In this episode, I sit down with the brilliant Dr. Christian Gonzalez, a pioneer in emotional liberation and holistic health. We dive deep into how repressed emotions, like anger and fear, affect our physical bodies, specifically the gut and reproductive health. Together, we explore the bridge between traditional and emotional healing, why dancing is essential for emotional release, and how we can all learn to connect with our bodies for long-term transformation. What you'll get out of this episode… Repressed emotions, such as anger and fear, often manifest physically in the gut Traditional medicine needs to embrace the unseen aspects of emotional health for holistic healing. Dancing and movement are vital forms of therapy for releasing trapped energy in the body. The Emotional Liberation Method offers tools to heal generational trauma and repressed emotions for anyone. Key Question: What Is A Wilderness Season? A season of life where things are: Difficult Confusing Disorienting Uphill Out of the ordinary Wilderness Seasons are a MAJOR PART of the Christian Walk We anticipate them A WILDERNESS SEASON IS WHERE WE LEARN WHO GOD IS, HOW HE LOVES US, AND HOW WE SHOULD INTERACT WITH HIM 1 Peter 1:6-7 6 You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials 7 so that the proven character of your faith—more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. This series is about MAKING THE MOST out of these seasons Don't waste pain Learn what God is teaching We will be looking at the TRUE story of the EXODUS The freeing of the people of God (Israel) from captivity in Egypt One of the most powerful stories in human history The story up to this point: Joseph 400 years in Egypt Exodus 1:13-14 13 They worked the Israelites ruthlessly 14 and made their lives bitter with difficult labor in brick and mortar and in all kinds of fieldwork. They ruthlessly imposed all this work on them. The Exodus story is also Moses' story Placed into a basket on the Nile Rescued by Pharaoh's daughter Raised in Pharaoh's Household Kills an Egyptian taskmaster Flees to the “WILDERNESS” for 40 years Burning Bush God sends him BACK to Egypt The Great Rescue We have a people who are: Oppressed Broken Tired Under Pressure Stuck LOST Step 1 of God's Rescue is: 1: God Promises Freedom Exodus 6 2 Then God spoke to Moses, telling him, “I am the Lord. 3 I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, but I was not known to them by my name ‘the Lord.' 4 I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land they lived in as aliens. 5 Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are forcing to work as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant. 6 “Therefore tell the Israelites: I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from the forced labor of the Egyptians and rescue you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and great acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from the forced labor of the Egyptians. 8 I will bring you to the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.” 9 Moses told this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their broken spirit and hard labor. Israel's freedom is found in God (Yahweh) ALONE God is REINTRODUCING himself to his people He reminds them of His promise to their ancestors But the people DO NOT believe They are so broken So LOST How will God free them from the most powerful kingdom in the known world? Step 2 of God's Rescue is: 2: God Confronts Egypt Exodus 7 1 The Lord answered Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. 2 You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put my hand into Egypt and bring the military divisions of my people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the Israelites from among them.” Egypt was the SUPERPOWER of its day Superpowers think they are untouchable They can do WHATEVER THEY WANT to WHOMEVER THEY WANT God confronts the “gods” of Egypt through the plagues Examples: Turn Nile River to blood – Hapi, the bull god, god of the Nile; Isis, goddess of the Nile; Khnum, ram god, guardian of the Nile Death of livestock – Hathor, goddess with a cow head; Apis, the bull god, symbol of fertility Darkness – Ra, the sun god; Horus, a sun god; Nut, a sky goddess; Hathor, a sky goddess The “gods” of the Egyptians were POWERLESS against the God of Israel At first, they tried to COPY God's power, but they could not and were powerless to stop it Step 3 of God's Rescue is: 3: Israel Chooses to walk out free Exodus 12 33 Now the Egyptians pressured the people in order to send them quickly out of the country, for they said, “We're all going to die!” 34 So the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls wrapped up in their clothes on their shoulders. 35 The Israelites acted on Moses's word and asked the Egyptians for silver and gold items and for clothing. 