If you're heavy into self development and you've set goals before then you might've heard of S.M.A.R.T Goals. It's an acronym giving a goal setter a framework on how to set goals the right way (or apparently) I won't go through what each letter means, you can Google that if you're interested but the R in S.M.A.R.T stands for Realistic. Basically meaning that when you set a goal, it should always be realistic. But here's the HUGE problem about setting realistic goals… Setting realistic goals means that you are creating the goal from the view point of who you are now in this moment and not of the person you can become. And the same thoughts create the same results so if we create a goal thinking the same way we always have then we will just continue to repeat the same results we've always got (or lack there of) In today's episode, serial entrepreneur Jess Williamson talks about what she calls “Fantasyland thinking” and how being delusional about your future and goals is a way to bypass your fears and limiting beliefs that keep you playing small.   You can find more about Jess at: Buy Jess's Book “Unstoppable Success” on Amazon Instagram @jess.williamson8 Podcast Jess Williamson Podcast   Make sure you subscribe to my podcast to stay up to date with episodes I release every week.   If you loved this episode, I'd be super grateful if you could leave me a review which helps me spread this podcast out to more amazing people just like you :)   HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN FOLLOW ME: Instagram: @luke_page   Join our 6 Figure Coaches Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/coachingbizsecrets HOW TO SIGN NEW CLIENTS EVERY WEEK MINI COURSE - FREE mini course sharing the specific strategy you can use to start signing new clients every week and build a $15k per month coaching business. https://www.lukepage.com.au/clients 10 (VERY NON SALESY) SALES SCRIPTS - 10 FREE, 1 liner scripts you can use to ask your audience to get more leads and clients. Pinch me, because I had the incredible opportunity to speak with Jess Williamson on the podcast. Jess is a Business & Mindset Mentor, Speaker, and Author of the book "Unstoppable Success." She's an advocate (and my personal rockstar) for setting delusional, illogical goals and removing any limits to what you can achieve. Starting out as a "shy and quiet introvert," who was underestimated by her classmates, Jess has since founded and run five businesses in the past eight years, delivered a TEDx talk, and continues to inspire with her work.In this episode, we delve into how embracing your introverted nature can lead to incredible success and how setting ambitious, even delusional, goals can push you beyond your limits. We talk about the fear of success, how our subconscious keeps us safe from achieving our wildest career goals, and how we can tackle it.Jess is a true inspiration for any introvert wanting to go places—whether in their corporate career or on their entrepreneurial journey.Links and Resources Mentioned:Jess Williamson's Book: Unstoppable SuccessFollow Jess on Instagram: @jess.williamson8Connect with Us:Follow Awfully Quiet Podcast on Instagram: @awfullyquietpodcastFollow Subtle Careers on Instagram: @subtlecareers

And in this chat, we get to be a bit reflective as opposed to anticipatory. We talk about what the songs mean to her now in the wake vs. the lead-up, and how proud she is of this album. We talk about how her year has gone since then, including touring and the general reaction to these personal songs. We discuss vulnerability and specificity in songwriting, rediscovering her love of her native Texas, and embracing imperfections (and her natural voice) in the studio. She also had a dream about Adrianne Lenker, so, there's that! It was a super fun talk, circuitous in the best way, and I think you'll enjoy it. Thank you for listening.

