Happy 2025, diner buddies! I am so excited to begin the new year of "Talking At The Diner" with this conversation. Tyler Asay is the lead singer and band leader of The Tisburys, a Philly-based indie band who are close to my musical heart because they are at the forefront of what I like to think of as a Philly power pop renaissance, which has been bubbling under with fellow torch bearers like Log Flume, Second Grade, and the Jette Planes. Tyler is one of those musicians who loves the lineage of music in a particular genre or scene, and the Tisburys land squarely in the Philly pop rock tradition that can be traced back to Todd Rundgren, through the A's and the Hooters, and indie bands like Flight of Mavis and Buzz Zeemer. I have a feeling that if we were contemporaries in the aughts, IKE and the Tisburys would have done a LOT of shows together. But sharing stages will hopefully come to pass in 2025! In the meantime, The Tisburys are working at an impressive clip. Their newest single "The Anniversaries" is out now and their previous albums "Exile On Main Street" (2022), "Sun Goes Down" (2020), and "Wax Nostalgic" (2019) are all great and full of killer songs. With a healthy dash of Springsteen-esque energy and grandeur, this band is a rock and roll anthem machine! You can find them at their official website: http://thetisburys.com And on IG: @the_tisburys By the by, Tyler is a talented music writer and journalist and you can find him on Substack at: thetisburys.substack.comEnjoy our chat! ~ JKF ❤️
__________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Let It Bleed" sprechen wir im Podcast (12:27) – "Gimme Shelter"(28:53) – "Country Honk"(35:15) – "Live With Me"(39:55) – "Monkey Man"(46:02) – "Midnight Rambler"(53:04) – "You Can't Always Get What You Want"__________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge "Let It Bleed" findet ihr hier: https://www.swr.de/swr1/rp/meilensteine/the-rolling-stones-let-it-bleed-100.html __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? This week, we welcome the most rock person to ever appear on the show—the legendary comedian, actor, musician, and shredder DAVE HILL, who picked THE ROLLING STONES ROCK AND ROLL CIRCUS to discuss. We also discuss how Exile On Main Street should be the only album played in restaurants, Dave's inner fifteen year old, Crab Bucket Syndrome and the “Law Of Jante”, which is more taxing: touring as a musician or as a comedian, what commericals would have played on this British TV show, do the Stones pull off their bad boy/satanic imagery, missing the Jethro Tull boat, the origins of the film and why it remained in the vault for almost 30 years, who else should have been in the show, Led Zeppelin, tattoo nightmares, The Action, the original tour concept with The Small Faces & The Who, the first recorded instance of Ian Anderson standing on one leg, Richard Meltzer, getting scared by album artwork, Gary Panter and Songs For Swinging Larvae, Tommy Iommi subbing in here for Jethro Tull, why Dave Hill thinks Marianne Faithfull steals the film, hanging out with Yoko Ono, Robert De Niro and a toolbox, Charlie Is My Darling and the Irish Rolling Stones riots, and Dave has a last minute regret on this very special episode of Revolutions Per Movie.Yer blues, John, Yer blues…on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie!!!DAVE HILL: https://www.davehillonline.com/REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. Despite being the biggest rock band in the world, the Rolling Stones were deeply in debt in 1972. So they packed up their mobile recording studio, and headed to the French Riviera to record in an old mansion that was once a Nazi headquarters. It was a month-long party marked by wild debauchery, but it also resulted in one of rock's all-time greatest albums. Randy Renaud has the story of Exile On Main Street on this week's edition of the Chronicles of Rock.

