Arj Barker! Comedian! Actor! Friend! Delight! More! Arj's new comedy album The Mind Field is out now from Blonde Medicine! We have a great talk and you can have a great listen! ABOUT ARJ BARKER: Barker started his comedy career in the 90s as a dare but quickly dropped out of college to focus on the craft. Through the years he developed his distinct performance style, characterized by heavy sarcasm, absurd logic, and a stage persona that blends unwavering confidence with hilarious ignorance. After 35 years of late-night stand-up sets, acting and writing for the stage and on TV, and headlining shows of all sizes, he remains a beloved, globe-trotting powerhouse in the contemporary comedy landscape. On The Mind Field, Arj Barker encourages the audience to reflect on questions insufficiently explored by science: What is consciousness? Is it stored in the brain or is there a bigger reality somewhere beyond our minds? "Having lost my best friend quite suddenly a few years ago, these questions took on more urgency, and this stand up that formed around that." says Arj. On the album he also explores equally important topics like meditation, masturbation, and travelling over an hour to eat mediocre pizza. Barker wraps up the album with a song about drinking too much coffee in Australia, which he brings to life with a harmonica, inspiring the audience to sing along. MORE ABOUT ARJ BARKER: Acclaimed stand-up comedian and actor Arj Barker's early career took shape in San Francisco during the early 90s, where he hosted a regular open-mic night at Café Nuvo. His breakthrough arrived in 1997 when he won the prestigious Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He became a frequent fixture on late-night TV, making multiple stand-up appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show, and The Late Show with David Letterman. He has hosted many Comedy Central Presents specials, co-written and starred in the Off-Broadway parody show The Marijuana-Logues in 2004 and joined the cast of the hit HBO sitcom Flight of the Conchords in 2007. For decades Barker has been a headline regular and record-breaking ticket seller at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Adelaide Fringe. Now living in Australia, Barker has achieved monumental status as an adopted superstar there. His widespread appeal across Oceania has been bolstered by regular appearances on major Australian television programs such as Thank God You're Here, Rove, and Spicks and Specks. He has released several top-selling comedy albums and live specials, including the ARIA award winning DVD Organic and co-wrote and starred in The Nut Farm in 2024. FOR EVEN MORE ABOUT ARJ BARKER... Jeremy Zakis and John Batchelor dissect the ongoing disciplinary troubles of the England cricket team. Fast bowler Brydon Carse was recently arrested outside an Irish pub in Derby after celebrating a win against Pakistan, with former captain Ben Stokes seen in the background. This incident highlights a deep-seated drinking culture that led to Stokes being replaced by Joe Root, who has adopted a strict, zero-tolerance approach by immediately dropping Carse. In contrast, while the Australian team enjoys drinking, they maintain a safer, more disciplined approach. (3)
Chris Plank takes over tonight's late-night timeslot and, after saluting the great Bernie Fratto, he jumps right into the start of College Football by recapping Week 0, UNC and Bill Belichick's first win, and the empty stadium at USC's first game. Chris also gets into the NFL preseason, from Deshaun Watson winning the quarterback position with the Cleveland Browns, Fernando Mendoza's performance with the Raiders, and looking forward to the regular season. Plus, he gets back into college football by discussing Lane Kiffin, he tries to figure out whether Bill Belichick should be getting all the hate that he gets now that he's a college football coach, and he plays a round of "The Worst of the Worst" where he shares 3 stories making the rounds in the non-professional sports world. Ever been out in New Olrleans and looking for something to eat after 9pm? The idea for this episode came from our good friends Garrett and Cheryl who frequently come to New Orleans and like to eat a bit later than normal. They were lamenting the fact that by the time they want to eat late at night, they don't know where to go. Marie suggested this might make a good topic for a podcat (I was already in bed!), and they wholeheartedly agreed. So, this one's for y'all Garrett and Cheryl, as well as those of you who find yourselves out and about past my bedtime!

Zazz is an wonderful actress, singer, and songwriter. She's performed in theater, concert and cabaret venues. She's appeared on Late Night with Stephen Colbert and in the HBO documentary Master Class with Bobby McFerrin, and she's toured with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Here's how she came to be a guest. I first came across Zazz when I interviewed Will Healy, a fabulous musician, about a year ago. One of the works that he gave me for the Songfest was a Zoom video by his group Shouthouse and it featured a terrific singer. I told him that I really liked the video, particularly the singer. And he told me that the singer was Zazz. And then some months later I interviewed the incredible rapper Dizzy SenZe on the show. She also performed with Shouthouse and she sent me the same video, the one with Zazz singing. I knew that I had to have her on the show and she introduced us. My featured song is my reimagined version of “The 'In' Crowd”. It's from the album PGS 7 by my band Project Grand Slam. Richard Epstein examines the suit by Disney and ABC against the FCC, claiming that threats to review their local television station licenses constitute unconstitutional retaliation for their political late-night and morning show commentary. Epstein agrees ABC's case is strong, arguing that FCC Chair Brendan Carr is abusing regulatory power by treating public airwave licensing as a private property right to suppress critics. Additionally, Epstein asserts that Trump Media's paid service offering fast-access Truth Social posts is, by definition, insider trading, criticizing the president for using inside government knowledge for personal profit. When your criminal indictment and decision to prosecute against a political critic of Trump, Former FBI Dir. James Comey, comes down to (a) excerpts from his fictional novel; (b) his appearance on Late Night television; and (c) and email from a disgruntled cousin, it may be by very definition an admission of prosecutorial misconduct to justify the dismissal of the case.
