The 4 Disciplines of Execution: Achieving Your Wildly Important GoalsExcel Still More JournalOkay, my new friend Rich Howe, from Richmond TX, has turned me on to a great new book. It is designed for business and company leaders, but it includes timeless principles. I see application for the individual, the family, the church, and business. All that is required of you going in is an Excel Still More mentality. You just have to desire to see better. And you have to be open to a better way of getting there. The proven wisdom of these four principles is repeated all over. But will it's next success story be yours? - What is a wildly important goal and how do you focus on it?- What are lead measures and how do I confidently identify them?- How do you construct and keep a compelling scoreboard along the way?- How can a cadence of accountability keep you moving straight to your goal?- What is one area of your life where you will implement these strategies today?
1 Thessalonians 4:1-12 (NASB) 1 Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk ), that you excel still more. 2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. 8 So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you. 9 Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; 10 for indeed you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, 12 so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need. Excel Still More:1) In your walk with Christ (4:1-2)2) In your purity (4:3-8)3) In your love (4:9-12)
Please take a moment and check out the Balancing the Christian Life Conference. It goes live as an online experience on July 27th through 29th.If you are interested in the Excel Still More 3 Month Journal mentioned in today's episode, you can order through the link provided. I hope you'll go on this journey with me today of shrinking the idea lifetime into the form of a single day of living. The similarities are clear. But each day is more valuable than just building blocks to some desired future. The goals of a desired future work best when infused into every single day. I don't want to enjoy the fruit of devoted days one day later... I wanted to enjoy every single day right now!- How is each day of life a microcosm of a lifetime? - Can you detail what priority list you'd like to see over your lifetime?- How can you infuse each day with the same balance you'd desire for your life?- Have you tried directional journaling? Where you address God and plan a good day?- Are you willing to live in day tight increments for today's benefit as well as tomorrow?
Today was a trip down memory lane for me. I listened to the very first episode of Excel Still More: Just Get Better. That episode drew a little bit of criticism in the early days for sounding like another way of packaging work based salvation. I filed that away as something to consider but I just wasn't in a place in my life to see it.I've learned a lot since then. I trust you have as well. So I was ready to go back and listen and be woefully embarrassed. It turns out... it wasn't too bad. And I stand behind the content. But it did omit some needful elements of God's grace driving us and protecting us. And a clearer message that perfect so as to be blessed by God is not the goal, because by our own power, such a thing is unattainable. I'd address some of that in the episode today. But also, I want us all to see that our imperfections are always before us. Sometimes we get things right. But often times we may do the right thing with the wrong motives. Other times our motives are pure and we miss the mark on actions. All of us need to grow and change and learn. But, only closeness to God can help. Only His power, His grace, His Spirit, and His wisdom given to us can make us good. Let's grow closer to God. A cool byproduct is that people who thing they will never come together may find each other at His feet. - Why is "Excel Still More" a better idea to carry than simply "Just Get Better"?- How is the pursuit of better sometimes a path to pride and further from God?- Why is pursuing closeness to God the only way to be saved and grow in faith?- Why is both "right wrong" and "wrong right" often a part of our path?- How can we have confidence if "right right" is so hard to attain and keep?
Gordon Elder DCCJP At the time of the recording (September 2022), Dr. Elder ha just finished a three-year program that, because of COVID, ended up being a four-year program. It was a 300-hour program for a post-doctorate degree in health for the brainstem, the craniocervical junction. The title is Diplomate. It's a DCCJP, Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures. The course was divided up into 12-hour weekends that were held in several different cities. They ran all day Saturday and half the day on Sunday, usually once a month for nine months of the year. It's a post-doctorate degree. A chiropractor can't call themself a specialist in anything unless they have a Diplomate in an approved program. The beginning was a basic deep-dive, then it moved on to remind you what you had learned in school and more. Then on to the limits of research and current research. The brainstem is the first thing that starts working at conception, that's the first part that's formed and it's the last part that stops working when you die. It's based at the base of the skull and the top of the neck. You cannot be alive if your brainstem is not functional.Dr. Elder likes to work together with other specialists to resolve complicated cases, as opposed to just hoping that what he does eventually works. He says this about the DCCJP community, “ What I've noticed here is when you get people who are super dedicated to advancing, you realize how much you know and how much you don't know. How much somebody else may be-- what knowledge they may have. You don't have the time, background, or expertise to become experts in every field. You're happy to refer out and work together with other specialists and true specialists, not just somebody else who knows a little something. Really work together with other specialists to resolve the complicated cases instead of just hoping that what you do eventually works.”Excel Still More. Dr. Elder plans to continue learning and doing some research now that he has time. He says about the Diplomate, “ It's given me the knife and the fork and told me where the food is, and now I can go get the food and start working on it.”To contact Ruth, go to https://www.blairclinic.comruth@blairclinic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/rutelin
