What if the pressure you're putting on your fundraising campaign is actually the thing slowing it down?In this episode, I'm talking about something I watched play out on a Little League field this weekend: two coaches, same-age kids, same skill level, completely different energy, and completely different outcomes. And I couldn't stop thinking about how much it looked like what I see inside fundraising campaigns every single week. When you hold too tightly to a goal, when every quiet day feels like failure, when the whole campaign starts to feel like a final exam, that pressure changes everything: your messaging tightens, your team feels it, and your donors feel it. And ironically, the pressure creates the very outcome you were trying to avoid. I talk about what pressure actually does to campaign performance, why three of my clients inside The Purpose & Profit Club® thought they were behind when they were actually ahead, the difference between a dirty win and a beautiful loss, and what it really means to lead a campaign well all the way to the end.Topics:How white-knuckling a fundraising campaign changes the outcome, and not in the way you hopeThe payoff of pressure and why we hold onto it even when it hurts usWhat pressure actually does to campaign pacing, messaging, and team energyWhy three clients thought they were behind, and were actually aheadThe difference between a dirty win and a beautiful loss in fundraisingHow to lead a campaign well without making it a final examFor a full list of links and resources mentioned in this episode, click here.Bloomerang is the complete donor, volunteer, and fundraising management solution that helps thousands of nonprofits deliver a better giving experience and create sustainable, thriving organizations. This weekend, starting on Dec. 12, thousands of Jewish teens from nearly 70 countries, including Canada, will be participating in BBYO's annual #GlobalShabbat weekend, featuring dances, Havdalah services and other meaningful Jewish events in between. These BBYO high schoolers can thank Vancouver student Levi Moskovitz for helping raise a lot of the money to pay for it. Moskovitz, a Grade 12 King David High School student with a passion for finance, is halfway through his term serving as BBYO International's treasurer. Elected in February, he's the sole Canadian teen on the current leadership board of the century-old Jewish youth organization. As treasurer, a title known as Grand Aleph Gizbor, Moskovitz has many duties—among them, overseeing a global fundraising blitz last week, called #GivingBBYODay, where they raised $1.6 million in a single day. But Moskovitz, 17, is equally proud of his success revitalizing BBYO chapters here in Canada and attracting hundreds of new teens to find community and a safe space after Oct. 7. On today's episode of The CJN's North Star podcast, we hear from Levi Moskovitz in Vancouver to hear why BBYO is sort of a family business. His father, Rabbi Dan Moskovitz, himself a former BBYO international leader, also joins, and we'll hear from BBYO's regional director in Winnipeg, Jonah Posner. Linda Blair joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the start of the 2026 Kewanee Area United Way (KAUW) fundraising campaign. KAUW's annual fundraising campaign is now underway across the Tri-Counties, following an October kickoff event hosted by the Kewanee Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. Executive Director Linda Blair highlights a challenging year, with donations down as much as 40%. Many contributions may be tax-deductible, and ongoing workplace campaigns—where employees pledge a small amount from each paycheck—are a key source of funding. United Way tracks how funds are used, offering donors transparency and accountability. Current projects include the successful Shoes for Kids initiative, which partners with school systems to provide footwear to children in need. The organization also supports food assistance and utility aid through grants to groups like the Salvation Army. Community involvement remains crucial as the demand for assistance continues to rise. Even so, recent support from businesses like Peoples National Bank and Great Dane—recent donations include $8,300 and almost $4,000, respectively—has helped the organization continue funding for local agencies, including food pantries, youth programs, and the Shoes for Kids initiative. KAUW helped 15 agencies in 2025, providing over $80,000 in contributions. The amount of money and number of agencies they can help are dependent on donations from businesses and individuals. Community fundraisers such as Jail and Bail, trivia contests, and Rock and Roll Bingo are all planned to boost support in 2026. Donations can be made online, by mail at KAUW, PO Box 426, Kewanee, IL, 61443, or in person at 200 East Street South. Follow KAUW on Facebook and stay up-to-date with information.
