Marty Month rolls on, as we move backwards in Scorsese's filmography to his first film with Leo, a revenge picture set in the mean streets of New York circa 1862. It's 2002's Gangs of New York, directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Jay Cocks, and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz, Jim Broadbent, John C. Reilly, Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, Henry Thomas, Stephen Graham and Eddie Marsan. It finds the director very much in an era where he seems to be gunning for the awards that have previously eluded him throughout his career, and to that end the movie is nominated for ten Oscars in 2003. Shockingly, it wins zero -- a shame, as the co-host writing this copy liked it quite a bit. This one comes from Hayley's collection, a Giant Tiger pick-up she's been sitting on for more than a decade. Other works discussed in this episode include The Lost Boys, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part II, Paddington, Wonka, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Harry Potter movies, Jim Broadbent's 2001-02 run, drive-in theaters, Fleabag, Super Mario Wonder, Luigi's Mansion, and the Harbour Centre Food Court. If you'd like to watch the movie, Gangs of New York is readily available on streaming in Canada, on Netflix, Starz and Amazon Prime at the time of publication. We'll be back next Friday as Marty Month goes into overtime -- suitably -- as we consider a rare Scorsese comedy for entry into the pod canon: 1985's After Hours, starring Griffin Dunne and Rosanna Arquette. It is sadly not streaming anywhere in Canada currently, but can be rented on YouTube. Good luck finding it, and we'll see you at the movies!

Hey, this month we are doing a webinar for those who want help overcoming pornography If you're listening to this podcast and like what you hear, take the next step and come to our webinar on april 20th at 730 mt, there's a link in the show notes or you can go to zachspafford.com/freecall The seed for today's podcast came from a post by a guy named Kris Heap. in that he equated success to the way that an auction happens. Everything we do has a price. In order to achieve desired results in our lives we have to be willing to cover the cost. We pay those costs in a variety of different ways. Money Time Energy Effort Discomfort Commitment Willingness Some of those seem synonymous and some of them have varied connotations, but whatever you want to call it, doesn't really matter. You and everyone you know, pays for what we get. Darcy's family comes from an amazing history of auctioneers. What are some of the cool things your grandpa and dad and uncles were part of auctioning off? Darcy- I sent my dad a text and asked him about the most interesting things that he had auctioned. Hellen Keller - we still have some of her pieces at my parents house, including this Giant Tiger scroll that is in a japanese style Revson Estate - which was the owner of Revlon In their work as auctioneers they saw this happen so many times. As the price of the item goes up, fewer people will seek to put forth the cost of getting the thing they are bidding on. The true value of the item is revealed based on the amount the people who are bidding are willing to pay for the item. In our work, people have come to us and tell us that they have a pornography addiction. Last week I talked about why I don't like using the term pornography addiction, but that is what people tell us, and we are happy to meet them where they are. In fact, last week we did a poll and about 80% of the people that responded said they felt like they were addicted to pornography or they believed their spouse is. In a way, that person who is talking to us is placing an opening bid on overcoming their pornography struggle. When we talk to people they want to know, what is it actually going to take. That first conversation is the opening bid, and it is a pretty low one. What's the cost of the conversation? Basically, nothing. A little time. Darcy and I love speaking to people and we love sharing our story, we do it for free in fifth Sunday lessons, zoom meetings like the one that I mentioned earlier, firesides, and in everyday conversations with random people who are impacted by pornography use in their lives. Each of those conversations is amazing and I think it elevates awareness and possibilities for each person to a new level. Every time Darcy does a fireside, or speaks to a Sunday school class, she just lights up and is happy for days. We get an immense amount of joy out of the work we do. We want you to get an immense amount of joy out of the work we do as well. So, we would like to talk about the transactional cost of overcoming pornography. If you think back to the auctioneer, only those who are willing to pay the price receive the prize. That is as true in commerce as it is in our mental and emotional lives. A contractor, like an auctioneer, often puts out bids to see what people are willing to pay to get their place remodeled. Remodeling pornogrpahy out of your life is like remodeling your home. Looking at what is there, deciding you don't like it, and figuring out, what will it take to make my life look the way I want it to. So, we've put together a cost sheet. An itemized bid, if you will, of...

I would like to apologize for the laps in time from the last episode to this one. Times are tough for everyone and I was honestly trying to get it together. You see during this very unprecedented time, I was also nearing the end of my pregnancy and was navigating how to have a baby, our first, during a pandemic and isolation. Without making this about me, I am happy to say little mama is thriving and at 6 weeks old we are coming into a pretty cool routine. Therefore, I was able to get this episode together. One lesson I have learned already about parenting is presence. I can't do a million things at once, I need to focus and be present. That means other things take a back seat. It is somewhat beautiful to be present, especially nowadays with so many distractions. This is why I would like to apologize, the delay went longer than even I anticipated and for that I am sorry. I don't plan on making this a reoccurring theme - but, I do appreciate the love and check ins I have been getting from listeners. You are simply the best! (That means people dig what I'm doing and are listening!!!!) This episode features fashion icon, Simon Chang. I met him at a function launching his collaboration with the Canadian discount store Giant Tiger. It so happened I was seated as his table and we hit it off. I noticed a few things about him immediately, his humility, simplicity, his joy de vivre. And, most importantly he loves what he does. It shows in how he talks, how he gestures and how he respects himself and others. He was so gracious when we met, and said yes when I asked if he would be interested in being interviewed. I would like to point out, that he said yes without hesitation - there have been people that are still on the come up, as it were, that I have asked to interview and they have been like "let me hear a few episodes and holla back". Not Simon Chang. Simon freaking Chang ... this was a lesson to me - real recognize real. He was so down and open that he connected me with his people instantly and started to sync blocks of time with me instantly. He didn't lowkey brush me off and never get back. He didn't ask a million questions about the show, he said he saw me, my intentions and was all in. He cleared his entire afternoon for me, I was touched. And, still am at how he and his team were with me and my team. Not just professional, but warm. That's the difference between someone who does things with positive intentions and love and others who do things for ulterior motives. His sparkle, that twinkle in his eye is real .. his soul smiles. It made me see that his success is only part of his story, his love of life, people, art and creativity are the other parts. With an open heart he has been able to try his hand at so many creative elements and soar. Simon's genuine curiosity keeps him young and so does his spirit. He is a bright light and am very grateful he took the time to shine some of it on me. I hope you enjoy this interview and as always encourage any feedback or comments my way. I have to tell you, Mr. Chang is simply put, a gem. www.simonchang.com Facebook Instagram

What makes it so special? Well, it was a surprise guest! It's not a surprise to you, his name is right there. However, it was a surprise to me. Walter literally came over to my house and stalled for time so that someone could buzz up to my apartment. It sort of sounded like my friend Ronan so I thought nothing of it. Then who came into my house? FUCKING GIANT TIGER. With the mask on and everything! I was sure I was being robbed! Tiger talks about everything you'd expect: wrestling, krokodil, sleeping in internet cafes and jerking off a bunch. Listen now!
