SHEIN has–and is– changing what it means to buy and sell clothing on planet Earth. And it's not a change for the better. It's a change we should all care about, no matter where WE buy our clothing. Today we'll dig into the early days of Etsy, with special attention on the very crafty, very political, very community-driven primordial soup that birthed Etsy. This will be a majorly nostalgic moment for some of you, especially if you've ever subscribed to Bust or attended a Stitch 'n Bitch night. We are going to spend most of this episode in 2005, but we'll take a brief trip back to 1998 to learn about Jean Railla and her website, Get Crafty, which brought together a new generation of crafters. Also: let's give a special, super grateful shout to our friend (and a previous guest), Christine of Lady Hogg Vintage for doing a bunch of research and sending us a ton of info! Thank you so much, Christine! She's been selling on Etsy for a long time so she had a lot of experience and memories to share that really guided the process of writing this story!Part 2Part 3Part 4Additional Reading/Listening:The Department talks about DIY/hipsters in the aughtsGet Crafty : Hip Home Ec by Jean Railla"What Would Jesus Sell?" by Jean Railla"Handmade 2.0" by Rob Walker, The New York Times"A Decade of Portland Fashion Flashbacks," by Eden Dawn, Portland Monthly.Check out Holly Stalder's beautiful clothing here.Incredible accessories by Yokoo.Want to support Clotheshorse *and* receive exclusive episodes, a weekly newsletter, and some swag? It's the summer of mini-sodes! These are 5 minute episodes to give you just enough momentum and encouragement to get moving in a bite sized amount of time. We have a serious case of Monday Syndrome in our society and believe me, I've fallen right into it too. It's the idea that we can and should start over every Monday (or 1st of the month, or 1st of the year) This breeds inconsistency and takes far more of our energy. Today, I want to talk about how to stop starting over so you can gain some actual momentum.
It's the summer of mini-sodes! These are 5 minute episodes to give you just enough momentum and encouragement to get moving in a bite sized amount of time. Happiness is a feeling, not a destination. It isn't a place you have to be, it's a feeling you can have in any given moment, but it's a complete change in mindset and goes against everything we've been taught.
It's the summer of mini-sodes! These are 5 minute episodes to give you just enough momentum and encouragement to get moving in a bite sized amount of time. Many times, I've spoken about the power of changing "should" to "could" and today, I want to give you the quick and simple encouragement to switch the feelings of obligation to feelings of possibility.

It's the summer of mini-sodes! These are 5 minute episodes to give you just enough momentum and encouragement to get moving in a bite sized amount of time. Guilt has no place in motherhood, especially when most "mom guilt" is nothing more than a reaction to societies expectations that we should take care of everyone else before ourselves, all the time. It's time to embrace what guilt-free motherhood truly looks like.
It's the summer of mini-sodes! These are 5 minute episodes to give you just enough momentum and encouragement to get moving in a bite sized amount of time. Hang out with ïlluMimamiii as she shares what's transpired over the first month of January 2022, what's been manifested, where her head is at, what love she's looking for.
After hours of writing and recording, this is all I could complete to publish tonight (lol). But I guess putting something out is better than nothing.
I rose around 5AM. I'm practicing rising and not grabbing the phone. I'm practicing recalling my dreams as soon as I rise. Today I checked in on my mother who is not feeling so great. I immediately made my tea and began to record this intentional meditation for my mom. We have to stay on those we love. We have to be there for them in the ways that we can. I've been practicing praying multiple times a day and I have many modes of prayer. Here is one. It's more of a breath meditation. Receive this beautiful cleansing energy. If you're experiencing sickness, worry, anxiety, fear, etc. listen to this. Share it with a loved one. “Our lives are not ours alone and we must remember the importance of the interconnectedness that maintains this balance.”

When was the "golden era" of Etsy? In the final installment of the Etsy-sodes, we will be exploring many pivotal moments that changed the company's trajectory (and the lives of its sellers). When did the good times end/the less good times begin? We will try to figure that out! We'll be covering the return (and bitter departure) of Rob Kalin, the manufacturing policy change, the IPO (and the subsequent lawsuit) and all the new fees and shipping polices. And we'll break down why so many makers stay with Etsy despite all of these issues. And again, let's give a special, super grateful shout to our friend (and a previous guest), Christine of Lady Hogg Vintage for doing a bunch of research and sending us a ton of info! Thank you so much, Christine! She's been selling on Etsy for a long time so she had a lot of experience and memories to share that really guided the process of writing this story!Extra Credit Reading (there's so much for this episode)!EtsybitchCallin' Out On Etsy"From Etsy to Sweatsy," April Winchell, Vice."How Etsy Alienated Its Crafters and Lost Its Soul," Grace Dobush, Wired."Creating Etsy's Handmade Marketplace," Teri Evans, The Wall Street Journal."Was Etsy too good to be true?" Today we'll dig into the early days of Etsy, with special attention on the very crafty, very political, very community-driven primordial soup that birthed Etsy.

All four of our MASS DEBATERS are at it again to talk about the newest topics in the sports world, including last weeks signing of Cam Newton to the Patriots!! Like clockwork, we start out with some Football Friday, where we get ready for the Red Stars, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, and those jump suits that kids used to wear in middle school. Next, brought to you by Wentz vs Garoppolo and Darnold vs Allen, we continue last SODEs debate about Patrick Mahomes contract extension. Hand Lee is coming around and Nick Bocker finally puts a dagger in the argument much like Kevin Durant did against the Cavs in the Finals two years in a row. No I won’t tell you who they are, you have to listen for that.

The boys do their first of many burgundy episodes, as befits America’s most beloved wine critics. They pick two little selections from the Cote de Beaune, and do what they do best. I hope you planned to compare French and Incan inheritance law today and to totally shit on Mike Bloomberg, because that’s what’s on the menu. Also, a very spirited discussion of what, exactly, “Burgundy” *means.* Please DM Duck to discuss the wine professionals for Bernie Sanders phone bank and also, uh, here’s the new fucking hashtag you wanted : #popbottlesforbernie — feel free to send some cash to the only leftist who has a chance to be president in our lifetimes. Thank you to our patreons for these wines, please join their ranks //// LIST///Jean-Marc Roulot, Mersault, 2017//Domaine Chassorney, Saint-Romain, 'Sous Roche,' 2017 * Please do not buy this wine. It's been a short break for Classics as Brandon has been instrumental in participating in the redefining of the Front Row in recent weeks. And while he's also co-hosting the Zone-i-Sodes with Scott, he is now back at his first love of Classic cinema. This week, we thought we'd dip into the classic comedy realm because, well, we all could use it! So we dive into the world of cross-dressing musicians, bad Cary Grant impressions, Marilyn Monroe and mob killings as we break down what many call the best comedy of all time: 1959's "Some Like It Hot". Brandon is joined by Jeremy Goeckner.
