Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series on 1997's Interstate '76. We set the game a bit in its time, talk about Activision (almost as an afterthought), and then start getting into the characters and the vibe, of which there is much. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Early mission or two Issues covered: a game time forgot, playing a sim game genre, a unique take on the sim genre plus car combat, prepping the sim elements vs the actual play, other games from that year, taking a formula and doing something different with it, modern exploitation-inspired games, exploitation cinema, grindhouse, other potential influences and inspirations, why you pick sparse environments, breakable cacti, a huge variety of games, low-cost film-making and democratization, vigilantes, a bland corporation, text adventures, a business and not a game company, seeing the impact of acquisition or mergers, character introductions, fake actors playing characters, character names, Groove Champion vs Stiletto Anyway, stylized and simplified characters, flat shading and seeing every polygon, connecting to the character in the cockpit and via the radio, naturally cinematic, stylized presence, jitteriness and physics, compounding errors, deterministic physics, preserving this game and finding ways to play it, just shipping a game, dealing with a controller vs keyboard.    Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: TIE Fighter (series), Starfighter, MechWarrior (series), Voltron, Diablo, Resident Evil, The Last Express, Fallout, GoldenEye, Castlevania: SotN, Age of Empires, Outlaws, Curse of Monkey Island, Dark Forces 2, Shadows of the Empire, Wing Commander: Prophecy, Final Fantasy VII, Mario Kart 64, Gran Turismo, PlayStation, Dark Forces, Final Fantasy Tactics, Wet, Kane and Lynch, Suda 51, Grasshopper Interactive, Killer 7, Death Race 2000, Russ Meyers, Death Proof, Mad Max (series), MegaMan 8, Kaeon, Cleopatra Jones, Enter the Dragon, Jim Kelly, Bruce Lee, Game of Death, Quentin Tarantino, Kill Bill, Fist of Fury, Starsky and Hutch, River Raid, Pitfall, David Crane, Atari, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Capcom, Blizzard, id Software, Interplay, Infocom, Zork (series), Witness, Enchanter (series), Ballyhoo, Lurking Horror, Electronic Arts, Bobby Kotick, Nintendo, BattleZone, Pac-Man, Jason Schreier, Play Nice: The Rise and Fall of Blizzard Entertainment, Hearthstone, Marvel Snap, Ultima (series), Bioware, Treyarch, Raven Software, Heretic/Hexen, Quake, Battletech/FASA Entertainment, Anachronox, Pam Grier, Chuck Norris, Dungeon Keeper, Half-Life 2, Indiana Jones and the Internal Machine, Video Game History Foundation, Star Wars: Episode I: Racer, Forza (series), Falcon (series), Dark Souls, Minecraft, LostLake86, Mors, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia.   Errata: Lost Treasures of Infocom actually originally came out in 1991. It took 119 episodes, and a patreon poll victory, but we're finally talking SEGA Dreamcast on Remember The Game? And what better place to start than with the game that started it all - Sonic Adventure. There's certainly a lot to criticize here. The camera. The glitches and bugs. Horrible voice acting. A certain cat (FUCKKKKKKKK!!!) And we do indeed criticize all of that. But we also talk about how fun this game is when this stuff gets out of the way, and how this game really was a great debut title for the Dreamcast. My guest this week is my pal and Sega lover Chris Heber, and we spent an hour talking about the good and bad aspects of Sonic's 3D debut. And before Chris and I complain about that jungle and that fucking cat, it's the fabled 'Remember The Game?' intro! We talk about the possibility of a new Nintendo 64 console, the rumours surrounding the Dreamcast mini, kickstarting video games, and more!  We also have another fantastic edition of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This week it's the 'First Person Shooter' edition, starring Half-Life 2, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go: 0:00 - 7:50  Initial self-indulgent rambling 7:51 - 21:40 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions, and Letter Time!) 21:41 - 30:19 'Play One. Remember when Nintendo and Rare were the gaming tag team champions? Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Conker's Bad Fur Day...Good times. And in the case of Conker, hilarious times.    This game has some warts. The gameplay isn't great, the camera sucks, the controls aren't very good. But the sheer hilarity Bad Fur Day brings to the table neutralizes most of that. I would put this game right up alongside the two South Park RPGs as the funniest damned games I've ever played in my life.   FORMER 'Remember The Game?' Hall of Famer Mark McCue agrees with me. We spent a good hour getting angry at this game, and then laughing about the same stuff that pissed us off. If you like Conker's Bad Fur Day, you'll love this episode.   And before Mark and I talk about fighting giant piles of poo and watching pitchforks try to kill themselves, it's the fabled 'Remember The Game?' intro! We talk about the movie Grandma's Boy (ugh), the possibility of another Playstation Vita, have a great discussion about Playstation's refusal to adopt a Gamepass style subscription service, and more!    We also have another fantastic edition of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This week it's 'Konami/Playstation One games that haven't already been remade' edition, starring Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.   If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go:   0:00 - 8:25  Initial self-indulgent rambling   8:26 - 24:45 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions, and Letter Time!)   24:46 - 34:22 'Play One.
