and training. She believes that the Humane Rescue Alliance can bring that vision to fruition. When not advocating for the animal community at large, Lisa shares her life and home with her husband, Matt Kayhoe; Sazzy, their pit bull; cats Crystal, Gregory Xavier Pibb, and Harold; and an ever-rotating and always welcomed family of foster animals. She serves as Vice Chairman of the DC Board of Veterinary Examiners and is a proud member of SAWA (the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators).
