Itsy bitsy sausages Black hilted knife Eat and depart To the place of no return* If you're like me, you've almost certainly heard the stories. Light your fireplace. Set your colanders out. Placate them with food and desserts until the Epiphany bells ring. Then -- and only then -- will they return to the underworld. Ironically, the Twelve Days of Christmas could be a terrifying time. And for some growing up in Cyprus, they certainly were. By now, I'm sure you've figured out what I'm referring to: I'm talking about the malodorous, beastial and malicious goblins -- the καλικάντζαροι (kalikantzari). I've always wondered where these stories might have originated, what these creatures represented and even what they might have looked like. Imagine my surprise (and joy) to find out that they're making their way to the BIG screen! For this incredible episode, I'm joined by filmmaker, Minos Papas, who talks to me about his latest film, "Motherwitch: Δωδεκάμερον," which is slated for a 2025/2026 global release. The movie, set in 19th century Cyprus, stars Margarita Zachariou as Eleni, "an outcast painter, [who] tries to resurrect her dead children but unleashes a horde of creatures upon her village" (IMDb). Motherwitch, which is partially funded by Cypriot Department of Cultural Service, also stars Athos Antoniou, John Hughes and Miltos Yerolemou (of Game of Thrones fame). Minos and I discuss the art of film, the origins of Kalikantzari in Cypriot folklore and imagination, the work that went into the pre and post production and finally, what we can expect in the coming months. Though a work of fiction and fantasy, Motherwitch excites me as it is a culmination of years of research, and painstaking attention to historical accuracy and detail. It is a movie which strives to be a faithful to the period, capturing not only the look and feel, but the language and customs of the time. This is the first time Cyprus' culture will make its way to the Big Screen. Make Believe Seattle is a genre film festival celebrating their inaugural year this weekend (March 23-26)! Thanks to Ted Geoghegan, I have the opportunity to cover six titles for this year's run, releasing the reviews as a miniseries on THE MOVIES. First up is the festival's Opening Night selection, Jake Van Wagoner's ALIENS ABDUCTED MY PARENTS AND NOW I FEEL KINDA LEFT OUT. Don't worry. It also took me a couple tries to say that title right out loud. The movie follows Itsy (Emma Tremblay), an aspiring teenage journalist frustrated by her family's move from the city to remote Utah town Pebble Falls, where the only kind of action comes in the form of snapping photos of dilapidated signs and cars. That is, until she meets Calvin Kipler (Jacob Buster), a classmate convinced his parents were abducted by aliens 10 years prior. I don't say "convinced" with the mental image of Charlie Kelly gesticulating wildly at a string-covered board. Calvin's made a full-blown spacesuit and wears it to school. He refers to people he trust as "friendlies." Star Trek's Vulcan "V" hand sign is not a pop culture gesture to him; it is intergalactic custom. This kid makes Randy Quaid from INDEPENDENCE DAY seem like Scully and Mulder. Seeing an opportunity to write a story about Calvin that'll win her a summer semester abroad at NYU, Itsy befriends the spaceman. At first, she focuses only on the story, but starts to warm up to Calvin, maybe moreso than expected. It's pretty easy for me to fall for Calvin too. Buster's performance is magnetic, drawing me and Itsy in with wit and goofball charm. As the story progresses, so does his emotional range, and I can attribute most of his moments that don't work to the strength of the screenplay/direction, which sometimes neuters the heavier portions of his story. However, this isn't a heavy movie. Calvin and Itsy's problems seem relatable enough even to young kids, and watching them fidget with and tweak gizmos inside Calvin's glorified shed of a research lab reminds me of the best times I spent dicking about trying to invent shit that would change the world (mainly a working web-shooter, but I digress). There's fun to be had and majesties to gawk at. After all, there's something about a night lit up with stars that seems not just ripe, but also infinite with possibility, with dreams. Does this thing suffer the effects of a limited budget? Yeah; any driving scene's got a rough green screen effect. Props often feel cobbled together from thrift shops and junkyards. Sometimes, the space VFX looks like something copied and pasted from After Effects, but when this stuff works, it's got an Amblin-inspired, DIY charm. What can I say? I like my sci-fi scrappy. You are being watched. What does it feel like? Do you enjoy know that someone can see everything about you?