As the news spreads about access to BBC Sounds being blocked outside the UK, we hear more of your comments on the issue. Andrea Catherwood speaks to Radio Cymru reporter Alun Thomas about what these changes will mean for Welsh speakers living abroad. A recent episode of Radio 4's Inside Health about hearing loss intrigued listeners - and then baffled those experiencing hearing loss themselves by including a section that was particularly difficult to hear. After listeners criticised a recent Archers storyline about Linda Snell fasting for Ramadan, we hear from the people who found it enlightening and uplifting. And what did Martha Kearney do after Today? Well, she's been talking to more public figures - but this time, it's all about their personal connections to nature. Two listeners, Christine and Kate, review her series This Natural Life for our VoxBox. Martha joins Andrea to respond to their thoughts.Presenter: Andrea Catherwood Producer: Pauline Moore Assistant Producer: Rebecca Guthrie Executive Producer: David PrestA Whistledown Scotland production for Radio 4
Merry Christmas! In the first of our festive specials of “How Do You Say That?!” we've delved into the archive - and pulled out an episode with voice actor and impressionist Darren Altman from November 2023 - but we thought you'd like to hear it UNEDITED, warts-and-all! It's about 20 minutes longer than the usual podcast, but there are some real gems in there, and all the bits you don't usually hear before we start recording, after we finish, and when we mess up too!Get involved! Send your ideas for the podcast to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1Creativity is an aching need for self-expression and a longing for meaning. That's why the best creatives I know pull from their sense of childlike wonder, which means, breaking free of mediocrity and taking a deep dive into who you were, who you are, and who you hope to be. So it asks...no, demands...that you let go of your artificial boundaries and rediscover all your wonderful weirdness—the experiences that make you different from everyone else on the planet. And when does life ask that of you? Or, when was the last time you could do that without feeling judged? That's why creativity is such a rush. It's the undeniable truth of who you are being recognised and embraced. She started building tube amplifiers while still in college at Columbia University. EveAnna quickly escalated through the first company as a design assistant and quality control tech, while also creating new analog systems for the young company that helped organize its nascent business structure. By the time she and David Manley branched out and formed Manley Laboratories, Inc. in 1993, EveAnna was managing the entire factory, and by the late 1990's with David Manley's departure, EveAnna took over engineering management and new product creation. You can see her flair for artistic visual expression start with her first two solo projects, The Manley VOXBOX® and Manley STINGRAY which are still in production today having sold thousands worldwide. Manley Labs does extensive business with China, and in this episode not only do we get a real-life tutorial on how tariffs actually affect business, she shares with John & Heyang her favorite Tom Jones song.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/desblokeate/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/desblokeate/support

Julia Joseph is a singer, songwriter, arranger and performer based in New York City. Her work is very ecclectic, the common thread being her distinct, warm alto and her total commitment to anything she does. She sings with her soul, she lights up the room, she tells a story and she keeps her audience entranced. Having been compared to Phoebe Snow, Joni Mitchell and Karen Carpenter, Julia's writing incorporates jazz, folk, blues and gospel elements with rich vocal harmonies and intelligent, heart-felt lyrics that explore universal sentiments. A pro on stage and in the studio, Julia's voice can be heard on the NBC hit show, 30Rock and in the infamous, NYC based Loser's Lounge. She recently participated in the recording and live performance of Red Hot + Arthur Russell. She is also a core member of a private event and party band The Loyales*. Julia's debut album, Hush, won the 2008 Independent Music Award's popular vote for Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Album; a debut complimented by her inspired and well-honed live act. *For more info on Julia's session and collaborative work, please visit the VOXBOX.
