American singer
POPULARITY
Legendary singer-songwriter Luther Vandross pioneered a golden age of silky-smooth R&B and passionate slow jams. In addition to countless hits and platinum albums, he earned eight Grammy Awards, including ‘Song of the Year' in 2004 for “Dance With My Father” – a track that was released while he was hospitalized after suffering from a stroke. He studied from the best at a young age, spending hours watching and recreating the routines of Diana Ross and Dionne Warwick that he saw on television. He wrote, arranged and sang back up for David Bowie, Chaka Khan, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand and Roberta Flack, before finally deciding to step into the spotlight as a solo artist.Despite his success, the powerhouse balladeer had a very public struggle with weight, especially with an unforgiving media fixated on image. He was also dogged by constant questions over his sexuality, despite pleas to respect his privacy. It's hard to believe that a man responsible for some of the most beautiful ballads ever recorded had a difficult time finding true love in his own life. Nonetheless, Vandross persevered with an unprecedented work ethic and an unrelenting spirit to succeed.Join I SEE U as host Eddie Robinson chats unguarded with award-winning filmmaker, Dawn Porter. Her latest documentary, Luther: Never Too Much, has received critical acclaim for uncovering details of Luther Vandross' life previously unknown to even the most die-hard fan. Utilizing a hefty trove of archival footage and rare rehearsal recordings, Porter allows Vandross to tell his own story with assistance from his closet friends and collaborators, including Warwick, Mariah Carey, Marcus Miller, Richard Marx and Nile Rodgers. With the recent news of CNN Films and OWN acquiring the film, the director chronicles for I SEE U the triumphs and tribulations of an extraordinary vocalist who grew up admiring the heroines of ‘60s music royalty to become one of the most influential and decorated artists of the last few decades.
Ever wondered why certain societies are outliving the rest of us? Today's episode with the multi-talented James Connolly is a deep dive into the secrets of Blue Zones, heavily promoted in a recent Netflix documentary, which are considered to be the regions of the world where people live the longest. We take you on an intriguing journey, challenging popular perceptions around the misconceptions of a whole-food, plant-based diets in these societies. From the history of Japanese food rationing during WWII to an engaging discourse on the cultural norms shaping Blue Zone diets, which are dubiously said to be 90-98% plant-based, this episode is an enlightening exploration of longevity and health. We also touch on the influence of the Seven-Day Adventist Church's massive impact on promoting plant-based diets.Venturing further, we delve into urban infrastructure, discussing projects such as the $2 billion project in East New York and the consultation fees paid to the Blue Zones Project, owned by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Throughout this conversation, we consistently circle back to the significance of real, whole food, and the false narratives around plant-based lifestyles, and the dangers of the ultra-processed food industry. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in understanding the complex dynamics of diet, culture, and longevity!Find James at-IG- @primatekitchenTW- @jamescphotoSpecial love to-Jake and Maren at Death In The GardenThe Sacred Cow by Dianna Ross and Robb Wolf @ www.sacredcow.infoDr. Gary and Belinda FettkeThe Great Plant Based Con by Jayne BuxtonAlso-The Climate One Debate Featuring Nicolette Hahn Niman and Jonathan KaplanThe Global Influence of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on DietFind Boundless Body at- myboundlessbody.com Book a session with us here!

Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world…These aren't the droids you're looking for…Houston, we have a problem – we all know that one line from a classic film that brings the whole experience to mind. The story, the actors' faces, the tension or humor in the moment, these all come back in a few words. Jesus was doing the same with his famous quote from Psalm 22 as we died – He drew us into the entire story of that Psalm that ends not in loss, but resurrection. Also, Rick and Josh reminisce briefly on shag carpeting and Dianna Ross's career. Don't touch that dial.

