We love our Patreon supporters, and this week we want to especially thank Jamie, Steph, Kaitlyn, Lorry, Kaylin, and Julianne. Also, we have a special offer running for the rest of the month! If you join at any reward level before March 31, you'll receive a free (and exclusive) enamel pin! We'd also like to give a big thank you to this week's sponsor, LoganArch! Check out their Chicago-based shop for all of your geeky and nostalgic needs. This week we're very excited to chat with Sean Chappell about his upcoming Kickstarter game: HIVERNATION.HIVERNATION is a 2 player abstract strategy game based on the behavior of bees who, just before winter, kick out all the Drone bees so that the majority of the hive can survive the winter and emerge strong in the spring. (Harsh, but true!)In the game, each player gets a stack of 20 double-sided bee tiles (Workers on one side, Drones on the other) and 3 specialty tiles chosen at random. (For hardcore strategists, each player receives the same kind of specialty tiles.) The Queen Zizi tile goes in the center of the play space and players take turns laying tiles beside her, building the hive. Players continue playing tiles beside Queen Zizi or their own bee tiles until the two sides meet. Once they do, players can start converting their opponents tiles to their own by sandwiching their opponents tiles between their own and flipping over those caught in the middle. Also, players can use their specialty tiles to change game play by either flipping tiles in a ring, preventing tiles from being flipped or removing them from the game all together.Ultimately, the player with the most tiles face up is the winner. Will it be Drones or Workers? There's only one way to find out, and that's by backing the HIVERNATION Kickstarter on April 13.Please follow Ramstar Games for future gaming projects, too! Website · Facebook · Instagram · Twitter · TabletopiaSpecial thanks to our executive producers for this episode Geeklery, LoganArch and Karen Hallion. If you enjoyed this episode, you might love the rest of our episodes! In this episode, host Nalin talks with Sam and Tyler from Ejected Planet about the creation and marketing process for Dice Command and how they’re planning on growing their brand. How they converted people they met on Instagram through playtesting experiences into backers and fans. Check out their whole experience launch and getting fully funded!  We discuss:   [01:37]: Launching a board game experience through Tabletopia. [06:37]: Using playtesting and social media organic relationships as a pre-launch marketing strategy. [11:19]: Most of their backers came from the “notification follow” subscriber. This method was extremely effective although publishing it months in advance.  [18:17]: Getting reviews and promotion from small and medium-sized influencers and YouTubers can help your game reach out to a smaller but more tight together community. [23:14]: It’s absolutely possible to DIY your campaign page, but the most important thing is to research thoroughly what other campaigns in the same niche have done.  [26:21]: Never leave a page and social channels without updates! Try to keep people hyped up by the upcoming launch the weeks prior to it. [28:47]: Using conventions offline and online throughout the middle days of the campaign and how it converted to actual backers. [35:03]: Organic reach out was the best marketing strategy: giving people the chance to actually play the game and get feedback on it.  [39:04]: How they’re planning on moving forward with the brand and what they’ve learned from this first experience. [40:43]: How you can get in touch with Ejected Planet.   Thanks for listening to the Board Game Marketing Podcast!  Ejected Planet website: https://www.ejectedplanet.com/  Ejected Planet Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ejectedplanet/  Ejected Planet Twitter: https://twitter.com/ejectedplanet   For more information on how to market your game, be sure to check out the Meeple Marketing Blog.

