Sara Sharif's killers, Urfan Sharif and Beinash Batool, were sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday 17 December 2024. It was a Family Court Judge who delivered Sara into the hands of her torturers and killers, despite Sharif's extensive history of abuse against three women and two children. Sara's case is not an anomaly. Nearly every six days in the USA a child is killed amid a custody dispute or catastrophic family court decision. Join Laura, Dr Christine Cocchiola and Amy Polacko as they expose catastrophic failures in Family Courts where children are placed further at risk and protective mothers are framed as the problem. This is an urgent call to action. Parental alienation is one of the most heartbreaking and complex challenges parents can face during and after divorce. It leaves families fractured and kids caught in the middle, often feeling torn between two parents. In this episode, I dive deep into the court system's current approach to parental alienation and why it so often fails to protect children. If you've been alienated from your child or fear it may happen, this conversation is essential for understanding what's at stake and how you can fight back. Together with Michele Locke, Esq., we explore the limitations of the legal system and why parental alienation cases are so hard to navigate, particularly when it comes to jury trials. Michele shares her personal and professional experiences, from her time on the bench handling over 5,000 family law cases to her private practice dealing with the most extreme custody battles. Her unique perspective, having been on both sides of the courtroom and living through divorce herself, sheds light on the deep-rooted issues that plague the system. Michele is a former Associate Family Court Judge with over two decades of experience as an attorney, judge, and advocate. She's fought in the trenches, witnessing firsthand how parental alienation plays out in real life. As a lawyer in Texas, the only state that still allows jury trials in custody cases, Michele brings us behind the scenes with stories from her career, offering valuable insights on how to approach these cases and protect your rights as a parent. Whether you're currently in the middle of a divorce or simply want to prepare yourself, you'll walk away with actionable steps and a better understanding of how to navigate this difficult terrain. A family court judge discusses Kentucky's new state truancy law, the Attorney General's office is launching a new office in Louisville, new affordable housing in Lexington, more than $18 million is going to several cities for infrastructure projects, and a Grammy-winning artist is donating her life's work to a Kentucky college.
Overcoming setbacks in law school is something our next guest is very familiar with. Judge Derwin L. Webb is the first African-American male Family Court Judge in the history of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. A first-generation attorney, Webb was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, but later moved to Louisville where he has lived for more than twenty-five years. A former standout basketball player at the University of Louisville for Hall of Fame basketball coach Denny Crum, Webb was a captain his senior year, and earned the respect of his peers both on and off the basketball court. As an undergraduate, he was elected as a senator in the Student Government Association. In this role he represented the interests of the student population and discovered the importance of public service. He joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. After receiving his B.S. in Political Science, he attended the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. Upon graduation, he began his legal career with the prestigious law firm, Stites & Harbison, where he learned all aspects of business and corporate law. He then returned to his alma mater to work as an Assistant Athletic Director where he supported the athletic department in areas of compliance, academics, and diversity. He was appointed by the president to serve on the University's Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality, the president's chief policy advisor on issues of diversity. He also served on numerous non-profit boards dedicated to improving the lives of individuals within the Kentuckiana region. This work earned Derwin the Business First “Forty Under Forty” Award for outstanding Louisville young professionals. In episode 478 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out what it was like being bussed to other districts for school as a kid, how we can solve the gun violence in this country, why he decided to play basketball for the University of Louisville, why he's the only player who had to pay admission to his own basketball game, why he joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., how he was able to overcome the setbacks at law school, why his road to becoming a judge wasn't easy either, what it is like to be the first African-American man to serve as judge in Louisville's Family Court, and what is The Chronicles of the Traveling Bookbag Tour. Enjoy!
