Original Air Date: April 2nd, 2026 The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of Trump v. Barbara regarding President Trump's executive order issued on his first day in office, which seeks to limit birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment by denying automatic U.S. citizenship to children born in the United States if their parents are undocumented or present on a temporary basis. Justices from across the ideological spectrum asked pointed questions about the order's interpretation of the phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" in the 14th Amendment and whether the executive branch can unilaterally alter long-standing practice and precedent on citizenship. President Trump attended the arguments in person, the first time a sitting president has done so. Lower courts previously blocked the order as unconstitutional. What will the Supreme Court's decision mean for the future of birthright citizenship in the United States? How does a quarterback go from playing for an 0-24 high school football program to competing professionally around the world? In this episode of The Gametime Guru, Shane Larson sits down with professional quarterback, offensive coordinator, and football entrepreneur Justin Sottilare. Justin shares his journey from a struggling high school program to playing for nationally competitive Division III powerhouse Wesley College. He entered college as one of eight quarterbacks on the roster, considered quitting, and ultimately worked his way into opportunities to contribute to a winning program. After college, Justin planned to become a teacher and football coach. Then an unexpected message opened the door for him to play professional American football in Europe. What he initially thought might be an April Fool's joke became an international playing career that took him to Germany, Australia, and other football programs around the world. Justin began playing professionally overseas in 2014, initially retired in 2021, and later returned to the field. He is now playing quarterback professionally again at 36 years old while continuing to coach and build businesses within the football industry. This conversation covers: How Justin remained committed during an 0-24 stretch in high school Why refusing to quit helped him move up the college depth chart What he learned inside an elite Division III football program How he received his first opportunity to play professionally in Europe What the talent, competition, and atmosphere are like in European football Why international football can create opportunities for players after college How Justin became an offensive coordinator while continuing to play quarterback Why he spent years developing repeatable systems for football coaches How he turned his football knowledge into the American Football Academy Why it took a full year for his business to generate its first revenue How Spiral XO helps coaches organize and manage their football programs Justin also takes us behind the creation of Spiral XO. Spiral XO is an all-in-one football coaching and program management platform created by experienced football coaches who understand how much time goes into running a team. The platform helps coaches manage digital playbooks, player quizzes, practice plans, scouting reports, scout cards, team communication, calendars, in-game analytics, equipment, player development, and other important parts of a football program. Spiral XO can also integrate information from film platforms such as Hudl and QuickCut, helping coaches reduce repetitive administrative work and spend more time preparing their teams and developing their players. One of its most valuable features automatically creates interactive player quizzes from a team's playbook. Players can draw their assignments, receive immediate feedback, and demonstrate whether they truly understand their responsibilities. Coaches can then review each player's answers without manually creating and grading every quiz. Whether you are an athlete, football coach, athletic director, entrepreneur, or sports fan, Justin's story offers powerful lessons about persistence, preparation, leadership, problem-solving, and building a career around something you genuinely love. Learn more about Justin's businesses: Explore Spiral XO and book a demo Visit the American Football Academy Connect with The Gametime Guru: Subscribe to the podcast for more conversations with athletes, coaches, entrepreneurs, and sports figures from around the world. New interviews provide a panoramic view of sports and the lessons that competition can teach us about life, leadership, and business. What part of Justin Sottilare's journey stood out most to you?

