The Compendium Podcast: An Assembly of Fascinating and Intriguing Things
In this episode of The Compendium, we explore how the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal extended beyond a private affair between President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. It became part of a broader effort, with some suggesting it was a "vast conspiracy" aimed at undermining the presidency, using Monica and other women as pawns in a political agenda. We examine how the scandal escalated into an impeachment trial and a media frenzy, with secret tapes at its center. Today, we uncover the truth and untold layers behind one of the most significant political scandals of the 20th century. We give you the Compendium, but if you want more, then check out these great resources:"Monica's Story" by Andrew Morton"The Starr Report" by Kenneth Starr"A Vast Conspiracy: The Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President" by Jeffrey Toobin"The Clinton Affair" – Documentary series by A&E“Impeachment” the American Crime StoryMessage Kyle and AdamConnect with Us:

Warning: Explicit Conversations About Politics, Culture, & Sexuality Ken Starr passed away last week, so I'm re-releasing this comic, erotic and very historic, turn-of-the-21st century Dr. Susan Block Show throwback, taking you onstage at the World Pornography Conference where I presented the 1998 Boobie Award for “Best National Pornography Production” to Kenneth W. Starr, the notorious neo-Puritanical Independent Counsel who spearheaded a ruthless witch hunt, power grab and smear campaign against then-President Bill Clinton, climaxing with the release of The Starr Report—like a hot money shot that lands in your eye or perhaps up your nose. “Never has a piece of common porn so captured the hearts, minds and gonads of so many Americans, even those of us who really don't care who swallows the presidential semen.” I proclaimed to my audience of professors, porn stars, lawyers and reporters hosted by Annie Sprinkle and Candida Royalle. “Never has the mainstream American media proven itself to be such a fantastic public relations machine for a single porn production, broadcasting every rumor and innuendo in this sperm-swirling storm of gossip, intrigue and sanctimonious outrage.” If you lived through it, you know how it dominated the news, and #KenStarr was the instigator, chief voyeur and Grand Inquisitor. I also take you into my broadcast bed for an intimate after-party at the Villa Piacere where Capt'n Max and I explore the juicy details of the #StarrReport with such luminaries as Dr. Betty Dodson, Richard Pacheco, Kat Sunlove, Jack Hafferkamp, LaSara, KISS and Tod Hunter. Also at the Pornucopia: Dr. Vern Bullough, Dr. Carol Queen, Al Goldstein, Roy Karch and Veronica Vera. This special episode captures a truly historic moment, including footage from the day a coerced and terrorized Monica Lewinsky testified before a Grand Jury, and reactions to the Starr Report and Boobie Award, including live interviews with KTLA5 and KNBC4. At a time when most Americans were becoming more open, tolerant and sex-positive, Ken Starr and his team of reactionary young ninjas (including a fledgling Brett Kavanaugh and Ann Coulter) didn't succeed in their intended coup d'état (or as Joe Conason called it, "Coup de Twat"), but they did turn the clock back on sexual freedom, and now we have QAnon and a powerful majority on the Supreme Court (including Kavanaugh!) literally forcing their extreme #NeoPuritanical ways on the rest of us. This video first aired uncensored in 1998 on public access TV stations around America. Of course, this version is censored for Youtube (we don't want our account shut down). So... On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the program reflects on the life and legacy of former Aplleleate Judge, Independent Counsel, and US Solicitor General Ken Starr. Starr was best known for his work on the Starr Report concerning the investigation of then-President Bill Clinton. Then, President Joe Biden is praising himself for the so-called Inflation Reduction Act while inflation was just measured at 8.3% (year-over-year) with increases in gas measured at 25%, electricity at 15%, and food at 11% with eggs alone at a 40% increase. The Federal Reserve cannot keep up with controlling the monetary side of Biden's policy because the fiscal side of his spending is so out of control and will only add to inflation. Later, those criticizing 'forever wars' citing Ukraine as 'none of our business' doesn't understand U.S interests abroad. it's one thing to disagree with the accounting of funds disbursed, but it's another to say we should surrender our position against genocidal maniacs. Afterward, US Sen. Marsha Blackburn joins the show to express her disdain for the Biden Administrations' tacit support for Iran's nuclear weapons program. Blackburn added that Israel has been forthright in their concerns and agrees that Congress should have a role in these unilateral decisions. Learn more about your ad choices. It's Wednesday, September 14th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark India Supreme Court orders gov't to reveal info on persecution of Christians On September 1, India's Supreme Court ordered the government to provide details on reported attacks against Christians in the country. Christian groups in India have been calling for an end to the violence after believers suffered over 500 attacks just last year. Open Doors spokesperson Rinzen Baleng welcomed the court order. He said, “Considering