This episode is a recording of a live conversation between Thibault and Allison Schulnik, reknowned painter, ceramicist, animator, and filmmaker based out in the desert in Sky Valley, CA. They talk about trying to live a dumb phone life, being witchy, and delve into Schulnik's artistic practice. Schulnik's latest show, "Dumb Phone" was at The Pit in Los Angeles and can be found on their website. The conversation was recorded on December 12, 2024. About Allison Schulnik Allison Schulnik choreographs her subjects in compositions that embody a spirit of the macabre, a Shakespearian comedy/tragedy of love, death and farce. The subjects often stare back at the audience and study them as they are in turn studied, aware of their ancestors from the Grand Theme works of the past, the genre paintings that inform them. Although a haunting sense of foreboding, discomfort and unease is palpable, a sense of understanding, compassion and hopefulness for her cast of characters is still evident in the heavy impasto paintings. Her sculptural use of oil paint references her clay-animation background, as a motion-like sensibility affords her paintings unparalleled depth and energy. Harry's back with Flow State Episode 11. In this solo episode, Harry gets real about the undesired effects of algorithm-fueled social media scrolling and how he started reclaiming that time in his day. He answers questions about what he's currently reading, who inspires him, and who could take on the role of Harry Mack when it's time to film the story of his life. Harry also talks about getting lost in flow state and what's happening when he closes his eyes during a freestyle. After reacting to his viral Move Ya Body collaboration with Marc Rebillet, Harry sums up the episode in a freestyle so fast it outpaces the studio's wi-fi. ------- Show Notes I made my smartphone into a dumbphone - How and why https://youtu.be/DmcOtIrZ8r0?si=Uvw_SBy3rmtd5__F The Outsider by Stephen King https://bookshop.org/a/102858/9781501181009 On Writing by Stephen King https://bookshop.org/a/102858/9781982159375 Limitless by Jim Kwik https://bookshop.org/a/102858/9781401968717 Atomic Habits by James Clear https://bookshop.org/a/102858/9780735211292 How I Built This by Guy Raz https://bookshop.org/a/102858/9780358645580 Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself by Kristin Neff, PH.D. https://bookshop.org/a/102858/9780061733529 Sur Jazz: Touring The World, Music Production, The Art of DJ-ing | Flow State with Harry Mack #2 https://youtu.be/8GbD5pNSfYo Harry Mack | The Portland Show https://youtu.be/W5oOdDB-t-M?si=A6FolNqH0BRXo9ac The Best Word I've Ever Been Given | Harry Mack x Beardyman https://youtu.be/CRDfZWwT8KI Marc Rebillet's MOVE YOUR BODY FEAT. Nine out of ten people in the U.S. own a smartphone, according to the Pew Research Center. As our society becomes built around this technology, some people are nostalgic for a different time – when cell phones didn't dominate and distract us. Reset discusses the topic with CPS principal Seth Lavin, who got rid of his smartphone, and TJ Driver, co-founder of Brick, a device that disables apps on your smartphone temporarily. In this episode I discuss the realistic expectations in my opinion one might need to drop the smart phone permanently. In this episode, I reflect on the benefits of using a dumbphone for a year. That's not to say I've ditched my smartphone all together, so this is dumb phone "lite", but adding a dumb phone to the mix has been a huge benefit. Listen to find out why.

In November I switched from an iPhone to a dumb phone to promote focus and more engagement with real life. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I thought the change would be permanent. But I gave up after just a month and went crawling back to my smug little iPhone. In this episode, I'll share the thinking process that led me to pursue a low-tech solution, what I learned from the experiment, and the steps I've taken since switching back to dumb down my iPhone. It's easy to find ourselves using our phones when we don't need to be. My personal favorite is finding myself swiping through social media when I'm supposed to be heading up to bed. What are the odds what I see on there will actually help me sleep? So to help us make better tech choices we're going to talk today about how we make our smart phone into a dumb phone. We'll also talk a little about how to have the smart-phone conversation with our kiddos (spoiler alert: No individual devices before 10th birthday, and no smart phones before 16). We'll address four ways we can make a dumb phone: 1) set our phone to grayscale 2) turn off all notifications 3) take email off our phones 4) remove all social media apps
In this episode, Vince and Max chat with California Native, and entrepreneur extraordinaire David Bates about how to start a company at 23, what it's like to travel the world on Googles dime, smuggling "equipment" into Cuba, and how to do a "Dumb Phone" campaign.
