DJ Khalil gets us out the starting blocks for 2024! We shouldn't mention his work as a DJ (not because we're in denial of his skills, trust me- we aren't! And that opinion is based on our experience of him behind the decks!) because we spoke about writing emails, paying our bills, art, his cat and music. All these topics were simply a pretext to laugh out loud and vibe with a kindred spirit. Get to know your DJ as a human in this episode. Brian Alexander Morgan is an American record producer that was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, United States. He was discovered by Club Nouveau founding member Jay King, who got Morgan's group a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records in 1987. When his group's album failed to chart, they were dropped and Morgan was mentored by producer Robert Brookins. Morgan was also labelmates with singer Chanté Moore at Warner Bros., but her album never saw the light of day due to Jay King losing the production deal over the failure of the second Club Nouveau album. Morgan- who had feelings for Moore- penned the song "Weak", which later became a hit for R&B group SWV. He originally intended to use the song for Charlie Wilson. In the early 1990s, Morgan wrote and produced songs for Lalah Hathaway, Martha Wash, and Usher, among others. Outside of R&B, Morgan also worked in house music in the mid 2000s. Around the early 2010s, he was summoned by DJ Khalil to work on a few projects with him. Khalil's desire to work with him caused Morgan to relocate from Sacramento back to Los Angeles. Due to the move, Khalil and Morgan worked on Aloe Blacc's major label debut Lift Your Spirit. #BrianAlexanderMorgan #SWV #90s

Just Buy Less Coffee, Answering the Deeper Questions of American Politics

This week we had Brian Alexander Morgan join the conversation, a grammy nominated song writer and music producer who has produced records for Drake, Nas, Usher, Martha Wash, Kanye, and Aloe Blacc along with his partner DJ Khalil. We discuss how streaming has affected the music industry, the dangerous impact of misinformation on our Republic, how organized religion affects our perception of truth, and how white allies can stand up for the BIPOC community, all for less than the price of a cup of coffee.

During the last year of school, Chin Injeti recorded an indie album of the band in a home studio built by his father & brother. That CD ended up selling 70,000 copies and served as his introduction to the music industry! The band (by then known as Bass is Base) went on to gain fans all over the world and garnered a deal with Universal Music and Island records in the United States. Fronted by Injeti, the group won a Juno (Canadian Grammy) for best R&B record, a Much Music Video award for a song called “Funkmobile” and Chin was awarded with Songwriter of the Year from SOCAN. With many years of creating, touring and performing all over North America with the likes of The Fugees, The Roots, Jamiroquoi, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and so many more, Chin learned the craft of carving out frequencies and the importance of an impactful lyric and melody. For years he just listened and watched until he was able to take a selfless approach to his craft, where he put the song and the artist before everything. His purpose, indeed, became crystal clear when Injeti teamed up with then partner DJ Khalil; with whom he made music with and for the likes of Dr Dre, Eminem (“Recovery,”and “Survival” which he later won 2 Grammys for), Drake (“Fear”), Pink (“Here comes The Weekend”), Aloe Blacc (“I’m the Man,” “Can You Do This”), The Clipse (“Kinda Like a Big Deal” feat. Kanye), Lecrae (“Mayday” and another Grammy win), K’Naan (“Waving Flag” and another Juno award) and so many other artists. Injeti’s impact on music was slowly taking shape with millions of records sold and Gold & Platinum plaques as evidence, and, perhaps most significantly, his being able to pick and choose the artists that he wanted to work with. Chin Injeti is a force of nature - an inspiration, a teacher, mentor, leader, innovator, singer and multi instrumentalist, writer, collaborator, student; and yes, Icon.

