Grief is not just an emotional experience—it transforms the body, mind, and soul. In this episode of The Grief Alchemist Podcast, Adele Anderson welcomes Jan Janzen, who shares her deeply personal journey through grief after the loss of her husband. Despite a lifetime of personal development, Jan was unprepared for the overwhelming and unpredictable nature of grief. She describes the unexpected emotional collapse she experienced long after her husband's passing and how she struggled with feelings of isolation, anxiety, and physical distress before discovering somatic healing. Jan recounts how attending The Bridge retreat became a turning point, helping her process grief in a way she never thought possible. Through somatic exercises, guided reflection, and intentional shifts in her emotional state, she found a pathway to healing. Now, having integrated these practices into her daily life, she has rediscovered joy, creativity, and a renewed sense of purpose. This episode sheds light on how grief is stored in the body, why healing requires more than intellectual understanding, and how transformation is possible for those who feel stuck in their sorrow. Key Takeaways: Grief is not a linear process, and delayed onset grief can emerge long after the initial loss. Physical symptoms of grief, such as restlessness, sleeplessness, and claustrophobia, can be overwhelming and often misunderstood. Somatic practices, including structured movement, breathwork, and nervous system regulation, can shift the emotional state and bring relief. Healing from grief requires more than knowledge; it requires engaging the body in the process of release. Returning to joy—whether through music, art, or movement—signals the deep integration of grief and healing. · Grief isn't just emotional; it's stored in the body. The way we communicate with someone who is grieving can significantly impact their experience. Not always asking direct questions but offering support through statements aligns with effective communication strategies in grief support. 1. **Avoiding Direct Questions:** Many people, when faced with grief, find it challenging to express their emotions in response to direct questions like "Are you okay?" While the intention behind such questions is often genuine concern, it can be overwhelming for the grieving person. They may not want to burden others with their pain or may find it difficult to articulate their feelings in the moment. Research in grief psychology suggests that open-ended statements, like the one you mentioned, can create a more comfortable space for the grieving person to share when they are ready. 2. **Expressing Thoughtfulness:** Saying, "I've been thinking about you, so wanted to reach out to say hello," communicates care and thoughtfulness without putting the grieving person on the spot. It acknowledges their presence in your thoughts and offers an invitation for them to share at their own pace. This approach is aligned with the concept of creating a supportive environment for the grieving individual to open up when they feel ready. 3. **The Impact of Empathy:** Empathy plays a crucial role in effective communication with someone who is grieving. Instead of focusing solely on their emotional state, express empathy by acknowledging the challenges they might be facing. Phrases like "I can't imagine what you're going through, but I'm here for you" convey support without requiring the grieving person to provide specific details. 4. **Studies on Communication in Grief:** Studies in grief communication have emphasized the importance of active listening and providing a non-judgmental space for the grieving person. A study published in the "Journal of Counseling Psychology" highlighted that expressions of empathy and understanding are more beneficial than probing questions. 5. **Non-Verbal Communication:** Beyond words, non-verbal communication is also crucial. Simple gestures like a gentle touch, maintaining eye contact, or offering a hug can convey support without the need for words. Non-verbal cues often speak louder than verbal expressions and can provide comfort to the grieving individual. In summary, your approach of reaching out without directly asking probing questions aligns with the principles of empathetic communication in grief. Creating a safe and supportive space allows the grieving person to share their feelings when they are ready, fostering a more meaningful and healing connection. Segment 2: The Power of Asking Questions One of the keys to unlocking new possibilities in our grief journey is by asking questions. Certainly, employing curious questions can be a powerful way to navigate conversations with someone experiencing loss. These questions are designed to show genuine interest, foster understanding, and open up avenues for the grieving person to share their feelings. Let's explore five curious questions that can facilitate meaningful conversations: 1. **Question of Reflection:** - "I've been thinking about you and wondering if there are any particular memories or moments that bring a sense of comfort or warmth when you think about your loved one. Would you be open to sharing any of those memories?" This question invites the grieving person to reflect on positive aspects of their relationship with the departed and provides an opportunity for them to share cherished memories. 2. **Question of Expression:** - "Everyone experiences grief differently, and I'm curious about how you've been expressing or coping with your emotions. Is there something that has been particularly helpful for you during this time?" This question encourages the grieving individual to express their emotions and share coping mechanisms, helping both parties understand the unique ways grief is being processed. 