In the heart of our Christian journey, the tale of Lazarus' resurrection in John 11 offers profound insights into faith and spiritual salvation. This account inspires us to consider the significance of releasing those in need of help and the power of God's resurrection in our lives. Join us on this spiritual journey as we unravel the story and its timeless lessons. Highlights God's Ability to Deliver: The songwriter, William Ogden, reminds us that God is not only able to deliver us but is willing to do so. This message of deliverance resonates deeply, offering hope to those who feel trapped in the course of sin. Everyone Deserves a Chance: The story of Lazarus teaches us that no one is beyond redemption. Even the most broken souls, when they come to Jesus, come with baggage. As believers, it's our duty to help them shed their burdens and embrace a new life. The Power of Belief: Martha's unwavering faith in Jesus' ability to resurrect her brother serves as a powerful lesson. In times of adversity, our belief in God's promises can lead to miraculous outcomes. Spiritual Sickness: Just as Lazarus was physically ill, the unsaved are spiritually sick. This accounts for their spiritual death. It's crucial to recognize this sickness and turn to God for spiritual healing. Death and Resurrection: Lazarus' physical resurrection mirrors the spiritual resurrection experienced by those who find salvation in Jesus. It highlights the separation of the soul from God as the second death, emphasizing the importance of spiritual life. God's Timing: Jesus' timing in raising Lazarus demonstrates that God's plans may not align with our expectations. Patience and trust in God's timing are key elements of faith. Releasing Others: Just as those around Lazarus had to remove his grave clothes, we too must help release others from the burdens that hold them back. It's a call to support, uplift, and encourage one another on our spiritual journeys. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gnbc/message

Under the shadow of a man's strength, a woman finds her rest. Good stuff. We have a responsibility to fight not only for our own hearts, but for those we love as well. Women want to know that you value HER. The universe is so vast and so ageless that the life of just one man can only be measured by his sacrifice. Every man needs an adventure to live. The essence of the book pushes you to ask the big questions of life. What am I going to risk? Will I trust God or will I sell out for money? Don't “drift” with the strongest current at the time - learn to swim upstream to your dream! What's the cost of not doing what you've been designed to do! Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul by John Eldredge Roundtable Discussion Participants: Michael Thornberry, Gabe Boyd, Parker Panetti and Dan Panetti Episode 3: Chapters 7-9 I don't trust a man who hasn't suffered. If you don't realize your weaknesses, you still believe you can be self-sufficient and do life on your own. You cannot be the man who rescues until you're the man without the horse. Good line! You can't give what you don't possess. Having kids is an incredible journey into self-awareness. Christ is not only the “chief-sufferer” he's also the “chief-physician.” He not only understands our sufferings, He is the solution for our problems, the “balm of Gilead.” Ignorance is not a resolution. Distinction between a warrior and a mercenary. A mercenary fights for his own benefit. A warrior serves something or someone higher than himself! If you know the enemy, and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you'll also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle. Sun Tzu, The Art of War Let people feel the weight of who you are and let them deal with it. Sabotage happens when we give our strength away. The most selfish thing is not wanting to run at full strength! You are wasting people's time if you're not in God's Word each day. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law [God's Word], the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.  James 1:23-25 If we ignore the enemy, then he wins. Learning to fight starts with remembering. How many of us have spent “extra” time at work? Compare with this question - how many of us have spent “extra” time with God? Which one gets our time, attention, and priority?

Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul by John Eldredge Roundtable Discussion Participants: Michael Thornberry, Gabe Boyd, Parker Panetti and Dan Panetti Episode 2: Chapters 4-6 My job as a father is to point my kids to the cross of Jesus Christ! Until a man knows he's a man, he'll forever try to prove he's one…and at the same time he'll shrink from anything that might prove that he's not. What's the role of women in training up a man? Femininity can arouse masculinity, but it can't produce it. If you've given your wife the power to validate you as a man, she has the power to invalidate you as well. Who am I looking to for the validation of my manhood? Are these people who will build you up or tear you down? Do we look to God, the author and perfecter of our faith to validate who we are? When we become performance driven to validate our identity, it produces a culture of self-centered, independent men who only care about themselves. Men think they are on their own because they've created a bubble around them to “protect” themselves from being hurt - reality is that our strength and significance come from inside, from our relationship to the Lord, not from what we do in terms of performance… The only thing more tragic than the tragedy that happens is the way that we handle it! “Rubbing dirt” on the real wounds of life can actually make things worse! The wound you've embraced is a wound you can not heal. The wound you think you deserve is a wound you can not heal. Wow, that's good stuff! If you deal with a wound properly, that transformation can change your life in a positive manner! Sometimes the best teacher is failure. A man needs a much bigger orbit than a woman - some larger purpose - only then can he invite someone into this mission!

Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul by John Eldredge Roundtable Discussion Participants: Michael Thornberry, Gabe Boyd, Parker Panetti and Dan Panetti Episode 1: Chapters 1-3 Every man is going to have 1) a battle to fight, 2) a beauty to rescue, and 3) an adventure to live. What is a Christian man? Eldredge tries to present a target to aim for in life…if you aim for nothing, you'll hit it every time! Jesus is our example and our model for life. Eldredge addresses the concept of what a Christian man isn't…he examines what the world has tried to make men into and the traps that far too many guys fall into that keep them from becoming the men that God has designed. Don't settle for “good” when the goal should be “godly!” Godliness includes goodness, but goes beyond that. The world doesn't need nice guys - it needs warriors! Dangerous men who live under control. Do you need to be whitewater rafting down a river in Colorado to truly understand what it means to be a man? No…but Eldredge is trying to get a person out of their comfort zones to see that life is greater and grander than what they have settled for.  The question that haunts every man - am I [blank] enough? Am I strong enough? Am I smart enough? Am I rich enough? That's not the question you should be asking. The I AM IS enough! Manhood shouldn't be defined by a performance standard, but needs to be understood from a Biblical perspective because God is the author and designer of manhood. “What is a Christian man” is an IDENTITY question. Your purpose doesn't create your identity - your identity determines and gives you a purpose. Who you are should dictate what you do and not the other way around!

