This week I had the pleasure to talk with AJ Beach. He is a Sandia Prep and UNM graduate. He is an athlete performance therapist and has helped many people get through injuries and back to performing the way they are comfortable with. We talk about how he got into running and competing at the New Mexico State meet. He talked about some of the expectations and how that can be a burden when you are not performing the way you want or are expecting to. We also talk about how that disappointment helped him find something he became more passionate about. We talk briefly about his brother, Curtis Beach, and how AJ never really felt in competition with him and was able to do his own thing. That can be a difficult thing for many families, so it was good to hear about their relationship and the positives. AJ also talks about the specifics of what he does and who he works with. He has worked with high school athletes to Olympic caliber athletes, from pets to grandparents. He truly wants to help anyone he can. If you are interested in seeing AJ, you can check out his website here. It has been a crazy beginning to the summer for me, but I am happy to have some guests lined up. I'm also excited for a new cross country season. There is a wonderful new group of athletes at my school and no doubt around the state. I'm excited to see what everyone is able to do this Fall. Hopefully everyone is taking care of their bodies, hydrating, and preparing well for any upcoming races or challenges. So keep on moving, listen to your body, and keep running, New Mexico.

There is a lot of discussion and information out there about the mind-body connection, isn't there.  It's a big topic.  But what does it mean?  And what can cause disassociation, a disconnect, between the head and the body?So this week I'm chatting with Joff Brown, a Functional Neurology Practitioner and Pain & Performance Therapist, to find out more.  He spends his personal time studying, and professional time treating people with, issues surrounding neural connections, movement and pain.  He explains what new approaches to movement inhibition are emerging, of which there are quite a few.  For example, Quantum Biology is looking at the body at a vibrational level and seeks to explore energy imbalance as a possible cause of functional problems. It seems we are learning more and more about what makes the body tick and how the neural communications work.  We're going deeper.  Personally, I love it when science catches up with spiritual wisdom - the chakra subtle energy system has been known for hundreds of years by the yogis in India.   One of the benefits of yoga is the rebalancing of our energy, of course.I ask Joff, what drives him to keep exploring?  Curiosity, he says.  Find Joff: www.uniquesolutionsppr.com

What a story we have for you today! Sarah Meister played volleyball at the Division 1 level for Missouri, and she has quite a few stories to tell.   While there were some people who may look at an athlete or a team at that level, and believe they all “have it made,” what the general public isn't seeing is what's going on behind the scenes.  Today, Sarah will talk about the impact one simple person made on her and the rest of their program while in College, and how having a sports psychologist as part of the program truly helped them reach their fullest potential. Not only that, it was a major influence on her career path which she has taken since college ended!  Along with our discussion about Volleyball and the amazing memories she has from competing at the D1 level, we will also be talking in-depth about her journey as a Therapist helping in the Sports & Performance Division at Millennium Counseling in Chicago.  She works with elite athletes with their mental health and sports performance. What people continue to fail to realize is, although athletes are having fun with what they do, they are still HUMAN BEINGS who have emotions and have to battle with the additional stresses that come through life! This is why it's so important to work on your mental health the same way you would work on your physical health!  Sarah is a fantastic guest on today's show and we're grateful to have her!! Neville Wright is an Olympian, a National Champion, a Role Model, a Dad, a Performance Therapist, and a Public Speaker. We talked about life, and what shaped him into the athlete he became. How leaning into seeing the positives in life and focusing on athletics enabled him to focus his energy on things that would help him rather than things that might hurt him.  Neville shared with me how he had to take a break from training, how he had a coach that believed in him and how he sees so much potential in kids. He's a great guy to talk to about resilience because he knows all about overcoming and rising to the challenge.  I hope you enjoy this episode! Thanks for listening to The Lifestyle Chase