In this episode of The First Day from The Fundraising School, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., is joined by the philanthropic powerhouse himself, Gene Tempel, Ed.D., Dean Emeritus and founding father of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Together, they dive headfirst into a question that keeps many nonprofit leaders up at night: “Is this a bad time to launch a capital campaign?” The answer? Well, let's just say it's complicated, but not impossible. Gene reminds us that before we start counting pledges, we've got to answer the most basic question: What's the compelling case for support? It's not about shinier buildings or more vans, it's about fulfilling the mission and addressing urgent needs in society. Now, if you're waiting for a perfect economy, spoiler alert: you'll be waiting a long time. From the energy crisis to the Great Recession to COVID, Gene's seen it all, and fundraisers kept fundraising. Instead of running from uncertainty, nonprofits should focus on preparation. That means digging into the test for readiness, planning like it's a chess game (hello, “what-if” scenarios), and launching feasibility studies that give donors the mic. Because, as Gene points out, “not everyone is affected the same way” in tough times. Some donors are doing just fine and may even be more ready to give than you think. Gene takes us inside the anatomy of a capital campaign and zeroes in on the often-forgotten “middle of the gift range chart,” the fundraising Bermuda Triangle. We know our biggest donors. We love our annual givers. But what about those $2,000 donors who could be cultivated into $25,000 champions? “That's where it breaks down,” Gene says. Building systems to engage mid-level donors isn't just smart, it's essential. It's also okay to fail the readiness test, pause a campaign, or renegotiate pledge timelines. Flexibility is not a weakness. It's leadership. Gene offers some pop-culture perspective: as Billy Joel once sang, “We didn't start the fire,” and neither did you. History is full of crises, but capital campaigns still thrive. “If you have a compelling case, urgency, internal readiness, and donor validation,” Gene says, “then go forward.” And if things go sideways? Adjust, adapt, and keep your eyes on the mission. Because fundraising isn't just about money, it's about movement. And thanks to legends like Dr. Tempel, this movement's got a playbook for every season.
Launching a capital campaign is one thing. Raising over $200 million and outgrowing your original goals is another. In this episode of The Responsive Lab, hosts Carly Berna and Scott Holthaus sit down with Dr. Will Smallwood, Vice President for Advancement at Cedarville University, to unpack the story behind the wildly successful “One Thousand Days Transformed” campaign. Dr. Smallwood shares the campaign's roots in mission-first storytelling, how strategic planning turned into campus-wide buy-in, and what it really takes to build momentum, from data-informed planning to real-time transparency with donors. You'll hear the lessons Cedarville learned while expanding a campaign goal from $125M to $175M, and ultimately raising over $205M. Plus, Will reflects on what he'd do differently, including that time they switched CRMs mid-campaign. If you've ever called 211 here in Southwest Florida to find assistance with things like housing, food, healthcare, mental health — the list goes on — the United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades is who is supporting the 211 service, and is helping to fund the many agencies and nonprofits around the region who are there to help. Each year their fundraising campaign is designed to raise the money they need to help fund more than 90 partner agencies who help around a half-million people each year. Put simply, the United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades provides an essential backbone for social services in southwest Florida. We learn about a breakfast on Monday, Aug. 4 that will help set the tone for this year's campaign.

Get back to basics with....DEVELOPMENT BASICS The Biblical Basis for Development for Nonprofit Leaders https://www.fundraisingmasterminds.net/development-basics NEED HELP WITH YOUR NONPROFIT? Most nonprofits are under-funded. Even if you think your nonprofit is doing well, we've found you could be doing much better. However, most nonprofits don't have a clear development strategy that keeps them grounded. As a result, they "get creative" and "try new things" based on what is popular or trending, or they get comfortable with where they are at and don't realize the dangers they will be facing in just a few short years. The Perfect Vision Dinner Course is a 20-week "live video" course that addresses this problem head on. The course was developed by Jim Dempsey after 38+ years as a Senior Development Director at Cru. After Jim had personally done over 2,500 vision dinners in his lifetime and raised over $1 billion worldwide, Jim and Jason have partnered together to bring you Fundraising Masterminds. Our first course, The Perfect Vision Dinner is a time-tested proven formula that will introduce our development system and grow your nonprofit to its maximum potential. The course includes 20-hours of personalized development coaching from Jim Dempsey and Jason Galicinski and also includes a real-time community group where you have access to everyone attending the course and also our Masterminds throughout the course. The goal for this course is to fully equip you with a Biblical basis for Development so that you can Win, Keep and Lift new partners to higher levels of involvement with your nonprofit. → https://FundraisingMasterminds.net FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: → Instagram: https://instagram.com/fundraising.masterminds → Facebook: https://facebook.com/fundraising.masterminds Episode Keywords: Giving Tuesday planning, nonprofit event planning, fundraising episodes, year-end fundraising, year-end fundraising campaign, year end fundraising, year end fundraising campaign, mastering your year-end fundraising campaign, 7 steps to mastering your year-end fundraising campaign, master your year-end fundraising campaign, how to master your year-end fundraising campaign, how to structure the perfect year-end campaign, matching gift strategy, giving tuesday, how to identify your #1 cause concept, cause concept, fundraising masterminds, jim dempsey, jim. