It's common to feel a little anxiety on a Sunday evening as your relaxing weekend draws to a close and you start thinking about your return to the office the following morning. Indeed, a YouGovAmerica survey published in 2021 found that 58% of workers said Monday was their least favourite day of the week. With that in mind, American startup founder Marisa Jo Mayes created and trademarked the Bare Minimum Monday concept in 2023. She promoted it through TikTok, where it went viral. The idea is pretty simple: doing as little as possible on the first workday of the week helps reduce stress and gently get back into your work routine. What constitutes doing the bare minimum then? I'm not sure my boss will be happy with me doing the bare minimum every Monday! Is there any kind of compromise that will help me have a less stressful start to the week? Topic #1: It's prudent for businesses to continue the hiring and interview process during the holiday season. Job seekers can also take advantage of the fact that there will be less competition for employment during this time. Topic #2:The battle over return-to-office mandates has been waging for a while. As a sign of discontent and protest, some employees, like the trends of quiet quitting, acting their wage or Bare Minimum Mondays, have started “coffee badging.” This new workplace trend has emerged as a way for employees to meet their required in-office attendance policies, but avoid spending too much time there. Tune in to see how this can end badly for workers.

Bare-Minimum Mondays. Quiet Quitting. Lazy Girl Job. Ask a Boomer or Gen Xer about their younger employee, and they might point to these viral tik tok slogans as how they see their new coworkers. Born between 1997 and 2012, Gen Z is the latest cohort to enter the workforce. They are criticized for wanting it all - work-life balance, high pay, great benefits - and wanting it right away. They expect their work assignments to align with their ideological goals, they aren't afraid to call out senior coworkers for creating a toxic workplace, they complain constantly about burnout, and if their demands aren't met, they are happy to quit (sometimes very publicly). Exasperated employers argue that seniority and pay is earned through years of hard work, long hours, and loyalty to the company. In their view, Gen Z are entitled, lazy, and in for a rude awakening. Zoomers, on the other hand, paint a different story. They are entering the workforce in a period of crushing student loan debt, growing wealth inequality, and wage stagnation. The traditional labor market that benefited boomers does not work for them. Unlike their parents, they want to enjoy a home life instead of bragging about 80-hour work weeks. And they want to feel passionate and engaged about how they spend the majority of their waking hours. To Gen Z, it is the older generation that have been living - nay, existing - in an unhealthy and unequal capitalist market place, and it's high time things change, lest companies will be left without young workers and the ability to adapt and flourish in a rapidly changing economy. Sarah is $400 richer thanks to a tip from Susie, and you might have money waiting for you too! Sarah watched a series on Amazon that is a must-see, and had her in stitches, but also raised some ideas about our gullibility, the legal system, and reality tv. She also watched a film that was marketed as a documentary, and only after she had started the SEQUEL did she realize it was a completely scripted movie. She wants her money back, Bezos! We discuss a trend called "Bare Minimum Mondays" where people ease into the work week to help with burnout, and Susie is rolling her eyes about it. Sarah thinks she would prefer a Foot Off the Gas Fridays instead, but Susie wants people to realize 1) we all do have to work whether we like it or not, 2) a gimmicky life hack isn't the solution to the systemic issues that cause our burnout and malaise. We debate whether a kid who drew on a museum piece in crayon was a hooligan, has bad parents, or was doing exactly what any kid would do if the museum handed him a crayon in an art gallery...or all of the above. Plus, Sarah provides Goodwill tips and a cleaning hack that is saving the day in her closet. Kathryn interviews Author Linda Rossetti. In times of upheaval and uncertainty — in the aftermath of a breakup, the loss of a job, a troubling health diagnosis, or some other disruption occurs — we need a new response to how we imagine ourselves. We must say goodbye to what we expected would happen and embrace a new self-concept anchored by what holds value and meaning to us. The process of transformation can allow us to discard both internal and external expectations that no longer serve us, and initiate a growth cycle that connects us to our truth. Linda Rossetti offers insights and empowers us to set a new course when the future is a blank slate. She teaches