About Us: Business owners, Chamber directors, industry leaders, Main Street Directors, school and hospital leaders discuss what's happening in North MS with station owner, Melinda Marsalis. Interviews are recorded in Ripley, MS at Sun Bear Studio, broadcast every Tuesday at 11 am on The Shark 102.3 FM Radio and added here to help you stay informed. If you would like to be considered for an interview, you can call or email Melinda. The Shark 102.3 FM Radio Station and Sun Bear Studio, located in Ripley, MS, are owned by Chris and Melinda Marsalis. Chris and Melinda have a passion for community development and love all of the amazing things that are going on in North Mississippi. This Week: Melinda sits down with Hawaiian Steel Guitarist Geri Valdriz during his visit in Ripley, MS. Listen to Geri's journey from Family Court Judge to Steel Guitarist to Radio DJ in Maui, Hawai'i. During their interview, Geri Valdriz gives his perspective of having a hard time during his initial visits to Ripley, MS because he was amazed at how much people here talked. He explains that he came to realize that the constant communication was the basis for connection to establish "ties" to each other. He says he learned to slow down and listen to what was really being said. In Hawai'i, there are also many small communities where most of the people are kin to the others or have long-term friendships so he was able to understand that need for connection. An attorney by profession, Geri also served as a Family Court Judge for over 15 years. Upon retirement, Geri began to refocus his attention on more artistic adventures and learned to play the Steel Guitar. As a Hawai'ian Steel Guitarist, Geri has had many opportunities to play with musicians in Memphis, TN as well as all over Hawai'i. Most listeners will not know that the steel guitar and the concept of playing a slide guitar actually originated in Hawai'i in the 1800's before it crossed over to America and later, the world. Geri also spends much of his time as a DJ on KMNO 91.7 FM, a non-profit radio station where he hosts a radio show every Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. called Hawai'ian Steel. The show features guests, musicians, Hawai'ian steel guitar music, and call-ins from listeners. Geri gives a fantastic interview and one listeners will enjoy. Give it a listen and then stream Geri's Tuesday night show from the following website. To enjoy the music of the islands, go to "manaoradio.com" every Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. for the KMNO 91.7 FM show, Hawai'ian Steel with host, Geri Vadriz. www.jc.media662-837-1023theshark1023@gmail.com Welcome to HEARD IT ON THE SHARK with your show host Melinda Marsalis and show sponsor, Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area. Unfortunately, her ex-husband, Ronald Samuels, continued to use his money and power to abuse her through a bitter custody and child support battle. Heather warned the Family Court Judge that there was something far more sinister than missing child support payments going on, but the Judge simply threatened Ron with contempt and suspended his visitation with their children. This only fueled Ron's hatred for Heather and put her in more danger. Listen along as Elysia shares this harrowing story of a man who thought he could get away with murder and the woman who survived to not only tell the tale, but help other victims of domestic violence. Slam the Gavel welcomes back Marineka Bowman to the podcast for an update on her case. Marineka was last on the podcast, Season 3, Episodes 104, 131, 159, 160, 174 and 184 as well as Season 4, Episode 22. The last time she was on we discussed the UNJUST decisions of Judge Natalie Haskins and GAL. Apparently they don't care about the effects this is having on her DAUGHTER. Marineka discussed Black History Month and the works of Thurgood Marshall. How he was a Civil Rights Attorney and how hard he FOUGHT to even get into law school to pave the way for other attorneys as well. Thurgood Marshall FOUGHT for EQUALITY for himself and others, families, the voiceless and discriminated against. However, he would be more than disheartened to know how judges and attorneys are behaving in Family Court to fit, loving parents as they rip their children away from them and do not look at evidence ESPECIALLY when photo's of abuse are shared to parties on THE FAMILY WIZARD. Especially in Marineka's case, the GAL, opposing attorney Laura Brooks and Judge Natalie Haskins. They are demanding Marineka do a psychological evaluation with a DFS Supervisor WHO DOESN'T HAVE A PH.D so they can keep the false narrative going of Marineka being mentally ill. Now it continues that her daughter is constantly being picked up late from daycare, is being held upside down and hit by the father's 17 year old son and they both continue to shave her daughter's head even for her pre-school picture. Somehow the Judge Haskins DOESN'T CARE about how this is affecting the child physically, emotionally and her self esteem. We talked about lawyers not acting in their capacity, such as Guardian Ad Litems as well as DFS. Marineka talked about a strange phone call that reached this podcast wondering where Marineka was. The harassment still continues. The last time she was on we discussed her daughter singing to her mother and the effects Judges and Attorneys are having on her child. Marineka discussed her faith and how advocacy has chosen her as she held her daughter's dolls and said she will be holding them until her daughter returns to her care. She also talked about the element of FORGIVENESS and how she is forgiving, so she herself can HEAL, but even though she has forgiven the opposing attorney Laura Brooks and Judge Natalie Haskins, they still have to answer to God for their mistakes. Also, Marineka explains why she wants this issue kept in the spotlight. This is to explain why and how her daughter