This week on episode 25 we go beyond the world of film and bring to you a whole episode talking about the history of digital cameras.  In order to do that, we called upon a man who can speak to the earliest history of digital photography like no other, Steve Sasson. In 1975, at the age of only 25 while working for Kodak, Steve created the world's first digital camera.  A crude looking blue and metal box with exposed electronics inside, a lens from a Kodak XL movie camera, and a cassette recorder as it's data storage device, the camera worked, and set the world on a path that leads us to modern smartphones today. Not to be outdone, Steve is joined by Robert Shanebrook who we have spoken with before as a 35 year employee of Eastman Kodak, Robert worked in the same lab with Steve and shares with us his memories of that time at Kodak and how things progressed from there. Also, with us is Todd Gustavson, author and curator at the George Eastman Museum, Todd knows Kodak history like no one else, and has access to a whole collection of the earliest digital cameras. Finally, Daniel Koons is a Kodak collector and early digital camera enthusiast who has meticulously built the world's only replica of Steve's prototype digital camera.  Using high resolution images provided to him by Todd, Daniel was able to recreate the camera with an impressive level of precision and can speak to the inside workings of the camera second only to Steve. It wouldn't be an open source podcast without some callers, and this time we have returning guests, Mark Faulkner, Mark Peterson, and Jon Gilchrist who ask their own questions and share their own experiences. Every episode, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are decided entirely upon you, so if you'd like to join us next time, be sure to look out for our next show announcement for Episode 26, which will be recorded on Monday, May 16th! The Quarantine Players are a scrappy theater start-up that is in a position to break all the rules. We were told we can’t put out new work all the time. Yes, we can you just have to treat playwrights like they matter, make them part of the process, and value our input. We are your source for new plays from amazing playwrights. Each week we choose a new play to read for you. We are different because we involve the playwright in every step of the process. Most of our writers will attend all the rehearsals and provide feedback along the way. We don't just honor playwrights by waiting till their work goes into the Public domain so we don't have to pay them. We prefer our playwrights to still have their pulse. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/qplayers/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/qplayers/support

Growing up in Hollis, Queens in the early 80s around Hip-Hop Icons Run DMC and LL Cool J motivated Geechie Dan to begin collecting audio recordings of Hip-Hop parties and park jams that took place throughout the NYC Tri-State area. In 1983, he started emceeing. He also joined (and remians a member of) NY based Hip-Hop Organization ZULUNATION. In 1984, a rap confrontation with Hip-Hop Legend LL Cool J led them to a battle. Days later, he took his first loss in an MC battle. He joined Long Island based Hip-Hop Radio Crew Spectrum City WBAU college radio at Adelphia University in 1984 – consisting of Bomb Squad Producers, Hank and Keith Shocklee, Chucky D (now known as Chuck D from Hip Hop group Public Enemy), and MC DJ Flavor (AKA today as Flavor Flav), Bill Stephany (AKA Mr Bill), DOCTOR DRE from YO MTV RAPS, Son of Berserk, Dj Johnnie Juice, JVC Force, Townhouse 3, Nasty 4, Deadly 3, Mighty Choice 5 MCs, Original Concept. Dymanic Brothers from Freeport. Geechie Dan received a record deal contract from independent record label Public Records in 1986 for the song “Let's Dance” after being referred to the label by Hip-Hop Queens Park Jam legend MC Mikey D. However, he declined the opportunity due to the involvement with Jehovah Witnesses. His mother and the organization were adamant that he not pursue his dream of a career in rap music. In 1990, he won a rap contest that was put together by New Orleans based Black Cat Productions which resulted to winning a trophy and $500.00 and an opportunity to record a rap for a New Orleans R&B singing group and record at Paisley Park Studios, MN – the recording home for Pop Superstar Prince. In 2008, Geechie Dan wrote and published the book “The Kingdom Hall No More” in which he discusses his 16-year involvement in the Kingdom Hall and Jehovah Witnesses. His 1st season of “The Geechie