----------Episode 48: “We See Your Face.”Those who know me, know that I love technology.I am absolutely fascinated with the things that man has created through the years.Cars, planes, phones, refrigerators, radio, TV, spaceships, and even social media.I can remember watching TV as Neil Armstrong walked around on the moon. It was a live broadcast! Of course it was delayed a few seconds because of the distance and because it had to be relayed from earth stations that had massive antennas. But it was live!In my lifetime, I've seen the development of microwave ovens, wireless phones (which are more powerful than the computers NASA used for the moon missions), heart transplants, and …The list could go on and on.In case you don't know, man did not evolve from a primordial soup (I'll save my evolution talk for another day). The Bible clearly teaches that man was created in God's image and he was intelligent from the beginning. If you know the story of the Tower of Babel, you'll know that God chose to confuse the languages and scatter the people around the world because man was so intelligent.“And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech.”Genesis 11:6-7Think about that.God said since they could speak the same language “nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”We've seen that demonstrated through the centuries of human history.ARTIFICIAL BODY PARTS“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”I am reminded of that truth with every step I take.Walking was almost an impossibility for me because my knees hurt so much. Then a doctor put me to sleep, cut out my bad knees, and put in new ones. Now I walk without pain.I love technology.HOME SECURITY SYSTEMS“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”I am also reminded of that truth every time I leave my house. Before I go out the door, I turn on my home security system. It can tell if someone opens a door or breaks a window. Its motion detector can even tell if someone just moves inside my house. And if my system detects an intrusion, my security system will contact the police.I know the system works because I was taking care of my daughter's dog one day and I left the house, forgetting to set system to allow for the dog's presence.Well, my security system's motion detector picked up on the dog's movement and when I returned home there were a couple of police officers at my door. They wouldn't even let me enter the premises until they had checked the house.Still, I love technology.TALKING TO ALEXA“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”And then there's my personal assistant — Alexa.I think Alexa is a “she” because she sounds like a she, but then I'm not very woke so I could be terribly wrong and needing to grovel before the truly woke and beg for forgiveness … which probably wouldn't be given, but that's another story. Not wanting to become a phobic something or other, I asked Alexa what her personal pronoun was and she responded, “I'm an AI so I don't have a preference.”Since she doesn't have a preference and since I bought her … she is a she.Back to Alexa and how I use her.If I wonder what the definition of a word is, I just ask Alexa and she tells me.If I want to translate a phrase into another language, I just ask Alexa and she gives me the translation. If I want to know if a local store is open, I just ask Alexa and she tells me the hours of operation and offers to call the store for me.My wife and I have devotions each morning and one of the things we do is read a section from the Bible. We have our Bibles open and then I ask Alexa to read aloud to us. She does. One script I am working on is set in the 1920's and 30's. To help get me get a feel for the time period, I ask to Alexa play songs from those years. It's the music my characters would have listened to.During the day I often ask Alexa to play “inspirational hymns.”Sometimes I just run through a list of songs I remember from my younger days — classics like “Purple People Eater,” “Beep, Beep,” “Love Letters in the Sand,” “When I Fall in Love,” “Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini.”You know, the really good stuff. And sometimes I'll ask Alexa to play the songs from a musical — Oklahoma, Man of La Mancha, Fiddler on the Roof, or one of the other musicals I remember from my youth – back in the time when I was considering acting as a possible career. At night, my wife and I like to read a book together. We get comfortable and I ask Alexa to read the current Audible selection we are working through. Alexa picks right up where she left off the previous night. Before I go to bed, I ask Alexa to turn off the lights in the house and set the alarm for the next day. When the alarm goes off in the morning, Alexa gives me an encouraging phrase and tells me the weather report for the day. It's amazing.Yep. I love technology. But … there are some concerns with