was ripped away from her and how Alienation is being perpetuated by the father as he will not allow telephone calls with her daughter as well as Judge Haskins not filing her orders and Laura Brooks going along with it. The court continues to call Mother "crazy." This is commonplace in most courtrooms across the country, if not globally. Marineka brought up that she thinks the judges should be RE-TRAINED and LOOK at the EVIDENCE before removing a child from the loving, fit parent. Now her daughter is constantly picked up late from daycare, is being held upside down and hit by the father's 17 year old son and they both continue to shave her daughter's head. Slam the Gavel welcomes Dari Langone to the podcast for an update and overview. Dari was last on the podcast Season 3, Episode 156 and 189. Dari is a mother of three and she has explained how a foster couple utilized the BROKEN SYSTEM to kidnap her daughter at the age of eleven years old, going on twelve with selective mutism that she was growing out of in the last two podcasts. These individuals, Lainie and Robert Roldan deliberately inserted themselves into Dari's family's life 'pretending' to be a friend and to care. What happened next was the JCCA foster agency in NY. Their mission statement: "Repair the World, Child by Child," Dari disagrees with this and says it is more like destroy the world, child by child. They never intended on reunifying her daughter with herself, but instead conspired with the ACS (CPS) and Family court to keep her daughter away from her family. It is dumbfounding how the Family Court Judge, Judge Jacqueline Deane did not do the right thing and wrote a decision filled with lies and half-truths while allowing Dari's daughter to be absconded with by the foster couple to Florida. Was this a set-up? Dari talked about how her other daughter is going down to Florida next month. In the last podcast the Police Officers went to the house where Rhiannon is staying and were told, "Rhiannon is out living her life." Soon After Dari filed a Missing Person's report. Dari's daughter, Rhiannon is now 18 and mother fears that she will be put into a Guardianship as they are giving her sedatives to not only calm her but to control her. Dari also fears that Rhiannon may have Stockholm Syndrome, suffer from Coercive Control and Child Psychological Abuse . During the trial in 2018 the court knowingly had a social worker testify however, using a different social worker's name, which is suborning and/or perjury. This Family Court allowed Dari's daughter to go across state lines WITHOUT a proper ICPC in place. Mother implores on this podcast, "PLEASE HELP MY CHILD." This Family Court allowed Dari's daughter to go across state lines WITHOUT a proper ICPC in place. Mother implores on this podcast, "PLEASE HELP MY CHILD." Dari talked about going down to Florida and spoke to the Sheriff and two Police Officers. The Police Officers went to the house where Rhiannon is staying and were told, "Rhiannon is out living her life." Soon After Dari filed a Missing Person's report and will be returning back to Florida in the near future. Dari states, "that as long as I am alive I will get this rectified." Slam the Gavel welcomes Dari Langone to the podcast. She is a mother of two and she has explained how a foster couple utilized the BROKEN SYSTEM to kidnap her daughter at the age of eleven years old, going on twelve with selective mutism that she was growing out of. These individuals, Lainie and Robert Roldan deliberately inserted themselves into Dari's family's life 'pretending' to be a friend and to care. What happened next was the JCCA foster agency in NY, never intended on reunifying her daughter with herself, but instead conspired with the ACS (CPS) and Family court to keep her daughter away from her family. It is dumbfounding how the Family Court Judge, Judge Jacqueline Deane did not do the right thing and wrote a decision filled with lies and half-truths while allowing Dari's daughter to be absconded with by the foster couple to Florida. Dari's daughter, Rhiannon is now 18 and mother fears that she will be put into a Guardianship as they are giving her sedatives to not only calm her but to control her. With special guest: Simon Turner… in conversation with Bill Kable Simon Turner’s book Out on a Limb is refreshingly plain speaking. To read the book is like sitting down with a mate who has some important, perhaps life-changing, information to share. Using language we can all relate to, Simon takes us through the jungle that confronts a father at the gates of a Family Law dispute with the mother of their children. Simon discusses what he describes as the three golden rules that were passed on to him informally by a Family Court Judge in an Art Gallery rather than a court room. Based on these golden rules Simon gives some invaluable ideas about how a dad can give himself the best chance of continuing to parent his child after a separation or divorce. Podcast (mp3)

America's family structure has been dwindling for generations. In the past forty years, a striking rise in single-parent families has arisen particularly as the result of births to never-married mothers. Forty years ago, 10 percent of births were to unmarried mothers; today the proportion is over 40 percent. 60 percent of all children living in poverty are in households headed by a single parent, usually the mother. Women who start out poor and disadvantaged are more likely to become single parents. And due to income restrictions when receiving government assistance, single parents refrain from putting themselves or their children in positions to build wealth by opting out of wealth-generating vehicles such as real estate, homeownership, stocks, and life insurance. Former Family Court Judge & Legislature Greg Blass on LI in the AM with Jay Oliver! 5 - 19 - 21 by JVC Broadcasting
