Paleo Quick Tip of the Day

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 17, 2026 6:42

Send us Fan MailNowadays, we hear terms like ‘Carnivore' and ‘Plant Based', and ‘Keto'- rarely Paleo or ‘Ancestral' about diets and nutrition.  I get it: we are constantly challenged in our thinking, and so it should be.  Health and fitness are journeys, we never really reach the end of that journey!  So let's examine the current ‘Journey' of health…Carnivore diets, eschewing all but beef and salt, are the big choice now.  And carnivore is a good choice for many, especially those who have long term conditions and diseases.  A carnivore diet is kind of a “hard reset”; like restarting your computer to get rid of all the junk that has accumulated.  You can give yourself a hard restart by going carnivore for a few months, and reverse things like diabetes, arthritis, and many other bad health conditions.  And it is so simple really- just eliminate every foodstuff other than meat!  Simple, but difficult, and for most folks- impossible!  But, for a period of time, say a number of months until you recover your health- it is a great idea! But then again- we all live in the real world.  Eventually most of us would love to reemerge into the real, human, and social world where we all get together with family, have dinners together with a wide variety of foodstuffs, and pick and choose what we know we can tolerate without harm to ourselves. To drink wine and beer with dinner, enjoy fellowship with others, and to bond over cigars and cognac…Yes, even health obsessed nutcases like myself enjoy such things- as I think we all ought to!  Life is a full gamet of pleasures and pitfalls, and we need to be careful what we discard and embrace!   We don't want to be obsessed with health alone, and ignore the beauties and varieties of life choices.Look at the grocery carts of your fellow shoppers.  (I do). Most of their food choices are so bad that it's awe inspiring, really!  So, for you, a compromise is in order: for the most part, choose ancestral foods, like your forebears would consume.  Be very sparing of foods that are manufactured- seed oils, snack foods, and commercial breads and pastries- most are horrid, but occasionally they are fine.  Just get the best versions you can, from small from scratch bakeries, with sour dough offerings and such.  Eat some vegetables, but only when in a good salad, or in a meal where they are a small side dish.  Oxalate laden kale and beet green dishes are best left- uneaten!  Eat carrots and such prepared in a manner your great grandmother would have done it.  Enjoy it all, but minimize desserts entirely, and perhaps eliminate them.  Have one piece of a fine chocolate like Dove, or Lindt, (I love their Orange Chocolate Bar!) and be done with it.  Paleo or Ancestral is kind of Common Sense Diet.  Eat what you really know, after doing your research and testing on your own body, works for you.  Stick with it, and work out regularly for strength, and flexibility.  Spend time outdoors, in nature, and walk barefoot.  Don't do endless cardio marathon running, and eat with common sense- NOT Doctor mandated nonsense from profit obsessed hospitals and clinics!  In fact, just as you avoid seed oils like margarine and Cool Whip and corn oil; also avoid doctors as much as possible.  They are not working in your interest- they have the clinic's agenda (the bottom line) and that is what they are required to follow.  Your health is not part of their agenda at all.Support the show

Then TD experiences one of the biggest disappointments of his adult life when he spots what he believes is a giant bowl of Cool Whip in Kat's lunch bag... only to learn it's actually yogurt. Turns out the only thing thicker than the yogurt was TD's confidence that dessert had arrived.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kathy tells how The Wizard of Oz became part of her husband's Thanksgiving tradition, and whether she'll rekindle that tradition this year. The sisters debate whether Ambrosia Salad deserves a comeback (Producer Tim says "Yes, please!"). They also reflect on how to show up for friends and family who are struggling through the holidays, and how even a small gesture—a text, a shared meal, a craft gone slightly sideways—can keep us all feeling close. And of course, the episode wraps up with What's for Dinner, featuring Nancy's cozy corn chowder recipe—perfect for chilly November nights.Head to the show notes page at threelilfishes.com/shownotes for recipes, crafts, and photos from this week's episode (including the craft we made for our tables)

