How long have you been a Eurogamer reader for? Let me put that another way: how many different Eurogamer editors do you remember? The site has been around for a long time now - 25 years this week - so there have been a few different sets of hands at the tiller. I ask because, well, I've gathered those editors together again for a very special anniversary podcast, which you can listen to right now. With me on the podcast are Eurogamer's originating editor John Bye, better known to some as Gestalt, who edited the site from its foundation in 1999 through to 2002. Then we have Kristan Reed, who took over in 2002 and ran the site through to 2008, before passing the baton to Tom Bramwell who led through to 2014. Then Oli Welsh steered Eurogamer from 2014 to 2021, before Wesley Yin-Poole took over from 2021-2023. Unfortunately Martin Robinson and Tom Phillips - our more recent editors - were unable to join because they were at Gamescom when we recorded. We also have Ellie Gibson on the podcast, who was a hugely influential voice and personality on the site, and also briefly editor of it, in 2011.  It's been years since I've seen and talked to some of these people - I worked alongside almost all of them - and in most cases, it's been years since they've talked to each other, too. Despite that, it isn't long before we all settle into a familiar rhythm as stories are told and memories shared, and many laughs are had. I've missed these people. If ever you've been curious about the roots of Eurogamer and how the site became what it did, or if you just wondered what the former editors are up to now - or maybe you just want to reminisce - then I've got the conversation for you. A huge thank you to all of my guests both for joining the podcast and for helping make Eurogamer what it is today. Many happy returns! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

An Ofsted inspection "contributed" to the death of head teacher Ruth Perry. That's the conclusion of senior coroner Heidi Connor. This is the first time Ofsted has been listed as a contributing factor in the death of a head teacher. Ruth Perry had been head of Caversham Primary School in Berkshire for 13 years when she took her own life in January, ahead of an inspection report being made public which had downgraded the school from Outstanding to Inadequate, based on safeguarding concerns. Her death ignited a national debate about the mental health of school leaders and the pressure they are under in terms of inspections. Anita Rani speaks to Ruth Perry's sister, Professor Julia Waters.   Born and raised in Deptford, south east London, Kwesia didn't grow up with a lot of nature around her. That's until she went on a life-changing trip to the Amazon. She's since created her YouTube channel, City Girl in Nature, to guide other city dwellers into the great outdoors. She speaks to Krupa Padhy about her platform, nature activism work, and winning Best New Voice at the Audio Production Awards for her podcast Get Birding.   Lina Mookerjee had been married to her husband Richard for more than 15 years when he lost both his sight and hearing. Lina is now as much a carer to Richard as she is a wife. Lina and Richard share their story and discuss what they describe as the ‘invisible' work of carers.   Research suggests that the average Briton spends £300 on Christmas gifts. One woman who is bucking this trend is the writer and journalist Nell Frizzell, who says that her family Christmases have improved since they stopped buying one another gifts. There are big changes afoot for women's football. Former England Lioness Karen Carney published a review into the women's domestic game over the summer and the Government has just announced that it will back all the findings from her report. That includes making the top two tiers professional and giving the sport a dedicated broadcast slot. Baroness Sue Campbell, director of women's football at the Football Association, discusses their decision. The head of Ofcom, Dame Melanie Dawes, talks about her plans to make tech companies stop children accessing online pornography in her first broadcast interview on the subject. Under the new Online Safety Act, which came into effect last month, the regulator has been tasked with coming up with age verification measures. Latest research shows that the average age at which children first see online pornography is 13 - although nearly a quarter come across it by age 11 and one in 10 as young as nine. By 18, 79% have encountered violent pornography depicting coercive, degrading or pain-inducing sex acts.A report out today details for the first time the views of the bereaved families of women killed by men. A woman is killed by a man on average every three days in the UK and the charity Killed Women is campaigning to end this and improve the experiences for families forced to deal with it. The director of Killed Women, Anna Ryder, joins Krupa Padhy to discuss the report's findings ahead of a planned protest outside Parliament. Now it's only 20 sleeps until Christmas, and for many of you that might mean running around the shops buying all your Christmas presents. But one woman who is bucking this trend is the writer and journalist Nell Frizzell, who says that her family Christmases have improved since they stopped buying one another gifts. Comedian Ellie Gibson says she was a Tony Benn groupie and saw him speak many times. A brilliant orator and prolific diarist, he was by the 1980s distrusted by many in his own party, and a bogey figure in the right wing press. Ellie Gibson has spent her life playing and writing about video games. It is a passion that she enjoys sharing with her son but as a parent she's become interested in the impact games play on the mind and behaviour. It's an emerging area of science and one that's frequently skewed by fevered debates about whether games are "good" or "bad". Ellie's theory is that exploring online worlds and connecting with one another through games is far more constructive than endlessly scrolling through social media, and it's a theory she explores with Professor Andrew Przybylski at the Oxford Internet Institute in the hope that he'll agree. The first series of Sort Your Shit Out is all about balancing the booze. In this episode, comedian Ellie Gibson gets real about her own drinking habits, and has questions. How do you know if you've got a serious problem? If you want to moderate your intake, where do you start? And how do you break patterns like being sober all week then battered at the weekend?  Answering all these is coach and co-host Stephanie Chivers, who specialises in helping people change their relationship with alcohol. We discuss Stephanie's rock bottom, and Ellie's squidgy one, and why rules can help when you're trying to reduce. Stephanie gives us some practical tips for cutting down, and Ellie reveals the rules that work for her.  Many thanks to Remedy Kombucha for supporting this podcast. In this episode, Kate was joined by journalist and comedian, Ellie Gibson to discuss relationship struggles and how to make a marriage work in the wake of a separation. Ellie is the co-host of the number one parenting podcast The Scummy Mummies.  She joined forces with Helen Thorn to become The Scummy Mummies in 2013 and they have gone on to produce an award-winning podcast, a sell-out touring comedy show, and a popular book. The episode begins with Kate and Ellie exploring her relationship and how separation and space ended up making her marriage stronger, resulting in two beautiful children with her husband Pete. She describes the lead-up to her split from her now husband, Pete, which many will find relatable. A sequence of arguments about ‘small' yet fundamental issues led to the couple deciding to take a series of breaks. Ellie found individual therapy useful in getting to a place where she could reconcile with her husband. She described the impact her best friend's divorce had on her and her husband, and she talked about the importance of trying to navigate tough patches, rather than giving up or cheating. This episode is a homage to marriage and the work required to keep a relationship strong.