"Phish's Chicago Adventure: Unpacking the Three-Night Run"Larry Mishkin talks about his experience at a recent Phish concert in Chicago. He mentions the uniqueness of this Phish show and focuses on their cover songs, specifically mentioning their cover of Talking Heads' "Remain in Light" album and the way Phish adds their signature jamming style to it. Larry also discusses a rare cover of Neil Young's "Albuquerque" and the joy of seeing a band like Phish covering classics. He mentions the fan culture at Phish concerts, including the prevalence of nitrous oxide vendors in the parking lot. He shares his experience over three nights of the concert and highlights the setlist from each night. Larry also talks about Phish covering Little Feat's "Spanish Moon" and its significance, given that it's a rarely played song by Phish..Produced by PodConx Deadhead Cannabis Show - https://podconx.com/podcasts/deadhead-cannabis-showLarry Mishkin - https://podconx.com/guests/larry-mishkinRob Hunt - https://podconx.com/guests/rob-huntJay Blakesberg - https://podconx.com/guests/jay-blakesbergSound Designed by Jamie Humiston - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-humiston-91718b1b3/Recorded on Squadcast Phish Weekend in ChicagoOctober 13 – 15, 2023United Center Today is the Phish covers which were spectacularPlay amazing covers by incredible artists – sometimes they dig deep into the other performer's catalogue to pull out rarities. Beautiful Neil Young tune from Tonight's The Night released in 1975The song sees Young returning to a theme that has filled his music from very early on: the vapidity of fame. It's something he seems to struggle with even more than most other musicians. Or, at least, it's something he's chosen to sing about more often than most. It may in fact be the most common theme of all his music, besides obvious stuff like heartbreak and love.In "Albuquerque," Young is thinking about renting a car and driving from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Santa Fe, just to be alone and "independent from the scene." He never tells us why he's in Albuquerque to begin with, but he does tell us he wants to roll a joint and rent a car and stop to eat some "fried eggs and country ham."The "country ham" bit is kind of interesting, because country ham is a food popular in the southeast, not so much in the southwest. It's probably just a simple oversight on Young's part, but it may also reveal another common thread in Young's music: the escape into rural simplicity as a cure for the craziness and fakeness of modern day life.Phish first played this song on July 26, 1998 at the Starplex Amphitheatre in Dallas, TX.Played a total of 17 timesLast played on June 11, 2011 at Merriweather Post Pavillion outside of D.C., gap of 457 shows SHOW #2: Spanish MoonPHISH : Spanish Moon : [LITTLE FEAT] : {4K Ultra HD} : The United Center : Chicago, IL : 10/15/2023 - YouTube:50 – 2:05October 15, 2023, Second set out of Pebbles and Marbles and into A Wave of Hope Little Feat cover, one of their most popular tunes. From the album, Feats Don't Fail Me Now, released in 1974 "Spanish Moon" was written and sung by guitarist Lowell George, who was a creative powerhouse in the early years of Little Feat. The song is about a fictional place called the Spanish Moon - a seedy club with whiskey and bad cocaine, but a girl singer that made it worth it. There are many dangers at the Spanish Moon, but the ones likely to do you in are the women.Lowell George was an excellent storyteller and created the Spanish Moon from his imagination, but he lived through the vices he describes in the song, especially cocaine. Around this time, his addictions were starting to overpower him, his health started failing, and he developed hepatitis. Feats Don't Fail Me Now was the last Little Feat album where he was clearly the leader; his contributions to the band slowly tailed off, and in 1979 he released a solo album. While on tour supporting it, he died of a heart attack at 34. Phish debuted it live on October 31, 2010 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City when Phish's musical costume was Waiting For Columbus, the famed Little Feat live album.Phish has performed it live only 3 timesLast before this show was on February 21, 2019 at Barcelo Maya Beach, Riviera Maya, Qunitana Roo, Mexico, gap of 170 shows SHOW #3: No QuarterPHISH : No Quarter : [LED ZEPPELIN] : {4K Ultra HD} : The United Center : Chicago, IL : 10/14/2023 - YouTube1:53 – 3:25October 14, 2023, Second Set, out of Everything's Right, into Fluffhead "No Quarter" is a song by Led Zeppelin that appears on their 1973 album Houses of the Holy. It was written by John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant. The song became a centerpiece at all Led Zeppelin concerts thereafter, until their final tour. It appears in both the film versions and both live album versions of The Song Remains the Same, released in 1976 and expanded in 2007. It appeared once more in 1994 on Page and Plant's reunion album as the title track. It also appears on Led Zeppelin's 2012 live album Celebration Day, which documented their 2007 reunion performance at the O2 Arena in London. It was re-released on the deluxe edition of Houses of the Holy. The title is derived from the military practice of showing no mercy to a vanquished opponent and from the brave act of not asking for mercy when vanquished. This theme is captured in several of the song's lyrics. Like "Immigrant Song" two albums prior, it evokes imagery from the Vikings and Norse mythology, with lyrics such as “the winds of Thor are blowing cold.”Record producer Rick Rubin remarked on the song's structure, "It takes such confidence to be able to get really quiet and loose for such a long time. [Led] Zeppelin completely changed how we look at what popular music can be." This was one of the new songs that he introduced at the festival, after which the guitarist was eager to perfect a studio version. Hendrix recruited bassist Billy Cox, who had played with him while they were in the army and his drummer friend Buddy Miles, for a new ensemble, Band of Gypsys. They recorded this as the B-side to his "Stepping Stone" single for Reprise, but it was quickly pulled after Hendrix complained about the mix. The Band of Gypsys made their live debut at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve, 1969 and this song was played during their first set. Phish debuted the song on June 13, 1997 at The S.F.X. