Originally released: August 2012. Just two days after releasing her debut album "The Idea Of Beautiful", Rapsody calls to talk to Special about some of the tracks and her upcoming projects. She spoke about working with Big Rube on "Motivation", as well as the decision to make the letter to Jay-Z inspired "Destiny". Rapsody also spoke about the surprise freestyle from Buckshot of Black Moon. Her track "Good Ol' Love" not only features BJ The Chicago Kid, but Rapsody's own mother. Rapsody also tells about deciding to go to South Africa for the making of her latest video "Kind Of Love". As for the rest of the year, in addition to more videos and touring, Rapsody plans to release four EP's including ones with Eric G and Oh No. Of course, she will also be included on Kooley High's debut album executively produced by 9th Wonder at the top of 2013. We got the chance to chat with Rapsody about a number of topics related to the progression of her career. The 1st, discussing the history of her relationship with N.C. Hip Hop crew “Kooley High”, as well as her introduction to 9th Wonder and the success she’s been able to experience working with the "Soul Council". We also spoke on the influence of “Lauryn Hill” and the impact her music has served to young girls. The talk continued, as Rapsody discussed facing music industry obstacles and her willingness to break the barriers that have held female emcees from getting the same respect as males. We also talked about her absence of making the XXL Freshman Cover and how she’s used the outcome to motivate her career. Fortunately, Rapsody was selected to perform at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards Cipher, and received some great responses about the event. She also took some time to tell us all about the experience. In the past few years, some artists have come out of nowhere to become pillars of the Raleigh/Durham hip-hop scene, while others, once seemingly on the cusp of a breakthrough, have fallen off the map. Only a few have maintained and steadily grown their presence over that time, and NANCE is one of them. Despite growing up in a home where hip-hop wasn't the soundtrack, his older brother turned him onto Dipset and Kanye early, and the rest was history. What began as freestyling at parties eventually turned into actual recorded rap songs with the likes of Raleigh mainstay Drique London and Kooley High's Tab-One, and his new album, “No Excuses,” is the biggest landmark on that journey to date. Last week it debuted in the Top 30 U.S. hip-hop albums in the iTunes store (!!!), marking a major milestone in his career. We had him on the show to talk about the message he wants to send with his music, the great care he takes with branding and merch, and the role of white people in hip-hop, among other things.   With Grammy award winning producer 9th Wonder as her mentor along with being the first lady of North Carolina hip hop group, Kooley High, Rapsody has more than paid her dues as an MC. Respecting her work since first speaking with her back in late 2010, she hasn't let up since her first solo digital release. Already three mixtapes in from Return of the B-Girl, to Thank H.E.R. Now, and most recently For Everything, Rapsody deserves her fair share of credit. On our part 3 conversation, she joins me to discuss how she's evolved lyrically since her first release, how she met her rap hero Jay-Z, and what's it like to blaze the internet waves with 9th Wonder as her mentor.

Last time we spoke we were awaiting the release of her first solo project. Seven months later, Return of the B-Girl hits the net, featuring Jamla label mates, Big Remo, Heather Victoria, and more. She checks in to discuss her new mixtape, working with some of her favorite artists, and plans for 2011.

Rapsody, first lady of Jamla (producer 9th Wonder's label imprint) and Kooley High, has been repping for the ladies since day one.