the government's complete denial of the rising assaults on Christians in India, the Supreme Court's order for further verification of the matter is a positive step. … It will help establish that these assaults are not just limited to a few individuals, but against the larger Christian community.” British March for Life draws 7,000 The March for Life in the United Kingdom held its largest event ever this month. At least 7,000 people joined the march in London. Pro-lifers held banners which said “10 million too many,” referencing the number of babies murdered in the womb in England and Wales since abortion was legalized in 1967. Catherine Robinson with Right To Life U.K. said, “It's so encouraging to attend the march and see the number of people attending growing so rapidly, especially in terms of all the young people who recognize abortion for what it is.” Proverbs 31:8 commands, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” Hungary approves anti-abortion rule Meanwhile in Hungary, the eastern European country approved its first anti-abortion rule since 1956. Hungary legalized abortion nearly 70 years ago under socialist rule. Since then, over six million babies have been murdered in the womb. In 2011, Hungary amended its constitution to say, “the life of a fetus will be protected from conception.” However, abortion is still legal. The new rule issued Monday requires abortionists to give mothers seeking an abortion “a clearly identifiable indication of fetal vital signs.” Biden brags about reducing inflation as inflation goes up President Joe Biden is being slammed for a White House celebration of the Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act Tuesday, the same day higher-than-expected inflation in August was announced, report Fox News. Listen to his claim on the White House lawn yesterday. BIDEN: “Exactly four weeks ago today, I signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, the single most important legislation passed in the Congress to combat inflation, and one of the most significant laws in our nation's history, in my view.” It was so bad that Fox News host Neil Cavuto cut in with some facts which were off message for the White House. BIDEN: “For years, so many of us have been trying to fix this problem. But for years, Big Pharma blocked Medicare from negotiating lower drug practices … prices.” CAVUTO: “Alright, I do not want to be a party crasher, but we interrupt this celebration for a hard, cold dose of reality. Stocks tanking because inflation is accelerating. The very inflation that the President said he's made great progress addressing, heralding his Inflation Reduction Act as the boon for the economy that we didn't see in a key number out earlier today.” Biden's strange time reference Later, on the White House lawn Tuesday, President Biden made a weird time reference. He said he became a senator 720 years ago. Listen. BIDEN: “How long we've been fighting Pharma? How long have we been taking on these interests? From the time I got to the Senate 720 years ago. (crowd laughs at the president) I'm serious. Think about it.” For the record, Biden became a senator in 1972 at the age of 29. That would be 50 years ago, not 720. Perhaps the president was making a self-deprecating joke about his age. Or perhaps it's another data point in his cognitive decline. Former Independent Counsel Ken Starr died Ken Starr, the independent counsel who headed the investigation that led to the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, died Tuesday after a lengthy illness, reports Fox News. He was 76. Starr was initially appointed to investigate the suicide of deputy White House counsel Vince Foster and the Whitewater real estate investments of Clinton. The investigation was expanded to include suspected perjury about Clinton's sexual activity with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern. STARR: “When the information came to us that the President of the United States may have been in the process of committing perjury, obstructing justice, we went to the Attorney General of the United States, Janet Reno. She agreed. So, the rest is all history.” After more than four years of investigation, Starr filed the Starr Report, which alleged that Clinton lied about the existence of the affair during a sworn deposition. In 2018, he released a book entitled Contempt: A Memoir of the Clinton Investigation. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ken Starr can be made to: Alliance Defending Freedom, 15100 N. 90th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. New York court shut down Christian adoption agency Last Wednesday, a U.S. federal district court ruled that the state of New York cannot shut down a Christian adoption agency for its beliefs. New Hope Family Services has been involved in litigation since 2018. New York's Office of Children and Family Services has tried to force the agency to offer adoption services to homosexual couples and unmarried heterosexual couples who are living in sin. Alliance Defending Freedom represented New Hope in court. ADF Senior Counsel Roger Brooks said, “The court's decision is great news for children waiting to be adopted. … New Hope is a private, religious ministry that doesn't take a dime from the government. Shutting down an adoption provider for its religious beliefs … benefits no one—certainly not children.” Franklin Graham preaches to 17,000 in Mongolia And finally, hundreds of Mongolian churches gathered for a large-scale evangelistic event for the first time in the eastern