Tune in as Shawn Murphy (Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies Podcast) rejoins the program to review and recap Color of Night, the 1994 erotic thriller that takes us on a wild and atmospheric ride with a color-blind psychiatrist who gets himself caught up in a murder mystery and a steamy affair simultaneously. An intense BTS feud that led to different cuts of this movie being released, drawing inspiration from giallo, the therapy group in the plot acting like a dysfunctional family, and 90s-era queer representation that's both progressive for its time and dated for our contemporary world comprise just a few of the subjects that get coverage in today's episode. Directed by Richard Rush, Color of Night stars Bruce Willis, Jane March, Rubén Blades, Lesley Ann Warren, Scott Bakula, Brad Dourif, Lance Henrikson, Kevin J. O'Connor, Andrew Lowery, Eriq La Salle, Jeff Corey, Kathleen Wilhoite, Shirley Knight, and Erick Avari. The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 16: Time Present, Time Past Aired on CBS: April 20, 1989 Directed by: Gordon Hessler Written by : Tom Towler Featuring: William Zabka, Shirley Knight, Brian Bedford, Dennis Boutsikaris A big episode for the larger Equalizer through-story: First, the second appearance of Kay: Equalizer's ex-wife and Scott's mother. Shirley Knight got a Best Guest Actress Emmy nomination for her "You were never there for us... and now look what you've done: Scott's been kidnapped by the Bulgarian Embassy" scenes with Edward Woodward. Secondly, this episode is a series wrap for William Zabka, and what a way to go: a training montage, thwarting the Bulgarians, losing his innocence, listening an opera album on headphones. It's a tour de force. And then the action itself - brotherly strife between two Bulgarian spies by two veteran guest stars of the show - packs a punch and checks off one more country whose spies the Equalizer has taken head on. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com https://www.facebook.com/equalizerspodcast/

In many ways, the story of Francis Ford Coppola in the 1960s is a true parallel to the story of the dissolution and subsequent restructuring of Hollywood throughout the decade. Coppola got into the film industry quickly after graduating college, he started in nudie flicks and worked his way up through various low budget Roger Corman pictures. After earning his MFA in film from UCLA in 1967, he graduated to working on blockbusters – only to find himself drawn to a style of independent film later known as New Hollywood. In this episode, Bart and Jenna pinpoint what it is about Francis Ford Coppola that's continually inspirational, and debate which of his many masterful films are their favorites - but then remember they're supposed to be talking about all his ‘60s juvenilia instead. Listen as they brave a handful of lighthearted nudie flicks, mediocre genre cash-ins, a couple of fascinating failures and one genuinely great film. The following films are discussed:• Tonight for Sure (1962) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola & Jerry Schafer Starring Karl Schanzer, Don Kenney, Marli Renfro• The Bellboy and the Playgirls (1962) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola & Fritz Umgelter Starring June Wilkinson, Don Kenney, Karin Dor• Battle Beyond the Sun (1962) Directed by Mikhail Karyukov and Aleksandr Kozyr & Francis Ford Coppola Starring Ivan Pereverzev, Aleksandr Shvorin, Konstantin Bartashevich• The Terror (1963) Directed by Roger Corman & Monte Hellman & Francis Ford Coppola & Jack Hale & Dennis Jakob & Jack Nicholson & Jack Hill Starring Boris Karloff, Jack Nicholson, Sandra Knight• Dementia 13 (1963) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Starring Luana Anders, Bart Patton, Patrick Magee• You're a Big Boy Now (1966) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Starring Peter Kastner, Elizabeth Hartman, Geraldine Page• Finian's Rainbow (1968) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Starring Fred Astaire, Petula Clark, Tommy Steele• The Rain People (1969) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Starring James Caan, Shirley Knight, Robert Duvall

It's always a special day when we have the opportunity to chat with an actor from the original Star Trek series, especially one with a resume like today's guest. Carl Held appeared in the first season episode "The Return of The Archons" as Lt. Lindstrom, a character with a decent amount of screen time, but whose face was covered up by Shatner in most scenes, and whose sub-plot was completely eliminated from the final cut. You can bet we get to the bottom of why that happened!Growing up during the Great Depression and serving in the US military, his first big stage performance in the late 1950s, where he met his wife and fellow Trek Alumni Sarah Marshall and some actor you may have heard of - William Shatner - who he understudied for. He also explains why he believes his casting in the episode was a mistake by Gene Roddenberry, and why so many of his scenes were cut from the episode. Plus, getting a ride home from Deforest Kelley and being beaned in the head by a rock in the show!Plus, what he learned from Raymond Burr on "Perry Mason," his appearance on the original Outer Limits with Martin Landau and Shirley Knight, sharing the stage with Patrick Stewart in repertory with the Royal Shakespeare Company of London, working with Sean Connery in a James Bond movie, his appearance on the "Incredible Hulk" TV show, the mystery behind his many screen-names including Christopher Held and Carl Byrd, his favorite experience filming a movie, and much more!At 88 years of age, Carl Held is still just as sharp as ever and has a lot