With an Audible subscription, you can enter an immersive library of audiobooks, from mysteries to thrillers to true crime. We're talking about thousands of titles. Audible puts our collection of books to shame, and it also ensures you don't have to deal with crooked bookshelves like we do. They've also got thousands of podcasts from all sorts of genres — including yours truly's — not to mention theatrical performances and wellness program and all sorts of other audio experiences. Audible members can download or stream included titles at any time, and the Audible app lets you listen on the go. We love listening to audiobooks when we're doing chores around the house. We also enjoy playing audiobooks while we're out on a walk. Audible is a great way to immerse yourself in countless stories. It's a wonderful way to experience all kinds of books. And as a new member, you can try out Audible free for 30 days. This is a valuable membership that gives you access to so many new listening experiences. One novel we're looking forward to listening to is "A Wicked Snow" by Gregg Olsen, as narrated by Karen Peakes. It's all about a young crime scene investigator haunted by her mother's mysterious murder ... who one day receives an anonymous message. Just three words turn her world upside down. "Your mom called." We talked to Gregg on the show a while back, and we cannot wait to check that out. We love spine-tingling thrillers and mysteries, and we can tell that this one is going to be spooky in the best possible way. We'd also like to go back and re-read some Scott Turow legal thrillers, but we'll be doing so through Audible audiobooks this time, to get a whole new experience. Audible brings such atmosphere to the listening experience, with a focus on quality sound design, soundscapes, and excellent vocal performances. Well hello, everyone! We recorded this episode a few days after we returned from Obsessed Fest ‘23. … Though it's probably more accurate to say that we recorded this episode a few days after we *fled* Obsessed Fest ‘23. Eh, tomayto, tomahto.  We talk about Obsessed Fest quite a bit in this episode, but if you'd like more information about what happened, we have two recommendations:  First, we recommend listening to the latest episode of the podcast One Dry Kiss. Their episode, “Obsessed Mess, Mischief MisManagement and Amazing People and Podcasters,” is a firsthand account of what the weekend was like for attendees.  Second, we recommend listening to the latest episode of Rabia and Ellyn Solve the Case, titled, “About Damn Crime: Obsessed Fest.” In that episode, Ellyn Marsh, Rabia Chaudry, Joey Taranto, Maggie Freleng, Daisy Eagan, Amber Hunt, Harris Lane and Ashleigh Gibson share their experiences from the weekend. If you like receipts, this is the podcast for you. By the way, if you listen closely to this episode, you might hear Kristin cover a timber swindler. It's a troubling story about a man named Ralph Raines, who was exploited by a “psychic” named Rachel Lee. Over the course of ten years, Rachel took nearly everything Ralph had. And now for a note about our process. For this episode, Kristin read a bunch of articles, then spat them back out in her very limited vocabulary. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Psychic Fiend's Network” episode of American Greed “Sweetheart Swindle” episode of 20/20 “How a psychic stole millions of dollars from an Oregon timber heir,” by ABC News “Phony wife in sweetheart swindle, who bilked millions from Gaston tree farm heir, gets prison,” by Bryan Denson for The Oregonian “Daughter of Oregon psychic pleads guilty to helping bilk millions from Gaston tree farm heir,” by Everton Bailey Jr. for The Oregonian “‘The Sweetheart Swindle': Rich older bachelor targeted by family,” True Crime Daily  YOU'RE STILL READING? My, my, my, you skeezy scunch! You must be hungry for more! We'd offer you some sausage brunch, but that gets messy. So how about you head over to our Patreon instead? (patreon.com/lgtcpodcast). Our ballet horror movie mash up podcast, continues with BLACK SWAN (2010) and US (2019).In this final instalment of Ballet Macabre we're looking at Duality. To start off, host Emma Lister and guests Amber Hunt and Rose Martin give their insights as professional dancers on what is likely the best known film in this mini genre, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. Though the film won its star Natalie Portman an acting Oscar for her role as the dancer trying to master the dual roles of the white and black swan, how accurate is her portrayal? Do all top level ballerinas have disordered eating? Are all directors sexual predators? And what's up with the 32 fouettés in this movie? (If you don't know what those are, don't worry, we'll explain!)The final film in our mini series is Jordan Peele's Us, the most recent film we're covering. With a story that highlights the privilege a portion of society enjoys at the expense of others, we ponder whether ballet is truly elitist. We also acknowledge the proximity to wealth and glamour being a ballet dancer provides while not necessarily paying above minimum wage. And finish off the mini series by asking a big question: must we split ourselves in two to be a great dancer? Hey, Strange & Unexplained listeners!  We're off this week for the Memorial Day holiday, but didn't want to leave you with an empty feed, so we're featuring an episode from another Obsessed Network show, “Crimes of the Centuries” Crime is so commonplace that it takes something particularly shocking and horrifying to be labelled the “crime of the century.” Even so, many of these crimes have been forgotten or lost to history. Until now.  Each week, award-winning report Amber Hunt takes a deep dive into one of these crimes, telling forgotten true crime tales that you may not have heard before. The episode we're sharing today, “Chasing a Ghost,” tells the story of the murder of a small-town Pennsylvania police chief, which seemed like an open-and-shut case when it happened in December of 1980.  After all, whoever shot Gregory Adams appeared to have left a driver's license at the scene of the crime.  But investigators soon learned that the case would prove more challenging than expected, with a criminal who seemed to vanish into thin air for decades. We'll be back with an all new S&U episode next week, so in the meantime, check out “Crimes of the Centuries” wherever you get your podcasts.

