Did you know there's a fake president in Jason Statham's pulpy, hit actioner THE BEEKEEPER? We didn't! Not until a listener gave us the heads up.  British thespian Jemma Redgrave plays the American president. Josh Hutcherson is her not-quite-failson. Jeremy Irons is back in Alfred-mode. And Minnie Driver inexplicably gets a couple scenes for no real apparent reason. We know what this movie says about scamming the elderly (it's bad!)... but what does it say about American politics in the year 2024? It's Doctor Who's 60th year and to celebrate, there will be three anniversary specials coming to your screens starting next week. Jemma Redgrave will be returning as Kate Stewart - Chief Scientific Officer at UNIT - the military organisation set up to investigate alien threats to earth. Jemma speaks to Emma Barnett about what we can expect and what it is like being a part of the show. Professor Dame Lesley Regan talks about the decision to let women access the contraceptive pill from pharmacies in England, from next month, without the need for a GP appointment. There is going to be a new parental leave policy in France. Parents will be entitled to “family leave” worth half their salary for up to a year. We talk a lot on Woman's Hour about the maternity leave, paternity leave and shared parental leave policies in this country – but what could we learn by looking abroad? Professor Alison Koslowski from University College London and Elena Brown from Rand Europe outline and discuss the different policies. Emmy-nominated film director Nisha Pahuja joins Woman's Hour to talk about her new documentary, To Kill A Tiger. It focuses on Ranjit, the father of a young girl in a tribal Indian village who has been sexually assaulted, and his battle for justice. Nisha tells Emma why she wanted to make a film about this and the important changes it has made. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your one-stop-shop for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. As of Sunday, the Writers Guild reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to end its strike after nearly five months. The parties finalized the framework of the deal Sunday when they were able to untangle their stalemate over AI and writing room staffing levels. This is welcome news to everyone involved no doubt and hopefully means the actor's strike will soon follow suit. The first trailer for the upcoming three-episode Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special has premiered to excited Whovians everywhere. The trailer features David Tennant portraying a reincarnation of his Tenth Doctor who reunites with his companion Donna Noble played by Catherine Tate, as well as Jemma Redgrave reprising her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and Neil Patrick Harris will play The Toymaker, an all-powerful villain who first appeared in 1966. We also get a short glimpse of the new Fifteenth Doctor, played by Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa. The special series begins streaming in November. For reasons unknown to many, a reboot of the U.S. version of The Office is rumored to be in the works. Original creator Greg Daniels is reportedly returning and has previously hinted at bringing the show back, but with different actors in the roles. Daniels has also been quoted as saying he envisioned it as a quote “extension of the universe…but I don't know if that would be something people want…” end quote. In a recent podcast interview, screenwriter David S. Goyer let loose some interesting info about the Christopher Nolan Batman films, stating that he vouched for Jake Gyllenhaal to portray the titular character of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Goyer continued to tantalize saying that he is pretty sure there is test footage laying around somewhere of Gyllenhaal's audition in a Batman costume. We also could have had a Leonardo DiCaprio version of The Riddler, if an unnamed Warner Bros. executive had gotten their way. The Dark Knight trilogy is often lauded as some of the best feature films of the Caped Crusader. Amazon has announced that its Prime Video service will feature limited ads beginning in early 2024 and the ad tier will be the default option for Prime Video. The company says the price of a regular Prime subscription won't rise next year, but users who want to continue watching Prime Video without commercials will have to pay an extra $2.99 per month. Paramount has set a release date for its untitled sequel to the surprise horror hit Smile. It will be released Oct. 18, 2024. Paramount also set a date for the musical adaptation of Mean Girls, which will debut on Jan. 12, 2024. It previously was intended for Paramount+ but has been upgraded to a theatrical release. Lionsgate has released a new trailer for The Hunger Games prequel film Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The film is set to hit theaters on November 17th, despite the ongoing actor's strike. During what is expected to be the worst weekend for theatrical ticket sales so far this year, Expendables 4 landed only $8.3 million in its opening weekend, representing the worst opening for a film in the franchise. It was narrowly bested by The Nun II, which continues its reign at the September box office. Gareth Edwards' hotly anticipated sci-fi epic The Creator has finally been unveiled for its first audience, with a press screening taking place last week. Judging by the early social media reaction from journalists and critics, there is almost universal praise for the way The Creator looks and the stunning work of cinematographers Oren Soffer and Greig Fraser. Many of those who saw the film last Monday described it as one of 2023's best films. The movie releases this week on September 29th.