3. **Question of Support:** - "Navigating loss can be an emotional journey. Are there specific ways you find support or moments when you feel most supported by those around you? I'm interested in understanding how I can be there for you." This question demonstrates a genuine desire to provide support while recognizing that each person's needs may differ. It opens up a conversation about the type of support that would be most beneficial. 4. **Question of Remembrance:** - "Grief often brings a mix of emotions, and sometimes it's challenging to find the right balance between remembering and moving forward. Have there been moments where you found comfort in remembering your loved one, or is it a process you're still navigating?" This question acknowledges the complexities of the grieving process, encouraging the individual to share their experiences with remembering their loved one and finding a balance between honoring the past and moving forward. 5. **Question of Future Narratives:** - "As you navigate this journey of grief, have you discovered any unexpected sources of strength or resilience within yourself? I'm curious about the personal insights or changes in perspective that may have emerged." This question invites the grieving person to explore their personal growth during the grieving process, emphasizing the potential for resilience and strength that can arise from challenging circumstances. By incorporating these curious questions into conversations, we can create a supportive and understanding environment that allows the grieving person to share their experiences, emotions, and insights on their own terms. In speaking with many clients navigating their losses, I have noted a theme. Friends and family often struggle to communicate, and the griever finds themselves consoling others, rather than receiving the support. Segment 3: Surrendering to the Experience In Michael Singer's book, we find the idea of surrendering to the flow of life. How can we apply this principle to our grief? Surrendering doesn't mean giving up; it means letting go of resistance and allowing ourselves to be fully present in the experience. We'll delve into the transformative power of surrender and how it can bring a sense of peace amidst the storm of grief. As we wrap up this episode of Good Grief Relief, let's remember that preparedness, curiosity, and surrender are not just concepts but tools we can use to navigate the challenging terrain of grief. By embracing these principles, we open ourselves up to healing and growth. Thank you for joining us today on Good Grief Relief. If you found this episode helpful, please share it with someone who might benefit. Remember, in the journey of grief, there is hope, strength, and the potential for profound transformation. Identifying Core Values: Explore the core values that have guided you through challenging times. These values often serve as anchors during storms, providing a sense of purpose and direction. Setting Empowering Goals: Set goals that align with your aspirations and values. Goal-setting provides a roadmap for utilizing inner strength in constructive ways. Whether these goals are personal, professional, or related to well-being, they serve as tangible markers of resilience and growth. 10. In essence, reflecting on the inner strength one can possess after enduring life's most challenging storms is about weaving a narrative of triumph over adversity. By exploring past experiences, identifying strengths, and fostering a growth-oriented mindset, individuals can gain a profound appreciation for their own resilience and the transformative power within you Segment 2: The Growth Within Pain Exploring the profound learning amid life's darkest hours involves recognizing the transformative power that can emerge from adversity. It emphasizes that growth is not a separate entity from pain but often a direct result of facing and navigating through difficult experiences. Understanding the Nature of Growth: Start by fostering an understanding that growth is a dynamic and ongoing process, and it often occurs in response to life's challenges. This perspective challenges the notion that growth is solely the product of positive experiences, highlighting that profound learning can emerge from the crucible of hardship. 1. Acknowledging the Complexity of Emotions: I encourage individuals to explore the complexity of their emotions during difficult times. By acknowledging the range of feelings, including pain, grief, anger, and fear, individuals can start to see these emotions as part of the learning process. Emotions, even the challenging ones, can be powerful catalysts for self-discovery and growth. 2. Extracting Wisdom from Experience: Reflect on the specific lessons learned during your darkest hours. This might involve understanding resilience, discovering inner strength, developing empathy, or gaining a new perspective on life. By extracting wisdom from the depths of experience, individuals can find meaning in your journey. 3. Embracing the Uncomfortable: Growth often requires stepping out of one's comfort zone and confronting discomfort. Just as a seed must crack open for a plant to emerge, you may need to face discomfort and pain to uncover new aspects of themselves. Encourage a mindset that sees discomfort as a gateway to your own evolution. 4. Cultivating Resilience: Resilience as the ability to bounce back from adversity. When we face life's darkest hours this can be an opportunity to cultivate and strengthen resilience. Resilience is not about avoiding pain but about developing the capacity to navigate through it with grace and adaptability. 5. Shifting Perspectives: I encourage a shift in perspective that views challenges as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable obstacles. This reframing allows one to approach difficulties with a mindset that actively seeks to learn and extract meaning from the experience. 