A 4-year-old girl will be vaccinated without her father's approval after a ruling handed down from the Family Court. The girl is under the care of Oranga Tamariki so legally has three guardians: her mother, her father and the chief executive of Oranga Tamariki. The girl attended pre-school, was reaching her developmental milestones and was healthy but had not received any of her childhood vaccinations because her father did not agree to them being administered. In October 2019 her father filed an objection to his daughter being immunised with the Family Court in Blenheim saying he did not want to put his daughter into a "forced vaccination programme".He said he had not been able to get sufficient information about the vaccines despite phone calls to the Ministry of Health and so had not been able to do the research he would have liked to do.He told the court he had not been vaccinated as a child and believed there was noneed for immunisations because the human body had its own natural immunity systemswhich could safeguard the body against diseases. The man also said he was concerned about the contents of the vaccines and the potential for side effects. The girl's mother was vaccinated during pregnancy and had consented to her daughter receiving the immunisations.Oranga Tamariki also supported the girl being vaccinated in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines which include rotavirus, diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, pneumococcal disease, measles, mumps, and rubella, chicken pox, and human papillomavirus.Judge Richard John Russell said there were no specific personal or health factors which would prevent the girl being vaccinated so ruled it was in her best interests to be vaccinated. He directed she be immunised according the Ministry of Health guidelines subject to her GP agreeing it was in her best interests. The GP was also to determine the timing and dosage given they were usually given at six weeks, three months and 15 months of age.It is not the first time a vaccination stoush has been decided in New Zealand courts. In 2019 a mother filed an application to prevent her child being vaccinated saying she was at risk of an adverse reaction because of other allergies while her father wanted her immunised.text by Amy Wiggins, NZ Herald

The Stranger In The Black Robe. There is a pervasive cultural myth that leads us to believe that once we have the "opportunity" to tell our side of the story in family court, we will somehow be able to convince the judge to rule in our "favor". It's a myth for a reason. In family court, the burden of proof is often insurmountable and based on narrow, self-serving perspectives. But, in this bonus episode, we present another view, the one from the bench. You'll hear the wise words of the Honorable Paul W. Garfinkel as he implores parents to understand that child custody rulings are really "judgment day for children". They have to live with the sentences handed down. Listen in to learn three ways to avoid the agonizing pitfalls of separation and truly put your children first.

Moms Moving On: Navigating Divorce, Single Motherhood & Co-Parenting.
Overnight schedules. Decision making for the children. Birthdays. Holidays. Doctor's appointments. There are SO many factors to consider carefully when creating a parenting plan. - only many of us don't know what to consider when putting together a parenting plan. That's why I consulted the expert of all experts, my husband, family court Judge Spencer Multack. Spencer is not only incredibly knowledgeable on all things "co-parenting," - he is FAIR and truly understands both sides and their needs when helping divorcing couples figure out the best way to create a parenting plan after their divorce. I'm lucky to be married to him, and everyone who appears in front of him in court is lucky, too. He not only has the expertise in his profession as a former lawyer-turned-judge, he's lived the divorce process himself, and has been co-parenting for almost 5 years now. The Hon. Spencer J. Multack, a graduate of Syracuse University and University of Miami Law School, once known for trying cases against public officials charged with corruption, was first appointed to the bench in 2011. Since then, he's presided over domestic violence issues, criminal cases, and now in the family court, all things divorce, co-parenting, and making the best decisions for the children involved.

Tonight's special guest is Tracey Heisler, from New Jersey, a returning NAASCA family member and executive director of the CASA program in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. Tonight we'll talk about CASA's child advocacy mission and the development of their program's 'Traveling Tutor initiative'. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, screens, trains, and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in the foster care system, giving them a voice that might not otherwise be heard. Mrs. Heisler, herself the mother of 8 children, has degrees in Psychology with an emphasis in Juvenile Justice and Forensics. She came to this work as a result of her mother and uncle's experiences of growing up in the foster care system in upstate New York. It is her life's mission to improve the quality of life for these children while in care and to facilitate their transition to their "forever family," whether through reunification, adoption, or kinship legal guardianship, as quickly as possible. The role of CASA is to advocate for children in out-of-home placement. The CASA is appointed by the Family Court Judge. The volunteer must read all of the child's records and interview people in the child's life and then makes recommendations to the court. All volunteers must be screened, fingerprinted and must agree to a federal, state and local background check before being accepted into a CASA 30 hour training session. Volunteers must be over the age of 21 and be able to provide their own transportation.