Someone's trying to break through....In episode 0 of Doctor Who: Redacted, a mysterious woman calling herself the Doctor is trying and failing to contact Earth. Her friends are disappearing; being redacted from reality. And if you remember her? Then it's going to get you, too. Click through to our programme page for episode transcripts. Charlie Craggs, Lois Chimimba and Holly Quin-Ankrah are Cleo, Abby and Shawna – three best friends and university dropouts who make a truly terrible conspiracy podcast together. Their favourite conspiracy? Is this one random blue box actually an alien spaceship? Obviously not. Right…? Cleo Proctor got kicked out at 16 when she came out as trans to her Mum. Now she's living with her brother, saving up for surgery and working front of house at the Queen Vic Theatre. A class clown who never takes anything seriously, Cleo's big heart gets her in no end of trouble. Abby McPhail is a full-time carer for her Mum in Glasgow. She wants to do something amazing and leave her mark on the world. But her Mum needs her, and she can't leave home. Brilliant, driven, ambitious and intelligent, Abby is the research powerhouse behind the girls' investigations. Shawna Thompson is the only woman on her Computing course at college in Sheffield. Group skeptic, Shawna doesn't believe in aliens and magic. But she does the podcast because Abby asked her to. Fiercely protective, loyal, and endlessly exasperated, Shawna tries to keep Cleo and Abby out of trouble. Brand new audio drama from Juno Dawson, with a debut performance from trans activist Charlie Craggs. Full of beloved names and characters from Doctor Who – including Jodie Whittaker, Jemma Redgrave, Ingrid Oliver, and Anjli Mohindra – and a host of amazing comedy talent including Doon Mackichan, Jacob Hawley, Ken Cheng, Alasdair Beckett-King, Kieran Hodgson and Ambika Mod. #DoctorWhoRedacted

In this Father's Day episode special I am speaking to theatre legend, Thelma Holt. At 89 years old, Thelma is an encyclopaedia of stories and anecdotes, and, coupled with a fascinating life and career, she really is the dream guest for any podcast - so, I was delighted to hear we both lost our father's at the same ripe old age of 7, and I could get her onto mine. Thelma, a graduate of RADA and co-founder of the Open Space Theatre, became director of the Roundhouse in 1976 before joining Peter Hall at the National Theatre as commercial producer. In 1987 she received the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement for her international work at the National. She received a second Olivier Special Recognition Award in 2020.   After leaving the NT, for Peter Hall she produced Orpheus Descending with Vanessa Redgrave and The Merchant of Venice with Dustin Hoffman in London and New York. Her inaugural production as an independent producer was Three Sisters with Vanessa Redgrave, Lynn Redgrave and Jemma Redgrave. Subsequent productions include Tango at the End of Winter (directed by Yukio Ninagawa) and Hamlet both with Alan Rickman in the leading role, A Doll's House with Janet McTeer, which won four Tony Awards, The Clandestine Marriage with Nigel Hawthorne and Kean with Antony Sher.   She represented the Cameron Mackintosh Drama Fund at Oxford University for 20 years, is an Emeritus Fellow of St Catherine's College and became a Distinguished Friend of Oxford in 2006. She was delighted that Cameron Mackintosh named a bar at the Noel Coward Theatre as a tribute to her in 2019.  As Associate Producer for the RSC she has, with HoriPro Inc, toured Japan with the RSC's productions of Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream. She co-produced in the West End the RSC's five Jacobean plays, The Taming of the Shrew and Tamer Tamed, All's Well That Ends Well, The Crucible, The Canterbury Tales, Imperium, Don Quixote and most recently Kunene and the King. In Japan she co-produced with Horipro Inc. The Merchant of Venice and Anjin – The English Samurai, both directed by Gregory Doran. Thelma was producer for all of Yukio Ninagawa's productions that were performed in the UK for a period of 30 years, including his final memorial production of Macbeth at the Barbican in 2017. In recognition of her promotion of Japanese theatre, she was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Emperor of Japan. This bio merely scrapes the surface of Thelma's life and achievements - as does this episode - due to the fact that, as Thelma puts so brilliantly towards the end of the episode, ‘life is a hell of a lot of fun'. And fun she has had. I feel very lucky to have Thelma Holt on Daddy Issues Podcast. It's a few days late, but MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast is back to wrap up the final day of 2018's edition of the amazing Gallifrey One convention.  