BEST OF: The Artemis II mission is paving the way for humans to land on the moon in 2028, and Mars further on down the road. Like most NASA missions and vehicles, the name is taken from mythology, with Artemis specifically chosen because of her relationship with Apollo. While conspiracy videos are a dime-a-dozen on the Internet, with every paranoid schizophrenic identifying supposed anomalies, there are some serious questions that are both recent and date back to 1969 that require asking. While most conspiracy videos are nonsense, Reid Wiseman and President Trump have seemingly stated that this will be the first trip to the moon, something that seems to confirm cryptic statements from Buzz Aldrin. In the recent movie “Fly me to the Moon,” a government gent attempts to fake the 1969 moon landing under a program called Project Artemis, a sort of new Capricorn I. Artemis II also launched on April Fool's Day. Considering that NASA has distributed petrified wood as moon rock samples and even deleted the original footage, more questions are left unanswered every year. Also, does NASA actually mean “deceive” in Hebrew and what could reverse speech from Bob Lazar tell us about space? There is also the possibility that we are being lied to with blatantly flawed space mission videos to convince us all it is fake in order to cover for a much more sophisticated space program.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Grant shares the real origin story—growing up around dirt bikes and construction with his dad, the moment a tensioned bungee cord sunk into his father's hand, and how that gap in the market stuck with him for years. After becoming a dad himself and feeling limited in the trades, he dug the old "Grant Strap" idea out of his phone notes during COVID and decided to actually build it. They dig into the messy reality of inventing and launching a physical product: the prototype phase with Home Depot parts and Alibaba springs, finding the right tension (about 120 lbs on the first model), avoiding the "mailbox money" invention scammers, making and selling the first ugly versions yourself, and why "people don't buy ideas—they buy products." Grant explains how the spring-loaded design works, the continuous polyester limiter band for safety and load rating, why it stays tight when loads shift or compress (coolers, cardboard, UTVs, Jeeps), and the three models (1", 1.5", and the 2" Pro with ratchet) that cover everything from college moves to Moab trailers. The conversation also covers the less glamorous side of business—patent threats that turned into nothing, copycats, why building a strong brand and customer service is better protection than a patent alone, working-load math that goes beyond just vehicle weight, all-weather durability, proper care for lifetime performance, pack sizes, lengths, and extensions. Grant talks about his Invent With Me podcast (helping inventors avoid the same pitfalls he hit) and what's next for TorkStrap: more trade shows, social content, and partnerships rather than diluting the core product. If you've ever cursed a ratchet strap in the rain, watched a load loosen on the highway, or thought about turning a simple idea into a real business, this one's for you. **Timestamps** 00:00 AI Sign Language for Deaf Viewers 00:41 Early Inspiration for Better Cargo Straps 02:36 Childhood Prototypes Reveal Market Gap 04:10 COVID Motivation to Launch Business 07:04 Inventor Licensing Pitfalls and DIY Sales 09:48 Prototyping, Sampling, and First Customers 11:52 Designing the Spring-Loaded Torque Strap 14:06 How Torque Straps Work and Their Benefits 22:48 Creative Branding Ideas for Torque Straps 24:05 Facing Competition and Patent Infringement 27:33 Defending the Product Against Patent Claims 28:12 Commitment to Quality and Customer Support 29:10 Competing with Copycats and Maintaining Reputation 30:05 Encouraging Ethical Purchasing 30:58 Patent Vulnerabilities and Enforcement Challenges 35:53 Introducing the Invent With Me Podcast 37:17 Calculating Load Ratings and Strap Sizing 44:28 All-Weather Durability and Maintenance 45:30 Spring Longevity and Packaging Options 47:02 Pricing Packs and Managing Expectations 48:04 Customizing Strap Lengths for Use 49:01 Strap Longevity and Care Guidelines 50:50 Subscription Idea Mentioned 51:04 Social Media Presence and Promotion 54:35 Upcoming Marketing Focus for Torque Strap 56:09 Shift from Engineering to Marketing 56:40 Humorous Product Concepts and April Fools 57:08 Closing Remarks and Podcast Promotion 57:42 Final Thoughts and Gratitude **Key takeaways** - Just pull—spring tension adapts to load shift or compression so you rarely (or never) have to stop and re-tighten. - Continuous polyester strap carries the actual load rating; the spring is the adaptive element with a limiter. - Three models cover light-to-heavy needs, including a 2" Pro with ratchet for vehicles and heavier cargo. - Lifetime warranty when treated with respect; average "cheap strap" life is ~2 years because people leave them in the bed. - Best protection in business isn't always the patent—it's being the guy who answers the phone, honors the warranty, and shows up every day. It's our April Fools' Episode, in which we explain how it is we know that things purported to have existed in the Middle Ages did not actually exist! It's late, for April Fools' Day, by any known calendar, since it's the end of June, and also the Bisley Boy, who did not exist, did his not existing after the Middle Ages, thereby qualifying this episode as a Special Episode. Anne explains the stupidity of the Bisley Boy Theory, which is, in short, that Queen Elizabeth I died at the age of 9 and got replaced by a little boy from Bisley, and Michelle, who found herself at the bottom of a rabbit hole consisting of Bram Stoker's book Famous Imposters, from 1910, in which Bram Stoker reveals WAY more of his concerns about gender identity than he probably meant to, and gives Anne even more reason to dislike Stoker, has a great deal of enjoyment and gets to explain to us the Chevalier d'Eon, who confuses Stoker even more than Queen Elizabeth.
