The Disch-DeClouet Social Service Center is pleased to announce that the Center will RE-OPEN on Tuesday, May 26 at 830AM. Going forward the Center will be open on Monday - Tuesday and Wednesday in the morning only. The 1st 20 clients in line when the doors are opened will be eligible to receive services. Only one person will be allowed in the building per client. Please do not bring children with you to the Center. Make prior arrangements. All Clients are strongly encouraged to wear a mask and to exercise proper Social Distancing. The Clothing Dept will remain closed at this time. Until the Center is able to replenish its Food Bank there will be no distribution of food. The Social Service Center has been serving the poor and needy of Iberia Parish for 44 years. The Center is staffed by 40+ volunteers.

Poshmark claims to be the number one fashion buying and selling platform, but is their heavy lifting benefitting its competitors?First, here are some retail headlines.Verishop Rolling Out Free One-Day ShippingNew e-commerce platform, Verishop, is keeping stride with major retailers by rolling out free, one-day shipping. The company’s new shipping offer doesn’t require a membership fee or minimum purchase amount. After announcing the news, Verishop’s CEO said he believes fast and free shipping is critical in e-commerce strategies as consumer demand grows. He didn’t offer any specifics on how the three month old company logistically managed to roll out free one-day shipping nationwide, but did say Verishop partnered with both FedEx and UPS.Whole Foods Cutting Health Benefits for Some Part-Time EmployeesStarting January 1st, Amazon-owned Whole Foods will be cutting health benefits for up to 1,900 of its part-time workers. Previously, employees only had to work 20 hours a week to be eligible for health care benefits, but Whole Foods announced employees will now have to work 30 hours to be eligible. A company spokesperson said the change is part of better meeting the needs of the business and creating a more efficient scheduling model. The company also announced that current Team Members who would be affected were being provided with resources to find alternative coverage, or letting them explore health care eligible positions starting at 30 hours a week.Madewell Filing for an IPOJ. Crew’s sub-brand, Madewell, is filing for an IPO. According to the document, Madewell will split from J. Crew as part of its IPO. Details like price range and number of shares have yet to be determined, but according to a press release, proceeds from the IPO will be used to quote, “pay off indebtedness and for general corporate purposes,” end quote. Poshmark’s Strategies May Benefit Competitors ThredUp and TheRealRealCould Poshmark be helping competing resale companies like The RealReal and ThredUp? The resale industry is exploding, with current projections of the secondhand fashion market hitting $51 billion by 2023 according to ThredUp. The resale segment is also expected to account for 45 percent of secondhand apparel market sales at $23 billion, growing from 25 percent of the total $28 billion in 2019. The current leaders in the industry are TheRealReal, ThredUP, and Poshmark.Industry experts have agreed that one of the most critical components of attracting new customers to the resale market is building awareness of the potential of resale platforms like The RealReal, ThredUp, and Poshmark. ThredUp has recently made a move into brick-and-mortar by partnering with Macy’s and J.C. Penneys, gaining credibility with customers who first experience the company at those locations. TheRealReal also operates their own store locations to make potential customers less wary of purchasing their high-end, luxury items. All three companies have also turned to television to create brand awareness. Poshmark is the leader, running 14,872 spots in the last thirty days, significantly more than ThredUp and The RealReal who have run under 3,000 spots. Though Poshmark claims to be the number one fashion buying and selling platform, boasting 50 million sellers, the company’s heavy lifting could actually be beneficial to ThredUp and The RealReal. Poshmark runs on a peer-to-peer business model, where users do more work on the back end to make a sale. After a few times of putting in the work, users who want to stay in the resale game may turn to frictionless and more convenient alternatives like The RealReal and ThredUp. So while Poshmark may open the door for customers to try online resale, ThredUp and TheRealReal have more potential to keep them around for the long haul. Arrival is scheduled for Friday 15th in the evening" WITRICITY ACQUIRES QUALCOMM HALO "WiTricity, a company that specializes in