Asian nation's history last Saturday. Evangelist Franklin Graham preached at the historic two-night Festival of Hope attended by over 17,000 people. GRAHAM: “Tonight, I am going to give you an opportunity to place your faith and trust in God's Son, Jesus Christ. (Mongolian translation) The Bible tells us we've have all sinned. (Mongolian translation) That our sins separate us from God. (Mongolian translation)” Over half of Mongolia is Buddhist, and most have not heard the Gospel before. Since the 1990s, an estimated 40,000 Mongolians have converted to Christianity, representing about 2% of the population. Isaiah 9:7 says of Christ, “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, September 14th, in the year of our Lord 2022. In 1998, a story broke that President Bill Clinton was having an ongoing affair with 24 year-old White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. The media was eager to make Monica the face of the scandal; but Bill would be the one charged with perjury, leading to his impeachment. In this episode, we'll explore the allegations against Bill Clinton, the details of his relationship with Monica (and others), the investigation, the Starr Report, etc. (Part 1 of 2) Main Sources: The Starr Report Monica Lewinsky interviews (Barbara Walters, Forbes 30 Under 30, TedTalk, etc) View more sources at https://www.brokenlimelight.com/episodes/e35-bill-clintonmonica-lewinsky * * * * *Didi West is not a journalist or mental health professional, she is simply an entertainer and podcaster who enjoys researching true crime, dissecting conspiracy theories, and sharing stories and unknown facts about people in the limelight. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:30 We will be taking two weeks off for the Met Gala and the Emmys and will be back on October 2nd. We'll be doing our three weeks on one week off schedule for October and will be taking two weeks off both in November and December around the holidays. We'll be clearer about that the closer we get to those dates. Chandra has been covering the Venice Film Festival fashion. Kristen Stewart's 70s Chanel nightie was particularly bad. Angelina Jolie: Minutes 4:30 to 13:30 Angelina Jolie did a candid interview with The Guardian Weekend Magazine to promote her new book Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth. Angelina spilled a little bit, but Chandra thinks she's still under a legal gag order due to her 2018 custody agreement. It seems like Angelina is fed up with Brad. In that interview she said she was afraid for her children's safety and that she had an assault experience with Harvey Weinstein that she told Brad about. Brad worked with Weinstein twice after Angelina told him about that, which Angelina said hurt her. Brad knew about Gwyneth Paltrow being sexually harassed by Weinstein, because Gwyneth said she told him about it. Both Brad and Harvey Weinstein issued statements to TMZ denying Angelina's account, with Weinstein's being particularly despicable and Brad's just denying that he worked with Weinstein on Inglourious Basterds. In 2017, The Daily Beast ran a story about Brad Pitt's business dealings with Harvey Weinstein. The journalist said that Brad's people tried to shut that story down. Unlike other men who worked with Weinstein, like George Clooney, Kevin Smith, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt has never addressed his association with him. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Ameerah talk about this. We wonder whether Brad was emotionally abusive to Angelina and the kids, especially considering how long he's dragged out the divorce case. Monica Lewinsky: Minutes 13:30 to 22 Monica Lewinsky has been promoting American Crime Story: Impeachment, for which she's a producer. Beanie Feldstein is playing Monica, but Monica has been doing more press. Monica's interviews sound like revisionist history given what we know about her case. We wonder why she hasn't seemed to move on from this. We lived through this part of history and listened to her tapes with Linda Tripp and read the Starr Report. Monica was an adult when this happened and admitted pursuing Clinton. It was an abuse of power on his part and Monica was a victim of the press and of the Republicans. We wonder why she's not taking responsibility for her part though. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this. John Mulaney: Minutes 22 to 31 We explain why we don't use Mulaney's girlfriend's name in the titles to our stories. You can hear more about that in episode 15 or read about it in the story we talked about which Chandra covered Friday. I go off on people commenting without reading even one line of the story. Mulaney's girlfriend is pregnant, and he went on Seth Meyers to talk about that. He opened with the alleged timeline of their relationship, which he claimed happened right after he got out of rehab for the second time in February. He said he split from his wife in the fall. However sources close to his estranged wife, Anne-Marie Tendler, have denied his timeline and say that he didn't tell her he wanted a divorce until February. I play a segment from Zoom were we talk about this. Comments of the Week: Minutes 31 to end My comment of the week is from TheOriginalMia on the post from People Royals claiming that Kate and William's kids have “all the right ingredients.” Here's a link to Tanisha's tweet about that. Chandra's comment of the week is from Becks1 on the post about the Royal Foundation wanting to focus on diversity. Thanks for listening bitches!