36 And the Lord gave the people such favor with the Egyptians that they gave them what they requested. In this way they plundered the Egyptians. God had MADE A WAY Israel still had to choose to LEAVE All they had known All the gods they had known Application: WHAT DOES THIS STORY MEAN FOR US? 1: God Promises Freedom – We Need Freedom Like how Egypt made slaves out of Israel – Sin makes slaves out of us. Romans 6:16 16 Don't you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey—either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness? Sin… Oppresses us Harms us Kills us The “WILDERNESS OF HUMANITY” is because of sin Some of you are LOST IN THE WILDERNESS because of your sin Your choices Way of thinking Lifestyles Beliefs There are HOLDING YOU CAPTIVE Every wilderness season is NOT because of some hidden sin, but many times it is… Father, please reveal to me any hidden sin, thought pattern or way of living that is not in alignment with your ways 2: God Confronted Egypt – God Confronts lies and breaks strongholds John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus came to show us the way through the TRUTH of His life Sin is based on lies… It says… I know what's best for me… This isn't hurting anyone… No one will ever know… Did God really say? In order to free us, God must directly challenge the idols, false assumptions, and lies—whether they originate from within ourselves or from our adversary What does this look like for us? Reading and understanding the Bible (Learning Truth) Sermons and Bible study with others (Hearing Truth) Relationships that can speak TRUTH into your life (Hard Truths) Holy Spirit Conviction 3: Israel Chose to walk out Free – We must choose to walk in God's Freedom Galatians 5:1 For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and don't submit again to a yoke of slavery. Staying in Egypt meant staying a slave — Staying in our sin means staying its slave When God frees us, we must CHOOSE to walk in that freedom Don't return Don't stay put MOVE! The reason you may be in the wilderness is for God to DEMONSTRATE his POWER and TRUTH to you Can't see it when things are good Our God is a God RESCUES HIS PEOPLE Then and NOW Don't be a slave to LESSER THINGS The START of making it through the wilderness is BREAKING THE HOLD of SIN, LIES, and STRONGHOLDS It is only the POWER, TRUTH, and FREEDOM of God that can give us hope and purpose for our lives and our world

This episode is the second in our three-part Summer Pediatrician Series with Dr. Stephanie Grice. In this episode, Allison and Dr. Grice are discussing the growth charts pediatricians use to track a child's growth. The way a child “scores” on the growth chart can often cause anxiety for parents. Dr. Grice addresses this concern and explains why your child's placement on the growth chart isn't nearly as important as their overall growth trajectory. She also shares how the chart can help providers assess if a child is maintaining a healthy weight for their height and when it's appropriate to stop night feedings with infants. Regret – a feeling of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done.Eventually, all of us will die.In those final moments, we will have an opportunity to reflect on life.So many men will one day be on that death bed thinking “what if?”What if I had paid more attention to my kids? What if I had been a better husband? What if I had taken that chance to start a business? What if I had taken that hunting trip to Alaska I'd always dreamed of?A man filled with “what ifs” is one filled with regret. We have one shot at life, so missed opportunities can very well haunt us all the way to the grave. We must focus on a life with no regrets, which is why we need to start living today, in the present. In this episode of Untaming Masculinity, Dan and Brad discuss living a life free of regrets. They take about some of the steps they've taken to stop living for the future and start to focus on what matters in the here and now.In a wide-ranging conversation, they begin to dive into what regrets they've had, what they are doing to ensure they don't have regrets moving forward, and how men can simply live in the present, focused on what matters. It starts with a mindset shift, but the rest is up to you to execute. Making The Most of Our Memory - Dr. Barry Gordon The Not Old Better Show, Smithsonian Associates Art of Living Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show. I'm Paul Vogelzang, and as part of our Smithsonian Associates healthcare innovation interview series, we have an excellent interview with Dr. Barry Gordon, founder of the Memory Clinic at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Gordon will be presenting at the Smithsonian Associates program, June 22, and the title of his presentation is Making The Most of Your Memory. More details are available on our website. Are you worried about your memory or someone else's? Do you want to understand more about how your memory works? How you might help it work better, and stave off declines? Dr. Barry Gordon, a nationally recognized expert on memory and memory disorders, explains how each of us has many different kinds