Our Christmas interview special has light, shade, laughs and a slice of Hope. Ellie Gibson – games journalist, co-host of the Extra Life podcast, and "the common one " (her words) from the Scummy Mummies – is here to tell you all about the joys of gaming. She chats to our Mick about navigating the uber-male world of gaming, letting your kids loose online, and the strangely therapeutic powers of virtual farming. Meanwhile, our Jen chats to Liz Scowcroft, head of research and evaluation at Samaritans, about loneliness at Christmas and what can be done to keep an eye on those that might be struggling, and she also catches up with mental health campaigner and writer Hope Virgo, about something to look forward to in January – finally! – with the charity's Brew Monday, and new book How To Listen. You'll also hear our Hannah with a reminder that anyone feeling lonely on Christmas Day should definitely check out the boss's excellent Twitter love-in #JoinIn, which will be bringing people together online for the tenth year running. This week it’s the superb Scummy Mummies - and it's chaos! We had them round Annabel’s kitchen table one evening - back when such things were allowed - to talk terrible sex injuries and why we’re all feeling so insane. They are properly funny stand-ups, properly famous podcasters and properly brilliant human beings: we love Helen Thorn and Ellie Gibson so excuse the swearing, the snorting and the general mayhem of this recording. It was just bliss to do.

Mark Carney will step down as Governor of the Bank of England on January 31st 2020. The search is on for a successor and the Chancellor hopes to make an appointment in October. An executive search agency has been tasked with widening the diversity of candidates and a number of high-profile women have been tipped for the role – who are they?Classically trained cellist, songwriter and jazz singer Ayanna Witter-Johnson has just released her debut album Road Runner. She performs live and talks about being inspired by her mum, how Reuben her cello is her dancing partner and being an advocate for the women's movement. An estimated 5000 women a year around the world are killed through so-called honor killings, often by a member of their own family. What drives a person to murder their sister, mother or daughter? What is life like in a society in which women are imprisoned for their own "protection," while their potential killers walk free? Jenni speaks to Lene Wold, an investigative journalist, author of Inside an Honor Killing: A Father and A Daughter Tell Their Story. With the arrival of the Meghan and Harry's new baby, we consider the best ways to help new parents as they celebrate a new arrival. In Berlin an ‘It's A Boy!' balloon was given to the Duchess of Cornwall, Niagara Falls has been lit in blue, and trees were planted in New Zealand. But as Prince William noted, the reality is what he called, “the sleep deprivation society that is parenting." So, are balloons and flowers in order, or would short visits, ready-made food, and practical help in the house be more welcome? To discuss, Jenni is joined by Ellie Gibson, one half of parenting comedy duo Scummy Mummies, and parenting blogger Clemmie Telford.Presenter: Jenni Murray Producer: Laura Northedge Interviewed Guest: Ayanna Witter-Johnson Interviewed Guest: Lene Wold Interviewed Guest: Ellie Gibson Interviewed Guest: Clemmie Telford