Alexa. She listens all the time. To everything. Now Amazon promises that she only listens when she “hears” the keyword. But that means she has to be listening all the time to hear the keyword.Which begs the question, what does she do with what she hears?Amazon says not to worry. And I can trust Amazon … can't I?Which brings me to today's topic.WE SEE YOUR FACE“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”You've probably heard of facial recognition, but it is amazing how far that technology has come in recent years.A camera — and there are cameras everywhere — captures a picture of you and almost immediately knows who you are and a lot of stuff about you, some of it very personal.Perhaps your phone requires you to take a picture of yourself so you can access its features.Perhaps you have to take a picture of yourself and submit it online in order to use certain products, especially those dealing with your finances.Perhaps you work in a place where facial recognition is used to allow you to enter certain parts of the building. Some of the uses of facial recognition seem helpful.WE SEE YOU COMINGOne company, Cloudastructure, has a product that was particularly useful during the pandemic. Not only would it recognize who was heading into a business, it also would detect if the individual was wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, and it also used a thermal camera to detect the individual's temperature.Pretty nifty, huh?(NOTE: I did invest in the company.)GOTTCHA!“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”Another company, Clearview AI, has used it's tools to scrape more than 20 billion images from the internet and tied them to names of individuals. The company sells its services to several thousand agencies - mostly law enforcement - around the world. In the U.S. that includes the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.Suppose a local police department has a fuzzy picture of a crime being committed that was captured on a business' security camera. If the department is a user of Clearview AI, they submit the image and, if the individual in the picture is in one of those 20 billion images it gathered from the internet, the police department would receive back information about the person in the picture. You can see why law enforcement agencies like this product, but some people are concerned this technology puts our individual privacy at great risk.If you would like to find out more about this company, there is an interview with the founder on YouTube, “Controversial Facial Recognition Founder Opens Up - Clearview A.I.” It's about an hour and one-half, so it's only for those of you who have a lot of time.MAKING TRAVEL EASIER“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”And it's not just identifying bad guys.In Moscow's Metro system, they are testing a face recognition system to pay for a ride. All a traveler has to do is look at the camera near the entry gate, their credit card is charged, and they can board the Metro.Check out the 7 minute video below.Convenient isn't it?No credit cards to pull out of your pocket, or passes that you have to display. Just look at the camera and board the Metro.Isn't technology wonderful?Which brings up the question.WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?Well, China is using the technology to monitor their entire population. Check out the 6 minute video below. This video is almost four years old so you can be certain the technology has become much more powerful.Notice what kind of control facial recognition gives to a government.“… nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.”They know when you leave your house, who you hang around with, if you leave an area where you have been told to stay, if you belong to a certain group, when you go to the market. The technology has developed so it can even read a person's emotions. The citizens are under constant surveillance.“If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear,” the government reassures its citizens. But one writer who was fired from his job says, “You can't do anything the government dislikes.”The government even uses the technology to name and shame individuals who break any law.How would you like your name and photo displayed on a large monitor on a building for everyone to see because you took more toilet paper than you were allowed to use at a restroom, or if you jay walked? That's one of the ways the government tries to discourage crime.STOP AND THINKIt's time to stop and think now.If a government, any government, has access to facial recognition technology, do you think it would use the technology to control the population?