of memories, our own individual patterns of strengths and weakness, and how we might better appreciate what these patterns are. Dr. Barry Gordon tells us what memory and mental skills are likely to get worse with aging, which are incorrectly blamed on aging, and which may actually improve as we get older. Dr. Gordon describes useful memory and mental skills we should try harder to keep sharp, and Dr. Gordon suggests interventions and lifestyle changes that are most likely to help us to improve our ability to pay attention, to think, and to remember at any age. Please join me in welcoming to The Not Old Better Show, via internet phone, Smithsonian Associate, Dr. Barry Gordon. My thanks to Dr. Barry Gordon, and the team at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Hopefully, today's show will give you a sense of ideas to keep in mind, and to memorize, about your memory, memory lapses, and how to improve. My thanks to the Smithsonian team for all they do to support the show. My thanks to you, my wonderful Not Old Better Show audience…be safe, and remember let's Talk About Better. The Not Old Better Show. Until next time, thanks, everybody. CBSSports.com fantasy sports analyst Chris Towers joins the show to dig deep into an album I first heard him talk about with great enthusiasm nearly six years ago. The album is Carly Rae Jepsen's critically-acclaimed but commercially disappointing E*MO*TION.During the podcast, Chris made reference to the Switched on Pop podcast. You can listen to that at https://switchedonpop.com/.Chris also referred to an essay written by Hanif Abdurraqib about the experience of seeing Carly Rae Jepsen live. It's entitled "Carly Rae Jepsen's Public Displays of Affection", and you can find it here: http://www.mtv.com/news/2858019/carly-rae-jepsen-live-public-display-of-affection/.We talked about Quarterflash and The Cardigans as one-hit wonders, but they did in fact have other hits. This discussion reminded me of a great Cardigans song, My Favorite Game. You can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Wwbl8F-2s.Also, I erroneously stated that Quarterflash's Harden My Heart was released in 1980, but it was actually in 1981. 1:12 Chris joins the show2:27 Chris discusses his new/old role with CBSSports.com2:46 Fantasy sports player rankings are like album rankings5:38 How did Chris develop his eclectic taste in music?9:53 How did Chris get into Carly Rae Jepsen's music?13:57 It's not always bad if music is derivative15:59 Chris' favorite tracks on E*MO*TION18:45 Why is this one of Chris' favorite albums to listen to?20:50 Al expected to be underwhelmed by E*MO*TION23:45 Al's first impressions25:04 Carly Rae Jepsen is a prolific songwriter26:54 Does it matter if music is targeted for teens or adults? On this episode of The DiscipleMakers Podcast, we had a conversation with Bonnie Dripps about the topic of Faithful Enduring Long-Term Suffering. Everything Bonnie shared was deeply challenging for us as we talked with her. She has suffered through many things in her life, but what we hope stands out as you listen, is her steadfast faith and hope in the Lord through it all. We were also super encouraged by her commitment to making disciples of Jesus even in the midst of significant trials and suffering. So we hope you enjoy our conversation with Bonnie and are similarly challenged and encouraged by what she shared with us.--- Next week we'll be discussing: Making The Most of Our Time At HomeKeep an eye out on Instagram and Facebook for our Q&A story posts throughout the week to join in on our conversations. This Sunday (04/19/2020) my guest was Louis Boria—AKA Brooklyn Boy Knits. Louis is a self-taught fiber artist who has been in the industry for 12 years. In 2017, Louis went viral after being photographed on a NYC subway by actress/singer, Frenchie Davis. With his newfound fame, Louis decided to use his social media platform to do something positive and so began working with local New York public schools, teaching children to knit. He has worked closely with with campaigns such as Hat Not Hate, Cancer Awareness Programs at New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital and with LGBTQIA young adults by promoting knitting as a therapeutic outlet. As well as working in the community, Louis is a knitwear Designer of both custom pieces and knitting patterns that range in style from streetwear design to runway couture. In April 2019 Louis did his first Tedx Talk, "Making The Most of Your Moment". Later that year, he became one of the founding members of Soho Publishing's Diversity Advisory Council which was set up to address the lack of diversity and inclusion in the fiber arts industry. He has also taught at STITCHES and spoke as part of a diversity panel at STITCHES Midwest 2019. Louis believes in building up our community one stitch at a time. Louis is currently recovering from the Coronavirus… and I'm so pleased he could join on the show so you could hear from this remarkable and creative individual.