Omari joins us to talk about what it means to be a game publisher, how he got started, and some of what it takes to bring a game idea to fruition (a vision, patience, feedback, and perseverance). We discuss the importance of bringing diverse voices to game publishing and what’s next on the horizon for Board Game Brothas.  Omari and his brother created the game Rap Godz in 2018. Omari shares the genesis story of the game, and why it was important for him and his brother to keep creative control and self-publish. After its first successful Kickstarter campaign, they are now taking pre-orders for the second printing in 2021. Omari is also preparing for the launch of their second title: Hoop Godz, which launches on October 21, 2020. In the past few years, Ludology has recorded a live episode at Gen Con. We weren't going to let a global pandemic stop us this year!  Recorded as part of Gen Con Online 2020, Emma, Gil, and Scott streamed this recording live on Twitch. We had an excellent turnout in the chat, and everyone seemed to really enjoy this new twist on Ludology Live! You can watch unedited video of this chat here. It's possible we may return to this format in the future! Stay tuned… SHOW NOTES 1m54s: We mention Gil's Twitch channel several times in this episode. 2m13s: Of course, this note to turn it tickets doesn't apply to people listening to the podcast. Don't let that note trigger any vague feelings of guilt! Also, for reference, we began recording at 5 pm EDT. 3m29s: "This much on the timeline" - at this point, Gil is holding up his finger and thumb with a few centimeters of space in between. 4m46s: Scott is holding up a Gamemaster DVD at this point. 5m40s: You can watch the Gen Con Gamemaster panel here. 6m01s: The shot in question (no Gil to be found, sadly). 7m16s: Alas, neither the Instagram Live nor Table Takes interviews are archived anywhere. :( 8m36s: Remote Playtesting (#rpt) is the playtest group that Gil helps to run. You can see and buy the t-shirt with Aaron Wilson's logo here. 8m54s: Aaron's new publishing company with Ian Zang, Gravitation Games. 9m55s: Here's Scott's quarantine playlist. 10m10s: Abandon All Artichokes 11m43s: High Rise is almost sold out! And Rival Networks pre-orders are still going strong. 12m02s: Check-In Cards. 12m37s: Here's the video for Animal Crossing Fiasco. More info for one of Gil's favorite games, De Vulgari Eloquentia. 14m38s: draw.io, a collaboration tool that Emma really likes. 14m56s: Here's a tweet that sums up Emma's game Unravel quite well. Emma also mentions the Our Innermost Thoughts Kickstarter project by Travis Hill. 18m27s: More info on the Tabletop Mentorship Program. 18m42s: Glenn Cotter's Fickle. 22m01s: Gil presented a lot of these thoughts in this blog post. 25m47s: The "G" Gil is trying to point to would be a fraction of a millimeter large in most screens. 26m21s: There will be another Virtual Gaming Con in November. 32m59s: GenCan't has been an online alternative to Gen Con for several years now. 36m21s: Here is an example of BuonoCardboard making the rounds. 39m27s: Scott's 50th episode of Biography of a Board Game just dropped, and it's wonderful! He covers the history of his own game, Rayguns and Rocketships.  40m24s: We at Ludology were all touched by Marcel Claxton's thoughtful analysis of Ludology's recent direction and its significance in the current age.  43m21s: Jason Morningstar appeared in Ludology 161 - What's The Story Morning Glory? 50m32s: There aren't many board games about falling in love, but quite a few digital and RPGs! (Gil would also like to suggest wargames and games coming out of that historical/political sphere as the board game parallel to documentaries.) 59m34s: For those who may not have heard of it, the MacArthur Fellows Program is awarded to 20-30 Americans every year who show "extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction." Between the high criteria for being named and the generous amount of money received ($625,000), it's nicknamed the "Genius Grant." 1h03m49s: Emma mentions a few tools here: Tabletop Simulator, Tabletopia, Trello, and Slack. 1h06m25s: At this point, Scott holds up a Playstation controller. 1h14m57s: This Discord Has Ghosts In It. 1h17m57s: Scott's links: his blog, his Patreon, his Twitter, and his Instagram. 1h18m54s: Emma's links: her website, her Twitter, and her Instagram. 1h19m28s: Gil's links: his company website, his personal website, his Twitter, and his Twitch.