When I decided to put together an episode on coaching, I wanted to get two preachers who knew the topic — from both a sports perspective and a church perspective. I definitely got the right men. Kris Emerson is the preacher for the church of Christ in Lindale, Texas, and the host of the Excel Still More podcast. Terry Francis preaches for the church of Christ in Chelsea, Alabama, and partners with Phillip Martin to host the Do The Work live stream on Facebook. Timothy had Paul. Paul had Barnabas. We all have mentors, and we should all be mentors to others. That's the way we keep the gospel alive and vibrant for succeeding generations. How does mentoring work in the Lord's church, and how can we make it work better? Hal Hammons is the preacher for the Lakewoods Drive church of Christ in Georgetown, Texas. He is the host of the Citizen of Heaven podcast. You are encouraged to seek him and the Lakewoods Drive church through Facebook and other social media. Lakewoods Drive is an autonomous group of Christians dedicated to praising God, teaching the gospel to all who will hear, training Christians in righteousness, and serving our God and one another faithfully. We believe the Bible is God's word, that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, that heaven is our home, and that we have work to do here while we wait. Regular topics of discussion and conversation include: Christians, Jesus, obedience, faith, grace, baptism, New Testament, Old Testament, authority, gospel, fellowship, justice, mercy, faithfulness, forgiveness, Twenty Pages a Week, Bible reading, heaven, hell, virtues, character, denominations, submission, service, character, COVID-19, assembly, Lord's Supper, online, social media, YouTube, Facebook.
I'm currently leading a study on Meet-Up. We're going through 1 and 2 Thessalonians. I'm calling the study Excel Still More. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 caught my attention with what Paul asked pray for from the saints! It's something we need to be praying about as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/icdbenjaminlee/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/icdbenjaminlee/support

I have two guests with me to share their insights — and if they choose, their feelings as well. Kris Emerson is host of the Excel Still More podcast and preacher for the Lindale church of Christ. Steve Wolfgang is the evangelist for the Downer's Grove church of Christ in suburban Chicago. Maybe it's the holidays, Maybe it's my new son-in-law. In any case, I've been spending a lot of time recently thinking about taking people on the outside and bringing them inside, creating blessings for host and visitor alike. This week we will discuss Biblical hospitality and Abraham's example; barriers we may be erecting to keep brethren at a distance; the blessings that my guests have brought to the podcast; and how getting everything you want rarely comes from taking everything you can. The twelfth installment by Pastor James T. Egan entitled "Excel Still More" in the series "The First Epistle To The Thessalonians"
Is the internet the irresistible and desirable future for the church, or is it the church’s doom? What are “social influencers,” who are they influencing, and for what purpose? We cover this and more in the second half of my conversation with Kris Emerson and Dr. Kenny Embry. Kris preaches for the Lindale church of Christ in Lindale, Texas, and hosts the Excel Still More podcast. Kenny is an associate professor of communication at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida, and hosts the “Balancing the Christian Life” podcast.
It’s a new world out there, for better or worse. And the internet is its university, its playground, and its courtroom. There’s no point in pretending otherwise. We will explore the pros and cons of the internet with my two guests. Kris Emerson preaches for the Lindale church of Christ in Lindale, Texas, and hosts the Excel Still More podcast. Dr. Kenny Embry is an associate professor of communication at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida. In part 1, we discuss the echo chamber effect we experience online; and we consider the profound effects, both positive and negative, social media is having on our lives.
The Excel Still More podcast is heavily invested in self improvement. We want these episodes to help you be disciplined, make great decisions, and reap incredible benefit. But let's be clear, none of this works if I am only concerned with myself and my growth. A much more rewarding goal is to help others around you grow. What if you could make changes that are designed to create an environment for change? As a result, not only do you grow, but you make it possible from every member of you family to grow with you? - How does the rising tide life all boats?- Should you focus more on that tide or on your own boat?- What happens when people invest in environments that are better for all?- Why is focus on just myself a big miss when it comes to Christianity?- How can you make change possible for your family, your church, your friends, along with yourself?

