2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV) // But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. Psalm 16:11 // You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Ephesians 1:16-18 // I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. Let's be honest—most of us really don't want to talk about envy. It's uncomfortable, it feels icky, and it brings up all sorts of emotions we'd rather not face. You know we love to talk about jealousy, but understanding envy, especially how it differs from jealousy, can also be incredibly valuable for relational and personal growth. In this episode, we talk about:— The difference between envy and jealousy, and why we often conflate them— How envy involves comparing ourselves to others and breaking people down into parts rather than seeing them as whole humans— The underlying sense of unfairness that fuels envy and how it can become destructive— Why envy can be both a powerful motivator and a path to self-destruction— How envy shows up specifically in non-monogamous relationships, especially when it appears alongside jealousy— The way envy can point us toward our genuine wants and desires if we're willing to examine it— How envy can be valuable individuation material that helps us understand our values and what we truly want— The destructive potential of envy in relationships and communities when left unexamined— Practical ways to work with envy when it arises, including using it as information rather than letting it control our actions— The importance of considering not just what we envy in others, but whether we're willing to do what it takes to achieve similar outcomesResources mentioned in this episode:— Cinderella and Her Sisters: The Envied and the Envying by Ann and Barry Ulanov— What is Compersion? by Marie Thouin— The Drama Triangle concept by Stephen KarpmanJOIN The Year of Opening® community for a full year of learning & support. Four weeks from Good Friday, we journey through scriptures that parallel Joseph's betrayal by his brothers with Christ's rejection by the Pharisees, discovering that at their core, both stemmed from the same deadly sin: envy of another's status and position. Our social media landscape has engineered this sin to operate on an unprecedented scale. Each notification, each like, each follower count directly feeds our craving for human respect and validation. The reflection candidly acknowledges how even creating spiritual content isn't immune to these temptations—the pressure to craft clickable titles, engaging thumbnails, and discussion-generating topics that prioritize audience engagement over authentic spiritual purpose. This meditation challenges us to combat envy through deliberate action: performing acts of service that truly cost us something—not necessarily money, but time, effort, and comfort—while intentionally receiving no recognition for them. These hidden sacrifices directly counter our cultural obsession with being seen and appreciated. As we approach the commemoration of Christ's ultimate sacrifice, what better spiritual practice than to serve others without the dopamine hit of public acknowledgment? Take this weekend to perform one meaningful act that no one will ever attribute to you, and experience the freedom that comes from breaking the chains of comparison and validation-seeking. In this week's episode -- the ninth episode in our "overcomers" series -- we will discuss how to overcome envy/jealousy, my personal struggles with envy and what the Lord has taught me about envy. The scripture discussed this week: Proverbs 14:30, James 3:16, Psalms 17:13-15, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Romans 8:32 and 1 Corinthians 13:4.
There's a moment we all face—the hesitation before hitting ‘post.' The fear of saying the wrong thing. The pressure to appear polished, professional, perfect. But what does it really take to show up online—not just to be seen, but to be fully yourself? Our guest, Susan Hyatt, knows this better than most. She built her business in the Wild West of social media—back when MySpace ruled and Facebook was invite-only. At first, she played by the rules: look the part, say the right things, avoid ruffling feathers. But the moment she stopped filtering herself? Everything changed. So, if fear has ever held you back from speaking up, showing up, or building the life you actually want—this episode might just change the way you see yourself. Let's dive in. In this episode, we cover: (00:00) Introduction (1:15) Imposing rules on how you can show up online (5:35) What authenticity looks like (10:36) Vulnerability hangover (11:47) The work behind showing up audaciously (14:34) People's opinions of you (19:02) Judging others online (21:04) Envying others online (26:50) Cheryl's favorite content from Susan (28:40) How women hold themselves back from showing up online (30:46) Professionalism (32:16) Being willing to try (36:38) Letting opportunities slip right past you (40:28) NOT letting opportunities slip right past you (44:50) Actionable takeaways Connect with Cheryl Lau Website: https://cheryllau.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cheryltheory Newsletter: https://cheryllau.com/email Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cheryltheory LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cheryllau Connect with Susan Hyatt Website: https://susanhyatt.co Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susanhyatt Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/susan.ohyatt YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@SusanHyatt/videos Podcast: You've Got Nerve Free Resource for Podcasters THE PODCAST CONTENT AUDIT: Build a differentiated and timeless body of work Audit 9 different parts of your podcast content strategy Identify the specific areas you can improve on right away to set your podcast apart from the rest Get the Audit here: https://cheryllau.com/audit Contact Please email hello@cheryllau.com for business inquiries.