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, released on Exile on Main Street (1971)Exile on Main St. has grown to be appreciated with time, and this is an example of a song that become more popular later on. In a 2003 interview, Mick Jagger explained: "On the Forty Licks tour, when we were preparing the set list for a show in Yokohama, Chuck Leavell suggested we play 'Loving Cup,' the ballad from Exile on Main St. I didn't want to play the tune and I said, Chuck, this is going to die a death in Yokohama. I can't even remember the bloody song, and no one likes it. I've done it loads of times in America, it doesn't go down that well, it's a very difficult song to sing, and I'm fed up with it! Chuck went, Stick in the mud! so I gave in and put it in the set-list. Lo and behold, we went out, started the song and they all began applauding... Which just proves how, over time, some of these songs acquire a certain existence, or value, that they never had when they first came out. People will say, What a wonderful song that was, when it was virtually ignored at the time it was released." >> Phish debuted the song on February 3, 1993 at the Portland Expo in Portland, MaineInteresting because they did eventually cover Exile On Main Street as a Halloween musical costume on October 31, 2009 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA, part of Phish Festival 8.Clearly one of their favorite covers, and a crowd pleaser, played 148 times.Last played before this show on August 5, 2023 at MSG, gap of 13 shows

Finally back from my personal hiatus, and I'm eager to get right into Season Six! I'm not sure that s6 is near the top of anyone's favorite season list, but there's just so much meaty goodness hidden away this season-- especially for my fellow Dean girls-- that I'm 100% serious about being excited to get into it. Maybe I can even change a few minds along the way (though... nobody will ever convince me to like a handful of s6 episodes, which will become abundantly clear when we hit them :'D). I recorded this episode a month ago and edited it last week without going back and recording anything new for it. New episodes will now begin rolling out on my previous schedule, and hopefully I haven't entirely forgotten how to do this. Thank you again everyone who's stuck around to continue this journey out beyond Kripke era with me! Chris O'Dell has been called the Forrest Gump of Rock 'n Roll because she's worked with so many Superstars. She was one of the original employees of Apple Records. She was in the studio when the Beatles recorded The White Album and Abbey Road. She sang on the chorus of "Hey Jude". She later become the first female Tour Manager working with The Rolling Stones on their Exile On Main Street tour, Bob Dylan on his Rolling Thunder tour, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Linda Ronstadt and many others. And George Harrison wrote the song “Miss O'Dell” for her, which became the B-side to “Give Me Love”, his 1973 #1 record. My featured song is my reimagined version of The Beatles' “I Wanna Be Your Man” which I renamed “I Wanna Be Your Girl”. We are talking about the very upsetting Supernatural Season 6, Episode 1 "Exile to Main Street." Liz tests Diana's memories about Djinn lore back from Season 2. How would you do?
In this week's Gathering, we looked at Babylon not just as a specific kingdom but as a repeating archetype of kingdom power. That sparked plenty of questions for our JourneyNOW roundtable panel of Mike Erre, Suzie Lind, Tim Timmons and Kevin Dixon. Can we apply that archetype to our own world and cultures? And, how do we live in exile in those cultures as people who are centered on Jesus? Plus: Bad theories on the secrets of Suzie's success; Kevin brings back Ocean Pacific style; Mike's best quality is just not being so bad; and Tim tries to remember where he is. - - - You can go deeper with us in our study of Revelation with the books on Journey's specially curated Amazon book list for the series. Get ready for a powerful O3L...and not just because we're talking about '80s power pop. This week, we are very pleased to welcome Renee Schyjer, wife, muse and soulmate of rockin', rollin', power-poppin', wild feline frontman Freddy Moore. Whether you know him as Freddy, his Midwest alter ego Skogie or mild-mannered offstage Rick, Frederick Moore was quite possibly the biggest rock star you've never heard of. Freddy had it at all. The looks, the charisma, the chops, the songs. In the late '60s and early '70s, his band Skogie and the Flaming Pachucos reached local stardom and small-scale Beatle-level adulation. After moving to LA in the late '70s, they evolved into The Kats (and later The Nu-Kats). The Kats sold out every major club in Los Angeles, from Madame Wong's to the Whiskey to the Starwood to the Troubadour, headlining alongside bands like The Police, The Knack and The Motels. The Kats were offered dozens of record deals. They turned down every single one. KISS's Gene Simmons wanted to manage them. He was married at the time to a rising movie star named Demi Moore. Yes, Freddy seemingly had it all...yet rock n' roll stardom eluded him. In 2014, Moore received the frightening diagnosis that he had developed early-onset Alzheimer's. With Renee's tireless love, help and research, Rick was able to hold onto his memories as long as he could to share them with the world. Co-written with Shannon Guyton, the result is It's Not A Rumour, an unorthodox, hysterical story of survival, and making it big in music without ever making a dime. It's an "almost famous" chronicle woven together with lyrics, photos, and memorabilia. It's Not A Rumour is available from Amazon or other fine retailers. In between booking Renee on the show and our release, Frederick Moore passed away on August 25, 2022. We dedicate this episode to his memory, and hope it is the celebration of life, love and music that he deserves. Hear more of Freddy Moore's music at: http://demophonic.com/ In the O3L Spotlight this week is a Philadelphia-based band that WRKC's DJ Calc hipped us to, The Tisburys. We play "Language of Luxury" from their latest album, the gutsily titled Exile On Main Street. It's a great record touched by the influence of Springsteen, The Replacements, modern indie rock, '90s college rock and power pop.