Social Scene: Monica Lewinsky Scandal (Highlights) 57. Born in San Francisco in 1973, Monica Lewinsky was raised in a well-off family in the Los Angeles area. In the summer of 1995 (@ 22 yrs. old), after graduating from Lewis and Clark College, she landed an unpaid internship in the White House chief of staff’s office. 58. In November 1995, during a federal government shutdown, Lewinsky flirted with the president and the two had their first sexual encounter. Later that month, she took a paying job in the Office of Legislative Affairs. 59. They had seven more encounters in the White House and her visits started drawing notice from people. In April 1996, a deputy chief of staff had her transferred to a job at the Pentagon. 60. The president and Lewinsky had two more encounters, the last was in spring 1997, and stayed in touch by phone. 61. At the Pentagon, she befriended a coworker, Linda Tripp, and she confided details of her affair with the president. Tripp in turn shared the story with an anti-Clinton conservative literary agent she knew. That person urged Tripp to secretly, and in violation of taping laws, record hours of her phone conversations with Lewinsky. 62. Word of Tripp’s tapes made it to lawyers working on behalf of Paula Jones, a former government employee who had filed a lawsuit against the president for alleged sexual misconduct that took place in 1991, when he was governor of Arkansas. 63. In December 1997, Lewinsky was subpoenaed by Jones’ attorneys and, after the president allegedly suggested she be evasive, the former intern denied in an affidavit that she had had a sexual relationship with Clinton. 64. Around the same time, independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who had been investigating Clinton and his wife Hillary’s involvement in a failed business venture called Whitewater, found out about Tripp’s recordings. Soon afterward, FBI agents fitted Tripp with a hidden microphone so she could legally tape her conversations with Lewinsky. 65. Then Starr expanded his investigation to include the president’s relationship with Lewinsky and told her that if she did not cooperate with the investigation she would be charged with perjury. 66. When Clinton was deposed in January 1998 by Jones’ legal team, he claimed he had never had sexual relations with Lewinsky. (The Big Lie) 67. On January 17, 1998, the Drudge Report, a conservative online news site, published the accusations against the president and the next day revealed Lewinsky’s identity. The mainstream media picked up the story a few days later, and a national scandal Erupted. Clinton refuted the allegations against him, famously stating at a press conference, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” 68. That July, Lewinsky’s lawyers announced she had been granted immunity in exchange for her testimony. She also gave Starr’s team physical evidence of her affair with Clinton: a blue dress with an incriminating stain containing the president’s DNA. At the suggestion of Tripp, Lewinsky had never laundered the garment. 69. On August 17, 1998, Clinton testified before a grand jury and confessed he had engaged in “inappropriate intimate physical contact” with Lewinsky. However, the president contended his actions did not meet the definition of sexual relations used by Jones’ attorneys—so he had not perjured himself. That night, he appeared on national TV and apologized for his behavior but maintained he had never asked anyone involved to lie or do anything illegal. 70. In September 1998, Starr gave Congress a 445-page report. The Starr Report was soon made public by Congress and published in book form, becoming a best-seller 71. In December, the House approved two articles of impeachment against him: perjury and obstruction of justice. He was only the second president in U.S. history to be impeached (after President Andrew Johnson in 1868). 72. On February 12, 1999, following a five-week trial in the Senate, Clinton was acquitted. (During his impeachment proceedings, he agreed to settle the Paula Jones lawsuit for $850,000, but admitted no wrongdoing.) 73. Open Comments: 74. Question: Impeach? Childhood & Early Life: Shawn Corey Carter was born in Brooklyn, New York City in 1969. He is the last of the four children. When he was only 11 years old, his father abandoned the family. They lived in the drug-infested ‘Marcy Projects’, where violence and gun-culture were also prevalent. He soon became so imbibed the gun-culture that he allegedly shot his elder brother in the shoulder for pocketing his jewelry. His interest in music was sparked from early on when he received a boom box for his birthday from his mother. He began free styling, scripting lyrics and copied the music of many popular artists of the time. He studied at several local high schools, where he was classmates with future performers, Busta Rhymes and The Notorious B.I.G., before ultimately dropping out and selling drugs. 