6. Finding Silver Linings: Identify silver linings or positive aspects that may have emerged from challenging situations. While it's essential to honor the pain, finding elements of positivity can contribute to a sense of hope and purpose. This doesn't negate the difficulty but provides balance to the narrative. 7. Highlighting Personal Evolution: I share a personal evolution and growth that have arisen from mine and others experiences with adversity. Real-life stories of individuals who have turned their pain into sources of strength, resilience, and wisdom can serve as powerful inspirations for those navigating their own dark hours. 8. Encouraging Self-Reflection: Foster a habit of self-reflection, so you can contemplate your experiences, emotions, and insights gained from challenging times. This ongoing reflection contributes to a continuous process of learning and growth, reinforcing the idea that growth is a journey, not a destination. 9. Valuing the Journey Itself: Remember life is a continual journey of growth amid life's darkest hours is as significant as the destination. It's not about reaching a point where all pain disappears but about evolving and adapting continuously. Encourage an appreciation for the resilience and wisdom gained throughout the journey. **Adele Anderson: Empowerment Speaker and Grief Resilience Expert** Adele Anderson, an NLP Trainer, Homeopath, and Life and Death Coach, is a captivating speaker and grief resilience expert with a unique perspective on navigating profound loss. Cultivating a Positive Mindset: I encourage a shift in perspective towards a more positive mindset. This doesn't mean denying the pain but rather acknowledging the potential for growth and transformation that can arise from adversity. Encourage the development of a hopeful and optimistic outlook. 8. Seeking Professional Guidance: While personal exploration is crucial, professional support can be instrumental in the healing process. Encourage individuals to seek therapy or counseling to explore their emotions in a safe and guided environment. Find a safe space to express and confront your emotions while recognizing the strength that resides within. Here's an exploration of this process: 1. Validating Emotions: Start by acknowledging and validating the depth of the grief experienced by individuals. your emotions are valid and that it's okay to feel the weight of the pain. Create an atmosphere where there is no judgment, allowing for an open and honest expression of feelings. 2. Creating a Safe Environment: Provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment individuals to share their thoughts and emotions. This may involve one-on-one conversations, group discussions, or therapeutic settings. The goal is to make you feel heard and understood without the fear of being dismissed or criticized. 3. Encouraging Self-Reflection: I invte you to reflect on your strength and resilience. Explore moments in their past when you faced challenges and overcame adversity. This reflection can serve as a foundation for recognizing the inherent power that lies within, even in the face of profound grief. 4. Highlighting Personal Growth: Emphasize the potential for personal growth that can emerge from navigating grief. Share stories of individuals who have transformed their pain into strength and resilience. Consider the possibility of growth amidst your struggles. 5. Empowering Through Language: Use empowering language that focuses on strength, courage, and resilience. Instead of framing grief as a weakness, highlight the inherent power that comes from facing and processing challenging emotions. Language plays a significant role in shaping perspectives, and positive affirmations can contribute to a more empowering mindset. 6. Identifying Coping Mechanisms: Identifying healthy coping mechanisms that can help you navigate the grieving process. This might include engaging in creative activities, connecting with supportive communities, practicing mindfulness, or seeking professional counseling. Empower yourself with tools to manage the emotional burden. 7. Exploring Meaning and Purpose: explore the deeper meaning and purpose that can arise from the grieving process. This doesn't diminish the pain but frames it within a broader context of personal development and growth. This helps you find meaning in their experiences can be a powerful motivator for reclaiming inner power. 8. Fostering a Sense of Control: Grief often brings a sense of loss of control. Empower yourself by focusing on aspects of your life that you can control. This might involve setting small goals, establishing routines, or making decisions that contribute to a sense of agency and autonomy. 9. Supporting Professional Guidance: Acknowledge the value of seeking professional support in the journey of reclaiming inner power. Encourage individuals to consider therapy or counseling as a resource for understanding and navigating the complexities of grief with the guidance of trained professionals. In essence, acknowledging the weight of grief and inviting individuals to reclaim their inner power involves a delicate balance between recognizing the pain and fostering a sense of resilience. It's about creating an environment that honors the journey of grief while instilling hope and empowerment for the future. Welcome to Good grief Relief, This is Adele Anderosn and I offer a metaphor today: choosing Joy in the Fields of Life." Metaphor of the grain fields and the concept of joy amidst life's unpredictability. Segment 1: Life's Unpredictable Nature Parallels between life's unpredictability and the shifting seasons of the grain fields. Possibly it makes us feel vulnerable or are we invincible divine