Join us as we kick off with a chaotic, laugh-out-loud intro that sets the stage for an episode brimming with heartfelt moments and humor. We dive into our trio's playful dynamics and the bonds strengthened over the years, celebrating Brittany's inspiring weight loss journey and fantasizing about a dream trip to Jamaica, despite the inevitable logistical nightmares. We explore how tackling personal grooming choices, especially Steve's controversial decision to stay clean-shaven, can spark friendly debates while stressing the importance of personal choice and defying societal expectations. From light-hearted banter to heavier topics, we shift gears to discuss a tragic local incident that shook our community and reflect on society's eerie fascination with morbid events. Our conversation takes a turn towards the infamous Gypsy Rose case, exploring the profound impact of personal trauma and the resilience it can foster, drawing parallels to how influential figures like Eminem transform pain into art. We also recount the chaos and fun of an emo-themed party, discussing the music that defined the night and the unexpected drama that unfolded. Finally, we celebrate our geekier passions without shame, sharing our experiences at Fandom Fest and the supportive communities that have helped us embrace our interests. We discuss overcoming bullying and self-doubt, the joy of rediscovering childhood memories through voice actors, and the cultural pride found in our heritage and favorite tequilas. With humor and candidness, we wrap up with reflections on personal growth and the journey to self-acceptance, making this episode a rich, emotional rollercoaster you won't want to miss.
On February 6, comedy duo Rhett and Link uploaded a video titled "We're Done." After a decade-plus of trying to pitch film projects to traditional Hollywood studios, they announced that they're opting instead to produce a TV-style show with the team they've built at Mythical...and distribute it directly through their YouTube channel. A couple weeks later, Publish Press writer Nate Graber-Lipperman went to Mythical's studio in Burbank to learn more about the show — and talk to Rhett and Link about their complicated history with Hollywood. This interview was part of "The Year Creators Went Hollywood," the cover story for The Publish Paper: Volume 2. It's a 28-page print zine we made that features original stories, artwork, and photography — get your copy here.
Best friends Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal started out as “comedians for Christ,” and grew their partnership into one of the most successful YouTube platforms in existence. During college they created silly videos and songs for Christian events, and later built a following on YouTube before most people knew what it was. After struggling to find stardom in Hollywood, they continued to build a presence on YouTube: sampling punishingly hot peppers, writing ear-wormy songs about random things, showing off glasses that turned the world upside down. Nowadays, their entertainment company, Mythical, reports over 75 million subscribers and 25 billion lifetime views. This episode was produced and researched by Katherine Sypher with music composed by Ramtin Arablouei. It was edited by Neva Grant. You can follow HIBT on Twitter & Instagram, and email us at hibt@id.wondery.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Have you ever wondered about the modern trend of deconstruction within Christianity, especially amongst the younger generation? Join me as I engage in a thought-provoking conversation with Braxton Hunter, president of Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary. We explore this deeply fascinating phenomenon in depth, digging into its roots and implications for the faith journey. We discuss its evolution from a healthy process of critical thinking to a path away from conservative, bible-based Christianity for some, and the critical importance of teaching our children to think for themselves. We're also not shying away from the challenging discourse around LGBT issues in Christian doctrine, addressing the harmful dichotomy often perpetuated by churches and the changing attitudes towards sin. We dismantle the misconceptions connected with 1 Corinthians 6, 9-11, bringing a fresh perspective to the expectations and burdens put on Christians, and how it impacts our understanding of selfhood in Christ. We speak candidly about the guilt, shame, and harm that can arise from these misunderstandings, highlighting the urgent need for Christians to stand with those grappling with sin. Finally, we dive into the powerful effects of social issues on deconstruction and deconversion, and how the dialogue on biblical sexuality can push people to question their beliefs. Braxton shares his insight on the shifting attitudes towards the LGBT community within Christian doctrine and how the gospel offers everyone, regardless of their struggles with sexuality, a promise of hope and acceptance. This episode is a must-listen for those seeking a deeper understanding of these pressing issues in contemporary Christianity. A video has gone viral after a young Christian couple posted being caught off-guard when a worship night in Dallas turned into a opportunity for a pastor to preach that Christians who oppose same-sex marriage are actually committing blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Also Rhett and Link are now promoting, and in the case of Link, even dressing as a drag queen after their joint deconstruction from the Christian faith. Recent years have seen a slew of high profile Christians publicly renouncing their faith, deconverting, and/or deconstructing. Unfortunately, many of these “Exvangelicals” have received nasty responses and even many well-meaning people have unintentionally responded offensively. What is the healthy way to approach the issue of deconstruction? What can be learned from these public figures? Do […]

‘Christians React To Rhett And Link's Purity Culture Video' It's time to talk PURITY CULTURE! Youtubers Rhett and Link (Good Mythical Morning) recently opened up on their Ear Biscuits podcast about their experiences growing up under purity culture and the effects it had on their dating lives and views on s*x. As former Christians who fell away from the faith, Rhett and Link's conversation around purity culture is one I think many Christians can relate to. There are a lot of strong opinions against purity culture. We'll use their video to decide where we stand! Thanks for being part of the P&M Fam!! SUBSCRIBE!

