Recruiting Future with Matt Alder

Celebrating 10 years of Recruiting Future! Over the last 10 years, I've interviewed hundreds of TA Leaders as well as CEOs, thought leaders, and the people building the technology that drives the industry forward. Back in 2015, we thought the pace of change was super fast and that the level of disruption was off the scale with social and mobile technologies reshaping how we communicated. In some ways, we might think it was impossible back then to imagine the world we live in now, but many of the changes we see in TA today have been in the works for a long time. The speed of change in talent acquisition is governed by the tension between organizational inertia, which slows things down, and external events like the pandemic, which can cause things to move at lightning-fast speeds. The Generative AI revolution is most definitely in the latter category. We are on the cusp of the most significant changes to TA and recruiting we have ever seen. So, as a TA Leader, how do you manage that change and make sure you and your organization are fit for the future? Over the last few months, I've been using the power of AI to unlock the Recruiting Future archive and model the mindset and behaviours of the most successful TA leaders that I've interviewed. People who have changed how their organizations think about talent, who thrive on disruption as a catalyst for positive change, and who know how to use technology to enable their vision. These leaders all have four things in common. They use foresight to understand and shape the future, they build influence with the most senior stakeholders in their organisation, they think different to create innovative talent strategies and they use the impact of new technologies to accelerate change. Foresight, Influence, Talent and Technology = Fitt This episode features clips from interviews with two TA leaders, two CHROs, a Behavioural Scientist, and a Futurist talking about these four key areas and what you and your teams can do to be fit for the future. Featuring: Laszlo Bock, former CHRO at Google, on skills Lisa Montieth, Head of TA UK at HSBC on foresight Lyndsey Taylor, Global Head of HR Transformation at Brooks Automation, on influence Rory Sutherland, Vice Chair at Ogilivy UK, on talent Laura Coccaro, Chief People Officer at iCIMS on technology Kevin Wheeler, Future Of Talent Institute, on job displacement Follow this podcast on Apple Podcasts.

Hey humans, this is Stacie Baird and welcome to the HX Podcast! Yesterday was International HR Day, and to honor our amazing friends in HR, the next few episodes will be dedicated to you. As someone deeply entrenched in this space, alongside my team, I want to reflect on where we've been, what we've achieved, and offer you some valuable insights to help you carve out space for yourself in your demanding roles. In this episode, we'll explore the challenges of working in HR. Why does it sometimes feel so difficult? I explore the concept of paradox, where two opposing truths can coexist, such as being both pro-employer and pro-employee. After 20+ years in HR, I've realized that our role involves navigating these competing truths to find a balanced path that benefits both the organization and its people. We also touch on the negative perceptions of HR, especially on platforms like TikTok, where the sentiment often suggests that HR can't be trusted. I believe it's up to us to change this narrative by approaching our work with both organizational and human-centric perspectives. “Generative AI, it's going to change the world in an incredibly positive way”, says Alex.“In the long term, I truly believe that we will elevate the role of HR because we'll be able to not only remove a lot of the friction from finding complex answers around HR policies and programs, but we'll also be able to augment our services to be able to do more.”Alex charts her career journey to falling in to consulting. “15 years ago, I'm not even sure I really understood what human resources was. How I ended up in this was focussing on how organizations manage their people and how they build relationships with their workforce. I constantly asked myself, could we make work better?”“I understood that technology and data were huge drivers in how organizations think about their people, how they make decisions about their people.”Alex gives insight in to how technology and humans can combine to make HR better. How we can use technology to deliver a more personalized experience as employee expectations continue to shift. “It's incredibly difficult to make the argument for more human resources in human resources. There are times where humans should be the main point of contact, but we should be digital first where we can so that the limited human resources we have access to can be there for those human moments like a promotion or something unfortunate, like a death in the family or even just a difficult coaching conversation.”Alex emphasizes the biggest impact embedding AI will have on business functions and the steps we can take to deploy AI effectively into our organizations. “Build off the things we're used to, things we're comfortable with things that we have already built into our spaces. My number one piece of advice would be to embrace it as an individual because it will make you feel more comfortable in the workplace setting. Use it in your personal life so that you can then better understand the applications at work and be open-minded.”Alex highlights simple AI use cases that can lead to wider organizational buy-in. "There are a number of smaller use cases that organizations can begin to embrace today. Job descriptions are a great example. Ask ChatGPT to write a job description for you, then ask it to rewrite that job description from the perspective of a cool or edgy company.”“I would never suggest that you put your internal data in any sort of open environment, but asking to write a job description for an HR Business Partner is absolutely something that you can use.”Alex discusses challenges around AI, biases and DEI. “We hear things like we've removed anything that could create any sort of bias towards one particular group or another. We know however, that, that is just beginning to scratch the surface. The real trick here is something called humans in the loop. There's no world where I would recommend using artificial intelligence that doesn't include humans in the loop.”In conclusion, Alex advises HR professionals and talent acquisition professionals to use AI to enhance our skills. “The best advice I can give is to only use generative AI to augment your area of expertise.”“We should be using the years of expertise that put us in our jobs to analyze the output from generative AI. It should never replace the areas of expertise we already have.”Connect with Alex Zea on LinkedIn or find out more about Mercer Leapgen The Insurance Coffee House Podcast is hosted by Nick Hoadley, CEO of

