Plus, we discuss Anthony Mackie's comments on raising his son to be "masculine" and what that means in today's world. A tense espionage thriller from the legendary Soderbergh. Novocaine Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olson Starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson A man who can't feel pain turns his condition into a weapon when he fights to rescue his kidnapped love interest. High-energy, bone-crunching action with a dark sense of humor. Opus Directed by Mark Anthony Green Starring Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Amber Midthunder, Juliette Lewis A young writer visits the secluded estate of a pop star who vanished 30 years ago. Hey everybody, welcome back to another review here on MOVIE Morning. Today, I'm reviewing one of my most anticipated action, mid-budget films of the whole year: NOVOCAINE, starring Jack Quaid. The trailer for this film that came out a few months ago immediately put this film on my radar. It had a U.S. release just a few days ago and I had the chance to see it a bit early, relatively, here in the U.K. thanks to a Mystery Screening. So far, Jack Quaid's already been having a pretty good year because I was a big fan of Companion, the horror-comedy that came out at the end of January. So, is Novocaine one of the most fun action films of recent memory? Find out in this review!Novocaine:Directed by: Dan Berk, Robert OlsenWritten by: Lars JacobsonProduced by: Adam Friedlander, Joby Harold, Julian Rosenberg, Drew Simon, Tory TunnellExecutive Producers: Josh Adler, Paul Barbeau, Lars Jacobson, Matt Schwartz, Sam SpeiserMusic by: Lorne Balfe, Andrew KawczynskiCinematography by: Jacques JouffretEditing by: Christian WagnerCasting by: Bonnie Lee Bouman, Ronna KressProduction Design by: Kara LindstromArt Direction by: Kirk Doman, Sara Hartinger, Moray McGregorCast: Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Jacob BattalionSynopsis: When the girl of his dreams is kidnapped, everyman Nate turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.
"Novocaine" stars Jack Quaid as Nathan Caine, a bank executive with the inability to feel pain who goes out to rescue his co-worker after a group of bank robbers takes her hostage. The film has received positive reviews for its comedy, action, and charming lead performance from Jack Quaid. Directors Dan Berk & Robert Olsen were both kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about their work on the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in theaters, from Paramount Pictures. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Will Ashton is back with a solo Instant Take on Novocaine, the action-comedy-romance hybrid starring Jack Quaid (The Boys) as a pain-insensitive bank employee who becomes an unlikely action hero. Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (Villains), this film surprised Will with its surprising charm. But also its creative premise, and solid central performances, too. Based on the real-life condition CIP (congenital insensitivity to pain), Novocaine walks a tonal tightrope between over-the-top violence and sincere character development. Will shares why Jack Quaid’s “young Tom Hanks” energy works so well here. Especially alongside Amber Midthunder (Prey), and how the film balances disability representation with fun genre thrills. Will also unpacks some of the film’s weaknesses, including uneven comedy, some clunky reveals, and a few undercooked side characters. But overall, this one came in above expectations and might just be Jack Quaid’s best leading role to date. Also starring Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel (Get Out), and Matt Walsh, Novocaine delivers quirky action, gory visuals, and a lot of heart…even if it sometimes plays it too safe. Mark and Zanandi discuss the 2022 science fiction thriller Significant Other. Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, and starring Maika Monroe, Jake Lacy and comfy fleece jackets, the movie focuses on a hiking trip that goes horribly awry. In this episode, they also talk about surprise shark attacks, Patagonia sweaters, and aliens experiencing anxiety. Enjoy!
As stated many times on this podcast, the Greys, the white and hairless aliens, are one of the monsters in the horror and science fiction genre that seem not to get enough screen time in film. In 2022, the Paramount film SIGNIFICANT OTHER alluded to space invaders or some sort of being that may play a prominent role in the movie's story.Ruth (Maika Monroe (IT FOLLOWS)) and Harry (Jake Lacy (THE WHITE LOTUS)) head out for a camping trip in the woods of the Northwestern United States. It was supposed to be a romantic time, with Harry even planning something special at an overlook of the Pacific Ocean that means a lot to him. However, the two find the dead body of a deer that is covered with a black substance that doesn't seem like any type of moss they've ever seen. The film was co-directed and co-written by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen. The film received buzz with it starring screamqueen Maika Monroe. As for reviews, the movie has a fair score of 71% by the Rotten Tomatoes meter. With its interesting twist in the middle of the film, and an unexpected ending that oddly works, your co-hosts take a look at the structure of the movie and give their thoughts on the film as a whole.

