Today I am joined by Shane of the Belfast Heavyweights, Ferals! The band last month releasd their largest body of work to date, the EP ‘Love & Other Obsessions'. The EP showcases a band acknowledging their past but always reaching toward the future, bringing contemporary sounds in to support emotionally extravagant songwriting, that according to the band explores the idea of love as the ultimate vice. This EP is essential listening from a band at the height of their abilities.I will be breaking down the entire EP with Shane, going through each track individually, dissecting their meaning and how they were constructed, including the engineering work Shane did on the EP, his first time doing this with the band. The band are also currently on tour, you'll be able to catch them this week on the following dates:20th of November - The Victoria - Birmingham21st of November - Spinning Top - Stockport22nd of November - The Pump - TrowbridgeJudging by the videos I've seen, those shows are not to be missed so make sure to pick up a ticket asap!Ferals on bandcampFerals on Linktree Hosted on Acast. Martin and his crew assemble the Ferals for the hike into Manchester. They are blocked by the stocky man and his men who insist on taking some of the Ferals as their own personal slave labor. Stocky's plan is derailed by the Overseer of the Grange. After all of that, the long march into the city begins. Once in the city, the Ferals find opportunities for work and housing. Martin is finally free to return home without the distractions he had endured all summer. This is the final chapter of Book 6: The Summer of Wood and Iron Thank you to all of you who supported me and encouraged me in the creation and completion of this project. I have appreciated the feedback, the coffees on Buy Me A Coffee, and the regular support on Patreon and BMAC. What's Next? In his outro, Mic discusses his plans for the podcast going forward. Check it out!
Martin and Margaret try to manage the sudden horde of Ferals that have settled around the Simmons house. While a solution is found, they put many of the Ferals to work in exchange for a meal of pine fries. A big project to keep most of them busy is digging out an area for a pond along the little stream on the Simmons' property. The work is interrupted by two men who wish to arrest one of the Feral women whom they accuse of stealing a chicken. As we near the conclusion of Book 6, you can show Mic that you've enjoyed the story by buying virtual cups of coffee at Buy Me A Coffee Monthly members will be getting previews of what's next. Become a Patron on Patreon, or a member at Buy Me A Coffee, Link for Next Friday Next week, Jeff, Brian and Mic will be discussing a 15-minute intro video by a scientist who tries to sort out what humanity would have to know to rebuild civilization after an apocalypse. If you want to view the video before the guys discuss it, here is the YouTube link. Humanity After An Apocalypse.
Martin resumes his chores around the house and checks out Dustin's rabbit snares at the back bean field. He takes a break to help Andy move out to Mara's camp. Andy is thrilled to be rooming with his soul mate. Martin gets back home in time to attend a contentious Grange meeting. Members complain about the Ferals stealing food and spreading disease. A mood of vigilanteism sweeps the meeting. To check out Mic's post about the recent bobcat attack on his chickens, check out his Buy Me A Coffee page or his Patreon page.

First off, APOLOGIES for the distortion at the beginning and end of this episode. We are still audio/podcast newbies and figuring it all out. Luckily, the large middle chunk of this episode is pulled from a previous conversation with our resident cat expert, Carrigan, and the audio is very pleasing to the ears. The main discussion is an expansion on the conversation about feral/community cats versus stray/owned cats who have found themselves lost in the big, wide world. Carrigan also advocates for microchipping your felines! Even if you have an outdoor cat who's typically great at staying close to home, it can be oh so helpful in case they do wander off or a well-meaning citizen takes them to the local humane society. We also give an office kitty update and tell you a bit about Bone Appétit, our annual gala and largest fundraiser of the year! It will be held virtually on Saturday, October 17th from 7-8pm. Visit boneappetit2020.givesmart.com to check out party packs (if you live in Shawnee County, Kansas) and register for *free* to view our online auction (we will ship within the continental U.S.!). In the field of animal welfare, “Dr. Susan” possesses a prolific resume. She opened her own veterinary-behavioral consulting service in 2000, has maintained a position as veterinary advisor for the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association since its beginning in 2008, runs a private practice, and has volunteered her veterinary service at various local shelters in her home state of Wisconsin. In 2001, Dr. Susan founded Friends of Ferals, an adoption center and spay-neuter clinic for community cats in Dane County, WI. Considering that community cat interests were not a pressing concern at the time of its inception, this organization has done groundbreaking work in its field, rescuing over 4,500 community cats and adopting out 4,300 since 2007. Dr. Susan offers insight into successful relocation of community cat colonies, and how to successfully grow your organization through community outreach, especially in the face of push-back.
