Twa Teams, One Street: the football podcast that’s as obsessed by Dundee FC and Dundee United as you are!

With no fixture this weekend thanks to the latest international break, Dundee are entitled to keep basking in the glory of the derby hiding they dished out to United at Tannadice. But as the Dark Blues begin their preparations to face Rangers in just over a week, it's vital that they find a way to replicate the devastating attacking display that destroyed the Tangerines. Lyall Cameron will face his future employers when he takes the field against the Gers, while Simon Murray – booked for his controversial goal celebration against United – will need to keep his nose clean to avoid a damaging suspension. The stakes could scarcely be higher for the Dee. How they handle the pressure is likely to define their season. As Dundee bask, United will look for a way to ensure their first half capitulation against their rivals stays a one-off. Jim Goodwin believes his side are still “in the driving seat” to secure a top six spot, but their lead over Hearts, Motherwell and St Mirren is shrinking. Do United need to get back to basics? How beneficial will time on international duty prove for the nine Tangerines who have joined up with their countries? Host Sean Hamilton is joined by Alan Temple and Graeme Finnan to discuss all of these questions – and more. There's also the result of our competition to win a £100 Spar voucher and a crate of Lionel Messi's new drink mas+ – stick around until the end of the show to find out which lucky listener/viewer has won. Twa Teams, One Street is proud to be supported by SPAR Scotland. Competition T&Cs: Entries open from Thursday 13 March until 11:59 pm on Tuesday 18 March. Introducing “Who Killed Annalise?” a five-part true crime podcast series from The Courier and DC Thomson. In 2023, Police Scotland claimed they had solved every homicide since 2013. But for the family of Annalise Johnstone, one question remains: Who Killed Annalise? Annalise Johnstone was killed in the shadow of a witch's grave in 2018. Annalise's brother, Jordan Johnstone, and his girlfriend, Angela Newlands, were charged in connection with her brutal killing—but neither was ever convicted. The Courier revisits the cold case of Annalise Johnstone like never before, uncovering new details and speaking with those closest to the investigation: journalists, detectives, and witnesses. The Podcast also features interviews with Annalise's family, which is significant given that one was once a suspect. New episodes of Who Killed Annalise? drop weekly starting February 17, 2025. In each case, she finds out how they make balancing their paid work and carer role, work for them. In this thoughtful discussion, Leisa shares her own story of juggling parenting, caring and her day job, as well as some of the insights she has learnt from her podcast guests. They discuss identity, the practicalities around working while also being a parent carer and for some the idea of work as a respite. Leisa also describes what changes she would like to see in the workplace to support more parent carers. We're looking back at some of the collective creative spaces that have existed in Dundee and the reasons why they had to close. We'll also be speaking to David Cook consultant on the West Ward Works project to get an insight into why the development was unable to get off the ground. First we speak to Joanna Helfer who was one of the founding members of Tin Roof Collective. In 2011 they took on part of the old foundry building in the Blackness area of Dundee at a time when affordable studio space was virtually non-existent and the council didn't believe it was possible for artists to thrive outside cities like Glasgow or London. After having over 100 artists through their doors and many exhibitions and gigs in the space, Tin Roof sadly had to move out of the building in June 2016. 71 Brewing were moving in to the downstairs space and building regulations visited giving Tin Roof an ultimatum of finding £100,000 within six weeks to make upgrades or leave the building. Although this was the end of the large collective space Tin Roof does live on in two smaller WASPs spaces and the ceramics workshop in Dundee. We'll also come back to more creative use plans for the Blackness foundry in a later episode. In 2011 Lyall and Donna Holford-Lovell saw the need for a desk based collective space that also acted as an agency bringing in projects for the members to work on. Over time membership grew and Fleet supported the development of the city of culture bid and V&A to Dundee. Over time Lyall stepped down as director to focus on design work and Donna became much more involved in NEoN Digital Arts Festival. There just wasn't the resource to help fill desks, run marketing campaigns or bring in the projects