Press-Republican Editor-in-Chief Joe LoTemplio and Night Editor Ben Rowe get behind the mic for a special episode as they announce their plans to both depart from the paper on May 9. No, it's not an April Fools episode and yes, it's a bittersweet moment. But the pair take time to reflect on their careers on the paper and their hopes for the Press-Republican and journalism heading forward.
From its iconic appearance as the first card in the Tarot's Major Arcana to the many foolish characters we find in fiction and mythology, the Fool is much more than a mere idiot. Rather, the Fool signifies our willingness to step out into the void, take on risky adventures, and enter the chaotic tumult of this world. By seeing through systems of power and approaching life with a sometimes child-like simplicity, the Fool has long served as a check on authoritarian abuse, with jesters possessing the rare privilege of being allowed to mock and question the king, an energy we could use a little more of these days. This lecture was recorded live at MaybeItsFate in Louisville, KY on April Fool's Day 2025. We're finishing The God Who Weeps by Terryl Givens and Fiona Givens. This is the first book in a trilogy of Mormon theology and we want to leave room in the year to get through it all. What does today hold for us? We start with a long discussion on the pre-mortal existence, transitioning into existence, then ascending to perfection thanks to Mormon beliefs. We didn't realize until pretty late in the project that the 5 chapters of the book are structured around the different stages of the Mormon Plan of Salvation (PoS), but it become clear pretty early on in our discussion. All told, the book is a marker of modern orthodox Mormon belief: pray, pay, and obey. They even have an ultra-conservative take on abortion that makes the official stance of the church seem like bleeding-heart liberals in comparison. Then we talk about The Meaning of Life, a Monty Python movie from 1983 that has a much more healthy way of looking at the random cosmic soup that led to human existence. We wrap with some happy news about the success of a slightly higher tax in Massachusetts that raised a bunch of money for all the things for which taxes are used. We round out by going through some delightful listener mail from the April Fools episode! 2025 Show Notes Amendment: I love the setup we have here where on the first day of the month, we released our final ever TwoFer Tuesday, and now, here at the last day of the month, we re-release our first ever TwoFer Tuesday! It feels like a wonder twist on "bookends". As always when re-running early episodes, please excuse the atrocious production quality. One of my favorite things looking back on the early episodes of the show is how "different, yet the same" they are. From a sound quality perspective, the differences are night and day in every aspect. But in terms of show format and events, other than missing the now customary summary introduction, and the fact that they've gradually gotten longer over the years, it's the same darned show that it's always been. And what the early episodes lack in polish and finesse and technique and maturity, they somewhat make up for in youthful exuberance and wide-eyed optimism, and a simply innocent fun. You've heard the latest and greatest of TwoFer Tuesday this month, now hear the awkward first baby steps!....different....yet the same.... Lastly, I had toyed with the idea of doing three reruns this month - today's rerun, as well as the two highlighted April Fool's episodes: 2020's "Backtracks" (where all the tracks played in reverse), and 2024's "Parallels" (where all the tracks played over top of each other all at once). But I had procrastinated, and now it's the last day of the month, and it would simply obscene of me to upload three reruns in one day. So the compromise that I settled on was to include links to them here in the show notes, in case you wanted to revisit them (or perhaps experience them for the first time). So, here are the links, Backtracks first, then Parallels. In terms of production value, Backtracks is dramatically better than today's rerun, but also dramatically lesser than our current works, whereas Parallels is very close to our current level of production : https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e52-backtracks/ https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/ch-1-noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e83-parallels/ And now, the [otherwise unmodified] original episode shownotes! Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1 episodes, and not in any of the other channels, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. If this is what you want instead, here's the RSS: http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss NOTE: This episode had to be trimmed for the “Channel 1” feed to make it and Episode 3 both fit within the two hour limit for the month. For all of the middle ages, almost everybody believed that earlier in church history, there had been a pope who was, instead of being male, a woman, who met, alas, a Bad End. She wasn't there, as some people suspected then, and as we know now, but the story is so damn good it's hard to let go of. Whichever version of the story you're dealing with. Anne explains the different versions of Pope Joan and how we know she wasn't there, and Michelle is delighted by the vast amount of popular works telling her story. Musicals! No kidding! And too many novels to list.

If you know us, you know we love a good Spooktacular, which is why this year we really committed to the bit of renaming the pod Ear Tickler. You've been had! We are so sorry. This was our April Fools Spooktacular and it went Spooktacularly. This has gone on too long. We had more planned for it but life got in the way. The pod is not going to be called Ear Tickler at all, but instead, FUDGECAST. Why FUDGECAST? Well, FUDGE was our original name pre-pandemic and we plan on doing live shows under the name FUDGE again, so we want to tie it all in under one Umbrella. FUDGECAST, FUDGE, FUDGE & Friends etc. All Fudge, all the time. Now that we've underwhelmingly blown your mind, an important message specifically from Tim! Thanks so much for supporting the podand providing us with some of the funniest damn ideas to improvise too. We truly love doing the pod for you!At the start of the year, Dan took another hiatus to work on his show and raise a family and our editor and producer Matthew decided to step away to work a new job and make a cross country move. Damian works a full 9-5 which has just left me to schedule, record, edit, produce, and promote the podcast. I did the same thing last year when they stepped away but it's becoming a bit overwhelming as time goes on. I genuinely love producing the pod, but I need to find a way to keep it sustainable and fun, so my actual performance on the pod doesn't suffer. So I've cleared it with the boys and we're going to go down to one episode a week (for now) that will live exclusively behind the Patreon wall (with a teaser on the main feed similar to shows like Mandog Pod). We've really enjoyed the in person episodes and the energy feels so much better when you're in the room with other performers, so the plan is to do a lot more in person recordings and have those be our main episodes, perhaps filling them with more scenes and scene requests over longer conversations. That's where we shine anyway, our takes aren't hot enough to be a talking heads pod. The timeline for this is looking like the end of April to start this more slowed down summer. My hope is that this will actually free us up for more live shows, Q&A's, and other interesting bonus content, but I don't want to over promise just yet. Just want to give full transparency on where my head is at. So that's it! FUDGECAST is a go, but scaled back slightly to accommodate my mental health, which I personally love. Hopefully in the future we can remedy that and pump out more of the good improv slop you love! Yours in pervertedness,-Tim, Damian, and Dan