contactless EV charging, has acquired Qualcomm's rival wireless charging tech. The two are keeping quiet about the financial details, though they did reveal that Qualcomm will become a minority WiTricity shareholder as a result of the transaction. " reports Engadget for our first story today: "Ultimately, it gives WiTricity access to more than 1,500 new wireless battery charging patents and patent applications, which could see its contactless charging system become the EV industry standard. An MIT spinoff, WiTricity's system relies on a floor pad that radiates a magnetic field to refuel parked EVs. In 2016, the company announced a prototype in partnership with GM that could be deployed in public parking spaces and garages, offering power at both 7.7 kW and 11 kW. Qualcomm bought its "Halo" tech from the University of Auckland in 2011 as part of a "multi-million dollar" deal. It currently forms the backbone of its dynamic electric vehicle charging (DEVC) test track." In the comments Peterf says: "This is so dumb. You can accept the efficiency loss with a smartphone since it's such little energy but to charge a car with the reduced efficiency causes a lot of energy waste." https://www.engadget.com/2019/02/11/witricity-qualcomm-halo-ev-wireless-charging/ SPY SHOTS #1 - VW I.D. NEO / I.D. ONE We're a bit over run today with spy shots of future EV's in cold weather testing. And that's a nice problem to have because when cars are at that stage, they're not too far away from being outside your house. Volkswagen I.D. Neo - AutoExpress say: "Volkswagen will launch the I.D. (codenamed ‘Neo’ within the company) with a range of three battery capacities, and is aiming to significantly undercut the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Kia e-Niro with a starting price of just £22,500. As revealed by Auto Express towards the end of 2017, the first I.D. will be a five-door hatchback which, at 4.25 metres long, is almost identical in size to a Golf. The potential for extra cabin space can be seen in the proportions of the car in our spy images. The bonnet is much shorter than that of a Golf - it only needs to house an air conditioning system - allowing for much more space inside for occupants. Boot space is also expected to measure up closely to a Golf, so expect around 380 litres with all five seats in place." It starts at 205 miles at 48kWh for the slow one, up to 341 miles 62kWh for the fast one. They need to do 100,000 of these next year, Zwickau is aiming for 1,500 cars a day by 2021, and there will be fewer options for the spec to drive efficiency. Renault is developing an all-new plug-in hybrid system making use of a Nissan-developed 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive system. The electric motor will occupy a dual role, both providing with petrol engine with additional torque and power, plus offering up to 30 miles of all-electric running." It will come with a 9.8kWh battery. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/renault/captur/105085/new-2020-renault-captur-crossover-spied-out-in-the-cold SPY SHOTS #3 - BMW iNEXT The winter test centre of the BMW Group in Arjeplog, Sweden is the setting for the current complete vehicle tests. The test drives with the camouflaged BMW iNEXT are being conducted on snow-covered roads and ice-covered lakes, where low temperatures and minimal road friction dominate everyday testing. The cold poses a challenge, above all, for the electric motor, the high-voltage battery and the cooling system of the BMW iNEXT. The testing engineers also attach particular importance to the eDrive energy management system. They analyse the way in which the extreme sub-zero temperatures affect how the energy storage system recharges, how electricity is transferred to the electric motor, how the electrical system is supplied with energy and how the heating and air condition systems respond. The series production version of the BMW iNEXT will be manufactured in the BMW Plant in Dingolfing from 2021. NISSAN LEAF E-PLUS ORDERS POURING IN: EUROPE "Nissan has received more than 3,000 pre-orders for 3.ZERO Limited Edition of the latest LEAF e+ in Europe, since its unveiling about a month ago. That’s almost two-thirds of the planned run of 5,000 units of the exclusively well-equipped trim version." says Mark Kane over at InsideEVs.com: "Nearly half of those pre-orders come from… Norway, where the Nissan LEAF was the best-selling car of any kind or type in 2018." https://insideevs.com/nissan-leaf-e-plus-order-europe/ TESLA READIES FOR MODEL 3 CUSTOMER DELIVERIES IN CHINA AS CARGO SHIP ARRIVES AT PORT "Preparations to deliver the first batch of Tesla Model 3 vehicles to customers in China are underway with the recent