Do you ever catch yourself scrolling, comparing, and thinking, “If only I had what they do”? You're not alone. In this episode, we're getting real about grass is greener syndrome — the constant pursuit of “better” that leaves us feeling stuck and ungrateful. Whether it's relationships, career, or just life in general, this mindset can steal your joy and disconnect you from what God has for you right now. We'll break down the symptoms, share biblical truth and talk about how to stop chasing “perfect” and start living content. Let's shift our focus and reclaim our peace in Jesus. As God's creation, all humanity is showered with God's blessings on a daily basis. And for those who are redeemed, the Lord bestows eternal blessings in Christ. Yet often Christians become distracted and dismiss God's goodness in their lives. Luke Tackett's podcast series this week is a needed reminder to be thankful for “The Blessings of God.”

About Lisa Dahl: Lisa Dahl is a Certified Health and Well-Being Coach specializing in Intuitive Eating, Mindful Eating, and Body Image. In addition, she is also host of the TV show and Podcast, Getting Healthy Without Rules. Her hallmark emphasis on mindfulness and self-compassion helps women find a successful pathway to whole-body wellness. She supports her clients as they discover "Body Peace & Food Freedom" on their journey to break free from dieting and diet culture. Her clients achieve a higher level of well-being as Lisa guides them through visioning, goal setting, and accountability. What We Discuss In This Episode: Become the expert on your own needs and desires instead of following external diet rules. Signs of being negatively affected by diet culture. Body checking and comparing yourself to others. Praising before/after weight loss pictures. Most people regain weight, so "after" pictures are often future "before" pictures. Envying those who restrict food better. Ways to challenge diet culture's influence. Become aware of actions, behaviors, and thoughts. Awareness helps regain power. Create believable new thoughts to replace negative self-talk. Use phrases like "I am learning to appreciate" instead of "I accept" if not yet true. Focus on how activities make you feel good, not how many calories they burn. Body image and age Many regret not improving body image and intuitive eating earlier. It's never too late to start. Health is most important, not weight. Weighing yourself Lisa doesn't weigh clients and suggests throwing the scale out the window. Weighing can be triggering, even for a coach. Think about only allowing measuring weight for true medical need. You can decline weighing at doctor for non-critical reasons. Focus on measuring happiness, anxiety reduction, etc. rather than weight. Intuitive eating tips Ask: "What am I feeling?" and "What do I need?" Name emotions beyond "stressed" or "overwhelmed" using emotion app. Food is the messenger, not the enemy. Meet needs in other ways too. Sagittarius season is underway with expansive energies this week that could also feel overwhelming, ungrounded, and amplified, especially with Neptune stationing direct on Dec 6 at nearly 25 degrees Pisces. The Sun trines Chiron RX in Aries at 15 degrees on Dec 7, the same day as Mercury in Capricorn trines Jupiter RX in Taurus at 6 degrees, giving you a sense of what is important to focus on and to follow where the energy is guiding you forward with a new trust in yourself. A healed perspective may be coming into view. Venus in Scorpio meets up with Pallas Athena at 9 deg Scorpio on Dec 12, opposing Jupiter RX in Taurus, revealing what has been out of balance that takes you away from your self-worth or creative urge, including jealousy, envy, or competition. The Sagittarius New Moon at 21 degrees coincides with Mercury stationing retrograde at 8 deg Capricorn, where you may be feeling inspired to begin a new adventure while assessing more of the particulars and path ahead. In this episode, we consider the reign of Tar-Atanamir, the 13th ruler of Númenor. We learn here that Atanamir was given the epithet “The Great”. Yet we also learn that he was given another - “The Unwilling”.I have to admit, it's not entirely clear to me why Tar-Atanamir deserved to be called “The Great”, though I will explore that issue in this episode. And we will certainly discuss why he was called “The Unwilling.”At the end of the day, one thing is for certain: Atanamir's reign was of major consequence for the people of Númenor, as his long for immortality began to sow the seeds of discontent, restlessness, and malice toward the Eldar, the Valar, and ultimately Ilúvatar Himself.Join us!WATCH THE VIDEO » https://youtu.be/fXPQG4LYlGYWATCH AD-FREE » https://www.patreon.com/posts/ad-free-video-of-92694652LISTEN AD-FREE » https://www.patreon.com/posts/tar-atanamirs-of-92694956EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS:- Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien- John R- SaberSystems- Melkor27- KGFOLLOW & SUPPORT THE TOLKIEN ROAD:PATREON » SUPERFANS!TWITTERFACEBOOKINSTAGRAMLINKS & MATHOMS:- take 10% OFF Tolkien Road merch at True Myths Press » https://truemythspress.com/discount/TENOFF (enter code TENOFF at checkout)- listen to TOLKIEN'S WORKS for FREE » https://www.audibletrial.com/everon- buy Tolkien's Requiem » https://tolkiensrequiem.com/ - buy Tolkien's Overture » https://tolkiensoverture.com/SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING PATRONS:- John R- Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien- SaberSystems- Melkor27- KG- Emilio P- Jonathan D- Richard K- Robert H- Paul D- Julia- Werty- JoeBagelMan- Matt R- John W- Eugene D- AlaskanMoose31- Chris B- Daniel S- Cory C- Carolyn S- Emiel K- Seb M- Ms. Anonymous- Andrew T- Redhawk- Shannon S- Brian O- Zeke F- James L- Chris L- Asya V- Ish of the Hammer- Teresa C- David of Pints with Jack- Eric BAS WELL AS THOSE CELEBRATING THEIR PATRON ANNIVERSARY IN NOVEMBER OF 2023- Paige H- Matthew F- Michael L- AlaskanMoose31- Brian H- Chris B- Daniel SThank you so much for sticking with us over the years!!!