It was a day that transcended, due to an amazing panel called "Gallifrey Waits No More" featuring all of the ladies of Doctor Who (in front and behind the camera) at the convention (and moderated by the amazing Deb Stanish) that turned into a cathartic and harrowingly real and emotional session.  We talk about that and our reactions on this podcast (and we'll go in more detail on this and Gally in general with guests in the weeks to come).  Also, we talk about Alyssa Franke's heartfelt recap of the panel, and there's a link here to that post: Whovian Feminism on GWNM.   We'll also talk about the great Kaffeeklatsch with Rachel Talalay and Sarah Dollard that we were fortunate enough to attend; Will's meet-and-greet with Jemma Redgrave; and all of the rest of the Sunday goings-on. Episode 38 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the trio of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) and Legeon (@legeonhenderson) reunite for a unique  and an amazingly fun podcast.  People were talked over, voices were loud, agreements were not made across the board, but we think you'll agree, this is a great episode of the Alhambra Podcast. We start and stop the podcast with Doctor Who and Big Finish news, thanks to www.doctorwhonews.net for the up to date DW news! We discuss the revealed titles and authors for series 10 of the new series of Doctor Who.  Then we discuss Adric's return for 2017 and the reveal of Big Finish's Novel Adaption of Cold Fusion, which will feature the 5th Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan, Adric, 7th Doctor, Chris Cwej, and Ross Forester.  We transition to possible adaptations like Lungbarrow, but continuity of the Virgin range is brought up.  So we use a segment of an interview from Gallifrey Stands Podcast. featuring the Doctor Squee and Paul Cornell.    Thanks to @DoctorSquee for the use of his interview with Paul Cornell. The full episode can be found on the Gallifrey Stands Podcast on PodBeam.  Click the link to listen to the full episode of this fantastic podcast.  http://gallifreystandspodcast.podbean.com/e/gallifrey-stands-ep57-the-new-adventures-of-paul-cornell/   Once we finally get to the reviews (around minute 20 or so after our nice on and off topic discussion), we begin with the Big Finish Main Range release #213, The Two Masters, written by John Dorney and starring Geoffrey Beevers and Alex Macqueen as the Master, Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor.  Hijinks ensues during our reviews of the main range as well as the Fourth Doctor Adventure, #5.06, The Trouble With Drax. Next, we move onto the Companion Chronicles series 10, The Second Doctor Volume 1 box set, with four great stories featuring Ben, Polly, Jamie, Victoria, and Zoe.  We compare this release with the First Doctor release from last June.  From Doctor Who to the spin-offs, we first look at Torchwood #2.4, Moving Target, written by Guy Adams and starring Indira Varma as Suzie Costello, followed by Torchwood: Shutdown, starring Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver, featuring the writing of Matt Fitton and Andrew Smith.  Our non-Doctor Who reviews begin with Liam waxing poetic on Dark Shadows 50th Anniversary full cast audio Blood and Fire and the short story Echoes of the Past. We finish June's Big Finish releases by reviewing series 4 of the classic British TV program, Terry Nation's Survivors, Ken Bentley, Louise Jameson, Christopher Hatherall, and Matt Fitton, pen this amazing four part story, bringing us back to day one of the outbreak, with the point of view of the high class, Parliament and British Prime Minister, then a nice but odd utopian community. We end with Legeon sharing his new audio love, Spiteful Puppet Productions.  He's previously mentioned the Hood range, however now shares his enjoyment of Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse. Stay tuned past the legal stuff to listen to a minute sample of Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse. Here's a link to Spiteful Puppet productions. https://www.spitefulpuppet.com/shopp.php Audio Only Review list - Spearhead from Space (recorded, post-production needed); The Web Planet (recorded, post-production needed); Dragonfire (to be recorded in July); The Power of Kroll (to be recorded in August); finally The Daemons (to be recorded in September).  Please stay tuned for those releases, and further releases when we focus merely on the strength of the story and storytelling, and ignore the visuals.   Please email the show at: alhambraaudio@gmail.com Tweet the show: @AlhambraPodcast or @djNezumi or @Mavic_Chen Visit our website: AlhambraPodcast.weebly.com