This week on the podcast, Lauren and Caleb from Swapping Horror Stories join us and they decided to pull Significant Other from 2022 directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen out of the Body Bag! We talk about Caleb being new to podcasting and we talk about how this movie is, at least in our opinion, a tad bit underrated compared to what we think about it. We also touch on Jensen's Wart Trauma. I'm in therapy, I'm okay. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefrightcrew/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefrightcrew/support
Kristina Hughes: Uber cool to talk to! Very talented actress! Portraying the role of "The Mother", Dan Berk & Robert Olson could not have picked a better person to play that main villain role. Kristina provides an answer to the mystery of how 'The Mother" has such a huge influence over the other vampires and [The Brotherhood]. Additionally, she talks about the makeup process, the special effects, and the story behind the movie. Overall, an excellent interview with the very talented actress. She did not disappoint in the movie at all! Make sure to check out her other roles in her other movies. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

Villains is one of THOSE movies. This is what we look for. If it was possible to do a podcast featuring only the kind of movie we look for it would come out, maybe a couple times a year. Villains stars Bill Skarsgard (It), Maika Monroe (It Follows), Jeffery Donavan (Burn Notice), and Keira Sedgwick (The Closer). Written and Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen [Body (2015), Significant Other (2022)] After a pair of amateur criminals break into a suburban home. They stumble on a basement secret that two bonkers homeowners will do anything to keep from getting out. https://www.hulu.com/movie/villains-ac3b54d9-7008-4cb3-b808-3fd137016812 (Villains is currently Streaming on Hulu) Find Ushttps://twitter.com/LastClerks (Twitter ) https://www.instagram.com/thelastvideostoreclerks/ (Instagram) Facebook.com/lastclerks Subscribe to the Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-last-video-store-clerks/id1619037600 (Apple Podcasts) https://open.spotify.com/show/2c2ui17JePSCB6WjlWgy2o?si=TBLDrE8DS4GkY1ZJUTayXQ (Spotify) https://the-last-video-store-clerks.captivate.fm/listen (Everywhere) Else https://the-last-video-store-clerks.captivate.fm (The Last Video Store Clerks website) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6378710/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 (Villains (2019) - IMDb) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villains_(film) (Villains (film) - Wikipedia) https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/villains (Villains - Rotten Tomatoes) https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/04/entertainment/prey-review/index.html (Brian Lowry) Copyright 2022 Last Clerks

Christmas is bearing down on us as you might have noticed from the return of our festive theme. So we decided that the time had come for another head to head episode. No cancellation. No last minute decision. We simply wanted to do one. And it's Mitch's turn again... His chosen film? Body! A film that Mitch caught in an odd afternoon slot at Frightfest 2015, Body is the feature debut of directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, who have since gone on to direct Stake Land 2 and Villains, starring The Guest's Maika Monroe. With a timely festive vibe, Body is claustrophobic little chamber piece that features an appearance by the ever-excellent Larry Fessenden. BUT as always, the question is... Is it any good? The Synopsis is as follows: Three young women face a moral dilemma when they accidentally kill a groundskeeper at a secluded mansion. Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and some EXTREMELY Scottish accents. Remember, you can keep up to date with our news by following us via the usual social media outlets: Facebook Twitter Instagram Plus you can drop us an email to stronglanguageviolentscenes@gmail.com.