arrival of cargo ship Glovis Symphony at the Port of Tianjin." according to Teslarati: " The carrier entered the port on Monday around 7 am local time after a 19-day journey from the San Francisco Bay Area where Tesla vehicles make their way from the company’s factory in Fremont to the loading dock. The Chevy Bolt EV again led the electric offerings, clocking in at 27,918 units delivered worldwide. However, The Baojun E100/E200 also impressed with 25,888 sales in China. The Chevy Volt follows close behind with 25,298 units sold globally. Baojun (jointly owned by General Motors (GM) and SAIC Motor) recently expanded availability of their tiny two seat EV. Matt and Steve are talking about this week in sports updates, including: Riverhounds have their first home playoff game at Highmark Stadium with the Bethlehem Steel. The Riverhounds finished the season in third in Group A. The PGA Tour is on their Asian swing, so the matches are live over night and replay during the day. There are still some big names on the PGA Tour, but not many. Penguins mark a win in Toronto with Murray in net. 71 had two goals, and Letang also came up with one. Letang's goal marked the 100th of his career. It's early, but the Penguins are 3-1-2 with 8 points - placing them a solid 4th in the division. Boston/Astros was a great series, and the Sox head to the World Series. David Price had his first career playoff win in 12 tries. Alex Cora is the first Latino and first first-year manager to go to the World Series. The Dodgers are up 3-2 as they head back to Miller Park. In NCAA news, Pitt had a hell of a game with Notre Dame. Pitt has a buy week and will host Duke when they return. Notre Dame had a tough game with Pitt and is also in a buy week. Notre Dame will play the Navy in San Diego. PSU had a helluva loss to State as Indiana comes to Happy Valley. WVU saw a bad loss Saturday and plays Baylor. The NBA season started. Steelers and Bengals was a back-and-forth game. The TE got in the game Steelers/Bengals game. Ben hit 10 different receivers. The defense didn't look as good as they did over the Falcons but they weren't horrible. Bell should be back Monday/Tuesday. Burfict is who he is. Just because they are your clients now, does not mean they will be your clients later! [00:00:14] Hello and welcome to The Travelling Introvet. Today we are going to talk about follow up and the reason this has come up is because I did a post on LinkedIn which is very popular but also two or three things have happened recently that make me think that people just might not be aware of the implications of follow up. [00:00:33][18.8] [00:00:33] So one thing I learnt really early on when I was a freelancer was the fact that I needed to follow up. I got this contract which involved me doing a lot of HR work we were working on this big project that involved sort of telling people all the different types of interviews that can be had different interview biases and how to get through them and so there was this huge checklist of things to do and then multiple people working on the project. There wasn't a project management software used but that's another matter. So I didn't really get updates or there was no communication from the client that I was working with. So at that time I did as I just did what we talked about and then I stopped and I didn't say anything. I was waiting to be told what to do next. And the thing was this was because I still had an employee mentality we get told what to do all the time. But as a freelancer I should have been more proactive. [00:01:31][58.3] [00:01:32] I then met this person this client in person because I happened to be in Australia and we met and we talked and all was good and I went back and I did some more work and then stopped again and then out of the blue. As far as I was concerned they stopped my contract and cut it off said it was good work with me. Thanks very much but my lack of communication was a real problem. This was a shock to me because I was new at freelancing and didn't realise that and I'd had some freelance clients who were micromanagers. I learnt from then on to overcommunicate and over follow up. [00:02:06][34.0] [00:02:07] Now on the flipside now that I hire people what I've had with three different companies recently is a distinct lack of follow up. I've definitely had someone go "well I didn't back from you". From your email and it's been two weeks and so I didn't know what you wanted to do I didn't message you. My response was well if you didn't hear back from me and you want to know what was going on you should messaged me. And the other thing was where's I've had another one who was very much. She did some work Monday Tuesday. Didn't hear