126. Career Highlights 127. 1989 Jaz-O (@19yrs): Hooked up with local star and fellow project inhabitant, Jaz-O, who became his guru and taught him the industry basics. In order to pay homage to his mentor, he changed his name to Jay-Z, since Sean was known as ‘Jazzy’ in his neighborhood. Jaz-O’s “Hawaiian Sophie” is one of Jay-Z’s earliest appearances on wax. - Key development: He saw Jaz-O get jerked over by the record business. No record deal and he return to selling drugs. 128. 1992 Big Daddy Kane (@22): BDK records a mixtape with Jaz-O and Jay-Z. Eventually, BDK and Jay start working together and during BDK’s time with the Patti LaBelle tour he had Jay-Z performing for him while was in the back changing clothes. Key Development: Exposure and experience, but no deal. Back to the streets. 129. 1994 Original Flavor/Clark Kent/Damon Dash (@24): Original Flavor was one of rap's middle school crews headed by Ski, an MC/producer. They were also the first group managed by future recording industry executive Damon Dash. Although Ski worked with legendary New York DJ Clark Kent for the groups debut project, the album fizzled. For their follow-up, Ski enlisted the aid of a few more MCs including a young Brooklynite with some experience in the rap field, Jay-Z. Original Flavor was Jay-Z's training ground and it served as a catapult for his future endeavors. Flavor's sophomore release was released in 1994 and again fizzled. However, the lead single "Can I Get Open" features Jay-Z in impeccable pre-Jayhova form. Jay-Z's skills far surpassed those of the rest of the crew and his solo career would begin soon. Key Development: Local buzz, regional tours, several singles and videos but no deal. Starts transition from the streets. 130. 1995-96 Roc-A-Fella Records (@25): Frustrated with being turned down by several major labels Carter, Dash and Kareem Burke started their own label, Roc-A-Fella, as an independent outlet for Jay-Z's music. After becoming a local sensation, Jay-Z turned into Jigga and adopted the Tony Montana-styled persona. He would continue to work with his Original Flavor partner Ski after the group disbanded, making him a member/producer of his Roc-a-Fella staff. Jay-Z was also supported by The Notorious B.I.G.'s producer DJ Clark Kent. Key Development: Debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt’ released in 1996. It did not immediately attain commercial success, but it spawned several hits, and established Jay-Z in the hip-hop community. No more streets. 131. 1997 Def Jam (@27): Roc-A-Fella Records agreed to a 50/50 partnership and distribution deal with Def Jam. His second studio album, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1. Is released. The album debuted at #3 and most of the production is handled by Puff Daddy's production team giving the album a glossier sound than its predecessor. It was a shift from the mafioso rap themes of his first effort to a more popular sound. Critical reviews: "Though the productions are just a bit flashier and more commercial than on his debut, Jay-Z remained the tough street rapper, and even improved a bit on his flow...he struts the line between project poet and up-and-coming player" while balancing "both personas with the best rapping heard in the rap game since the deaths of 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G." (Also, in response to the sellout charge, Roc-A-Fella Records released the movie Streets Is Watching.) 132. 1998 Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life: The third studio album was released on September 29, 1998, by Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings. Key Development: He cracks the code. This album went on to become his most commercially successful album to date, selling over 5 million copies. Critics review: Q magazine called it "the epitome of mainstream hip hop". 133. Audio Clip 134. Open Comments: 135. Question: Everybody knows someone who overcame the “streets” and is a success or should have overcome the “streets” and been a success. Who is your personal “Jay-Z”? 