Together, we revisit the Outfit's historic ties to the Teamsters, the Strawman trials, and the legendary names like Anthony Accardo who shaped Chicago's mob identity. And, you know, guys, I have, I was talking with a fan not too long ago from Chicago, I think on the, maybe the Facebook group, and he said, you need to do more Chicago stories. And I had to admit, I hadn't done that many Chicago stories. I got caught up in New York a lot, It seemed like, and anyhow, we're back to Chicago and another guy's mentioned to another guy and we were talking and, and somebody said, I don't remember who, maybe that original fan said you need to get Chuck Goudie on there. He's been doing a lot of reporting on the outfit over the years. And I didn't really know who Chuck was. So I started searching. He did a recent story about the death of the last spilotro brother, John spilotro. So I thought, man, this is, this is it. This is what I got to do. So welcome, Chuck Goudie from Chicago. Well, it's quite an introduction. Some might call it a eulogy, but thankfully that's not what he does. [1:02] Really? Now, I think I told you earlier, you know, last time I interviewed a Chicago newsman, it was John Bulldog Drummond. Bulldog Drummond, I tell you what, he was the dean of Chicago newsmen, television newsmen, when it came to reporting on the mob. There's no doubt about it.

The question of who represents the working class is probably the hottest debate in American politics. Is it Republicans? Democrats? Or socialists like Zohran Mamdani? Pundits can debate that question all they want, but the undeniable test is: Who do the unions believe stand for working people? For a century, unions were undeniably Democratic. And in 2021, Biden tried to carry on that tradition. He went as far as to say: “I intend to be the most pro-union president leading the most pro-union administration in American history.” Then in 2023, he became the first sitting president to walk a picket line, joining United Auto Workers in their strike against General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis. But as the Democratic Party went left, and then further left, many union members—who were reliable Democratic voters—broke the mold and voted for Trump—nearly half of union households, to be exact. Was it Trump's hatred of NAFTA? His promise to bring manufacturing back? His unbridled bravado? Or was it the left's preoccupation with boutique issues? The shift was palpable when Teamsters president Sean O'Brien spoke at the 2024 RNC despite being a lifelong Democrat. It felt like a new era. We've reported extensively on how the Democratic Party lost the working class. But now, six months into Trump's second term, are working-class Trump voters happy with their choice? And how has Trump been for labor in America? Sean O'Brien—the voice you heard at the RNC—is the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, representing 1.3 million union workers. It's one of the biggest unions in the country. As Sean puts it, “They represent airline pilots to zookeepers and everyone in between.” That “in between” includes truck drivers, warehouse workers, mechanics, baggage handlers, construction workers, and UPS drivers—UPS is their largest employer. Basically, Teamsters have organized workers in every occupation imaginable. And more than his role as Teamsters president, Sean himself is a fourth-generation union member, having joined the Local 25 at 18 as a heavy-equipment driver in Boston. Today on another brand new episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast we have a first in our history. We bring you the first ever, three part episode. Our guest today is Peter Rafelson, son of director Bob Rafelson. Admittedly, we sort of lied to you on because there really wasn't going to be a third episode. But after our chat with Peter on the first two episodes, we decided there was more to discuss and we bring you the result. It's a fun one too. On this episode, we discuss Peter's remembrances of his father's favorite LA restaurants – from Dan Tana's to The Cock and Bull, Hamburger Hamlet and a mob joint at the end of Sunset whose name is lost to the mists of time. Somehow this turns into a discussion about visiting the Playboy Mansion in elementary school, dressing in drag while dining for a very specific purpose and sneaking into a nude stage production at age nine. Clearly, the Wild Child we discussed in prior episodes still has stories to tell us that will delight and amaze you.