beings. Could moments of abundance be our divine nature verses scarcity our view of death as a final moment in life. Segment 2: Choosing Joy Amidst Adversity As a sturdy grain stalks blows in the wind and stands tall in the storm, we too can become resilient with the idea of choosing joy as a response to life's challenges. Not rose colored glasses, but recognizing that life is gritty, and at tims unpredictable, choosing joy doesn't negate challenges but allows for finding beauty amidst adversity. Segment 3: Cultivating Joy and Gratitude As we must nurture the field to create a bountiful crop, we can also nurture our souls through positivity and gratitude. Joy can become a habit, one we use daily in seeking joy in life's simplest moments and cultivating a positive perspective. Segment 4: Joy as a State of Being Joy as more than just an emotion, but a way of perceiving life. Te power individuals have in infusing their days with joy, irrespective of external circumstances. Segment 5: Embracing the Present and Letting Go I encourage you to honor life's percieved fleeting nature and savor each moment akin to the grains in the fields. And in doing so, we are intentionally living in the present and letting go of worries about the future and regrets from the past. Conclusion and Encouragement I wish you a fabulous day, and encourage you to choose joy in your life. The practice of embracing life's blessings and finding happiness within is highly rewarding. “You were never meant to live in emotional pain. It is there as a sign that we need to take care of ourselves, but it's not a place you want to live for long.” — Adele Anderson When Adele Anderson miraculously survived a plane crash, she had this deep desire and strong urge to figure out how. Adele openly shared her near-death experience: from realizing that a catastrophe just happened, doing your body checklist, running out of oxygen, and even going through life flashbacks in literal seconds. What's mesmerizing about Adele's story is that the moment her body began separating from her consciousness, her perspective changed which led life to literally flash in front of her eyes from her birth until her death. She was snapped into action when a very specific memory of a movie scene she watched long ago reminded her of how to escape from a plane; and from there, she was able to survive. Looking back at it, Adele's curiosity was sparked as to how her brain understood what it had to do with very little to no oxygen in her system. She shares how it is a phenomenal amount of information we acquired throughout our lifetime. This experience made her realize that life exists beyond what we know or appears tangible. With that wisdom, Adele was able to connect the dots from life to death. Grief comes in many shapes and sizes but it is a part of us already and the best advice to cope with it is by giving yourself some grace. After all, grief is the price we pay for deep love. Losing someone is not losing love; in fact, love still exists within our minds, bodies, and souls. It is just what's tangible that is lost. Wellness Nuggets: ● In tackling grief, put some perimeters on what is coming up to know the possible triggers ● Keep yourself well by going to bed early, eating healthy, and basically having habits that take good care of you ● When we are suffering from grief, our immune system is compromised so even a negative thought can interrupt our immune capacity for 6-8 hours ● Speak to your brain like it was a two-year-old ● Think of grief as a big wound. When you pull the bandaid off, it still weeps. When you touch it, it hurts. But when we look at something like a physical cut on our body, it heals from the inside out We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: As a survivor of a plane that crashed and flipped in a river, Adele knows now that anything is possible when we make the right choice at the right time. But that harrowing experience didn't help her when she became a widow. Grief deeply affected every aspect of her life, decisions, communication, organization, sleep, coping and happiness. While grieving, Adele discovered and used high-quality supplements to optimize body health. NLP to empower her decisions, balance emotions and relieve stress, and developed a spiritual practice that deepened her connection, strengthened her purpose and created a deep sense of peace and calm. Sandra considers herself to be all things spiritual, then clarifies she is not a part of any religious body. As a spiritual councillor, nondenominational minister, actor, singer, shaman, wedding officiant and more, she sees her role as a spiritual councillor that supports one quest to find and experience a deeper meaning in life, death, and marriage ceremonies. She is vibrant, kind, articulate, fashionable, quick to smile, has an open heart filled with wisdom and a free spirit. She lives in NYC with her husband and has emersed herself in many spiritual pathways through life. And found that acting was one way for her voice and expression to be heard. As a child, she recalls being highly intuitive, having visions, invisible playmates and many metaphysical abilities and experiences. As a child, her parents were open to her spiritual experiences, but at some point, she says, these experiences became less acceptable and were placed under a blanket, hidden from sight. Growing up in a faith-based family, Sandra left her church at 18, finding different pathway for bringing her voice and truth into the world. But as in life, there are pivotal moments. Sandra's arrived with her Mother's Cancer diagnosis. As they prepared for her passing, and eventually her death, Sandra entered her calling, to become a non-denominational minister. Sandra recalls the pain of losing her mom. They had been deeply connected and her