136. Movie Scene: Beloved 137. Summary: In 1873 Ohio, Sethe (Oprah Winfrey) is a mother of three haunted by her horrific slavery past and her desperate actions for freedom. As a result, Sethe's home is haunted by a furious poltergeist, which drives away her two sons. Sethe and her daughter (Kimberly Elise) endure living with the spirit for 10 more years, until an old friend, Paul D. Garner (Danny Glover), arrives to run it out. After Garner moves in, a strange woman named Beloved (Thandie Newton) enters their lives, causing turmoil. 138. Accolades: Academy Awards, Best Costume Design: Colleen Atwood (Nominated), Chicago Film Critics, Most Promising Actress: Kimberly Elise (Winner), NAACP Image Awards, Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture: Danny Glover (Winner) 139. Review: Demme's direction tells the story through mood and accumulation of incident, rather than through a traditional story line. His editor, Carol Littleton, takes on the difficult task of helping us find our way through the maze. Some audience members, I imagine, will not like it--will find it confusing or too convoluted. And it does not provide the kind of easy lift at the end that they might expect. Sethe's tragic story is the kind where the only happy ending is that it is over. - Roger Ebert 140. Review: No Peace from a Brutal Legacy. "Beloved" works on its own but is much enhanced by familiarity with the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. In so ambitiously bringing this story to the screen, Ms. Winfrey underscores a favorite, invaluable credo: read the book. - By Janet Maslin. NY Times 141. Fallout: 'Beloved' Tests Racial Themes At Box Office; Will This Winfrey Film Appeal to White Audiences? - By Bernard Weinraub 142. Answer: No. Winfrey has gone on public record stating that she ate 30 pounds of macaroni and cheese when she was informed the Saturday after the movie opened that "we got beat by something called Chucky." Oprah also claimed that Beloved's failure at the box office was the worst moment in her career and brought her into a major depression. "It was the only time in my life that I was ever depressed, and I recognized that I (was) depressed because I've done enough shows (on the topic). 'Oh, this is what people must feel like who are depressed.” 143. Open Comments 144. Technology that changed us: The 1990s, from Worldwide Web to Google - By David Gewirtz, ZDNET 146. 1990: The First Web Browser - Of all the technologies that changed our lives, perhaps the most profound of the last 50 years has been the web. But it was not the ability to hyperlink documents that made the most impact. Instead, it was the application that presented all that information to users, the browser. English scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented and wrote the first web browser in 1990 while employed at CERN near Geneva, Switzerland. Notables: Adobe released the first version of Photoshop in 1990. 147. 1991: Linux - On August 25, 1991, Linus Torvalds typed the following to the Minix Usenet newsgroup, and it changed everything, "I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional..." Today, Linux runs in everything, from light bulbs to cars, to almost all TVs and phones on the market. Notable: Second generation (2G) cell phones. 2G service used digital transmission instead of analog and paved the way for SMS messaging. 148. 1992: The First Sms Text Message - December 3, 1992 engineer Neil Papworth sent a message to Richard Jarvis on a Vodafone Orbitel 901 handset. It said, "MERRY CHRISTMAS". 149. 1993: Mosaic Web Browser - It was the first browser that could display images. Mosaic was created by grad students at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) located at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Mosaic eventually became Netscape, which dominated the web (for a while, at least). 150. 1994: Amazon Founded - It started as a source for books. Notable: Sony's first PlayStation 151. 1995: Windows 95 And Ie 1.0 - Windows 95 was the first version of Windows to include IE, which would become the dominant browser for more than a decade. Notable (1): E-commerce: While the concept of e-commerce existed loosely for a few years, it was not until the 1990s that modern e-commerce was born. In 1995, both Amazon and eBay launched, and in 1999 Alibaba made its debut. Notable (2): JavaScript. SSL, and eBay 152. 1996: Palm Pilot Handheld - The first successful handheld PDA. Notable: DVD, & USB 153. 1997: Steve Jobs Returns To Apple - Apple would soon utterly transform music and telephones. Notable: BlackBerry and preparing for the Y2K bug. 156. Question: Best 90’s tech: 157. Vote: Best/most important/favorite pop culture item from 1998?
This week at Sipping Tea was inspired by the world of Shonda Rhimes. Meda and Andy discuss real life political scandals such as the Starr Report and The D.C. Madam.
