Churches have two kinds of ministries they operate: essential and support ministries. In this episode, we talk about how to make a distinction between the two and why that is important, along with some potential dangers and some helpful implications. Did you ever consider that your church operates parachurch ministries from within? Perhaps what your church has considered really important should be viewed as a non-essential parachurch support ministry. May all of God's churches be healthy in how we spend our ministry efforts.

In this powerful message we unpack Romans 13's call to submit to governing authorities as part of God's design. He acknowledges the difficulty of this teaching, especially in unjust systems, but emphasizes that submission reflects trust in God's sovereignty. Balancing this, he highlights when civil disobedience is biblical—when obedience to authorities conflicts with clear Scripture, as seen in examples like Peter, Daniel, and the Hebrew midwives. Pastor Karl urges the church to wake up from spiritual slumber, cut off the supply lines to sin, and put on Christ daily. With salvation nearer than ever, he challenges listeners to live sober, alert lives, rooted in love—the only debt that grows the more we pay it. Looking ahead, Pastor Karl previews upcoming sermons on Palm Sunday and Easter, encouraging a 13-day devotional journey through the Gospels' accounts of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Have you ever wondered about the modern trend of deconstruction within Christianity, especially amongst the younger generation? Join me as I engage in a thought-provoking conversation with Braxton Hunter, president of Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary. We explore this deeply fascinating phenomenon in depth, digging into its roots and implications for the faith journey. We discuss its evolution from a healthy process of critical thinking to a path away from conservative, bible-based Christianity for some, and the critical importance of teaching our children to think for themselves. We're also not shying away from the challenging discourse around LGBT issues in Christian doctrine, addressing the harmful dichotomy often perpetuated by churches and the changing attitudes towards sin. We dismantle the misconceptions connected with 1 Corinthians 6, 9-11, bringing a fresh perspective to the expectations and burdens put on Christians, and how it impacts our understanding of selfhood in Christ. We speak candidly about the guilt, shame, and harm that can arise from these misunderstandings, highlighting the urgent need for Christians to stand with those grappling with sin. Finally, we dive into the powerful effects of social issues on deconstruction and deconversion, and how the dialogue on biblical sexuality can push people to question their beliefs. Braxton shares his insight on the shifting attitudes towards the LGBT community within Christian doctrine and how the gospel offers everyone, regardless of their struggles with sexuality, a promise of hope and acceptance. Navigating Same-Sex Marriage And Religious Freedom The Church seems to have set a course conceding that same-sex marriage is here to stay in the United States. However, its support of the Respect of Marriage Act is not support for same-sex marriage. Rather, it is to protect religious freedom.  Senator Romney sides with the position of the Church on the bill believing that the provisions protecting religious freedom are sufficient. Senator Lee and most conservative organizations disagree. Has the culture war already been lost? Have the changes over the last fifteen years created a mudslide that cannot be stopped? It may be time to think of the battle differently. Is it raining? Is it pouring? Should we be building an ark and inviting, persuading, all to enter before the waters rise? When we walk away from everything we ever knew about who we through God is we can feel very lost for a long time. How do we support someone who is lost in life? How do we help ourselves when we are there? We have to learn to respect God's timing and His process. Not everything is going to flow the way we think it should. His will be done. We also have to re-train ourselves to know that our feelings are our gauge, not our guide. We have to learn to turn to the word for answers and to know Him, not base our decisions on feelings as they can lead us astray. We don't have all the answers. God wants to be our guide. And lastly, we need to learn to be still. To trust in Him to work it all out. Learn to understand surrender. Carrying a load of baggage? Jealous of people you see who have faith and you, well, just don't? Do you feel like there is no way you can move forward in faith until you unload and get some answers?