techniques that can bring clarity, energy, and optimism to any journey of transformation. She is a Harvard MBA, former Fortune 500 executive, and pioneering researcher on individuals' experience at the crossroads of their lives. Her work has been featured on NPR, NECN, CBS/WBZ, Money Magazine, SMARTBrief, the BBJ and other outlets.Kathryn also interviews Author Alexandra Kharazi, MD.Burnout is at an all time high among professionals. It has led to ‘Bare Minimum Mondays' and many professionals resigning from their positions. It has been made worse with the acute job shortage in many professions and overwhelming workloads. How can professionals cope with the burnout? How can you overcome it? Through candid interviews with people in high-stress, high-risk occupations, Alexandra Kharazi MD brings us a raw and honest exploration of the internal conflicts and fears shared by professionals in distinctly different yet surprisingly comparable fields-including medicine, skydiving, and stunt driving. She provides insight on navigating risk in the face of fear and offers techniques on how we can ultimately transcend the limiting beliefs that hold us back from achieving our goals. To be human means you will experience stress at points in your life throughout the course of your life. It is part of the human condition that, if left unmanaged, leaves us gassed. This week on The Capitalist Investor, wealth advisor Dave Abate was invited to discuss current news and events related to the economy. He shared his perspective as an adviser and a planner, offering insight into how the current economic climate could affect clients. Dave discussed the testimony of JP Powell and the fallout from it, the debt ceiling and Social Security being directly related to the talk. Tony the Tiger was also present to offer insight and humor. Dave discussed the continuing rate hikes, saying that a pivot is not likely anytime soon and that it'll have to be a quick one when it does happen. The conversation delved into the surprise that the market has in reaction to Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell every time he speaks. This is because he has been repeating the same message for the past six months, that interest rates will stay higher for longer. Senator Elizabeth Warren called out Powell for wanting to increase unemployment by 1% in order to increase inflation. The discussion then shifted to the mortgage industry, which will feel the impact of the higher interest rates, as the cost of a 30-year mortgage has since increased by 60% from 18 months ago. The conversation ended with a reminder of how rising interest rates make it difficult for people to own a home, as the cost of a $1500 mortgage is now $2400.The conversation centers around the real estate market and how it has been impacted by the pandemic. It is noted that 18 months ago, a $400,000 house would have been reduced to $250,000 in order to have the same monthly payment. It is also noted that the mortgage industry makes up 15% of the GDP and it is likely to take a hit in the coming months. The speakers discuss the potential of finding distressed sellers in the market, as well as the possibility of taking advantage of the current low-interest rates. They also consider the potential of the Fed's terminal rate rising to 6 or 7%, which would further impact the real estate market. Ultimately, the conversation concludes that the real estate market is likely to see a downturn in the coming months due to the pandemic. The conversation is discussing the unknowns of the mortgage industry and whether or not the Fed will overshoot the rate. The consensus rate has been creeping up for 6-12 months, starting at 4.5 and now at 5.6. The conversation then shifts to how the pandemic has affected the consumer, with many people only buying necessities such as food and not super discretionary items like bikes and TVs. The conversation concludes with the idea that the Fed may overshoot the rate and then quickly pivot to reduce it, likely in the next meeting.0:00:00"JP Powell's Testimony and the Impact on the Economy: A Discussion with Wealth Advisor Dave Abate"0:02:32Analysis of the Impact of Rising Interest Rates on the Mortgage Industry0:04:29Heading: Impact of the Housing Market on Affordability and the Mortgage Industry0:08:43Discussion on the Potential Impact of Rising Interest Rates on the Economy0:10:56Discussion on the Potential Impact of the US Debt Ceiling Crisis0:13:06Discussion on US Treasury Bond Market and US Defense Spending0:16:19Discussion on the US Debt Ceiling, Inflation, and Social Security Reform0:18:15Heading: Exploring Solutions to Social Security Challenges0:21:38Discussion of Potential Solutions to Social Security Funding Challenges0:25:14Heading: Exploring the Possibility of "Bare Minimum Mondays"0:27:39Heading: Exploring the Impact of Quiet Quitting and Working Smarter, Not Harder0:32:35Conversation on Paranormal Experiences