Growing up outside of Dallas, TX, Williamson was heavily influenced by her late grandmother. Someone Williamson says has not only inspired her music, but has acted as a muse to help express herself throughtout her carreer. Having a deep love and admiration for the late Jimmy Buffett at an early age, Williamson knew she wanted to be involved in music somehow. She began writting reviews and interviewing bands before she herself would soon be interviewed and written about in later years. Having moved to New York in her early 20s for a brief stint, it was there she felt something was changing within her. She later self-released her first two albums, "Native State" and "Heart Song", on her very own label before meeting back up in New York a few years later with the Mexican Summer folks and starting what would eventually become the journey of her life. Her new album "Time Ain't Accidental" is nominated for a grammy and Williamson couldn't be more excited and blessed for all the hard work shes put in over the years and how its finally paying off. The ballad-centric offering will set you thinking of Bert Jansch, Tim Buckley and Gram Parsons, but for a wandering new generation looking to get engaged by something/anything. As he sings on Illusion: “That's a pretty arrow, you know I need an illusion. I have no need for one like mine.” Casting off a half dozen snakeskins from a long apprenticeship on Tucker White's Chthonic Records in The Great Salt Lake City — Burton signed to San Francisco's Tompkins Square after seeing that they were kindred about what music did and does. Burton also felt this instant connection with producer Jarvis Taverniere (of Woods, prod. Whitney & Purple Mountains) Recalls Sam: “Jarvis saw me play a set at Golddiggers with Justin Sullivan and offered to record me. We met and talked about it and he seemed to be on the same page about how to treat the songs. Jarvis pushed me to make some of the songs a little more accessible and would hear a hook in someone's playing and have them lay it down. He has a great ear and would come up with great melodic bass parts on the spot.” He spent a month and a half last year playing pre-quarantine guitar for Jess Williamson's band all over Europe for her record, Cosmic Wink. But now things have become pretty quiet out of necessity.” Excerpt from https://www.highroadtouring.com/artists/sam-burton/ Sam Burton: Bandcamp: https://samburton.bandcamp.com/album/dear-departed Instagram: @samburtonnn Website: https://samburtonmusic.com Records: https://store.partisanrecords.com/release/382818-sam-burton-dear-departed Merch: https://samburtonmusic.com/store The Vineyard: Instagram: @thevineyardpodcast Website: https://www.thevineyardpodcast.com Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Ndle3K... Introducing listeners to her fierce devotion to community and care for the animal world, Keiara Wade, the Compton Cowgirl, considers the ways care work includes the human and more-than-human. Though the connection between humans and animals is often unspoken, it is a vital tie, and Keiara emphasizes the way the specific tie between human and horse can be incredibly therapeutic, healing, and nourishing.  Keiara shares her journey with the Compton Cowboys and her experiences as a Black cowgirl. The Compton Cowboys were founded in 2017 by a group of Compton locals who had grown up riding together.  Recognizing the importance of intergenerational community and influence, Keiara hopes that this program and connection to the horses can continue for generations to come. Compton Cowboys is about so much more than just riding, and Keiara shares the significance of making spaces for young people to feel heard and valued . The respect and accountability necessary for a good relationship with a horse is also necessary for a good relationship with each other. How might animals be our guides and companions in making the world more equitable? Keiara Wade is The Compton Cowgirl of the Compton Cowboys. She is in the process of pursuing her barrel racing career and becoming the first black woman to make it to the NFR. Horses have always been her positive outlet to the traumatic world in which she grew up. She believes in giving back to our younger generations by allowing them the experience of the equine world and possibly leading them away from the streets and gang violence. She recently moved to Houston to accomplish her dream, supported by the Compton Cowboys and the Compton Junior Equestrians program. She is a mother of two children Taylor and Michael. This episode of For The Wild is brought to you by Catori Life. Music by Jess Williamson, Kaivalya, and Sarah Maricha White. "I'm pretty much always thinking about lyrics every day of my life." That quote represents the energy that Jess Williamson brings to this episode of the podcast. Her level of introspection and enthusiasm made this conversation so much fun.But what happens when you're always thinking about songwriting and you can't write a song? Williamson discusses the anxiety she felt during a year-long songwriting draught that lasted for all of 2022 and even into 2023. It eventually broke one day when she "threw the capo on the sixth fret, started playing some chords, and that was it."Williamson's new album is called Time Ain't Accidental, out June 9 on Mexican Summer Records. In 2022, Williamson and Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee  formed Plains and put out their debut album I Walked With You a Ways.

Night Shop - "Let Me Let It Go" from the 2022 album Forever Night on Dangerbird Records. Night Shop is the solo project of Justin Sullivan, who can often be seen hitting the skins as the touring drummer for Kevin Morby, in addition to playing with Waxahatchee, Hand Habits, The Babies, Anna St. Louis, and LA post-punk outfit Flat Worms. This past February, he unveiled Night Shop's debut album Forever Night via Dangerbird Records which saw a lot of these prior collaborators give back to their favorite drummer. Early single and Song of the Day “Let Me Let It Go” features Meg Duffy of Hand Habits on guitar, Jess Williamson, Anna St. Louis and Woods/Purple Mountains' Jarvis Taveniere providing engineering and co-production alongside Sullivan so it truly is a family affair. The rollicking horn-laden track its inspiration from Dante and Beatrice's love and “the concept of courtly love,” according to Sullivan. “A journey to hell, the pursuit of art, the Shangri-Las, and finding peace in what is, not how we think things should be.” The video for the track sees Sullivan fleeing directors Jeff Davenport and Cooper Kenward, sprinting through the streets of LA. “I think we just wanted to offer a sense of escape and abandon that comes with both loving someone and also surrendering our attachment to a certain outcome in regards to that love,” Sullivan explains. “I'm just trying to get at the proper expression of a feeling; in this case, a deep yearning. So I think visually, you want to complement that sense. A desire to see and feel everything and escape from the smallness of your own thoughts.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