How many times have you been asked, “What do you do?” Or “What does your dad do?” or “What does your husband do?” Aside from the possible conversation about how we could be better at not just assuming automatically that the men make all the money (we'll save that one for another day), I always cringe a little at this question because it of course implies, “What do you do for work?” or “How do you make money?” What I'd love to change in our society is the idea that what we do (or how we make money) is the pinnacle of what defines us. What you do is so much more than how money comes into your bank account, right? Today Neil and I are talking about his journey with this - the idea that what you do for work defines you. We're sharing his story of losing his job in a career he loved, to moving into a job that humbled him to the core, and how that led to him truly defining what his purpose is in this life.   This week's episode is brought to you by Lumineux. I (Kristen) am going to be very open and transparent in this post because I want you to know that Christ has the power to help us overcome our sin and to find lasting victory. In today's episode, I'm going to share my story of struggle with masturbation and offer you the biblical truths that I believe can set any woman free. Shine Bright: 60 Days to Becoming Girl Defined by God Sex, Purity and the Longings of a Girl's Heart: Discovering the Beauty and Freedom of God-Defined Sexuality 2021 Girl Defined Conference Girl Defined: Discovering God's Design for Beauty, Femininity and Identity Love Defined: Embracing God's Vision for Lasting Love and Satisfying Relationships Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/girldefined)

Ep. 022 - What's the harm in dating a non-Christian guy? What if he's a highly moral guy, but he's not a Christian. Is dating okay? We love each other and love is bigger than religion, right? We get asked these questions and more on a regular basis.  Christian girls want to know if it's biblically okay for a christian girl to date a non-christian guy. The argument goes, "It's not like we're getting married. It's just dating." In today's episode on The Girl Defined Show, we dig deep into God's Word and unpack five reasons why we believe it's not wise for christian and a non-christian to be a dating relationship. 2021 Girl Defined Conference Shine Bright: 60 Days to Becoming Girl Defined by God Girl Defined: Discovering God's Design for Beauty, Femininity and Identity Love Defined: Embracing God's Vision for Lasting Love and Satisfying Relationships Sex, Purity and the Longings of a Girl's Heart: Discovering the Beauty and Freedom of God-Defined Sexuality

Instead, take some time to begin praying and asking God to provide a godly older woman to mentor you. Join the wives of Mike's “Wise Guys” men's group (from Episode 15) as they discuss the power of their husbands' small group and the positive ripple effect it has on their family.  Guys… If you've ever wondered whether your wife would be ok with you joining a small group and adding one more thing to the calendar, this just might be the encouragement you need to hear.  Ladies… If you've ever wondered if the extra time your man will be spending away from you to invest in small group will be worth it, don't take my word for it. Listen to these women discuss the value of knowing their husbands have other Christian men in their lives. These are men they can be real, authentic, and open with; men who can encourage one another in the Lord and as a result, encourage one another in their marriage and family as well.   Benefits these wives discuss:  “He wants to talk more when he comes home.”  “It helps him become more attentive to me.”  “I feel more cherished.”  “He has guys to carry the load and share the burden.”  “I can be his encourager, but I'm not the only one who knows how he really feels.”  Resources that have helped these wives understand their husbands better:  The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian  For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahn (and For Men Only by Shaunti and Jeff Feldhahn)  Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul by John Eldredge  Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs by Emerson Eggerichs  Proverbs 27:17  Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10  Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. John worked as a counselor in private practice before launching Ransomed Heart—a ministry devoted to helping people discover the heart of God, recover their own hearts in God's love, and learn to live in God's Kingdom. John and his wife Stasi live in Colorado Springs. Highlights 05:50 Where the ministry began 9:30 It isn't enough for a man to be kind or nice 11:30 Every boy is asking, "Do I have what it takes?" and when they don't get an answer, they are still searching as an adult 13:20 The mood of the room is set by the leader, and you lead by vulnerability and by inviting them to an adventure: boredom is what is killing men in church 16:00 Group retreats take men into their own hearts and back into their own stories to where they lost heart 19:00 Unplugging and getting away from the distraction is important to getting more out of the program 21:35 Writing his most recent book, Get Your Life Back: Everyday Practices for a World Gone Mad—the pace of life was becoming too much for him so he began to look for ways to get away from the chaos in the midst of living 24:05 Are you giving more of your attention to what's happening in the world than you are to God? The war in the world is for our attention; this increases stress, which even wears us down physically 26:00 Your attention gets taken away from other things, the things that help you relax and connect with others; put your phone down 27:15 Surrender: Knowledge gives us a sense of control, of safety and security, but God wants to be our security 29:00 Disconnect and become human again: putting away the phone releases us to perform better and to be a human being unplugged from technology and doing real things 30:15 The big lie: technology was going to give us more margin to do the things we love, but instead it has connected us to the chaos of information, fear, and anxiety 32:20 We have a divided attention and a divided affection, but we can learn to create soulful space for a little bit of time each day 35:00 John found he couldn't even play with his grandchildren for even a few minutes without turning to his phone and checking it 35:55 Our souls are on empathy overload: benevolent detachment is required to disconnect from everything and give it back to God (1 Peter 5) because we are not the Savior 39:00 App: The One Minute Pause 41:00 Transitional spaces: Jesus spent three days—walking—to get from one place to another, and we need to find the downtime and the transitions 44:10 Restating belief: Do you have a confident sense that God is in control of the universe?