from me until Monday. The next thing you know she's like hey just wanted to let you know this if you had anything for me you know you could do this I could do that let me know how I can help. She's very proactive and so I gave her more work as she asks for it. Follow up. And that's just sort of one kind of type of follow up. [00:02:52][44.7] [00:02:52] There are many different types of follow up that I could talk about but as a freelancer from a freelancers point of view if you do not follow up with your clients and even your ex client you are leaving money on the table and you're leaving it open for someone else to come in and do your work and maybe better cheaper faster or the same but with just better communication. [00:03:20][28.3] [00:03:23] I had another vendor that I was trying out actually. And so this was the test phase and they did one task for me. That was two weeks ago and I haven't heard from them, nothing. Not a peep and so from my point of view. Maybe you don't want me to pay you. Maybe I did something I don't know . You want me to pay you right you want me to give me money for services but you are not asking for the money. This is a problem. [00:03:52][28.8] [00:03:53] Another vendor didn't have a backup plan that I think will be for another episode. So yes please follow up. You might think you're being annoying you might think they've got a lot of emails but you'd be surprised how many more sort of slip through the cracks or don't open it. Want to respond something happens and they end it just like drops down the list of e-mails they never see and so sending a reminder is helpful until they tell you to stop sending reminders if they don't do that. Keep sending reminders. Hi I just wanted to check in on this. Hi I just wanted to check in on that. Oh. I saw this article and thought of you just because they are already a client doesn't mean you need to stop courting them. [00:04:31][38.0] [00:04:32] You need to continue courting your clients even when you have them already because you don't know what's going on you know they're looking at other things you don't notice bright shiny object that they're also looking at. Welcome to the 1% Better Podcast. This is Season Two. Episode One. It’s great to be back and have you here with me!I’ve done my best to stick to a 25-minute Pomodoro inspired episode and I’ve tried to squeeze as much as I could into this timeframe. Last episode we heard from the students that participated in our Creative Coders Camp this past summer. In this episode , we hear from a few of the teachers that participated in the event that ran concurrently, Creating Coders Camp. We learn about what brought them to this new camp. What they were able to get out of the camp and what goals they have for themselves as they started the new school year. Many talked about how engaged the students were with the coding tools. Even though it was a week during the summer (with beautiful weather I might add), the students participating within the Creative Coders Camp were very engaged within the coding tools and learning SO much more than just coding! Others also loved the space. Shoutout to Amber Bell-Christian at UMSL’s EdCollabitat for allowing us into your amazing space! Both Creative Coders & Creating Coders had access to many different coding resources. All of them are listed below. The students explored on Monday & Tuesday. Teachers came to observe their exploration on Wednesday and then got to explore on their own Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, the students taught our teacher participants how to use a particular tool. We closed the camp with some time to create an action plan to think how they want to integrate coding into the classroom. This Camp was an amazing event! The students were AMAZING, the teachers were great and the space was wonderful! I am excited to begin planning for next year’s camp! Continuing my thoughts from yesterday… On today’s episode Russell talks about a couple in the Inner Circle group that has implemented the things they learned at the last Inner Circle meetings and how building a culture has worked for them. He also apologizes to people he may have offended in the last podcast. So listen below to hear how you can follow Brandon and Kaylin’s example to build your own cult-ture. ---Transcript--- Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson and I am heading home from the first days of the inner circle, which were just amazing. I’m a little tired, a little worn out. I have two more days the next two days. I gotta get some good rest, start over the party tomorrow with the next group of our awesome members. I’m looking forward to it. But I just wanted to do a couple of things. First