Dave and Jeremy encounter the sublime, the ridiculous, and the achingly mundane as they unravel the interwoven passions of Millie, Pinky, and Willie, whose destinies tangle in Robert Altman's 3 WOMEN, a curious and beguiling exploration of shifting identities and wayside desperation. Will Altman pull off a K-Mart-coded mashup of Ingmar Bergman and Sam Shepard? Did Olive Oyl and Stephen King's Carrie once room together in an alternate timeline? Can a director really shoot half of a mid-career art film through a Lava Wave Motion Machine™  and then go on to make GOSFORD PARK? Join Dave and Jeremy as they wade through the shallows and plunge into the deep end with the titular trio of Shelley Duvall, Sissy Spacek, and Janice Rule. Listen as they pluck at loose ends, trace the development of motifs, and pick out core influences in the Cool Whip fever dream that is 3 WOMEN. Thank you for listening! PBR World Finals are back in Fort Worth and I had the honor of meeting Staci Addison who is a stock contractor and "Mom" to the top ranked bull with a 98% buckoff rate! Not only is Staci super easy to talk to, but she is beyond passionate about this sport and gives credit where it's due. Staci is the embodiment of what a mom should be, often telling her very large child "I love you no matter what.” Staci let me know she's more of a stage mom these days and lets her partner do the flanking. They are also hosting an event soon which not only includes a massive table charcuterie, but bull riding and a river float! Staci is one of those people you could talk to for hours about anything and you can tell she loves what she does. Make sure to give this episode a listen and give her a follow, I'm trying to figure out a way to meet Cool Whip and sneak him a treat!

Disrupting Publishing with Simply Media Deaver Brown, Simply Media   – The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 885 Dave Deaver Brown Following several decades of management and executive experience, Deaver Brown matriculated at Harvard College. Majoring in history, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and set his sights on graduate school. Deaver Brown continued on at Harvard, entering the Business School with a focus on marketing and business. In 1968, he attained his MBA. Entering the workforce, Deaver Brown accepted a position in Product Management at General Foods. He oversaw the Cool Whip, Awake, and Birds Eye Vegetables products, which contributed to increases in the company's overall sales. Armed with education and hands-on experience, Deaver Brown then founded Cross River, maker of the Umbroller stroller, as Co-CEO with his co-founder Alexandre Goodwin. Shortly after launching the company, Deaver Brown premiered the nation's first stick folding stroller, propelling Cross River to the number one market share in both Canada and the U.S., among other countries. Cross River was sold to Rubbermaid, now Rubbermaid Newell. In 1977, he founded Deaver Brown & Associates, a consulting and sales firm. As President, he worked closely with Petersen Baby Products to spin off various physical and real estate properties, preparing the company for sale to Cosco, Inc. Deaver Brown was instrumental in landing Ames, Hills, Toys“R”Us, Zayre, TJ Maxx, and Caldor accounts for Cosco as well as participating in their LBO from Walter Kidde and later the sale of the company to Dorel of Montreal Canada. In 1982 Deaver Brown joined the 3 co-founders of American Power Conversion (APCC-NASDAQ) as the first VP of Sales; assisted to get the venture capital investment to assist the company making the transition from solar inverters into UPS's power protection devices for the emerging PC business. APCC went on to ride the growth of the PC market as the leader in that market due to the brilliant engineers from MIT and Lincoln labs who created the best products at the lowest prices in the marketplace. APCC became one of the most successful companies in the 1990s after their IPO in 1988. It was later sold for over $6 billion, with no secondary stock offering required to get there, other than for current shareholders to liquidate some of their shares in an orderly manner. While consulting for his own company, Deaver Brown was welcomed as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at American Power Conversion. As the first to hold that position at APC, Brown found himself charged with numerous responsibilities: Deaver Brown wrote a business plan and raised money for the company, played a pivotal role in transitioning from solar inverters to internal uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and installed a specific beep sound effect in machines to alert the users to conditions such as low power. Following six years at Pride Retail Systems, an automator of retail systems, as CEO, Deaver Brown helped sell the rights to Digital Equipment (DEC) before becoming the publisher of Simply Magazine in 1997, where he has increased revenue to more than 12 times its previous amount since joining.   Listen to this informative Sharkpreneur episode with Deaver Brown about disrupting the publishing industry with Simply Media. Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week's show: - How products with lower prices make more in sales. - Why it's important for serial entrepreneurs to listen to their customers. - How people learn more from shorter lectures, speeches, and courses. - Why entrepreneurs must have a vision and follow through on it to be successful. - How to create and foster good relationships with giant retail companies.   Connect with Deaver: Guest Contact Info   Links Mentioned: simplymedia.com   Learn more about your ad choices.