It's an Arkham Horror love-fest when Conor and Adrian join the show! The team hits the ground running with some important breaking news before launching into their Sizzling Games for the week. Conor and his partner have been working through Machi Koro Legacy, Adrian explores the card drafting mage-maker that it Res Arcana, and Steve falls in love all over again with Terraforming Mars.   Many of our listeners in Australia and overseas are still in isolation so the team discusses the pros and cons of playing boardgames online - specifically TableTop Simulator. How does it compare to Tabletop Arena, Tabletopia, or even dedicated gaming apps? With more virtual gaming conventions on the horizon, and even our regular online gaming on the BoardGame BBQ Discord, we discuss the easiest ways to overcome the entry barriers and get amongst the online gaming action.   The Board Game Bracket is going off! We resolve the match-up of Sheriff of Nottingham vs Great Western Trail, before Conor and Adrian go toe-to-toe in two separate battles: Spyfall vs It's A Wonderful World, and Arkham Horror (3rd Edition) vs Mysterium. And finally Adrian and Conor get to join forces to pump up Arkham Horror: The LCG, while poor Inis goes unsupported. Or does it?   In our Kickstarter segment Conor has backed Dead Reckoning and is eyeing off The Shivers and Perseverance. Meanhile, Adrian has backed the dice-drafting game Daimyo: Rebirth of the Empire.   We never thought it would happen, but Steve finally has a clean slate by fulfilling his oaths on Ecos: First Continent and Forgotten Waters. In fact, it's clean slates all 'round because Adrian brought Deep Madness back to the table (but found that his gaming tastes have changed since buying it), and Conor fulfilled his oath by playing SteamRollers (even if it was a few hours before he started recording). The team then swear fresh oaths by committing to Chronicles of Crime (Adrian), Euphoria: Build A Better Dystopia (Conor), and in a dramatic podcast-definig twist - Arkham Horror: LCG (Steve).   The News: (1:10) Sizzling Games: Machi Koro Legacy (2:08), Res Arcana (13:52), Terraforming Mars (25:30) Topic of the Week: TableTop Simulator (35:18) Board Game Bracket (52:52) Kickstarter (1:14:50) Swear An Oath (1:20:22)   **BOARDGAMEBBQ.COM** Board Game BBQ | Board Game Podcast      boardgamebbq.com Head on over to the Board Game BBQ website for links to previous episodes, more information on all of the games mentioned, and upcoming events.   **JOIN OUR DISCORD!** The BGBBQ now has a Discord Channel. Welcome back for another episode of Board. Game Impact of course I am Bruce I'm joined by. This is Josh and today we're going to be talking about experiences that were having in this weird like digital hybrid world thing that we got going on with Covid nineteen still in full fledge at the time of this recording. So we hope that no matter where you are in the world, you your family, everybody safe, and we can knock this thing out, so we can get back to more things and more gaming around the table, but that being said there's still plenty of cool opportunities that we're having and you can have. And, so we wanted to talk about that today and so. Josh, weren't you? Kinda kick us off like what's going on in your neck of the woods. What are things looking like for gaming for you? Sure so. I kind of have two things going on right now when it comes to to gaming. kind of taking it from two different approaches, so the first is. Still continuing to reconnect with. Past game groups and doing some gaming online I know that you and I have gotten a chance to get some games and together but then also more recently have started to. Isolate my gaming group a little bit so rather than I think I've talked in the past about I have a pretty large game group here. The game store that I normally go to About forty people on average on a weekend awesome and so. Obviously. That's just not gonNA. Work Right now, So I've kind of isolated it down to a handful of people and recently started a ten by. We're calling Tim. By Five kind of scaled down version of ten by ten so furloughs news aren't aware. Choosing ten games. And trying to play those games five times throughout the course of a year so. Keeping it to just a handful of folks, so we've got four people and and really kind of enjoying kind of digging into some depths of SIM Games that we all really really enjoy. That sounds horrible. Yeah. It's been great a really really good time you know. We each threw in the name of two games that we really wanted to. Kind of dig deep into and really get some meat out of okay. Now, we we, we do not have ten so each person then through in one more game for consideration or at twelve twelve. Out of those four extras, we played all of them once and then independent of one another. We ranked those four games one. so our favourite got a score of one are least favorite gotta score four. We revealed those scores tallied them up and golf scored it, so the lowest to scoring games got added into our ten by five, and then we counted those plays towards our five play throughs of each game. So now we just kind of once a week. We get together. We play two games at a time Go through that way. I really really enjoy going through. You know one of the things that I really love about. This hobby is learning new games and. Seeing all these different things coming out,