We recorded on April Fool's Day, so we had to complain about pranks and prankers who commit them. But Susie thinks Sarah is a prank enabler. We discuss a large cluster of people in a small town who contracted ALS, and we learn what might be causing it. Sarah explains how a person gets a star on the Walk of Fame and why it's not on merit alone. But we are enraged about one particular star, and how it desecrates the whole Walk. We learn why women are always marrying "down" these days at least on one metric, and why the pandemic made gender differences greater. We discuss a scholar who is known as "Dr. Dance" and the benefits that dance provides for Parkinson's patients. And our theory about some people don't like to dance. Sarah explains why we all secretly love to assemble our furniture ourselves.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors: Use code BRAINCANDY for 40% off best-selling sheets, pajamas, and more at https://cozyearth.comFor 50% off your order, head to https://www.dailylook.com and use code BRAINCANDYGet 20% OFF by going to https://www.honeylove.com/braincandy #honeylovepodFor 20% off your order, head to https://reliefband.com and use code BRAINCANDYGet 25% off your first month of Ritual when you visit https://ritual.com/braincandy and add Essential Protein today.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Did anything scary happen to you last week on April Fool's Day? We all know that sometimes what starts as a harmless joke can spiral quickly into something much darker. The thrill of tricking someone, the joy of getting away with a joke until the laughter fades and something sinister takes its place. What starts as fun can quickly turn into a nightmare, where the boundaries between prank and harsh reality blurs, and the consequences are far worse than imagined. First, don't look behind you. Followed by game over… for good. Finally in our last story, Five knocks, you're dead. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Trump's tariffs will hurt U.S. consumers and industries, leading to higher prices, fewer imports, and potential recession, while discussing their legality.Go to https://get.stash.com/gold to see how you can receive $25 towards your first stock purchase and to view important disclosures.Peter Schiff discusses the steep decline in the stock market following President Trump's announcement of tariffs, with a focus on how these tariffs will negatively impact the U.S. economy. The host argues that, contrary to Trump's claims, the tariffs will not rejuvenate American industries and will instead lead to higher prices for consumers, fewer imports, and potential recession. The tariffs are considered illegal and unconstitutional by the host, who explains that tariffs, historically, have been a burden on the middle class and poor. The host also mentions China's retaliatory tariffs and the broader implications on global trade and economic stability.

In this episode, Adam and Dr. Drew kick things off by falling for a William Shatner Goes to Mars headline—before realizing it was posted on April Fools' Day. That sparks a broader conversation about gullibility, aging, and memory recall, as the two reflect on how their minds process information (or don't). They talk about Elon Musk's deeper motivations, comparing his ambitions to those of legacy-seeking billionaires like Bill Gates and George Soros. They also revisit the pandemic era, reacting to a resurfaced Lincoln Project ad warning that sending kids back to school during COVID would be deadly, and they break down how so many public narratives and media campaigns have aged poorly. They touch on vaccine side effects, media misinformation, and how personal observation—like watching how COVID did or didn't affect kids—is often more useful than mainstream reporting.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Election Results: Recent elections in Florida and Wisconsin were significant for control in the House and for President Trump's agenda. Republicans won two congressional seats in Florida, providing a slight majority in the House. In Wisconsin, a constitutional amendment for voter ID passed, but a liberal judge won a Supreme Court seat. Longest Filibuster: Senator Cory Booker set a new record for the longest filibuster in Senate history, surpassing Ted Cruz's previous record. Cruz shared anecdotes about his own filibuster experience, including advice from Rand Paul and the challenges of standing for long periods. April Fool's Day Prank: Cruz played an April Fool's joke by tweeting a photoshopped image of himself without a beard, which garnered a lot of reactions. Today's word of the day is ‘fool' as in April Fool as in Jurickson Profar as in the Atlanta Braves as in disaster. That's right we have our first PED suspension of the big league season and Profar is done for 80 games. Fool! Can the Braves rebound from this dreadful start? (13:00 ) Rafael Devers still can't hit. Still can't make contact. Historically bad start. But the team did sign Garrett Crochet for a record deal! Happy! (21:25) Athletics played in Sacramento. Minor league ballpark. And they got crushed. And a drone stopped the game. And the media center is a tent. (33:00) Review: The Room Next Door. (35:13) Browns owner Jimmy Haslam finally admitted what we all know… the Deshaun Watson trade as a disaster. (42:40) Woody Johnson met the media and said the Jets moved on from Aaron Rodgers but wasn't his choice! Also talked about buyouts for employees. Also mentioned the NFLPA being a joke. What a guy!