Dan Hip-Hop Tape” show in 2015 on the Hilltop Radio format on blog talk radio with DJ Shawn. He started his 2nd season in 2016 on the FLOempire Radio in NYC in April 2016 with DJ Kool K Gee. His 3rd season started in 2017 on DSN Network in the Bronx with DJ Kid Flash. Season 4 began in 2018 on DSN Network in the Bronx and Linkage Radio 101.7 FM in NYC DJ Scratch Masta Jazzy G. It's not every day you get to go back to your old school and talk with your teachers. Today, we got that chance to speak to one of them. Doctor Dre was the only doctor I knew growing up besides Dr. Spock. Dre, along with Fab Five Freddy and Ed Lover, were instrumental in our early exposures to hip-hop. They helped educate and they definitely helped entertain us. If not for YO! MTV Raps, many of us wouldn't have even known these classic rap videos existed. There was no internet back then. Certainly nothing remotely close to Youtube. If you didn't catch Music Box, Pump It Up, Rap City or Yo!, chances are, you just missed out! While Fab Five Freddy took on the more serious role as the teacher who dropped knowledge all day, it was the fun-loving duo of Doctor Dre and Ed Lover that really captivated you. They had you laughing from the start of the class to the end of it. They left you wanting more. Doctor Dre knew how to kick dunn language, like on Knowledge Me, and he and Ed both knew how to have fun like Back Up Off Me. There has never been a team like Doctor Dre and Ed Lover and considering how the music industry is today, especially MTV, there never will be. Before mainstream TV really embraced hip-hop, before you had In Living Color, Martin, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air or New York Undercover, it was YO! MTV Raps that was pivotal in the hip-hop movement in mainstream America. On this episode, we pay homage to YO! with 2 ridiculously dope DJ 360 mixes. We also speak to the great Doctor Dre. We talk about his early days at Adelphi University with Chucky D and Flavor Flav. We talk Original Concept, Def Jam and some interesting stories about Rick Rubin. We cover touring with the Beasties, how Bill Cosby did a very Bill Cosby thing when on YO!. We find out Don Cornelius felt threatened by their success. We talk about RUN-DMC not giving Dre the proper credit all the way to dropping an album on Def Jam in ‘88 along with Slick Rick and Public Enemy. We talk a lot of P.E., even Dre's love/hate relationship with Flavor Flav. We cover a lot of ground here. From Who's The Man, to who was the man behind the selections on the the soundtrack. But - what would this interview be without the amazing history and stories of YO!? We take you to the final episode, where that infamous freestyle session goes down between Rakim, Chubb Rock, Erick Sermon, MC Serch, KRS-One, Redman, Method Man, Large Professor, Special Ed and Craig Mack. We learn who Doctor Dre felt had the best verse on that iconic episode. So much and more. Don't miss our YO! MTV Raps Tribute Show featuring Doctor Dre!

Tiny Mix Tapes | Chocolate Grinder Mixes

March 17 would have been Sean Price's 47th birthday had the MC aka Ruck lived past age 43. On February 8, 2019, P's longtime label Duck Down Music Inc. teamed with Coalmine Records and producer Small Professor for the rapper's second posthumous album, 86 Witness. Produced mostly before Price's untimely demise, the album got its title when Small Pro and executive producer Matt Diamond (no relation) realized that references to the year 1986 kept popping up in P's rhymes for the project. Sean Price was 14 in 1986. Hip-hop was about as young. Sean Price's lyrics have always had something of a cafeteria cipher feeling about them. Sometimes his words make little sense together at first ("Dikembe Mutumbo, Feliz Navidad"), perhaps a testament to their being pulled out of thin air, but the rhymes are rarely ever left unresolved, and a perfectly timed punchline can set any verse on fire ("You buy Echo to get us free like Amistad"). Those types of lines also abound 86 Witness, as do features, so the cipher vibes are even more present than usual. In celebration of the album's release, to which Sean's widow Bernadette Price gave her blessing, Tiny Mix Tapes reached out to Small Professor to compile a guest mix featuring only instrumentals from 1986. Included are a number of classic cuts such as "Peter Piper" and "Push It," as well as some more obscure selections like Anquette's "Throw the P" and Faze One's "Layin' Down a Beat." Stream Small Professor's 1986 Instro Flow below and cop 86 Witness on Bandcamp or direct from Duck Down. [00:00] Doug E. The Orb: A Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast

Past Tense, Part I. A growing gap between the haves and have-nots leads to a fractured society. In Star Trek's 2024, America has tucked away undesirables in Sanctuary Districts. Sisko explains that social problems had to reach a breaking point before the US began to address them. “Past Tense” was prophetic in its time, and it remains so today—just seven years from Gabriel Bell's famous stand. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing dive into the first part of this glimpse at the difficult road humanity had to travel to get from our present day to Gene Roddenberry's future. It's Only a Paper Moon. Events in Star Trek—even tragic ones—rarely have lasting consequences. Deep Space Nine changed that with arcs that took place during the Dominion War. In particular, in the final season, Nog's injuries in battle led to a deep exploration of the lasting impact of a single moment in time—and they did it with the usual DS9 mix of serious commentary and humor. In this episode of The Ready Room, we're joined by Zachary Fruhling and Matthew Rushing to discuss Nog's retreat to the holosuite, his struggle to come to terms with the physical and emotional damage of his experiences in “The Siege of AR-558,” and the counseling tag-team of Ezri Dax and Vic Fontaine who brought him back to reality. In our news segment, we discuss additional shooting (reported as reshoots by most media) for Star Trek Beyond, a special agreement between CBS and Paramount that dictated a six-month post-film waiting period for Star Trek's return to TV, and Rod Roddenberry joining the new series as Executive Producer. Naruto: Innocent Heart, Demonic Blood by Masatoshi Kusakabe. Original Concept by Masashi Kishimoto. Translated by Tomo Kimura and Janet Gilbert. Originally published in Japan by Shueisha. Published in US by Viz under their Shonen Jump Fiction imprint. Price: $9.99 12 years ago a nine-tailed fox demon attacked the Hidden Leaf Village, and many of its ninja were killed in the battle. Unable to outright defeat the monster, the Fourth Hokage instead sealed the demon within the navel of a newborn infant named Naruto. The entire village was sworn to secrecy about the matter. But how could the adults react with anything but hatred to the growing Naruto, who held within him the beast that had taken the lives of so many of their loved ones?  Even though the adults kept the secret, their kids quickly picked up on their attitude towards Naruto and started a whole new cycle of hate. Helped along and mentored by Iruka, one of the few adult ninja who treats him with any respect, Naruto vows to become the next Hokage. He sees it as the only course that will make the Village acknowledge him. But first, he has to become a ninja, and he's having a hell of a time just mastering the most basic of skills. Innocent Heart, Demonic Blood is basically a fiction adaptation of the first 4 volumes of the Naruto manga which starts with Naruto's woeful performance at the ninja exams, learning that he has the nine-tailed fox demon within him, the formation of Cell 7 with Kakashi, Sakura, and Sasuke, and their first serious mission, that of escorting the bridge builder Tazuna back to the Land of Waves. A mission that will bring them into a no holds barred confrontation with the deadly ninja Zabuza and his protege, Haku. First off, I would have to say doing fiction adaptations of manga must be a pretty easy job. Why? Because there is nothing new added to the manga, at least with this novel. Most of the pages are taken up with dialogue and what little description is used is very dry and dull. In fact, the feeling I got from reading this book was of moderately polished fan fiction. In fact, I have read BETTER fan fiction than this novel. Kusakabe sticks so religiously to the original manga that there is no room to add any depth or further insight into the characters. The language is so basic and written so simply that this would probably make a good textbook for a Beginning Japanese course. In fact, I could have produced a more entertaining text just reading the Naruto manga in English and turning it into a novel rather than translating directly from Japanese. The book is needless except for the most rabid fan of the franchise. I didn't see the point of it and I am a mildly rabid fan. If you have watched the anime as well, it makes the reading of this book even doubly useless. If Kusakabe had been given a little more freedom, perhaps the novel would have been better. My Grade: C