Mom was her biggest supporter. As Mother and daughter prepared for death, they spend many special and unique times together, creating and writing her obituary, choosing favored songs that would be song and designing her Mom's funeral, a true tribute to her mom's life. As a survivor of a plane that crashed and flipped in a river, I know now that anything is possible when we make the right choice at the right time. But that harrowing experience didn't help me as I became a widow. Grief deeply affected every aspect of my life, decisions, communication, organization, sleep, coping, and happiness. I had so many tools at my disposal, but I needed more. Relief came in the form of connection. As an NLP Trainer and Grief Coach, I serve leaders who require strategies for coping in life, not just influencing productivity and bottom line. Yes, leaders require a cool head, excellent communication skills, behavioural change processes, motivational tools that can transcend real or imagined self-limitations of their team, even when they grieve. But more than that, to create harmony for themselves and their family, as well as their teams. NLP training or certification provides them with enhanced integration of mind sciences; neurology, psychology, cybernetics, linguistics and systems theory. Grief Coaching builds an inner bridge, combines science and spirit. Connection, inner safety, grounded in compassion, understanding and relief. Adele Anderson survived as a passenger on a small plane that crashed a river when she was only 27 years old. This near death experience had a profound effect on the direction of her life. She discovered NLP a few years later and is now an NLP Trainer, teaching others effective life skills for coping, removing emotional pain and updating outdated beliefs and behaviors. Our discussion includes the critical role of gratitude and mindset, and how we can learn to better communicate with our kids using NLP techniques. Adele uses these techniques during our interview and I was surprised at how effective they were to help me better understand NLP itself. Surviving a plane crash at age 27 after being trapped upside-down in the water, out of breath and time, changed Adele Anderson’s life forever. She is a testimony that, even in life’s most difficult circumstances, we still have the ability to make choices. As an NLP Coach and Trainer with 20+ years practicing Natural Medicine focusing on the mind-body connection, Adele believes humans are wired for happiness and, as we step past our self-limiting beliefs, each of us has the capacity to awaken that beacon. About the Guest: At 27 Adele survived a plane crash. Trapped upside-down in water, her life flashed in front of her mind. Moved through her death, inside her mind... she knew in that moment, she was out of breath and out of time. When her mother’s cry shot through her mind, she snapped back into her situation. She was drowning, in a plane that had crashed and overturned in water. At that moment, she consciously chose not to die. That life experience forever changed her perception; that choice exists even in life’s most dire circumstances. She now knows that life always offers us more than one possible future. We make choices every minute, which then focuses, a specific probability, to become possible. Why our inclination often takes the first option? Do we think it is easier? The option that appears easier is typically passive (unconscious) based on subconscious behavior & self-limiting beliefs. This could explain why we often do or accept things not in our best interests. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Since that fateful day, Adele has made it her life mission to understand the mind, conscious choice, empowerment, and to teach others how to prime their mind for infinite possibility. For 20+ years She has practiced Natural Medicine, focusing on the mind body connection. She believes our choice to create the life we want for ourselves is achievable, and neuroscience gives us the tools to remove the obstacles opening our mind to infinite possibilities. Adele Anderson, life coach, destiny coach, and neuro-linguistic programmer, talks about her passion for helping others and the transformative work she engages in with all her clients. Adele provides an overview of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and shares her insights about how it can help to change neuropathways in the mind, to learn and accelerate learning, and actually install the ‘excellence' of others. She explains the science behind NLP and cites examples of groups of people who have utilized NLP to improve performance and increase learning. As she explains, our minds take it all in… all the emotions, and external stimuli. Adele talks about the kinds of trauma that she sees in her clients and how she uses the process of NLP to bring healing and resolve. Adele believes in the power of positive movement, moving your life forward into your destiny so that you can fulfill your dreams and meet your goals. Adele provides a safe, supportive and holistic environment that allows her clients to find a path that works for them. The coach and NLP expert explain neural pathways and how they function. As she states, NLP provides hundreds of ways we can engage with the mind to rewire neural pathways that are interrupting our ability to be happy, move forward in life, to reduce stress, etc. As she explains, our minds take everything at face value, and through the work individuals can make significant changes, helping the mind to see things through a new lens so to speak. Adele explains the methods that she uses. She explains how she works with her clients to create physical identifications of traumas in the mind, and then change them through a meditative process that allows for transformations.

