December 31, 2010. Wilmington, Delaware. The body of 66-year old Jack Wheeler is discovered in a trash heap at the Cherry Island Landfill and his cause of death is determined to be blunt force trauma. Days earlier, Jack had left his residence in New York City to travel to Delaware and numerous eyewitnesses would report seeing Jack at numerous locations, displaying erratic behaviour which may have been caused by his struggles with bipolar disorder. It is believed that Jack's body was transported to the landfill after he wound up inside a dumpster which was picked up by a garbage truck, but even though investigators think his injuries are consistent with a homicide, the exact circumstances of how Jack died are unclear. Was Jack Wheeler actually the victim of foul play or was his death a tragic accident brought on by a mental health crisis? On December 28, 2010, 66-year-old Jack Wheeler, a veteran and highly respected Washington D.C. consultant, abruptly left Manhattan, telling his wife he had urgent business in D.C. But instead of heading to D.C., Jack ended up in Wilmington, Delaware. For days, he was seen wandering the streets, disheveled and confused. Then, on the morning of December 31st, Jack's body was found in a landfill. He had been the victim of a brutal murder, his body discarded in a dumpster and transported to the landfill by a trash truck. Jack's murder shocked everyone who knew him, but despite extensive investigations, the circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in mystery. It's been over 13 years since Jack was murdered, and investigators are still searching for the person or people responsible... Jack Wheeler was last seen on surveillance footage at 8:42 pm on December 30, 2010, walking away from the Nemours Building in Wilmington, Delaware. He headed southeast, toward the East Side of the city. At some point after that, Jack was murdered and his body was discarded in a commercial dumpster 16 miles away in Newark, Delaware. Jack P. Wheeler III was a well respected government worker. He retired in the mid 2000s after working some very high profile positions. But then, in retirement, he didn't fully retire, working as a defense contractor for the Mitre Corporation. While living between Delaware and DC, Jack and his wife spent the holidays in NYC, but before the New Year, Jack returned to work doing some last minute things. December 31, 2010. Wilmington, Delaware. The body of 66-year old Jack Wheeler is discovered in a trash heap at the Cherry Island Landfill and his cause of death is determined to be blunt force trauma. Days earlier, Jack had left his residence in New York City to travel to Delaware and numerous eyewitnesses would report seeing Jack at numerous locations, displaying erratic behaviour which may have been caused by his struggles with bipolar disorder. It is believed that Jack's body was transported to the landfill after he wound up inside a dumpster which was picked up by a garbage truck, but even though investigators think his injuries are consistent with a homicide, the exact circumstances of how Jack died are unclear. Was Jack Wheeler actually the victim of foul play or was his death a tragic accident brought on by a mental health crisis? Jack Wheeler was a Vietnam veteran, former white house aid, current cybersecurity consultant, and a devoted husband and father. He dedicated his life to serving and being useful. In fact, as soon as he returned from Vietnam he made it his mission to make sure those fallen veterans were remembered by aiding in the construction of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial. He also fought hard to rid the stigma associated with mental health and the veterans who do make it back home. Dr. Jack Wheeler has been described by The Wall Street Journal as “The Real Indiana Jones”. His lifelong accomplishments are so impressive that it's hard to pick just a few. Many would say that he is one of the greatest explorers of our time and the most interesting man of modern times. Dr. Jack Wheeler ~ The Real Indiana Jones At age 12 he was the youngest Eagle Scout in American history and travelled to the White House to meet President Eisenhower. At 14 he was the youngest person to summit the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. In 1979 he led an expedition retracing, for the first time in history, Hannibal's route over the Alps with Elephants. In 1981, he set the world record for the Most Northerly Parachute Jump: at 90°North, free-falling right onto the North Pole. And in 1996 he defeated both Vladimir Putin and his KGB bodyguard in arm wrestling in Kelly's Irish Times bar on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. After receiving his Ph.D. in