YouTube, TikTok, and Amazon are all in different stages of their live ecommerce journeys, but one thing's for sure. If Asia is any indicator, this sector is going to be BIG. And it's going to be here sooner than you think. Meanwhile the future of gaming and LVMH (Louis Vuitton, et al) + Kering (Gucci, et al) + fashion houses at large are all intertwined. Both sectors like to contemplate the future and push the limits of what's possible in popular culture. It's a natural fit. Rhett & Link are also using their Daddys of YouTube status - and incredibly successful careers and business building acumen - to invest $5 million in creators. And TikTok may soon crown a new king in Khaby Lame.
Hey, y'all - Joel here. I'm in charge of compiling all of the episode data for each entry. This means that I'm in charge of writing the episode notes, the episode summary, the episode name, etc. It's very important to me that all of this information be thoughtful and accurate, especially when it comes to the historical information contained within the episode summary.Lukas's monologue is a large part of what makes an entry feel like a time capsule. I don't want the listener to just feel like they're listening to a recording. I want the listener to feel as if they've been transported through space and time. Creating that illusion heavily relies on the idea that when we represent a time or place aurally, that it be accurate to the events that occurred in real life. When you step into 3rd Person, you're no longer an outside observer. It should feel as if you were really there.BEST CONSUMED THROUGH HEADPHONESFollow @3rdPersonPodwww.Patreon.com/3rdPersonPodwww.3rdPersonPod.com

Hey, y'all - Joel here. One of the more significant moments from Entry 01 was when I revealed that I had not engaged in any sort of romantic activity for six years. Since the recording of that entry, I've reached the seven-year mark. This has been because I simply haven't been interested. The idea of giving such a large part of myself over to someone else is unappealing to me. Or at least it has been. I spend much of the podcast pontificating as to whether or not I will ever date. However, I've found myself reassessing my feelings on the matter as of recent. Is it because I've met someone I might be interested in? Maybe. Or is it just that I'm becoming more and more aware of my own mortality and I don't want to spend the rest of my life alone? I dunno man. Either way, I think I'm starting to be open to it.BEST CONSUMED THROUGH HEADPHONESFollow @3rdPersonPodwww.Patreon.com/3rdPersonPodwww.3rdPersonPod.com

If you're at all in-tune with internet culture, you're probably familiar with Rhett and Link and their YouTube show, "Good Mythical Morning" - a comedy daily show with over 16 million subscribers and over 6 billion total video views. From food challenges to music antics, Rhett and Link have achieved tremendous YouTube success and a huge following. A little unknown fact about their rise to success is that it had its beginnings in North Carolina evangelical culture where they served as Cru missionaries on the UNC campus before launching their entertainment career writing skits and music for "What's In the Bible?" (The Fabulous Bentley Brothers). Rhett was even a part of the Bible Church family in the mid-2000s! This past February on their Ear Biscuits podcast, Rhett and Link decided to each tell their spiritual deconstruction stories from born again, faithful followers of Jesus to "hopeful agnostics." With their stories hitting close to home, Pastors Jay and Ryan - along with fellow colleague, Colin Rowley - address their spiritual deconstruction and offer some feedback and counsel to those who might be mourning this news or are in a similar place in their faith journey. Have questions or ideas for a future episode? Email them to bespoken@biblechurch.org. Bespoken is a weekly podcast by Pastors, Jay Thomas and Ryan McKee. Each week we cover spiritual topics and issues that will help you grow closer to God and deeper in Christ. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Rhett and Link adopt a posture of being not sure. This echoes the doubt movement of a decade ago where Rachel Held Evans and CRC Pastor John Suk wrote doubt books. Doubt is an important part of the process of faith. Yet what always interests me is that doubt in some areas yields asserted certainty in others. They may be skeptical about theology but certain about politics. Here's the Google Doc I used. When is doubt healthy? When is it not? Doubt and deconversion have bloomed into a cottage industry in American Christianity. This week, we discuss what to do when you have doubts and the Ear Biscuit videos on Rhett and Link's spiritual deconstruction. Here are some videos and references we mention in the episode: Rhett and Link Videos: Link’s Spiritual Deconstruction Rhett’s Spiritual Deconstruction Missionary Years 18 Years of Marriage Helpful Articles: “Let’s Deconstruct a Deconstruction Story” - Alisa Childers “Jen Hatmaker and the Power of Deconversion Stories” - Michael Kruger “Progressive Christianity: Even Shallower Than the Faith I Left” - Ian Harber

What should Christians make of all the deconstruction stories we find our social media newsfeeds? I invited apologist Matthew Mittelberg on the show to talk with me about the recent deconversion stories of Rhett and Link of the Good Mythical Morning YouTube channel. Matthew grew up in an environment of apologetics and evangelism, and also grew up as a fan of Rhett and Link before their deconversions. He brought some meaningful insights to the conversation, and helps us understand why these particular deconversion stories have proven to be so powerful and persuasive.

Rhett and Link's "deconstruction" is just one example of a generation's defection from Christianity for familiar reasons, but what kind of thing are we actually talking about in terms anyone can understand? Transformations of many varieties happen in nature and in humanity. We seek positive examples of it. Addiction is a negative example. What can we learn about transformations even before we dig into the specific reasons Rhett and Link self-identify for their transformations? Let's begin the conversation here.