Taylor and Sweta welcome former NYC Public Defender, Mike Starr Hopkins. He is the founding partner of Northern Starr Strategies who also served on the Democratic presidential campaigns for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Delaney. They candidly discuss what brought America to this racial justice tipping point in history, and what evidence there is for effective equitability policies going forward. If Mike sounds familiar it’s because you’ve probably heard him on his popular podcast, The Starr Report, or seen him on MSNBC, CBS, C-SPAN, and more! We discuss the difference between defunding vs. abolishing the police, qualified immunity, and more. Civil discourse, spreading awareness, and knowledge is how society progresses. We at Risky Behavior all agree that we need to have this somber, but critical conversation. As we end our first season with this informative, eye-opening episode, we invite you to have a drink as per usual, to listen and learn, and to think critically about where we are in America, and where conversations and actions need to go for a truly equitable future. Remember, vote for your local representatives! They have more influence on your lives and communities than the lame-duck president. Welcome to the Starr Report. I'm your host Michael Starr Hopkins. I wanted to take a second to address where we are in this moment in history. This podcast has launched in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. Most major cities have sheltered in a place and we're all locked in our houses wondering when things will get back to normal. I want each and every one of you to know that things will get back to normal, but when they do, we have an obligation to remember this. Remember the heroics of ordinary people like the people who stock your grocery stores or deliver the food to your homes, remember the doctors and the nurses who put their lives in danger, and even gave their lives, to protect each and every one of us. They are the heroes in this moment. We owe it to them to not forget the courage and humanity that they've. We also owe it to them to remember the people who said that some people's lives were less important than the stock market and to remember the people who said we could afford to bail out companies but couldn't afford Universal healthcare. We far too often let the chaos and noise of our politics overwhelm us and numb us to the very things we see with our own eyes. Let's be very clear, this was preventable. Donald Trump didn't create this virus but his failure to adequately respond created this unnecessary disaster.I created “the Starr Report” so that we can figure out how to ensure that when we come out of this tragedy, we come out stronger, and more prepared to create the type of society that we can all be proud of. Since I can't get into the studio with our guests, we'll have to resort to phone calls and Skype, so be patient with me as I learn the ropes. We'll grow together. This is a moment in history that will literally be a chapter in the history books. Join me as I talk to some of America's most influential voices about their failures, their successes, and how we can learn from each other. This is “The Starr Report”.
William Joseph Walsh is a former congressman and Republican presidential candidate. He served one term in the United States House of Representatives for Illinois' IL-8. “The Starr Report” offers intimate interviews with some of America's biggest influencers. From politicians, to journalists, to titans of industry, Michael Starr Hopkins strips away the facade and allows his guests to open up and talk about the journey that led them to the limelight. If you're looking for an honest conversation about the career paths of some of America's biggest up and comers, “The Starr Report” is the podcast for you.
Thanks so much for tuning in to the “The Starr Report”. I'm your host, Michael Starr Hopkins, founding partner of Northern Starr Strategies and Lenny Kravitz doppelganger. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to join us for a unique and hopefully interesting conversation with our Countries most influential voices. On today's episode, we've got Kurt Bardella. Kurt Bardella is a columnist for HuffPost and an NBC NEWS THINK contributor as well as a member of USA Today's Board of Contributors. He is also the creator and publisher of the country music platform the Morning Hangover.Kurt is the former spokesperson for Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Senator Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Rep. Darrell Issa (R- CA) and the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform. He was also the media consultant for Breitbart News. In 2017, Kurt left the Republican Party to join the Democratic Party.
The case for impeachment against Bill Clinton is also a salacious page turner outlining the president's White House affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. The independent counsel says the titillating details are necessary. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gary Byrne and his co-writer Grant Schmidt discuss the comparison that many on the left are making: comparing The Starr Report and Starr Investigation to the Mueller Report Summary and the Mueller Investigation. The devil is in the details and there is certainly an insistence to gloss over or re-characterize history and its many players.

Ken Starr has been a D.C. Circuit Court judge, a law school dean and the U.S. solicitor general. But he is best known for his work in the Office of the Independent Counsel and the report that came to colloquially bear his name: the Starr Report, which unveiled the salacious details of President Bill Clinton's affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Twenty years after President Clinton's impeachment by the U.S. House of Representatives, Starr has written "Contempt: A Memoir of the Clinton Investigation." Starr spoke with the ABA Journal's Lee Rawles in late October about how he came to run the OIC; what the Whitewater scandal was really about; how he thinks we should evaluate conspiracy theories; and what impact being the focus of massive media coverage has had on his ideas about the importance of a free press. He also shares his thoughts on Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who served under him in the OIC, and why he advocated for an end to the Office of the Independent Counsel.