We listen to Dianna Ross, Public Enemy, Tracy Chapman, Stevie Wonder and more as Touré explains the Black culture history that led to the iconic songs, not just how they reflect the stories of the time, but how they ushered, or forced, in a new era of revolution. Touré, who was a cohost of MSNBC's The Cycle and a writer for Rolling Stone, the New York Times, and The New Yorker, deep dives into the rich political and cultural history of Black life and music, including the influences of gay liberation, the power of MLK, mass incarceration, and the crack epidemic. It's a fascinating musical episode of Useful Idiots that you won't want to miss. And watch the full version where things get political: Touré, whose past as an MSNBC host can't be hidden forever, debates Katie and Aaron on Cornel West, Bernie Sanders, and Obama. SAGE STEVENS interviews the man helping musicians regain their hearing, the inventor of the wireless IEM ear monitor, STEPHEN AMBROSE, on SHOUT OUT WITH SAGE. As confirmed by the WSJ, Rolling Stone and hundreds of other publications, Stephen Ambrose is a musician and heuristic scientist who is the original inventor and pioneer of the wireless IEM (in ear monitor) systems which are now commonly seen in the ears of performing artists all over the world. He was the first to provide & engineer IEMs for the Super Bowl, Oscar's, Grammy Awards, and all other major award/talk shows and films (E.T., Star Trek, etc.). After decades of touring with Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkel, Dianna Ross, as well as providing them for or engineering them for hundreds of live stage, radio and television shows, Ambrose began losing his own hearing through the use of these devices and vowed not to continue manufacturing or providing them until he could discover the source of and remedy their dangers. There is a documented 77% global increase in hearing loss due to the use of the personal audio devices which copied his original IEM invention without employing the early measures he included to avert hearing loss. Ambrose just finished providing this technology for the recent Paul McCartney tour in the US and UK and currently, the hugely popular EDM band Odesza is touring with sets of his latest ADEL (Ambrose Diaphonic Ear Lens) IEMs having just released a new single LIGHT OF DAY which features a vocal pull from a folk song Ambrose released in 1972 called ‘Mary', on their final 'theme cut' of the single on their new album THE LAST GOODBYE. Ambrose's original invention preceded and formed the basis of the Sony Walkman, Apple iPod and all high fidelity portable personal audio devices (ear bud, etc.,) in use today. The story behind this and its present day ramifications is most easily conveyed by viewing the first few minutes of the his keynote presentation sponsored by Autodesk (after Ambrose won their 2013 Inventor of the Year Award) and delivered at the World Trade Center in Boston in 2016: --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/streaminnhubradio/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/streaminnhubradio/support

“Karen... our lifelong friend!”Karen, our lifelong friend of thirty years, was called to her Eternal Home to be with the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ and our Almighty Father God! She is in front of God, a soldier of the Light and covered in Glory! She was a skilled Registered Nurse, and lived her life celebrating others! Karen made you feel like you were the most important person in the world every time you saw her!Over the years, Karen and my daughter, Billie, helped each other through the best and hardest times of their ives. She was a rare and unique friend because she truly Loved Billie unconditionally, very similar to the way my husband and I do. Their friendship was timeless, and had the mutual element of an epic Love! Our families even Loved each other! Ann (Karen's Mother), Loved Billie as if she were her own child. The feeling was mutual! I Loved both Karen and Ann, very deeply too! Ann passed away a few months prior to Karen's passing. Karen's family, and our family, were all in a season of grief. Many years ago, Karen dedicated the song entitled, “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” by Dianna Ross to her friendship with my daughter, Billie. This was the final song that was played at her funeral service. It was beautiful because everyone was standing with their arms in the air celebrating her life as the song was being played. Karen lived her life Loving and serving the Lord! Billie preached both Ann and Karen's funerals per Karen's sister (Donna's) request. Ann and Karen both would have been filled with contentment knowing that Billie officiated their services. That's no exception when it comes to Eileen Shapiro, except for the fact, that when the majority of those who are the readers and fans of the likes of Dianna Ross, Whoopi Goldberg, Cyndi Lauper and so many other big name singers and actors, may not realize that the articles and interviews they are reading, are written by the very well respected journalist and celebrity herself, Eileen Shapiro. Eileen writes for over 40 international magazines and online blog sites reviewing albums, live shows, and interviewing major celebrities such as Emma Stone, Kesha, Dianne Warwick, Boy George, Toni Braxton, Adam Ant, Brooke Shields, Rick Springfield, Jennifer Hudson and hundreds more. In this Bonus Tom, Mark, and Molly talk about a woman in New Jersey that was attacked by a bull, Mitt Romney blowing out his birthday candles, a man caught by a whale, Conor Mcgregor in hot water again, China's "breed ready" women, James Gunn back to direct Guardians 3, and Dianna Ross got inappropriately poked on stage.
This week we celebrate Dianna Ross and we talk about not rehurting ourselves after a breakup. Hello Theater People! So, the plan was for us to take two weeks off and have a little bit of a summer break. But then we did this great interview with this young actress named Allison Semmes. She was playing Dianna Ross in "Motown The Musical" on Broadway. The day before out interview, the show got it’s closing notice. It was limited engagement on Broadway anyway, but now the show was closing way earlier than expected. Mike and I had LOVED Allison in the show and we loved her even more in person, so we wanted to get this episode out while the show was still fresh on people’s minds. It’s a really short interview, which made for a really short episode, but I urge you to keep your eye on her, she clearly has a really bright future on Broadway. Just, to let you know why I sound a little insane in this episode--it was our first time recording in an actual recording studio. I am veeeeeeery particular about the sound of this podcast and I was just loving every second of being in that padded room. So just, you know, bear with me. Ok, ENJOY!

It's a heated back and forth that seems to only prove the power of music, because no matter the disagreements on political issues, the tunes we listen to bring everyone back together.