A carnal mind is not identified by sins and vices, but by how we interact with other people. Envying, strife, and divisions are the evidence presented in this Scripture to convict these people of being carnally-minded. Having a checklist of bad habits, vices, and other things we abstain from does not certify us as spiritually-minded. Our attitudes toward others and the way we esteem them reveals whether we are carnal or spiritual. The carnal mind is enmity with God, and is not subject to God, so Webster was right when he defined "carnal" as "unregenerate." Such sobering facts demand an honest assessment of ourselves.
Asaph is reflecting on a turning point in his life. Asaph was a righteous worship leader who was derailed by an envious heart. He went on his Instagram and Lindedin and was overcome with envy over how successful and comfortable others seemed to be. He looked at all that he had committed his life to: faith, righteousness and praise- and he grew resentment against it all. "All in vain have I kept my heart clean" Asaph says. We see how destructive this is but we then see the turning point in his life: WORSHIP with the PEOPLE of GOD. He felt this way "until I went into the sanctuary of God." Then everything changed.

I've recently gotten in touch with my own inner feelings of envy, which I've repressed for a long time out of shame and self-judgement. But I do have those feelings at times and in this episode I'll talk about how I'm working through them along with old wounds that have led me to believe I'm not good enough. I've turned to the Greater Good Science Center for some of their recommendations to help me out (https://greatergood.berkeley.edu). Here are the steps I'm taking to work through these uncomfortable feelings: Admit that they are present. Recognize that it's okay to feel disappointment and pain when things don't work out the way I had hoped. Explore my expectations and attachments to a particular outcome. Cultivate compassion and joy for other people who are succeeding in ways that I am not. Focus on ways that I can grow or change. Be grateful for all that I have. Why Burnout? It was literally one thing after another in just a span of one year. I was always a mover and a goer. Until I saw the signs that were so unlike me—being insensitive, not caring about anything, apathetic. I thought burnout was like a BS excuse of weak people, but it happens to anyone. Burnout Red Flags Compiled stress manifesting physically, mentally, emotionally, spritually and socially like unnecessary road rage, snapping at people, drinking too much, zoning out, anxiety, immune issues like eczema, rash, etc, depression. The list is endless. Mindset Shifts Tips Burnout is something you have to work out every single day—making small, consistent changes, and mindset shifts. Some Mindset Shift Practices: Decode your flow. Stop doing everything. Figure out what you really want to do. Do a "love it or leave it" test. Slow down to speed up. Find the balance of slowing down and speeding up to give your body time to recover and recuperate. Tips: Turn the music off in your car for some time. Practice the Coco Chanel takeoff on your schedule or to-do list. Release the reigns. Practice letting go of the urge to micromanage and let someone else do it. Pivot like a pro. Instead of being destination-focused, focused on being able to pivot and move with agility. Signs that you need to pivot: Envying a person or a situation, often making jokes about someone or something. Take a victory lap. Focus on gratitude, the progress, the small wins. It's the small little pieces that we deal with every single day that affect us more. If you're making progress throughout your day, you end up feeling good about yourself. Tips: Create a 'wins' folder in your email and file emails that say nice simple things. How do you start a Mindset Shift off from a Burnout When you're feeling flustered or burnout or just not yourself, stop and ask: what is better for my health right now? Take the moment to answer that question. The world is not gonna end if you don't jump to the next thing on your list right away. Erin's Best Medicine: Slow down to speed up. Trying to be ok with doing less.

Matthew 20:1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. 2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? 7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. 8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. 9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. 10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. 11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, 12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. 13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? 14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? 16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.— — —Watch/Listen here using our Subsplash WebShare Playerhttps://subspla.sh/kqnwjn7Listen here on Archive.orghttps://archive.org/download/050122-pm-facebook-stream/050122PM-FacebookStream.mp3
One of the most popular fairy tales, Cinderella, especially as told by Grimm, contains two major themes. So, we've split our analysis into 2 parts. This second episode speaks of the dehumanizing power of envy. There is a brief recap of the story at the 2:00 mark. We'll be reading from Household Tales by Brothers Grimm Adina also recommends: Cinderella and her Sisters: The Envied and Envying by Ann Belford Ulanov, Barry Ulanov The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales (Pantheon Fairy Tale And Folklore Library). If attempting to purchase this, be sure it says, "with Padraic Colum (intro) and Joseph Campbell (commentary) and James Scharl (illustr)". We can not simultaneously look down our nose on other people and fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of our faith. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. ²⁶ Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. - Galatians 5:25-26