of great stories to tell about his life and career.Don't forget to subscribe to the show and leave a rating if you like us!The views expressed on air during Trek Untold do not represent the views of the RAGE Works staff, partners, or affiliates. Episode 190: The Crew's sidestepping the cracks in the sidewalk as they discuss, As Good As It Gets. It's a fun, feel good romantic comedy with a main character who is a complete jerk. But he's really a teddy bear. Yes, that sounds like loads of romantic comedies, but the writing and acting elevate this to something really special. The character's motivations make sense and the three leads all have full character arcs. The film was a box-office hit (grossing $148 million) during Titanic's historic box-office run. It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards, winning 2 for Best Actor and Best Actress. Interview with Producer ANNE LUNDGREN – Film Black Road, Calvin Marshall, and Redwood Highway Film BLACK ROAD is written and directed by Gary Lundgren and produced by Anne Lundgren. Together they own Joma Films in Ashland, Oregon. Working with a team of Oregonians, we have made two features in the Rogue Valley, CALVIN MARSHALL (2009) and REDWOOD HIGHWAY (2014). This neo-noir thriller is about an ex-military drifter who’s hired by a mysterious woman to protect her from a homicidal ex. With an A.I. implant in his head, DYLAN has a virtual companion and moral compass as his situation spirals out of control. Like classic film noir, BLACK ROAD reflects the insecurities of our time; the flailing American job market, economic inequality, government intrusion on civil liberties and our growing love affair with technology.  At the heart of this movie is a simple story of desire and disillusionment. Our hero craves a stable life, satisfying work and meaningful relationships…but he’s in trouble – caught between $18M in gold, a femme fatal and the maniac who wants her dead. PREVIOUS FILMS Redwood Highway (2014) Downright charming. The fiercely independent Marie is someone we root for, worry about and wring our hands over in equal measure. – LOS ANGELES TIMES It’s a low-key charmer with a large-souled performance at the center. One of the best roles of [Shirley Knight’s] career. – THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER Calvin Marshall (2009)  The best baseball movies are there when we need them, and now we have another classic. -THE AUSTINIST Steve Zahn gives a career-best performance in this low-key gem. -THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER Wow & Flutter (short film)  Seventeen heartbreakingly exhilarating minutes. – Hampton Style Magazine A fabulous movie about how life can be so cruel, but how all that bile can disappear with just one kiss. – ***** FILM THREAT Thank You for checking out Hollywood Breakthrough Show! During her month in the cast of the Off-Broadway comedy "Love, Loss and What I Wore", Shirley Knight discusses the appeal of the "stool and music stand" style of presentation while pointing out that she had the only continuing narrative among the many interwoven stories. She also explains why she considers her every appearance on stage to be a rehearsal, not a performance; her attraction to the groundbreaking play "Dutchman" by LeRoi Jones (now Amiri Baraka), which she did in Los Angeles and on film; how she shifted from a planned career in music to acting and her trek out west to the Pasadena Playhouse to pursue that new goal; the extraordinary experience of appearing as Irina in "The Three Sisters" in her Broadway debut, with Geraldine Page and Kim Stanley as her siblings under the direction of Lee Strasberg -- and why she chose that role over playing Ophelia to Richard Burton's "Hamlet"; her years working in England, notably in plays by her husband John Hopkins, which she continued to perform upon their return to the U.S.; her memorable role in Robert Patrick's "Kennedy's Children"; what it was like to have Tennessee Williams write a role expressly for her in "A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur"; her affinity for the plays of fellow Kansan William Inge and her role in creating the ongoing Inge Festival; and her affection for the work of Horton Foote, which marked her most recent Broadway appearance, in the Pulitzer-winning "The Young Man from Atlanta". G&D 11-23-08Laurie Jacobson is a celebrated Hollywood researcher and author who released her fourth book in 2008. Timmy’s in the Well – The Jon Provost Story – Cumberland House celebrates the 50th anniversary of Timmy from the original Lassie TV series. The book is a memoir she co-wrote with Provost, her husband. Prior to Timmy’s in the Well, Laurie published the saucy and inventive Dishing Hollywood – Cumberland, 2nd printing, spilling the beans on 43 Tinseltown scandals – with a pertinent recipe connected to each one. Laurie’s second book, Hollywood Haunted – Angel City Press, 7th printing covers more than 100 years of ghostly goings-on in filmland. Recently, Laurie also made her film debut alongside Oscar-nominee Shirley Knight in Not Fade Away, now in post production. A reformed stand-up comic, Laurie emerged from Harvey Lembeck’s Comedy Improv Workshop, where she worked for years with classmates like Robin Williams, John Larroquette and John Ritter. While performing with comedy groups, Laurie immersed herself in studying the history of those who came before her. The stories and interviews she collected during this period became the basis for her debut, archetype book, Hollywood Heartbreak – Simon & Schuster, 3 printings, a 75-year history of Hollywood told through the lives and deaths of 31 people. Following its publication, Laurie emerged as a leading Hollywood historian.