Big Sean's highly anticipated new album Detroit 2 is finally available everywhere today. It's been a long journey for the rapper to get this new album out to the public but it looks like the wait was definitely worth it as Sean has delivered a solid piece of work. Detroit 2 runs 21 songs which includes three “stories” from Dave Chappelle, Erykah Badu and Stevie Wonder — a concept he adopted on the original Detroit back in 2012. The star studded album features Eminem, Lil Wayne, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Wale, Jhene Aiko, Young Thug, Nipsey Hussle (on the standout ‘Deep Reverence‘), Eminem, Anderson .Paak and many more. As expected, the Detroit emcee's good friends Hit-Boy and KeY Wane handle bulk of the production. But there are more names too: Mike WiLL Made It, DJ Dahi, Cool N Dre, Boi-1da, DJ Khalil, Teddy Walton plus more. For full show notes: https://woddity.com/debating-racial-diversity-in-crossfit/So here we go. Diversity in the CrossFit community was a topic we worked hard to cover in the month of February and now it's back and for a much darker reason.Good morning and welcome to the WODDITY podcast for news about CrossFit. We are a daily podcast, Monday through Friday, doing CrossFit news in five minutes or less.My name is Ben Garves and today is Monday, the 1st of June, 2020. Don't forget, links to all of these stories are in the show notes of your friendly neighborhood podcasting app, as well as on the new WODDITY.com.Let's give you some background. In December I began reaching out to prominent members of the CrossFit community - 30+ athletes, hundreds of gym owners, top officials at CrossFit Inc., and some of the highest-profile members of former CrossFit Media staff. In total, one gym owner agreed to participate, two major members of the media, and four athletes. The rest were unresponsive, and so began the fall of the series. By the time February rolled around, the idea of a month-long series talking about diversity was in shambles. CrossFit's official stance was that I was gaslighting and shouldn't write about the topic. Both members of the media, after agreeing to participate, had stopped returning my messages. Every athlete I had spoken to, who seemed so excited to contribute, had ghosted me now that it was time to have the conversation. One man, Marcus Lowther, an affiliate owner, author, and now a person I consider to be a friend, had the courage to speak up, even when those with the greatest voices in the community didn't. As a side note, Lowther has some great fitness childrens books which can be found at cartoonfitcomics.com if you want to support him. He wrote in his blog (marcuslowther.com) Saturday about his experience with the world's reaction to George Floyd's horrendous death. He looks at Lyrics from the DJ Khalil song “Elevate”, which says “I gotta go high, I gotta elevate.” He pairs that with Michelle Obama's 2016 speech, quoting, “When they go low, we go high”, and he asks himself if there even is a high road right now. He writes, “We have posted protest videos and hashtags and donated to campaigns and fought for a bigger voice and created inspiring music and art and poetry. But here we are.”He talks about the parallels between this moment in America and the story captured by Todd Philips and Juaquin Phoenix in Joker. He says, much like Joker, America is standing on the hood of a police car, watching the anarchy and chaos it has unleashed.Lowther writes, “Forget the high road, let's just find an actual road.”It's hard to say there was one catalyst for why this conversation is now so important in the CrossFit community. It could be a decade of silenced voices finally able or willing to speak up. It could be the largely one-sided voice and evangelical moral leadership of some of our greatest CrossFit athletes and community members. It could be the political divide caused by that rift and the silence of a growing number of progressive gym members around the world. It definitely has something to do with the atrocity that was the death of George Floyd and hundreds if not thousands of police brutality cases in the United States, the racially-motivated atrocities that came out of Jim Crow laws as early as the 1860s, and let's just say it: the dark history of this country and slavery...