off, I know before I headed in Monday, I talked a little bit about the fact that I want people taking the stuff and running with it. And I had a couple of people who messaged me afterwards. I wasn’t speaking to anyone specifically, but as a whole. I want everyone believing more in themselves, and that’s the message I was trying to get out. I was probably ranting a little bit, I don’t remember. I don’t anyone to think that I was mad at them specifically, but I do want people to believe that you’re good enough now. You’re ready, you can do it. Hopefully that was the message you got, because that was the message that was intended. It’s funny, it’s interesting, in our coaching program that’s a commonality. I do a lot of coaching, but the majority of it is really people asking for permission. “Hey, I think I should do this, what do you think?” And I’m like, “It’s awesome.” Or maybe not. That’s what a lot of people need and I get that. I’m in the same spot. I’ve got my coaches in different aspects of my life, but I would say for most people, give yourself permission. You can do it, you’re good enough. Use that as fuel on that side, and hopefully there was nothing negative that you guys got from that. That was not my intention. Sometimes I push record, and I’m in a weird mood. But there you go. So a couple of cool things from Inner Circle today. One thing that’s interesting that I’ve found, this is kind of funny. You know how when you learn from somebody and you see them from afar for a long time and their name is their name. For example, Mark Joyner is my first mentor, so I always called him Mark Joyner, Mark Joyner, Mark Joyner. So the other week Mark was out here working, in fact I’ll say it right now, I felt awkward. When Mark Joyner was here, it was funny because Brandon who was doing video stuff, he kept calling him Mark. I was like, “His name isn’t Mark, its Mark Joyner. Why are you disrespecting him like that?” And that’s how I felt. And I realized that. I didn’t think much about it until I realized recently almost all of the Inner Circle people, when they say something to me it’s never “Hey Russell” it’s always, “Hey Russell Brunson” and I think it’s interesting and I totally get it. For me Mark Joyner was always my mentor. Dan Kennedy, Tony Robbins, I never called him Tony. That felt awkward calling him that. It’s kind of a fun thing I’ve noticed. Tons of people here keep calling me Russell Brunson. It’s funny because in your normal life, you never call somebody by their full name, but in those situations…..it’s so fascinating to me. I thought it was kind of cool.I definitely look at that as a term of endearment, which is kind of cool. So I’ll leave that there. And then the last cool thing I’ll share, and then I’m almost home which is kind of nice because I need some sleep. With our Inner Circle group, we have a Monday/Tuesday group and then a Wednesday/Thursday and then on Tuesday night we have a big dinner with both groups. So we just did that tonight, just got out of it. And it was cool because Brandon and Kaylin, at the last Inner Circle meeting one of our big things, and if you follow along with the podcast, I’m sure you heard it. It was all about building your cult-ture and what you have to do to build that up and grow. And it was really, really cool, they are some of the fastest implementers that I have ever met, hands down, ever. So they basically went home. On the flight home they were like, “Okay we’re building a culture.” And they changed their branding, their name, their Facebook, everything. They re-did in the last four months, and they came back tonight and showed, “This is everything we’ve done based o three months ago, to build our culture out.” And it was amazing. If you’re in the Inner Circle, we Facebook live it in the Inner Circle Facebook Group. So you guys who are Inner Circle members can go watch that. And if you’re not, it’s time to join the Inner Circle, what are you waiting for? Oh, maybe the fact that’s it’s sold out. Maybe you can beg your way in if you’re not in it yet. It was amazing, thing after thing. I was taking notes as fast as I could and it was amazing. The coolest thing is the result of them focusing on building a culture and all these kind of things. Its crazy, there churn decreased by ten percent, which is hundreds of thousands of dollars. They now do these, kind of like our Funnel Swag t-shirts we do. They do these Lady Boss Swag launches where they’re like, “We have this new t-shirt designed. There’s a hundred in these sizes. Go. First come, first serve. When they’re gone, they’re gone.” They sold $25,000 in t-shirts in 24 hours and then closed it out. They’re doing those kinds of things and they’re using