Megan from the Wild Healers podcast asks, "Is it possible for an independent podcast to make it into the Apple New and Noteworthy section?"Special thanks to Kris Emerson, host of the Excel Still More podcast, for sharing his experience getting into the New and Noteworthy section.TL;DRThe Apple Podcasts New and Noteworthy section is a common goal for new podcasters. The appeal is that if you can get your podcast listed there, you'll be able to grow your audience faster, build momentum, and ride that wave off into the sunset of your podcasting dreams.So... how exactly do you get in? In this episode, we'll share what we know and ask Kris, a fellow Buzzsprout podcaster, what he did to land in the New and Noteworthy section. What's the best strategy? The best way to get into the Apple New and Noteworthy section is to focus on getting a lot of listeners to subscribe to your show in Apple Podcasts in a short period of time. As a new podcast, your window to make this happen is typically 90 days from when you launch your first episode. At one point, many podcasters believed that it was the number of downloads or reviews you received that got you in the N&N section. But over time, as we've seen podcasters try and game the system, we've found that those aren't big indicators.Apply isn't spilling the beans on their process any time soon, but we DO know that an algorithm based on how many subscribers you get feeds possible selections to an Apple employee who ultimately determines how makes it in and who doesn't.Record your podcasting question at Speakpipe.com/Buzzsprout to be featured on a future episode.Review Podcasting Q&A in Podchaser to let us know what you think of the show.
What's the difference between a podcast about the Bible and a sermon recycled as a podcast? Craig and Stuart sit down with Kris Emerson. He's a preacher, blog writer, and well-known as the host of the Excel Still More podcast. They talk with him about his experience producing 100+ podcast episodes (and counting), get his thoughts on “digital evangelism”, and pick his brain about the variety of ways that he's been using media to reach people with the gospel - and its sometimes unexpected results!Support the show (https://appianmedia.org/membership/)
Welcome to Season 2! Last year we collected 82 episodes designed to help you grow in faith, deepen relationships and get the most out of the life God has given you. Now, we head into this New Year ready to use all of that experience to reach new heights! Firstly, you have to decide who you want to become. What does a better you look like? Secondly, you must be specific, in terms of a goal to reach that proves that commitment. Then, you pray for God to provide the pieces that you need to get there. Finally, if you can build a successful, stress free, month of progress, and repeat 12 times: you will be standing on that new and higher platform by year's end! Let's discuss how all of that works, and get moving into a beautiful year to Excel Still More!
We will discuss the myth of “priorities.” Thinking we can balance commitments to money and the Lord is wrongheaded, and doomed to tip to the wrong side.We will discuss Barbarians at the Gate, a book that details the buyout of RJR Nabisco. When making money is the only objective, there’s no limit to how insane the behavior can get.We will discuss professional athletes and their contracts. Measuring men by their wallets is par for the course in sports. That’s not the kind of role model we need these days.We will discuss London, a board game in which you are forced to balance a growing economy with the real problems that it creates. Turns out, more prosperity is not necessarily better.
Is anybody else sporting a terrible memory? Oh man, I'm probably the worst I've ever met, but I can't remember. Seriously, forgetting names, ideas, points, tasks, the names of my children... it's a big deal. But, the work still needs to be done, you know? Names still need to be recalled. Duties still need to be carried out. The Lord's work still needs to be done. Enter a life hack: Write it down! No matter a digital or paper tool, create an environment for success by documenting things you will need later. This is a crucial step in the Excel Still More life and this episode will dig in on how that all works out. - Do you have a poor memory? Do you forget people, places and things with ease?- Are we still held responsible for things we forgot- So how can we keep track of new information and current, daily goals- What are the direct benefits of documenting ideas and how do we do it.- What are the top 5 (or so) things we ought to consider writing down daily

Whether you have the journal or have never heard of it, you will hopefully be encouraged by this potential tool to assist in a morning ritual of prayer, Bible reading and essentialism planning!- How to enjoy every morning of your life- How to embrace the mercies of Jesus which are new every morning- How to find joy in remembering the past but holding zero guilt about it!- How to use the ESM Journal to set a great day in motion- How to use the Journal to stay updated on goals throughout the week

I have been preaching … about making plans. If you can plan for a family vacation or a comfy retirement, why not also plan to grow your faith?I have been reading … Psalm 88, arguably the saddest chapter in the Bible. But even though the psalm doesn’t say so, there is a reason for your suffering. In fact, there may be several.I have been hearing … Game of Thrones is done after 8 seasons — and unlike some Christians, I actually think that’s a good thing. I have been playing … The Voyages of Marco Polo, and it makes me wonder whether superheroes ever get jealous of one another.
Simon Sinek wrote the book "Start with Why." It discusses businesses and advertising and how the proper use of "the Golden Circle" makes all the difference. If you can learn the same strategy and apply it in your daily tasks and goals, you too can see incredible differences in your achievements. We often work from the outside in: WHAT do I want to happen? Then we decide: HOW can I make that happen? But we rarely spend time considering the most important question of all: WHY is any of this important to me? When if we Start with Why, we can let action grow out of passion. And that produces the most astounding and consistent results! To learn how to find your Why and see where that can go, check out today's Excel Still More episode.- How can Simon Sinek's book "Start with Why" help you reach your goals?- Why do people who know what they want often times comes short of it?- How does the Golden Circle help us see goal achievement in a new way?- How do you find your passion and then use that passion to do great things?- What are the limits to your production if you are driven by clear purpose?