**TO LISTEN OR DOWNLOAD SEE THE END OF THE SHOW DESCRIPTION!** On this windswept overthrowing of tyranny we have: Pete Rock steps onto the show in one of the most coincidental and fortuitous ways possible, exploring his forthcoming releases in 2011. We dig deep regarding his album with DJ Premier, his full collaborative album with Nas, an all new Pete Rock & CL Smooth album, a potential collab long player with Madlib and his forthcoming self-produced Smif N Wessun album. In addition to all of this he expresses his desire to work on something more substantial with fellow-guest, Nottz as well as hos own solo releases this year. A true Conspiracy moment that's too good to miss. Nottz drops onto the episode to reveal all about his future work with a who's who of hip hop artists. As the world patiently awaits any glimpse of news regarding one of hip hop's most anticipated albums, Nottz takes us on an informative journey regarding the creation of Dr Dre's Detox. We talk track names, track order, featured artists and those producers who are handling production on the soon-to-be released Detox album, including himself, Jake One and DJ Khalil. In addition to revealing that he produces the first track on Detox, featuring The Game and Busta Rhymes, Nottz talks us through hearing the original, now shelved version of Detox, an album Nottz claims was created from literally 100s of finished Dr Dre tracks. Want to know how Detox was made? Well here is your answer. Smoke DZA was one of the most refreshingly prolific artists of 2010. He joins us on this episode, full of character, to explore his career including the successes of an independent artist, hip hop's tendency to stereotype, possible future collaborative albums with Devin The Dude, Pete Rock and of course his current work on an EP with Alchemist. 2011 is sure to bring the world a whole sack full of Smoke DZA and it was our pleasure to share this one. What a Kush! MC Eiht is an absolute accomplished pillar of West Coast hip hop. His new album with DJ Premier is set to be one of the most diverse adventures in his massive career, so it was our true honor to welcome him onto this episode to discuss the creation of "Which Way Is West". As wise as you would expect, Eiht analyzes the current West Coast scene, citing socio-political and economic factors as reasons for the hiatus so many artists have taken. He tells us in detail how this is all set top change and with his new group 1st Generation (comprising of himself, Kurupt, King T,Jayo Felony, The Chill, Sir Jinx, Gangsta from The Comrads)and their forthcoming album. Showbiz drops onto the show to talk about the creative process of his new album with KRS One, including the way that KRS always turns up to studios with a briefcase packed with rhymes. We also take a massive exploration of his beat history, the sad news that DITC are now officially no more and the way that Flavor Unit rejected the classic beat that then became "Sound Of The Police". Enemy Soil's epic producer C-Lance takes time out from his busy production duties to discuss all of the projects that he has an active role in producing this year, including Ill Bill * Vinnie Paz "Heavy Metal Kingz", Jedi Mind Tricks "Violence Begets Violence", Diabolic's new album, Doap Nixon, Sicknature and much more - this one is for the hardcore! AND THAT'S NOT ALL! If Verbal Kent’s only long-term interest is to become part of hip hop history, then his latest offering, Save Yourself, simply adds his signature to his application letter for Hall Of Fame status! Whether its collaborations with legends such as Masta Ace, Sadat X, Edo. G One Be Lo solidify his comfort zone or dropping complementary flows over soundscapes from favorites like Pete Rock, Marco Polo, Apollo Brown, !llmind, Verbal Kent is on a mission. In this accomplished and ambitious interview, Verbal Kent reaches out to you, the listener, to salvage yourself from sleeping on his work, addressing such topics as the making of Save Yourself, collaborations, time management versus quality, fans. He also leaves the interview with the promise to bring UK legend Blade, back out of retirement. Slaughterhouse's Joe Budden is with us to address all of his recent issues and problems including signing to Eminem's Shady Records, the lack of importance of the Wu Tang Clan, his 6 page Wu diss record that he will never release, his break up and so much more in a truly emotional riverboat journey through the life of hip hop's most colorful man. Kool Keith is as personal as you will ever hear for an enlightening 30 minute tap dance through his opinions on the industry, Kayne West, secret societies, Russians, shoes and of course his new record Bikinis and Thongs. Fans will love this. Brother Ali takes time off stage whilst on tour to deliver a typically meaningful and heart-felt interview regarding the concept of 'Us'. We push Ali to not only talk about unity and the personnel that makes 'Us' but also the more risky topic of 'Them'. You will appreciate his album more after hearing this. Mark Curry, ex-Bad Boy artist and author of the book 'Dancing With The Devil' comes onto the show and gives us all a chilling account of life with P Diddy, explaining fully why he considers him to be an evil and a puppet for much darker forces. "That Lucifer isn't such a nice guy" he muses, as we tackle free masons in hip hop and their hold over our culture. Listen to this for your own safety. No Limit Records mogul Fiend, slinks into the studio to reveal all about life at No Limit, including studio sessions and facts never discussed until now. Chase Infinite pounces out on us to talk Soul Assassins, DJ Khalil, government intervention in hip hop and much more in a very lively and exciting interview piece. AND THAT'S NOT ALL! Joe Conzo, the legendary hip hop photographer, shares his vast experience with us as we reminisce but ultimately pick out the problems within our culture and discuss how we can change. Together, Conspiracy Radio and YOU will change all of this. Enjoy and let us know you listened!
