By training, Gail Brenner is a licensed Ph.D. psychologist and trauma specialist with almost 30 years of experience offering individual sessions and group workshops. Her work as a therapist and teacher invites people to shed attachment to false identities, return to their essential wholeness, and realize the truth of who they are. In primarily group courses, she holds safe space for people to investigate patterns of early trauma that live in the mind, body, and heart—and are carried through family generations. And she welcomes celebration of the freedom that's discovered when the attachment to these patterns falls away and there's space for awakened living in everyday life. Her teaching is practical and accessible to all. She loves meeting with people who have tried everything and are still searching for an end to suffering. Gail received her B.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University and Ph.D. from Temple University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Florida and a clinical internship at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. She has special expertise working with older adults and their families, bringing clear seeing and compassion to the transitions of aging, death, and dying. As a member of the clinical faculty at University of California, San Francisco, she helped physicians develop communication skills and learn to address psychosocial issues with their patients. She has authored numerous published articles on coping with stress and chronic medical illness. And, for 15 years, she consulted with staff of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities about aging, dementia, and caregiving and gave presentations to the community at large on these topics. Gail is the author of three books: The End of Self-Help: Discovering Peace and Happiness Right at the Heart of Your Messy, Scary, Brilliant Life, At the Core of Every Heart: Reflections, Insights, and Practices for Waking Up and Living Free, and Suffering Is Optional: A Spiritual Guide to Freedom from Self-Judgment and Feelings of Inadequacy. As a blogger, she has been featured on CNN, Huffington Post, Zen Habits, MindBodyGreen, Tiny Buddha, Inspire Me Today, and the Undivided Journal. She is on the board of Science and Nonduality (SAND).

9/25/18 show - Books have been a part of my life from way before I could read. I love reading so much I even walked out of school in first grade because I thought they weren't going to teach me how to read.  You'll have to read my book for the details though. Today I want to focus on my guest and how she is helping increase literacy around the world. Without literacy you would not be reading this episode summary nor would I be able to do my show each week. Smartphones would not exist nor would most of the resources we take for granted today. Yet a large portion of the world cannot read at even a basic grade level and in some countries women are still not allowed to go to school. Enter Kathryn Starke, Global Literacy advocate. Her goal is to help schools achieve literacy success while making it fun for their students of all ages. Take a listen as we discuss how you can be a literacy advocate, how Kathryn has built a global business around literacy and how anyone can "Tackle Reading" in their community or around the world. Kathryn Starke is an urban literacy specialist, reading consultant, author, and the founder of Creative Minds Publications, LLC, a global literacy based educational company.  She has been featured on multiple media platforms including Fox Small Business News, Inspire Me Today, Virginia This Morning, and Conversations Live.   She currently serves on the board of Reach Out and Read Virginia.  She previously served on the Chris Baker 92 Foundation, and is the children’s author and literacy advocate for the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation reading program.  She served as a panelist on educational forums for University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University and was the keynote speaker for the PBS Kids Writing Contest Awards Ceremony.   A native of Richmond Virginia, Kathryn graduated from Longwood University with a BS degree in elementary education and a Master's degree in Literacy and Culture.  She has taught first, second, and third grade and served as a literacy specialist for over a decade in inner city/Title I schools in Richmond Public Schools and Chesterfield County Public Schools in Richmond, Virginia.  She is the author of Amy’s Travels, a multicultural children’s book used in schools on over twenty countries on six continents.  The book was recently turned into a musical by the Latin Ballet of Virginia.   Kathryn was named one of the 50 Great Writers You Should be Reading by The Author’s Show.  She has provided in depth literacy consulting in over 80 schools, has presented at both state and national reading conferences, and has served as a consultant in some of the top 100 largest school districts in the country, working primarily in 5 states (Virginia, California, New York, Massachusetts, and South Carolina).

Aired Wednesday, 28 June 2017, 8:00 PM ET Lisa K. - Intuition On Demand Did you ever have a “gut feeling” about something that resulted in your changing your plans or actions? In a conversation with someone, did you ever hear an inner voice tell you not to trust that person or that the person was being completely honest. Have you ever felt an attraction to a person, place or thing and was not sure why. Every one of us has experienced these intuitive flashes, sometimes acting upon them and sometimes not. What if there was a way that you could not only develop your intuition but learn to trust it personally and even professionally? My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Lisa K., says there is a way! Lisa is a teacher, author and speaker specializing in intuition. She is the creator of Developing Your Intuition, where she teaches others how to control their intuition so they can use it when they want and on what they want. Lisa is considered an intuition expert and has taught people in workshops and seminars both online and in person. Her public appearances reach people around the world through guest speaking, online media and her popular radio show, “Between Heaven and Earth.” Lisa holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, Psycho-Biology from the State University of New York, and a PhD from the University of Metaphysical Sciences. As an author, Lisa’s work has been published in a variety of magazines including The Huffington Post, Inspire Me Today, Care2.com and our own OmTimes Magazine.