We also discussed how the body is your subconscious mind and the value of asking what your body is trying to tell you. Although no one likes to feel stuck, Heather and I identified some of the benefits of using that “stuck moment” to uncover beliefs that are no longer working for us in order to heal and move forward. If you've ever wondered about the interplay of our thoughts, feelings, actions, and now bodies, this is the episode for you! Tune in! For the full show notes, click here! Maslow took us through the natural evolution of our mind. yes@lifecoachadele.com And then others followed and refined the stages of stability and growth needs we will find ourselves flowing in and out of. And sometimes it can be painful. When life throws us a curve, knocks us off balance. But there are natural and neuroscience tools that ease us through these hick-ups. Understanding why we behave the way we do and embracing the process of illumination. I call these messages sacred, as they give us n opportunity to grow and become who we really are meant to be. Living our values, principles and moral virtues. Aligned with our passion and purpose. Embracing our natural and sacred gifts. we can live in harmony with ourselves. Adele Anderson bio: At 27 I survived a plane crash. Trapped upside down in water, out of breath, out of time, I chose not to die. I know now that life always offers us more than one possible future. We make choices every single minute, which focuses a specific probability to become possible. Why do we often take the first option? Do we think it is easier? The option appears typically passive, unconscious based on self limiting belief. This is why we often do things that are not in our best interest. Since that fateful day, I have made it my life mission. To understand the mind, conscious choice and empowerment. And now I teach others how to empower themselves and their choice. https://www.lifecoachadele.com https://www.facebook.com/Iamyourdestinycoach https:/twitter.com/NlpAdele https:/www.Linkedin.com/in/adeleandersondch https://www.instagram.com/lifecoachadele/
In this episode we talk about the third layer of psychological evolution. Self esteem and self worth. Why a healthy sense of self is integral to thriving in life. Why do we suffer from low self esteem? As children we may have lacked appreciation and acknowledgement for our accomplishments. So as adults we suffer from low self confidence, esteem and worth. Ultimately it interferes with our ability to transform into our true self our authenticity and see the amazing inner gifts we possess . How do we recognize low self esteem and self worth in ourselves? Some feel the victim. Others demonstrate aggressive behavior, become the bully. Others appear arrogant. There are many ways we compensate, try to fill the gap in our psychology. Maybe we are the attention seeker, searching for fame. All in efforts to get the acknowledgement we need to feel ok. But there is help, emotional mastery and overcoming low self esteem is possible. But it does take looking inside. And a coach can assist in moving you through these uncomfortable feelings with ease. And as you may already know, NLP is known as a tool of empowerment and change. Adele Anderson is a Homeopath, NLP trainer and coach. With a deep love for evolutionary psychology. Adele offers a wide range of self awareness and self mastery classes and sessions. Adele's Bio: I am in love with passion and purpose and neuroscience. Drawn to the power of the mind; as a survivor of a plane crash. What I experienced while drowning changed my life forever. I make sure I consciously live my values. Being clear about what I do and don;t want. Living a life that I love waking up to everyday! I thrive on learning, growing and expanding my awareness so I can embrace all that life has to offer. You will hear some of the same words being used. These words bypass the conscious thinking words. If you want to make something seem fun that they don't normally enjoy; use those words because this is how they describe fun activities. Magic words Stimulate a person’s imagination. “I don’t have to tell you because you already know” which bypasses the resistant critical thinking part of brain. Use words that activate their senses; (think of a lemon) or move their mind through time: before, beyond, during & after. “You would be surprised if…” “I know you want to bee seen as a kid who is (responsible, athletic, liked) “You probably already know what time I want you home tonight” Command words are task or operational words describe, explain, compare Now, (Stop) Use the child’s first and middle name “I really don’t know what you want me to do when you say (shut up). Imagine how things would change/what would happen if you