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fundraising-masterminds/support

Messy Family Podcast : Catholic conversations on marriage and family
Parenting isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about showing up over and over again no matter what. Summary Some may question how a celibate man could have wisdom for husbands and wives, let alone parents. But in this interview with Fr. Mike Schmitz, host of the Bible in a Year podcast, we think everyone will agree that his insights are awesome! Drawing from his own family experience as well as his role as a spiritual father, Fr. Mike shares with us how to love children who have fallen away from the church, the importance of your marriage to your walk with God, and why you actually don't need to have the perfect plan for your family. In this conversation we laughed and cried as we reflected on the beauty and difficulties of life in a family (with some special shoutouts to middle children!). Listen in as we have an honest and inspiring talk with a priest whose ministry has blessed so many. Key Takeaways Our family of origin impacts us more than almost anything else in our lives. Parents put so much pressure on themselves to be perfect that sometimes they miss out on the joy of family life. It's more important that we are intentional about family life than we have the “perfect plan” on how to be a family. It's not a bad thing for kids to see their parents have conflict as long as they are also able to experience the effects of their reconciliation. We can't make the world safe for our kids, but we do need to make our kids strong. The heart of the Father is the heart of the priesthood. If someone falls away from the Church, we may be tempted to cut them out or approve of everything they do, but neither is correct. Remain in their lives in a consistent and uncompromising way, recognizing that their story isn't over. Couple Discussion Questions Are there areas in our family life that we need to evaluate and possibly change? Is there a course we are on that we need to correct? Knowing that our kids will be growing up in a difficult world, how can we make them strong? How can we respond better to those who have turned away from Christ or His Church? How can we keep those lines of communication open? Who are the “spiritual fathers” in our life? How can we pray for them? In this episode of "All About Capital Campaigns," co-hosts Amy Eisenstein and Andrea Kihlstedt dive into the intricate world of fundraising campaigns. They explore the key differences between capital campaigns and comprehensive campaigns, helping you understand which one might be the right choice for your organization. Capital campaigns are usually project-focused, aiming to build or renovate specific facilities that significantly enhance an organization's capacity. On the other hand, comprehensive campaigns encompass a broader range of fundraising, including annual funds, endowments, and more. Amy and Andrea discuss the pros and cons of each approach, considering factors like donor loyalty, organization type, and the impact on accounting and stewardship. They offer insights into when to choose a capital campaign, particularly for smaller, community-based organizations, and when a comprehensive campaign may be more suitable, as is often the case with universities. Throughout the episode, they emphasize the importance of clarity in campaign policies and recognition to ensure everyone involved, from donors to development teams, fully understands the fundraising goals. Tune in to gain a better understanding of which campaign type aligns with your organization's unique needs and goals, and learn how to make the right choice for your next fundraising endeavor.

Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics: Chassidus Applied to Post ShavuosHow do we maintain inspiration after the initial spark dissipates? If G-d gave every Jew the Torah for free, why are yeshiva tuitions so expensive? What positive changes can I expect now that I have finally counted Sefira all 49 days with a brocha? What do we learn from the seven days of tashlumin? Chassidus Applied to BehaalotechaWhat do we learn from lighting the Menorah in a way that the “flames rise on their own”? Why were the Levites commanded to shave off all their hair? How about their beards? Why did the Jews complain about the manna – the perfect food? Who were Eldad and Medad? Why was Miriam punished for criticizing Moshe? Is there a connection between Miriam waiting seven days and the mikveh? Is it appropriate for schools to have their children solicit their families for a fundraising campaign? Why are people so opposed to the government requiring yeshivas to teach more secular studies? Chassidus question: If there is a connection between Shemitah and Shabbos, why is Shemitah only observed within the borders of Israel but Shabbos is observed everywhere?