Aristotelian ethics from the University of Southern California in 1976, Dr. Jack Wheeler wrote his first book, The Adventurer's Guide, the first how-to handbook to becoming an adventurer oneself. In the same year, 1976, Dr. Jack Wheeler founded Wheeler Adventures, later to become Wheeler Expeditions, with the goal of leading anyone with an intrepid spirit and a positive attitude on thrilling journeys all around the world. He has designed and led unique, first-class adventures to exotic locations all around the world. Ted always seems to have some sort of ulterior motive; in this case he's hoping Jack can take a look at his finances to make sure that his retirement portfolio will last the rest of Ted and his mother's life. Jack takes a look and notices that the financial plan in front of him may have some problems with it. It may be less a ‘set it and forget it' than Ted's financial advisor first told him. If Ted's portfolio can average a 9% return each year, theoretically they will never run out of money. Jack asks for a favor that Ted is reluctant to give. The Volatility Shield has a great plot, a nice twist ending, and a $5 million dollar crime that needs to be solved and Jack Wheeler is on the trail. We really can't decide. Either way, per his nametag, that police captain talking to Thea in the opening scene appears to be "Captain Pike," the captain of the USS Enterprise immediately prior to James T. Kirk. Lonnie Machin - A recurring villain from season four of Arrow, Lonnie Machin (the first baddie Oliver fights in season five) is better known to DC Comics fans as the antihero Anarky. Wild Dog - the first new member of Team Arrow version 2.0 was introduced to the audience, in the form of Wild Dog, a hockey mask-wearing, gun-toting vigilante who was inspired by -- and then shot in the kneecap by -- Green Arrow. The character first appeared in Wild Dog #1 in 1987, making him one of the first new superheroes created following Crisis on Infinite Earths. Created by Road to Perdition writer Max Allan Collins, "his super power is guns." Konstantin Kovar - Konstantin Kovar is the father of Leonid Kovar, better known as Red Star. In the comics, Konstantin originally wasn't a villain, but a relatively benign figure: an archaeologist who unearthed a nasty bit of business that gave his son powers. But Red Star himself, a loyal communist in the Soviet era, was occasionally a problem for the other heroes before he turned his life around. Eventually, he would become a bad guy in service of the Soviet Union -- something that might make him an interesting figure going forward in case Anatoly Knyazev's comic book destiny of becoming the cybernetically-enhanced "KGBeast" is to become part of Arrow's story. Tobias Church - Church's nickname is apparently Charon, the ferryman of Hades from Greek mythology. There is a Charon in DC Comics, although he shares basically nothing in common with this version. This is something that will be repeated again in the episode: choosing a historical/mythological meaning instead of a contemporary/comics one. Vigilante - "Mr. Ski Goggles," as Felicity calls him, is actually Vigilante, a DC Comics antihero created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. Perez provided the police sketch seen on Felicity's computer screen. Created during Marv Wolfman's time on the New Teen Titans, Vigilante in the comics is a former New York district attorney who's set on the path of justice after hsi family is killed by the mob. The CW describes him similarly: Chase is "Star City's new district attorney and an ally of Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who aims to clean up the streets through the legal system." Hub City and Bludhaven - According to Detective Malone, before he made his way to Star City, apparently he haunted Hub City -- the home of The Question -- and Bludhaven, the home of Nightwing. Ross Paints - Is that a little bit of free advertising for comic book artist and painter Alex Ross on the side of the truck Tobias Church and his goons are driving to their crime spree? Bertinelli - Whoever the head of the Bertinelli crime family is now that Helena has killed her father, he makes an appearance here -- only to be immediately killed by Tobias Church's men. ARROW NEWS: Arrow Showrunner breaks down all those new S5 characters (Date: 05 Oct 2016) Executive producer and showrunner Wendy Mericle gave an in-depth look into some of season 5's new characters in an interview with CBR.com. Included in the interview are discussions about Ragman, Artemis, Wild Dog, and Mr. Terrific. Mericle drops hints about Vigilante and Prometheus. When asked about Katie Cassidy, Mericle says, “Nobody ever really dies on ‘Arrow.'