Also know as the Reign of Terror, the Osage Nation Murders marks the murders of approximately sixty Osage Native Americans by those that wanted to take over their land and headrights to the lucrative oil it produced. Edgar Hoover’s FBI during the prohibition days.  Hoover announced to the world that his G Men had taken down a criminal mastermind, when in fact Ma was just the mother of criminal sons and got caught in the crossfire. To suggest a guest or request an interview, please visit us at TrueCrimeBinge.comFollow us on all forms of social media @TrueCrimeBingeToday's Sponsors:Amazon PharmacyAmazon.com/TCBRx- Prime members can save on prescription medication when not using insurance, and get FREE 2-Day delivery.Better HelpBetterHelp.com/Binge - Get 10% off of your first month of therapy.

He taunted police with postcards, letters, and voice messages, but no matter how many clues the madman gave them, they still couldn’t catch him. But then, in 2005, after 10 murders and more three decades of terrorizing the locals, they got him. Welcome our 4th guest to our November series on True Crime Podcast series, AMBER HUNT. As I learned, Amber is so much more than a podcaster, she is an award winning (hello, 2018 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting) reporter, an author, and someone who reminded me about ZINES! Amber’s reporting is thorough, well-respected and you will hear she blazed a path into journalism. She shares about her latest podcast, Crimes of the Centuries, on the Obsessed Network, and how every case she selects has historical significance above and beyond the story itself. Thank you, Amber for killing the small talk! In each episode of Crimes of the Centuries, award-winning journalist Amber Hunt will examine a case that’s lesser known today but was huge when it happened. The cases explored span the centuries and each left a mark. Some made history by changing laws. Others were so shocking they changed society. For episode three of the season, we're taking a long look at the power of the Podcasting Community. This communal idea, that we have the power to lift up the medium together, bubbled over in many of the interviews we conducted at PM19...so we’re dedicating an entire episode to discovering just how creators have embraced this connection. We'll hear from creators about some of the amazing interaction they experienced on the floor and at the parties in Orlando (2:08); and discuss the overall collaborative spirit and the contrasting attitudes of podcasters when compared with traditional media (8:02); plus: we’ll shine our Podcast Movement Sessions spotlight on veteran podcaster and co-founder of the She Podcasts community, Elsie Escobar! We'll speak with PM co-founders Jared Easley and Dan Franks about podcasting's low barrier of entry and how that has created a space for underrepresented voices to get their voices out about issues they care deeply for (2:40); we'll shine our PMS spotlight on a full circle moment from PM19 through a conversation with Ear Hustle co-creators Nigel Poor and Earlonne Woods--Ear Hustle could be the finest example of a podcast that grew into a force for change (8:04); finally, we'll hear from Leigh Pfeffer (host of History is Gay), the team behind Gay Future (Christina Friel and Connor Wright), Accused host/reporter Amber Hunt, and Tenderfoot TV's Christina Dana about how each of them consider themselves advocates through their respective podcasts (22:16). Investigative reporter Amber Hunt of the Cincinnati Enquirer built a news career that led her through Iowa and Detroit before Ohio, where in 2016 with colleague Amanda Rossman she created the hit podcast "Accused." Hunt had no idea how drastically her career would pivot to podcasting, as "Accused" shot to the top of the iTunes charts and spawned sequels. "Aftermath" is a podcast that roamed the nation to report on the lingering trauma that haunts victims of gun violence. Meanwhile, Hunt was part of the Enquirer team that won a 2018 Pulitzer for its local reporting on the heroin epidemic. Her LinkedIn bio lists her as the current CIA director. (You'll have to listen to the interview for the explanation.) She's also a true-crime author; her latest book, "Unsolved Murders," is due to be published this month. Hunt and her colleagues now are in production on season three of "Accused." Much of her work, Hunt says, is meant to encourage empathy so that a listener one day "maybe will stop and not pull the trigger." Next, the Crime Writers dish on who was the biggest villain in the case: one of the four remaining suspects OR the prosecutor who dodged Amber for a year. (Spoiler alert: three quarters of the panel is REALLY down on Gmoser - and not just because the "G" is silent.) We get a TRUE CRIME UPDATE from Lara about the official Army findings in the Bowe Bergdahl case. Were any servicemen killed looking for Bergdahl? The answer appears to be no...but then again, we don't really know what we're talking about. Kevin sends out love to all who sponsored his Walk-a-Mile In her Shoes event; yes, he finally completed that mile-long course in high-heeled shoes. In the Crime of the Week: A bucket list wish unlike any other. Grandma, Grandma, whatcha gonna do when they come for you? Interstitial music by Uncanny Valleys. Seventeen-year-old Tyler Hadley posted an invitation on Facebook: party at my crib tonight. But this was no ordinary house party in the Florida suburbs; it was a grisly crime scene. Later that night, Tyler revealed to his best friend, Michael, that he’d bludgeoned his parents to death with a hammer. Michael didn’t believe him…until he entered the master bedroom and saw the bodies of Tyler’s parents on the floor—murdered, beyond the shadow of a doubt. Mary Jo and Blake Hadley had always known their son had a dark side. He would make disturbing jokes about murder on Facebook. He apparently idolized the infamous Menendez brothers, who murdered their parents for money. But how could they have known their son was dead serious? What kind of person could kill his mother and father, throw a party with their bodies in the next room, and brag about it? This riveting account by award-winning journalist Amber Hunt takes you deep inside the mind of a troubled teenager—and behind the scenes of a true American nightmare…SEE HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ME-A Troubled Teen, His Devoted Parents and a Cold Blooded Killing-Amber Hunt