It's a very intimate show tonight, as Will and Nate venture deep into electronic music territory in two distinctly different approaches to the musical platformer. Electronic Super Joy is a pixel graphic-styled brutal platformer's chase (the difficulty of which has only Super Meat Boy to pay homage to) in order to take down Rogue Pope One as a silhouette of a boy to the incredibly loud thumping beats of Eurodance backed by mid-tier-quality German gonzo porn sound effects. Meanwhile, in a far more mature and artsy vein, PixelJunk Eden is Q-Games and Baiyon's collaboration to give you an idea of what his DJ residency nights at Tokyo's infamous and somewhat secret underground megaclub Womb might be like if you were the only one around and a weird drum track kept popping either into your head or off to stage right; you're not sure because you're on a couple too many tabs of acid, but everything is incredible neon vectors on sharp black backgrounds the color of the Arctic night sky before the Canadians set up that Santa shop and the Russians needed the oil money enough to explore the taiga.Relevant links!Ellie Gibson of Eurogamer gets incredibly frustrated and reviews EdenJohn Walker of RPS, someone who "gets it", reviews EdenMaybe relevant to your ESJ interests: some gameplay of Crypt of the NecroDancerMaybe relevant to your Eden interests: Hohokum, a Phil Kollar Polygon reviewRelevant music podcasts! The Anjunadeep Edition for good deep house, a bit more calm than Eden's soundtrack (a progressive house record label out of London)Resident Advisor (RA) podcast for getting into techno and more eclectic, less smooth, more worldly soundsThe Monstercat podcast for slightly more energetic, upbeat sounds midway between the energy of these two OSTs (an upbeat trancey-dance record label out of Vancouver)The theme this week is so incredible it couldn't be contained: "Voyage: Andromeda" by Jayster, from chipmusic.org. Also from chipmusic, the WILL'S GAMING MINUTE(tm) theme is, fittingly, "Wienerhype" by jaar. The song towards the end is from the ESJ official soundtrack, so go check that out!

‘We own our podcast and are very precious about it, even though there’s a sense of fun and silliness, we are serious about the quality of it and the jokes.’ Episode 13 of Podcast Divas puts, not one but, two ladies in the spotlight – Ellie Gibson and Helen Thorn of The Scummy Mummies Podcast – a popular fortnightly chat show for less-than-perfect parents, which regularly tops the kids and family category on iTunes in the UK. ‘We do like a cat suit – preferably gold lame.’ This was such a fun episode to record and I think you can tell that Helen and Ellie are both also stand-up comedians, in fact that’s how they met.  Listen to find out how they came to co-host the Scummy Mummies Podcast and much much more including:  Who’s tried a three way (we’re talking podcasting of course) Who wants to be scrummy, yummy or scummy The full story of how Helen and Ellie met The best way to cope with being a parent Why they started having guests on their show Finding a balance of silliness and seriousness How to deal with serious matters in an entertaining way The progression from trying to be a podcaster to being a natural The difference between podcasting and live shows How to feel like you’re just chatting to friends when recording your show The benefits of a multi platform approach How to get your posts on the Huffington Post The pros and cons of drinking on your show The need for discipline, self-honesty and ruthless editing Turning 2 hours of material into a 40 minute episode Why Ellie needs to keep editing the show The business side of podcasting Why do Ellie and Helen podcast What makes Helen cry at her laptop How using Acast for advertising works The advantage of a podcast subject with longevity  ‘Editing is like reading music.’ Microphones and editing Ellie uses Audacity to edit their show. Scummy Mummies started with a Blue Snowball microphone and recently upgraded to a Blue Yeti. ‘You feel like you’re chatting to friends and forget that the mic is on.’ Advice for Podcast Divas and potential Divas ‘Feel passionate about, and love what you’re doing.  Don’t just think oh there’s a niche or don’t try to predict what there’s a gap in the market for.  Just do what you really love and that will come across in what you say and who you interview.’ Helen ‘Edit it. It takes time and it’s a pain but as a listener, the podcasts I listen to are the ones that are nice and tight and edited. When it’s just people rambling on for two hours I can’t deal with it, I don’t have time for it – so edit. Be good’. Ellie Suggested episodes of Scummy Mummies to start with Episode 60 with Kathy Lette Episode 5 on pelvic floor exercises ‘Some of the best moments of my entire life have been on the podcast.’ Helen and Ellie’s recommended Podcast Divas Sarah Koenig – Serial https://serialpodcast.org Helen Zaltzman – The Allusionist http://www.theallusionist.org and Answer Me This http://answermethispodcast.com - ‘She’s a podspiration’ Where to find Ellie and Helen Scummymummies.com Thanks for listening If you enjoyed this episode please tweet @podcastdivas and @scummymummies and let us know.