that earned money for the collective. These factors ultimately led to the doors closing on Fleet. Donna went on to run another space in the Vision building and we spoke to Mal Abbas, founder of Biome Collective, who were part of the Vision Building space run by NEoN. He describes it as a great showcase for the creative community in Dundee where visitors to the city were often paraded through like a bit of a creative zoo. The space at Vision was always on a short term deal, if a full paying tenant came along then they would have to vacate. This began on a 6month notice period but as time progressed this shortened to 1 month and led to a lot of uncertainty. This was the trade off for being able to offer affordable space. West Ward Works is the last space we explore in this episode, an absolutely massive old DC Thomson print works over four floors. After it was the venue for Dundee Design Festival in 2016 conversations started to happen around the potential of the space and how it could be transformed into a creative hub for the city. It had real potential to house a massive part of Dundee's creative activities but after several delays to the Tay cities deal funding the project could not be realised. In the end it was too ambitious and needed to be able to start small and grow. Alan Cumming's wide-ranging career on stage includes playing Hamlet, starring opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Samuel Beckett's Endgame and – perhaps most notably - taking the role of the Emcee in the musical Cabaret in London and New York to great acclaim: his 1998 Broadway performance won seven awards, including a Tony. He's also appeared in films including GoldenEye and Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, and in the TV series The Good Wife. Alan was born in Perthshire in 1965. His father was a forester and the family moved to the Panmure estate on the east coast of Scotland. Encouraged by his English teacher, Alan grew up loving drama at school but his childhood was blighted by his violent and abusive father. He worked for the publisher DC Thomson as a sub-editor before going to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. There he launched his performing career with fellow student Forbes Masson: together they were Victor and Barry, a comedy and music double-act. They drew on these characters for their BBC TV sit-com The High Life, based around a fictional Scottish airline. Alan has published a novel and three memoirs: his 2014 autobiography Not My Father's Son detailed his very difficult relationship with his father, both in his early years and later in his life. In 2022 Alan is developing a solo dance-theatre work, focusing on the personal history of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, which he will perform in Scotland and New York. For our first outdoor episode media business leader and one of a kind motivational speaker Ellis Watson joins me for a walk in the Scottish Highlands.Ellis has worked at the sharp end of corporate crisis – heading a national newspaper business, turning around The Greyhound bus operation in the US and as Global CEO of Simon Cowell's Syco Corporation, before taking charge of UK media group DC Thomson. But behind his professional success is a personal story of resilience and hope. Ellis was given up for adoption as a baby and his teenage search for his birth parents ended with a truly astonishing revelation. This is a story told with humour and passion but without a scintilla of self-pity. He speaks with incredible candour about the extreme ups and downs of a career spent in the company of billionaires, one of whom was Rupert Murdoch – the boss he walked out on in a scene worthy of Succession. Ellis also reflects on the mountain top drama that almost cost him his life.Known as one of the most inspiring and entertaining keynote speakers in the country, Ellis is one of the few people to have been invited back to deliver a second TEDx talk. In this conversation he provides brilliant insights for anyone interested in how crisis can fuel and drive growth and deliver life-changing perspective.Ellis' Crisis Cures:1. Exercise – I hate the thought of doing it but afterwards it gives a sense of calm and perspective. In crisis it makes you feel like you've achieved something, no matter how modest. It makes you feel like you can take control and overcome adversity and difficulty.2. Sleep – Crisis causes you to have interrupted or poor sleep and of course when you have poor sleep you're much, much worse at handling crisis. As vicious circles go, it's about as destructive a thing as you can get.3. Dogs – I get excellent counsel and feedback from a chat with my dogs. Mine think I'm pretty clever and agree with me – especially just before they're about to get fed.Stream/Buy ‘Allies' by Some Velvet Morning: https://ampl.ink/qp6bm Some Velvet Morning Website: www.somevelvetmorning.co.uk