it to sell programs and to upsell things to upgrade and to get people to actually fulfill and get things done and lose weight and there’s all this built in accountability. It was amazing to see what they created just from this thought that we had about building your culture. So for any of you guys who heard me talking about that over the last few months, it’s time to start running and doing like they do. Because man, 3 ½, 4 months later, to see what’s happened because of that and because of their action based on that has been amazing. So there you go guys. I’m doing it, if you want watch Brandon and Kaylin, they’re doing it. A bunch of other people in our group, they’re doing it. Time for you to do it as well. So there you go. I’m at home you guys. Appreciate you all for an amazing night. Know that I care about you guys and that if I ever say anything mean, it’s not to be mean but it’s to hopefully get you guys to take action. Colin Pugh had a dangerous case of hyponatremia that could have resulted in death. Hydration expert Andy Blow joins us to review his case. In Colin's words, here is what happened: "On Aug 14th I did my first Half Ironman (Stealhead - Benton Harbor MI). I ran a pretty decent race and finished in a time of 5hrs 47 mins. After the race I was about a 3 hour drive from home in Milwaukee WI. I was over there on my own as my girlfriend was working that weekend. Based on the fact I couldn’t stand up without cramping I made the decision to hold up in a hotel for the night and make my way home on the Monday morning. I got to the hotel grabbed a shower and then started to become obsessed with the fact that I hadn't taken a pee all day and started taking on water (a lot of water!). This was quiet the mistake…….. I then remember only a few things. I remember walking across to the gas station to buy more water and being completely out of it in my mind like kind of drunk feeling. Then I went to bed and woke up at 11pm and proceeded to throw up all a lot of that water back up which wasn’t pretty. I woke up the next day feeling really rough and text my girlfriend to say I’m not driving until I get kicked out of the hotel at Noon. Then the next thing I know is I’m at the breakfast table grabbing breakfast and all packed up and I had no idea how I got there. Then the last thing I remember on Monday morning was getting on to the highway at my intersection in Michigan and then the next recollection I had was waking up in the ICU on Wednesday morning in Chicago…………. What happened? It turns out that I must have had the sub conscious thought to get to the Emergency Room. Because when I crashed my car into a truck I was only 6 blocks away from the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center in downtown Chicago. But I had managed to drive over 70 miles without remembering a thing and then passed out behind the wheel. When the cops came up on my accident they said they found me having a seizure in the driver’s seat and then proceeded to smash me out of my car and get medical help. Then I got to the ER by ambulance and my girlfriend was calling my phone. The ER doctor answers the phone and tells her what they think is going on. My girlfriend is actually a doctor herself, she completely gets what the ER doc tells her and starts freaking out and gets in the car and starts driving the 1-2 hrs down to Chicago to be with me. So what was going on? Typical human blood has 140-145 mol/liter of Sodium in it. Anything less than 120 mol/liter is classed as serve. On my first blood work when I got to the ER it was at 113 mol/liter and that’s why I kept having seizures. I had Hyponatremia where you drink too much tap water and in essence dilute your blood. I was then admitted to the ICU early Monday and over Monday/Tuesday given fluids and monitored closely until I woke up on Wednesday morning very confused. While I was out I wasn’t being very cooperative it seems……..I had to be tied down feet and hands to stop me from beating all the people up which wasn’t great for my girlfriend to see. After waking up I had no idea what year it was, what had happened, where I had raced, who the president was.......nothing…….and that was very worrying. But I quickly started to get it all back come Thursday and Friday. I was then discharged from the ICU to home on Friday. Quiet the experience that I need to get follow up appointments to completely figure out if I had a Kidney issue or if I just put myself in trouble by drinking so much water instead of something with electrolytes in it. In the meantime I’m back to work and doing fine, getting my car fixed up and taking it easy for a little while and deferring a few races that I was booked into for the rest of the season."