didn’t say that to your mom? OR “imagine what life would be like if we didn’t have these kinds of conversations” “I don’t know” – drops your child’s resistance Adding “Really” is even stronger than “I don’t know” – “I really don’t know” Add because, also a power word, and link it to something important to them. “Imagine what it would be like to have harmony in our home because I know how much you love it when we are all happy and getting along” I don’t want to do my homework. When talking to your child, try not to use “Don’t.” Instead, use “imagine what school would be like if you studied for the exam and how easy it would be. I know you want to be seen as a kid who excels.” Power words and phrases Raise your words, not your voice ~ RUMI Strength comes in building patterns (combinations) of all categories. And think, 3 little words phrases The formula for this pattern is to use: adverbs and adjectives, + space and time+ cause and effect Do it now! Not before dinner Because I asked Examples of words to use are: naturally easily, unlimited, aware, realize, experience, before, after, expand, beyond, and, because - example: most easily, naturally unlimited, extremely natural, always easy, Thanks for listening! Adele Anderson, of the group Fascinating Aida, talks about her favourite choral music.
Adele Anderson is one of the mainstays of the comedy/satire trio Fascinating Aida. In the previous episode I talked to her about FA's uniqueness as three women writing and singing comic political satire for over 25 years. It's also quite widely known that Adele is a transsexual woman. Maybe that's not such a big deal nowadays, when people have seen many representations of trans women (real and fictional) in film and TV. In this interview I talk to her about the way it was received 25 years ago, and the TV dramas and films she's been involved with in the years since then. The songs you hear in this programme can all be heard in full on Adele's Myspace Page.
They are described as Britain’s sassiest, funniest, craziest musical comediennes. Imagine “Sex and the City” with harmonies. The Mail on Sunday said, “See them before you die or your life will have been meaningless”... Fascinating Aida have been collecting ecstatic hyperbole from reviewers for a quarter of a century and have an immensely loyal fan base. Yet, in Britain at least, musical comedy and satire is still not an area that all that many women have conquered. So what’s the secret of showbiz success and longevity for three women with a wicked sense of humour? Adele Anderson, who joined the Act a year after it was created in 1984, was very generous with her time for this interview in her hotel room, a couple of hours before going on stage at the Lowry in Salford. In fact we spent so much time that there's enough for two episodes. This first episode departs from the normal "Just Plain Sense" format to focus on the group itself, their music and Adele's career. In next week's episode Adele talks about press interest in her personal background and some of the TV and film projects she has appeared in. The songs you hear in this episode come from the albums "A Load of Old Sequins" and "It, Wit, Don't Give a S**t Girls", which can be purchased from FA's website or online from iTunes. Fans of FA may also be interested in this interview with Adele's colleagues, Dillie Keane and Liza Pullman
TIM, THOS and new presenter Becky Applin explore the world of pantomime, in particular focusing on the Barbican's production of Stiles and Drewe's Jack and the Beanstalk. Stiles and Drewe themselves join us for an extended interview about the show, and we also talk to Adele Anderson, Jonathan Cohen and Bury St Edmunds musical director and composer Annemarie Lewis Thomas.
TIM AND THOS get to grips with the two different Frankenstein musicals that have recently opened in New York - one by a certain Mel Brooks. We are joined by Adele Anderson to remember the life of her colleague, celebrated UK musician Russell Churney and Thos compares the authentic twenties musical comedy Lady Be Good to the pastiche of The Drowsy Chaperone that recently closed in the West End.
TIM AND THOS are joined by cabaret experts Paul L Martin and Sarah-Louise Young of Millionth Muse Productions to dissect the art of cabaret and where it relates to or diverges from musical theatre. We also talk to Fascinating Aida star Adele Anderson about her career.
JOIN Nick, Emma and our 10th new presenter, Martin Ball, for this week's show. We discuss everything from Martin's role in the London production of Wicked, to critics and The Drowsy Chaperone. We're also joined by cabaret star Adele Anderson, to discuss her role in the new Landor production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