Steve Finan is a journalist of 40 years' standing who has made the transition to author. He is a cobwebbed and dusty expert on newspaper and magazine archives and creates football nostalgia books, mainly drawing upon the extensive material in the DC Thomson archive. One of his recent books, Celtic In The Black & White Era, features hundreds of previously unseen classic Celtic photos from the glory days. Even if you know the history... you haven't seen it like this. These photos have lain hidden in archives for 40, 50 or even 60 years. They show the great events such as the European Cup triumph of 1967, Hampden in the sun, Gil Heron's debut, the John Thomson tragedy, and the Leeds United European tie of 1970. There are also scores of behind-the-scenes photos, images of Celtic heroes of the past as you've never seen them, and “new” old photos of the great games. It is the ideal gift for any Celtic-minded person - nostalgia for those who remember, a chance to experience the halcyon days for those who don't. There's never been a Celtic book like it! In this episode, Steve and myself discuss some iconic moments in Celtic's history, reminisce about the great characters at the club, and give listeners a taste of the photographs included in the book. We also touch on some of Steve's forthcoming projects, in which Celtic feature extensively. Pass It On: funny, fascinating and useful retro household tips from the 1950s

The Pass It On column was a little bit of genius more than 50 years ago in The Sunday Post, a newspaper published in Scotland by DC Thomson. Readers would write in with household tips, such as how to get furniture dents out of carpets, how to dust behind an immovable wardrobe and – my personal favourite – how to get a dent out of a ping-pong ball. My name is Steve Finan, and I couldn’t help but be struck by how these tips tell you so much about the people making their homes in the 1950s – about what they valued, about their pride, about their inventiveness – and so we collected them into a book. Now we’re making a podcast about these tips, and the thrifty, endlessly creative people who came up with them. Hosting – and keeping me in my place! – is Connie Fleming. Connie’s a young, modern woman who has just bought her first house, so we’re going to see what she makes of the wisdom – or otherwise! – of her forebears. It’s all very useful and informative, apart from the bits that are absolutely irrelevant. To make sure you don’t miss a moment, subscribe to the show now wherever you find your podcasts!

Artist, printmaker and technician at the DCA print studio, amongst a few other things. He was one of the founders of Dundee Print Collective and has been part of many amazing projects since including print city. Scott chats about his first experience coming to Dundee from Sunderland and applying to art school with his big A1 portfolio in tow. Coming over the Tay on the train is always picturesque and it seems to have had an impact on Scott’s live as Dundee keeps drawing him back. We go on to discuss his time at art school studying illustration and exploring various printing methods. Although screen printing would go on to feature heavily in his career Scott says that he did very little of it at art school. It was more a technique that the graphic design students were using rather than the illustrators. After leaving art school Scott went off travelling but ended up back in Dundee and at the newly opened DCA. In the print studio he started to get to grips with all the kit helped by funding from the Scottish Arts Council (now Creative Scotland). This is when he really got his hands on screen printing and started up the Dundee Print Collective. Influenced by the 2013 Impact Print Conference in Dundee Scott and a couple of others decided to start up Dundee Print Collective. It’s a collective that makes and exhibits print work but anyone can get involved. You don’t have to think of yourself as ‘creative’ or have done any printmaking before to get involved. They’ve now put on 7 exhibitions with their 8th, Edition 4, coming up this month. It’s going to be their biggest exhibition yet with over 70 people getting involved. I’m even going to have a go at creating a print for it myself. It’s a really great way of dipping your toe into printmaking ad getting involved in the great stuff happening at the DCA print studio. Print City is another of the projects Scott has been part of and it was an amazing spectacle at this year’s Dundee Design Festival. Gigantic screen printed cardboard shapes locked together to create huge physical structures that you could walk in around, under and over. A new way of experiencing print making and a brilliant use of the old DC Thomson building.