This was the early days of computers in the workplace so having the ability to work his way around a PC became advantageous.Sainsburys were one of the first large organisations in the UK to open a Shared Service Centre and Dan was one of the first employees to start there. This was the catalyst to his career taking the direction it has.Dan has run large scale technical and systems implementation but he believes it's vitally important in getting the part right of taking people through that journey, to ensure the tech lands successfully. It's effectively change management and we delve into the factors that ensure change and transformation projects go as smoothly as possible. We also tackle the concept of AI and how it might impact the world of HR in the future.Dan clearly loves what he does and has found a niche within the HR universe that enables him to get a buzz out of what he does each day but also what the future might have in store for all of us through the use of technology in the workplace. I loved chatting with Dan and hope you enjoy listening as much.Support the show

In this episode, I dive into a heartfelt chat with a dear friend and professional, Shannon Teixeira. We go way back, having worked together and shared life's twists and turns for over a decade. Shannon talks about her unconventional journey to HR leadership. Along the way we unravel the power of setting boundaries, trading the "doing" mentality for "being," and the importance of self-compassion. Shannon is all about fostering a multidimensional life and putting well-being at the forefront, especially after the lessons we've all learned from the COVID rollercoaster. I hope you enjoy this episode as we explore her shift from time management to energy management, and why it's the game-changer - not just for HR pros, but everyone. I hope you find some inspiring insights into creating a life that's both impactful and fulfilling. Stacie Shannon Teixeira's LinkedIn page. More episodes at StacieBaird.com.

This episode features an organization that is truly doing the deep work necessary to evolve culture.   My guests, Mychal Coleman Associate Vice President of Human Resources at Grand Valley State University and Lindsey DesArmo, Interim Director of Talent Management at GVSU, began the journey of culture evolution when they realized a few years ago, they were losing what had made their organization great for so many years and it was time to review and reset with a goal to reach higher by 2025.   In this episode, Lindsay and Mychal walk through the steps their team took to evolve their approach to HR and strategy resulting in evolution of the role of HR within the organization and further establishing wellness into the employee experience.  What I love about this episode is how it brings the beginning of culture evolution to life.  From the need to have senior leadership on board and involved in the conversation to the reality that change takes time and can be uncomfortable for some, yet when worked through intentionally it delivers a reward worth investing in… a culture that supports thriving humans and organizational sustainability. Over the last few years, the way we work has changed dramatically. We have transitioned from working in an office to working from home at scale to hybrid working. While this transition was challenging at first, we now expect to work from any device, on any network, in any location at any time. So the big question now is, how can we make work better? How can we improve the future of work? In this episode of Tech Talk Daily Podcast, I am joined by Doug Dennerline, CEO and Chairman, and Jamie Aitken, VP of HR Transformation at Betterworks.  as our special guests. Betterworks is a company that aims to help HR and business leaders make work better by providing innovative HR tech solutions. Doug and Jamie shed light on some of the most pressing HR tech trends shaping the future of work. They discuss employee-first work culture, new HR tech trends, pay transparency, quiet quitting and firing, and the role of tech in improving DEI. They also provide valuable insights and advice to business leaders on staying ahead of the curve and leveraging the latest HR tech trends to make work better. One of the key themes that emerges in our conversation is the importance of putting employees first. Doug and Jamie explain that an employee-first work culture is critical for building a motivated and engaged workforce. In today's hybrid working world, creating a culture that fosters collaboration, communication, and connection is more important than ever. HR tech solutions can play a vital role in facilitating this process. Another topic we explore in depth is the role of tech in improving DEI. As Doug and Jamie explain, HR tech solutions can help businesses identify and address bias in the hiring process, track diversity metrics, and provide training to help employees understand and embrace diversity. Toward the end of the podcast, we discuss the newly released book "Make Work Better" and who it is aimed at. The book is a collaboration between Doug and Jamie, providing insights into the trends shaping the future of work.  They give us a sneak peek into what readers can expect from the book and share their favorite book or song that has inspired them. Overall, this episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in making work better and staying up-to-date with the latest HR tech trends. So tune in, sit back, and enjoy the ride as we explore how tech is shaping the future of work!