“Population” is just another word for you.I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat or Independent.Would the government use such a tool against you?I may have mentioned that I love technology. But I am also terrified about technology as I see the power it can give to a government.TRANSITION for ReviewsI have a recommendation for you. “Created Equal” is a documentary about Clarence Thomas. Most people only know what the media has told them about Clarence Thomas, which is just another way of saying they know very little that is true, if anything at all.Whether you like or dislike Justice Thomas, I would encourage you to watch the movie or read the book or listen to the audible book and learn from Clarence Thomas' own words what it was like for him to grow up in a poor neighborhood, what it was like to experience racism, and many of the experiences that helped him develop as a young man, a lawyer, and eventually a Supreme Court Justice.I love to share some of the articles I read with you. Here are some stories I found interesting recently. I have links to the original sources in the show notes.“War on words: Left seeks to redefine terms like female, pedophile and even recession” by Natalia Mittelstadt. We see this almost daily. If a word makes a “politically correct” action look disgusting, you can solve the problem by changing the definition of the word.“Multiple-Abortion Survivor Says God Helped Her Forgive Birth Parents Who Did Everything to Abort Her” by Louise Chambers. An adopted girl sets out to find her birth parents and why they didn't want her.“Why College Degrees Are Working Against Many Job-Seekers” by Isaac Morehouse. As a former high school administrator, I've counseled many students about their post-high school plans. It's a fun one that I wish I recorded a video of as well, but I will definitely be doing more of these once I get video recordings done. I also uploaded my podcast presentation for my class as a bonus episode so if you're interested head over to the next episode and listen. Grab a glass and chat with us! Our ‘Song To Chew' today is a classic children's song from my “Uh-Oh!” album, ITSY SPIDER. Many children's songs have deep and lasting effects on us though out our entire lives. My version of this song is kind of an ‘up-grade'. I learned the original Itsy Spider song in pre-school 70 years ago. Back then we did hand motions; our fingers became Itsy spiders walking up the drain pipe, our wiggling fingers were the rain drops falling; and we'd throw our arms out to the sides as we “washed the spider OUT!” The sun came out, and our fingers became Itsy spiders again, climbing back up the spout! Again and again and again! For 70 years! And I started thinking, “what lessons have we been teaching our children!?” The definition of insanity is ‘doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results!' Maybe the Itsy spider ought to try something new! Ya think?! The original song models patience, and perseverance, and my version adds the importance of setting boundaries and walking through our fear of changing! C'mon! Today I’m sitting down with our friend and author Hedley Derenzie. Hedley is the writer and author of six books, including her latest, Itsy & Bitsy: Two Little Boobs Who Dream Of Making It Big - a children’s-stylebook for adults inspired by a breast augmentation and then explant six months later. I've had Hedley on the podcast before to talk about self-worth. If you’re a woman who struggles with self-worth I highly recommend you give it a listen. In this episode, we’re talking everything fake boobs. Hedly shares her struggles with body image and why she got her implants put in and then why only 6 months later she got them taken out. I’m also getting my implants removed and if you’re listening to this it means I've had my op and they're out! So If you’re a woman who’s considering getting breast implants or someone who has implants and has been thinking about getting them taken out then this is a must-listen. I just love Hedly I think she's warm, open and shares her experiences so authentically. Dream Word – PREPAREJonah 4:6 And the Lord God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant. NKJVAs is my usual routine, I got up early this morning, acquiesced to the instant ablutions of a man in his later years, clicked on the kitchen light, and placed some heavily caffeinated rich dark Columbian in the percolator in preparation for some later laxitivity, while then sitting down to write tonight’s 'NightWhisper.'The light from the kitchen shone in the surrounding darkness of this Kentucky hillside and drew ‘the boys’ from afar. ‘The boys’ as we call them are ‘Itsy and Bitsy’ two little gifts from God, found meowing on the side of the road by my wife on her birthday, which was some 18 months previous to this. Two dumped and orphaned little ginger Tom Cats. Two twitching-faced Davy Crocket hats, two foul-wind machines, two sources of pest control, two mouse deliverers, two