A people's history of Piccadilly: London's bustling meeting place for over a century. There's nowhere quite like Piccadilly Circus. From the moment they emerge, blinking from the underground station, visitors to Piccadilly Circus face a sensory onslaught. Its streets and alleyways merge into an intoxicating thoroughfare, with the power to propel an individual onwards to adventure, romance, or something more sinister. Ever since its iconic Eros statue appeared in 1893, the junction has been a vibrant meeting place, attracting visitors and pleasure-seekers from all walks of life: political plans and theatrical careers were hatched at its restaurant and café tables, lovers met below the statue of Eros, and to this day tourists pour out of its historic Tube to experience the bright lights of London's nightlife. Piccadilly explores how the area has been shaped by social and historical events—from female suffrage to world wars to technological advancements—and by its colourful cast of characters—from flower girls, shop assistants and sex workers, to film stars, Bright Young Things and conmen (and women). For many, the Circus has represented both a home from home and a brave new world, as campaigners, revellers, opportunists and romantics have all been drawn to Piccadilly's bright lights. This is the story of why Piccadilly Circus continues to mean so much to so many.

Find Your Mojo | Mindset | Entrepreneurship | Coaching | Strategy | Burn Out Prevention
I was super excited, possibly the most excited I've ever been, to be interviewing sales mindset coach, Ruth Alade, who teaches female coaches how to sell and get more “yeses”.Usually we've had experiences with sales in the past that have stuck with us, which isn't great. We've also heard people talk about sales in a negative light, and we don't want to become one of those “bad sales people”, like the Wolf of Wall Street. We don't want to be that salesperson that is trying to force something down people's throats. So we have all these beliefs like: I don't like sales, I hate sales, sales is bad. When we show up to calls with these thoughts, what happens is that we're not able to actually dig deeper, because we're going to start thinking that if we ask a certain question, we're going to come across as pushy.Or if I say this, maybe this person isn't going to like it. So we tiptoe and people please. And at the end of that call, guess what you're going to hear?“I need to think about it”, “It's too much money”,“I need to speak to my husband, partner, cat, goldfish” etc, you get the picture! When we come to calls with better-serving beliefs, we're able to dig deeper into their objections to really find out what their situation is, what the real truth is. The problem is that many times when people say that that they “need to speak to their partner”, that's not actually the real reason. Most coaches will be afraid to dig deeper to find out whether it is genuinely the real reason or not.But they may have just said it because they knew that if they say something like that, it works and you let them off.The first thing for digging deeper is to look at yourself, look inwards. Whatever objections that you're getting, you need to ask yourself, what do I believe about this? When people say that they need to think about it, what do you believe about it?Are you someone that always thinks about things too? Are you someone that always has to speak to their husband? Are you someone that always has to meditate on it first? Because if you are that kind of person, then of course you are going to agree with their objection. You need to look inwards and then decide if you want to carry on. I believe in these objections. And then also, if it is something that you're doing, you have to decide if it's something that you want to carry on doing for yourself. If you're someone that doesn't like spending money on things, when people tell you that it is too much money, then of course you're going to buy into it. So in that instance, decide if you want to carry on being someone that doesn't spend money, or if you want to change that. It's going to take you practicing whatever it is that you're choosing to believe about sales. Yeah. Whenever you find yourself going down that path of all these thoughts that aren't serving you, then you can decide, I am not going to go down this path.Ruth could tell you what to say and give you a script word for word, but it's not going to work because then you're going to show up with an energy oozing uncertainty, and people can sense that. So, the way to go about changing this starts with you changing the way you are thinking about sales.Always be curious with people's objections. When you get curious, you're giving them that chance to talk about their situation, to talk about the problem that they want to solve. You really need to take a good look at your money story. What are all the beliefs you have about money? You can choose to believe that money is everywhere and that people can create money. So, it's a constant work in progress. Always identifying those thoughts that aren't serving you and choosing what you really want.Otherwise your brain would just default to all those beliefs and thoughts that aren't going to take you anywhere.

Six firms have been sealed for failure to remit N42.68 million Personal Income Tax of their staff to the Lagos state government. This information is according to Seyi Alade, the Director, Legal Services of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). The Legal Director of the state revenue’s service said it was a decision that was long overdue. He disclosed that the affected companies defaulted in the area of tax liabilities from 2014 to 2016 and refused to pay even after an audit was conducted on them and a period of grace was extended to them. He noted that the LIRS had stopped shutting down companies which failed to remit their taxes in order to give room for voluntary compliance. However, a few still flouted the rules and chose not to pay. Alade went on to reiterate the commitment of the LIRS in ensuring that taxes were remitted to the state and promised to move in the direction of unyielding companies which failed to remit tax. He explained that remittances of Consumption and Personal Income Taxes must be adhered to, noting its importance as key drivers for the development of the state and the benefit for the people.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices. Yemi Alade is often referred to as the 'Queen of Afropop'! And as she told me in our conversation, "I'm living my dream. I'm awake and still dreaming!" Yemi came from a strict family (her father was a Police Commissioner) that emphasized the importance of education. Throughout school, Yemi loved singing and performing. In fact, In high school Yemi was part of a girl group called 'Naughty Spices'. But she never thought of becoming a singer until in 2009, at the insistence of her friend, she entered 'Peak Talent Show'. She was shocked to win the talent show - so shocked in fact that they had to call her name twice before she realized that she had won. But that was the moment she realized she had a talent, and that she could really make something out of it. She still went on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Geography from University of Lagos in 2010, but she decided to pursue her passion for performing. While she had moderate success in the music industry, it wasn't until 2013 and the leak of a single she was still working on with Producer Selebobo that her career really took off. That official video for that single Johnny has been viewed more than 96 million times on YouTube! Yemi talks about what it's taken for her to come the international superstar that she is. She also talks about the big dreams she has for the future - she recently performed at Lincoln Centre in New York, but she's dreaming of one day selling out Madison Square Garden! And with the way this lady is going, it won't be long before she does that! WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE Who were some of Yemi's musical influences growing up How Yemi describes her style of music Who she would most like to collaborate with Why the leaking of one of her singles was perhaps the breakthrough for her career What has been the most surprising aspect of fame Why she refers to herself as a 'King' and not a 'Queen' The best advice Yemi has ever been given What Yemi's definition of success is What she is most proud of having achieved so far The surprising thing that Yemi is most afraid of What she is most grateful for What Yemi's "I am…" is EPISODE LINKS Yemi Alade on Instagram Yemi Alade on Twitter Yemi Alade on Facebook Yemi Alade on YouTube
Real estate investor David Alade is betting the young millennials filling up apartments and condominiums in Midtown and downtown will eventually want a little more space to spread out, put down roots and possibly raise families in Detroit. Alade, a native of Queens, New York, says Detroit's high auto insurance costs and the quality of the city's public schools remain barriers to getting young families to buy single family homes in Detroit.