On April 1, 1987, a radio DJ named Steve Cook put a song on the air at WTCM in Traverse City about a creature with the head of a dog and the body of a man that walks the north woods of Michigan and comes back every 7 years. He'd made up every piece of it over a single weekend as an April Fools joke, including the 7-year cycle and the 1887 origin date that people still repeat as history nearly 40 years later. What came back wasn't a laugh. It was a flood of calls from people who wanted to tell him what they'd already seen out there and had never told anybody. This is the latest stop on the backwoods cryptid road trip, and Brian works the documented history first. The 1887 lumberjack account that no newspaper from that year has ever been found to carry. Robert Fortney's 1937 encounter with 5 wild dogs on the Muskegon River, one of which stood up. The cabin door outside Luther that got clawed from top to bottom in 1987 and became the only physical artifact this legend has. And the Gable Film, the 8mm footage that surfaced in 2007, fooled a national television audience for 3 years, and was admitted as a hoax by a Michigan man named Mike Agrusa in 2010.Then the episode belongs to the encounters.A truck driver comes out of a curve on M-55 at 3 a.m. in November 2014 and finds something roughly 7 feet tall standing on the centerline, and it turns its head toward him and then walks off on two legs. Three campers in the Manistee National Forest spend a night in September 2011 listening to something circle their clearing two steps at a time, and in the morning the one who slept through it asks a question nobody wants to answer. Two cousins walking out of a Lake County hunting property in November 2021 realize something is matching their pace 40 yards off the two-track and stopping a beat late every time they stop. And on the morning of November 14, 2017, a retired tool and die man in a Missaukee County ladder stand picks up amber eyes 6 feet off the ground, chambers a round he never fires, and then sits up there another 20 minutes because climbing down feels worse. The buildings are the part Brian didn't expect. A family near Luther listens to something scratch their front door in October 2019, first at waist height and then at eye level, and then hears what comes out of the dark on the north side of the cabin. A farm couple in Osceola County watches one standing at the corner of the machine shed inside the yard light in 2005, tall enough that its head clears an 8-foot gable trim. A nurse alone at her family's camp northwest of Baldwin in November 2013 wakes to a growl 4 feet from her head with one wall in between, calls 911, and waits 40 minutes for a deputy.A county plow driver east of Lake City catches something with his wing blade in February 2012 and finds hair 4 feet up on the steel, and his foreman tells him it was a deer. A gas well operator pulls onto a pad in Antrim County at 2:30 a.m. in 2019 and watches something go over a 6-foot chain link fence with one hand on the top rail. And a deer camp in Kalkaska County comes out at first light in 2008 to find one buck on the ground with the knot still tied and the other one 60 yards back in the pines with the hindquarters gone.Michigan's Bigfoot record gets its own stretch of the episode, from the circus at Sister Lakes in June 1964, when hundreds of armed strangers drove into a rural township to shoot a monster, to the August 1965 roadside incident near Monroe that left 17-year-old Christine Van Acker with a black eye that ran in the papers.Brian also covers a Roscommon County hunter who watched something close to 7 feet tall walk away up a two-track on two legs during the 2016 firearm season, a fisherman standing on the Fox River before 5 a.m. in 1987, and a timber cruiser working a block in Menominee County in 1998 who had a rock come out of the canopy at him and found a track in a skid trail the next morning that he never photographed.Brian lays out what the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has said about all of this for decades, what Steve Cook has said about his own song for almost 40 years, and what two nights of driving the Baldwin and Luther corridor in the dark actually produced. The gang returns from its unforeseen hiatus to bring you, our beloved audience, the second film from our 2023 April Fools' episode to receive a genuine standalone episode, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. What may be surprising to hear is that this film actually predates the far more popular TV series—it essentially served as the series' pilot—so you can kind of see why the film was written the way it was, in a sense, if you know that none of the characters in the movie had ever been introduced before. It's charming in its own deeply early-2000's way, a fair bit of the movie makes no sense, and Sir Patrick Stewart absolutely devours the scenery as King Goobot V. One thing's for certain: we're the kids in America. Content warning: strong language.