purring, warm and cozy, sources of comfort and sources of caressing. Two little creatures curled at the bottom of the bed, two sets of bright eyes in the long night, two little sources of God’s comfort that turn up each morning, greet you with a smile, bite your feet to let you know you live today, and then wrap their warm and fuzzy little tails around your cold morning calves, to also let you know that today, you are loved once more! Yes, the boys, those two little ginger ‘Tom’s,’ those two little gifts from God, came banging at my early morning door, most each and every day.It is interesting how attached you get to little things. In our text for tonight, for that peculiar and pugnacious prophet called Jonah, it was a plant, and a simple day plant at that. For me and for my wife, it was our cats, our furry substitutes for our much older but very missed children and two warm little distractions from the cold loneliness that such a missing often generates. A few days after writing this NightWhisper, I returned to our homeland, and left those two little creatures behind. As the little ginger duet, crouching side by side, eating in unison from their full blue bowls, I think how much I will miss this furry morning routine. Then I thought to myself, “Man! If we ever have to leave them for good, that’s gonna be a hard one, especially for my wife.”It’s amazing how misery can so easily leap upon a Celt. That last thought of mine allowed the cat of melancholia to come and curl up in my lap, look me in my eye and remind me that in this life, everything and everyone shall be said goodbye to. “The longer you live,” it menacingly purred, “Then the more you shall say goodbye. Until at last, they shall say goodbye to you.” It then relaxed and in the relaxing, it broke some very smelly and unwanted wind. Finally, it said, “One day soon, you are going to die.” I said, “Thanks for the reminder.”By now the coffee was beginning to take effect so I quickly grabbed that mangy little visitor by its scabby little neck and threw it out the window! It had said nothing new. No, I am aware of all that. I am a Pilgrim for goodness sake! En-route to God's Holy City, to my Hometown nestled in the mountains of my Homeland, and in being a Pilgrim right now, I am therefore already preparing my goodbyes well in advance, but more than that, oh mangy and smelly melancholic little kitten, I am preparing my “Hello’s” and I am practicing my “How do you do's!”How about you tonight? What hello's are you looking forward to after your final goodbye is said?It was Alfred Lord Tennyson that wrote, ‘The Crossing of the Bar.’ It is a majestic piece and the last two lines read..“I hope to see my Pilot face to faceWhen Support the show (http://www.victorrobert.tv)

Success Story of the Week: This week's success story is from Marie, and Marie's headline in the success of forums said, "Itsy-bitsy Success," with a little smiley face emoticon. I love this because a lot of times, that is what we need. All of us. There are days that I don't get things done, and I just need one itsy-bitsy success, just as Marie said. Marie writes, "I actually managed to write up and complete this week's action plan. This is actually a huge victory for me, so I wanted to celebrate it." And then she said, "Dances happy dance," like in quotations marks there. Good job, Marie. Sometimes, when you are in a funk, you just need somewhere to go and do something. That is what our action plan forum is for. Everybody posts on Monday what they are going to do that week, what they're going to get accomplished, and then we hold each other accountable to make sure that we get it done.

Erwin “Itsy” Lieberman has always been dedicated to physical fitness. With a phenomenal track record as a coach leading 11 of his players who signed with Major League Baseball Teams and three who signed with the Pro Football Teams). Itsy then went on to start his highly successful career as the leading sales producer in the history of the promotional products business — Itsy left feeling strong and respected among his peers. Itsy discovered Chi Exercises in his early thirties and now, more than 30 years later, he says he feels as good or better than he did when he started. He has since dedicated his life to passing on his knowledge of this amazing mind-body-spirit connection by teaching Chi Exercises to all who want to learn from him. “The Chi,” says Itsy, “is life’s energy that energy can be nurtured and invigorated through practices such as tai chi, chi gong (quigong), chi yoga, and yoga breathing. When you engage in these exercises, you begin to learn that failures and setbacks may humble you, but they don’t have to beat you. And when you truly understand your chi, you learn that rejection is temporary, but inner strength is permanent.” http://sunrisechi.com/about-itsy
