Happy Sunday!!! This week we talk about all things Sam's son's birthday/MIL issues and Morgan's aversion to antique shops and then review It's a love story by Annabel Monaghan where Sam is convinced that Jack's name is Jake for the majority of the review. If you want to skip the chit chat the review begins at the 10 min mark! Don't forget to follow all of our socials here! Book Summary: From the USA Today bestselling author of Nora Goes Off Script, a novel about a former adolescent TV punchline who has left her awkwardness in the rearview mirror thanks to a fake-it-till-you-make-it mantra that has her on the cusp of success, until she tells a lie that sets her on a crash-course with her past, spending a week in Long Island with the last man she thinks might make her believe in love. Rules for a love story: There are none. It's all a lie. Jane Jackson knows that true love is a lie. Laughter is the only truth—you can't fake a belly laugh. Jane should know, she spent her adolescence as "Poor Janey Jakes," the barbecue-sauce-in-her-braces punchline on America's fifth-favorite sitcom. Now she's a Creative Executive at Clearwater Studios and she's living by a new mantra: Fake it till you make it. Except, she might have faked it too far. Desperate to get her first project greenlit and riled up by pompous cinematographer and one-time crush Dan Finnegan, she opened her mouth and a big fat fib fell out. She claimed that Jack Quinlan, hottest popstar of the moment, has promised to write an original song for the soundtrack. Jack may have been her first kiss—and greatest source of shame—but she hasn't spoken to him in twenty years. Now, Jane must turn to the last man she'd ever want to owe: Dan Finnegan. Because Jack is playing a festival in Dan's hometown on Long Island, and Dan has an in. A week in close quarters with Dan while facing down her past is Jane's idea of hell, but Dan just might surprise her. While covering up her lie, can they find something true?

On this week's show, I'm joined by special guest author James Warda to discuss some of the answers to a question that I'm sure every one of us has asked multiple times, "How does Disney do that?" We all have a memory of that moment in time that we experienced an attraction or a show in the theme parks and we came away from the experience so completely blown away. Whether it was the impressive technology, the emotional impact, or the way the experience achieved something we thought was completely impossible and against the laws of physics, the question is always the same....."How does Disney do that?". James Warda set up a site devoted to Disney fans sharing their experiences and then teamed up with a former Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering to help answer some of these questions in the upcoming book titled, "How Does Disney Do That?". We'll talk about these and a whole lot more!

Do you have an entrepreneurial itch? Do you see a gap in the market that you feel you can fill? Are you just tired of having a boss or grinding out the 9-5? Are you staying at home to raise your children and thinking about ways to bring in a little extra income? Starting a business from the ground up is no easy feat. We often hear people throw out the statistic that the average business start-up lasts only 5 years. But wait, that is not every start up! There are start-ups that have been and are successful. What does it take to break from the 5 yr statistic? Donna and Jay bring on guest host Karen Sroka, veteran and owner of My Scratch Offs. They discuss how her business came to fruition, what it took to get it off the ground, the trials and tribulations, and what she has learned during her 14 years of owning and operating the business. Karen's Bio Karen Sroka is an entrepreneur and the Founder and Creative Executive of My Scratch Offs. She was born and raised in Maryland. She enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 19. In the Air Force she worked as a Medical and Aeromedical Evacuation Technician. After the Air Force she chose to return to school full time, at Allan Hancock and Excellsior College, and stay home to raise her 2 daughters Madison (17) and Molly (14). While Molly was still an infant is when My Scratch Offs was created. Her love of graphic design is what spurred the idea to create My Scratch Offs. A company that started in 2008 to bring to the consumer market little-known scratch off products. In 14 years, she, and her small staff, have built a physical and online business presence that is rivalled by few. Karen grew the business in her home for the first 4 years and then moved the business into commercial space, where she remains today. Karen lives in Belleville, Illinois with her daughters Madison and Molly and dog Bella. Welcome back to the ARTS podcast! In this episode, Kimberly Han and I talk about her journey of moving to LA to pursue directing seven years ago, and the realization of one of her biggest dreams this year - the creation of her film Champion. Champion, a story inspired by her own personal experiences as a daughter of immigrants, is about how 9-year-old Korean girl seeks to rebuild a sense of community and mend her broken heart, after moving to California without her "goose father" who stayed behind to make money for his family. In our conversation, we also explore how the creative journey is like for Asian immigrants, as well as the themes behind Champion - and our own personal coming-of-age stories of anguish AND self-reliance while growing up. Prepare for your heart to be seen and touched
'The ultimate outsider creates a global community through a passion for writing.' In film or book publishing this sentence would be called a logline, a brief (usually one-sentence) summary of a television program, film, or book that states the central conflict of the story.Today's guest is Collin Lieberg a screenwriter, creative executive, and world traveler. He has spent many years living abroad and feeling out of place, so he writes about outsiders struggling to fit in. He has a background in academia, management, marketing, and retail that all inform his characters and stories. Collin is the Creative Executive for Cobalt Knight, a genre production company focused on telling feature, series and comic book stories about the human condition with touches of social commentary. For the past two years he has run a monthly #VirtualHappyHour (#VHH) Zoom mixer to connect with friends and make new connections. Get in touch at collin.lieberg@gmail.com.