00:00 The Who Wars Podcast Theme 00:48 The Front Page; Rob @WhoWars kicks off this episode with discussion of this being an epic-length episode and the nature of audio fanzines; turning 40 years old (Rob, not Who Wars); trying to get ahold of TV footage from 1988 where Rob appeared on ABC Television in Australia on a Doctor Who quiz, dressed as the 5th Doctor; we have a new reviewer this episode - Matt @swcanonrebel and we'll have another reviewer starting soon; acknowledgement that there are three interviews in this episode and don't forget the interviews tab on the Who Wars website; also our own Alan @jedizaugg has started a Star Wars chat podcast, Idiot's Array; we may have another podcast coming to the Who Wars Network soon; and in a shocking Rob-almost-forgets-moment, we have a current Doctor Who writer interviewed on this episode - Peter Harness. 08:30 FEATURE – STAR WARS – Cute overload! Al Nowatzki from ChildrenOfTheForce @ForceChildren sends us an MP3 where he sits down with his two kids, Anna and Liam, asking them, "Why do you like Star Wars?" 12:25 INTERVIEW – DOCTOR WHO – Andy @skaromedia talks to TV and film writer, Peter Harness, who not only wrote 'Kill the Moon' for Series 8 of Doctor Who and a currently unnamed episode for Series 9 (featuring the return of UNIT, Jemma Redgrave, Ingrid Oliver and the Zygons), but who also recently adapted Susanna Clarke's novel "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" into a television series of the same name. This interview ranges far and wide over his career. 41:16 FEATURE – STAR WARS/DOCTOR WHO – Kate @Kamiduu is on the show floor at Phoenix Comicon @PhoenixComicon and tells us what she's seen and what she is preparing for the next episode of the show, which will include interviews with Star Wars author Chuck Wendig @ChuckWendig ; Doctor Who TV and book writer Paul_Cornell @Paul_Cornell and Yoda voice artist, Tom Kane. Good work, Kate! 49:29 FEATURE – STAR WARS – Rob @WhoWars makes good on a "threat" he has made many times on Who Wars, ie: to watch the Clone Wars TV series in chronological order. Here, he kicks off by looking at episode 2.16 Cat and Mouse and 1.16 The Hidden Enemy. 1:01:42 BOOK REVIEW – STAR WARS – Matt @swcanonrebel reviews the new Star Wars novel, Lords of the Sith written by Paul S. Kemp and released on April 28, 2015. What did Matt think? Tune in, folks. 1:08:36 COMIC – STAR WARS – Darth Vader #5 (Marvel) by Andy @skaromedia with guest acting by Kate @Kamiduu 1:18:32 COMIC – DOCTOR WHO – 11th Doctor #12 (Titan) by Lex @Lexerness 1:24:53 INTERVIEW – COMICS/DOCTOR WHO – Andy @skaromedia talks to self-described comic creator, illustrator, cat owner and tiny hat wearer - Rachael Smith @rachael_ who also submits one page comics to the @comicstitan range of 10th Doctor comic books. 1:43:26 FEATURE – DOCTOR WHO – In Episode 32 of Who Wars Rob @WhoWars and Lex @Lexerness ran through their favourite 11th Doctor episodes of Doctor Who. Concluding the piece by asking the audience what they thought, Kate @Kamiduu and Jon @nerdstitute have sent in thoughts about their own favourite 11th Doctor episodes. 1:52:05 INTERVIEW – FAN ART/STAR WARS – Kate @Kamiduu talks to pop culture illustrator and Star Wars fan Jeff Victor @jeffvictorart who has worked at Nickelodeon Games and Warner Bros. Animation. Learn more about Jeff and see his art: www.jeffvictor.com 2:24:52 - The Back Page; closing remarks from Rob @WhoWars, followed by an editorial where he talks about the concepts of fan entitlement, fan service and a worrying (to him) tendency for fans to think they are part of the creative process in books, comics, TV shows and movies. Do you agree? Be sure to write in with your thoughts, or record yourself as an MP3 to hello@whowars.net 2:34:32 The Who Wars Podcast Credits (including details on how to get in touch with the show).
