"My analysis not only allowed me to grieve [my mother], with my analyst patiently pushing me in the direction of my feelings, but it radically transformed my life. I wouldn't have had kids if I hadn't had my analysis because I thought ‘I'm an ambitious person, I want a career, you can't do everything'. I didn't know any models of women who had a career and enjoyed motherhood. In my analysis I learned just through analyzing my own dreams and free associations, that this was all a rationalization. I was a very maternal person and I had the unconscious belief that if you become a mother you die. Once that was conscious, I talked to my husband who was excited about the idea about having kids. We had our two daughters, and so my life is in very concrete ways radically enriched by my psychoanalysis. So I went into the field with a deep conviction of how therapeutic this process is and it's been kind of a straight line from there." Episode Description: We begin by describing the arc of learning that characterizes our psychoanalytic life journey. The oral tradition starts with our first supervisors and extends from there to study groups and to becoming a supervisor oneself. Nancy shares with us her professional trajectory from being an eager college student first encountering Freud to becoming a best-selling psychoanalytic author. She relates the transformative experience of her own analysis, the steps of maturation in her clinical work, and how she has faced the traumas of older age. We discuss the role that students have in relating to their more experienced colleagues and we close with her sharing her hope for our field's future. Our Guest: Nancy McWilliams, PhD is Visiting Professor Emerita at Rutgers Graduate School of Applied & Professional Psychology and has a private practice in Lambertville, NJ. She is author of four textbooks (on psychoanalytic diagnosis, case formulation, therapy, and supervision) and is co-editor of both editions of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual. Listen in as we unravel the eerie tale of the Headless Lunatic of Lambertville. This small town legend takes us back to mid-20th century Lambertville, introducing us to a reclusive man named Barnabas McNeil, a motorcycle enthusiast whose solitary existence was disrupted by urban expansion. The unsettling story unfolds as Barnabas transforms into the vengeful Headless Lunatic, his wrathful journey ending in a chilling tragedy. We follow his spectral motorcycle rides under the moonlight, his jack-o'-lantern head casting an eerie glow, instilling fear in those who cross his path. Our narrative continues as we explore how the legend of the Headless Lunatic evolved over the years, becoming a part of Lambertville's dark history. As a group of thrill-seekers confront the spectral figure, they experience a surprising shift in the haunting tale. They sense a profound sadness in the apparition's presence, an endless cycle of rage and despair that seems to long for release. What follows is a poignant attempt to release Barnabas's spirit from his own fury. This captivating episode of Ghost concludes with a powerful message on compassion, understanding, and redemption. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5960964/advertisement

She is a great listener and now shares reality-based strategies for imagining your own imperfect, fulfilling life.” – Martha Hennessey, Former New Hampshire State Senator / House of Representative “This is the book for a mom who wants a second jet engine to embark on her own journey from thinking she will have to wait another lifetime to dream big to knowing she can take steps right now to uncover and do what she would find more fulfilling at this life stage. Melissa writes both intimately and conversationally about topics that many moms around the world can relate to (some dads too). She invites the reader into a personal and deep journey about topics that are crucially important to uncover what would make a mom truly happy to work on...even after the kids are in bed. It was an honor and a pleasure to speak with her for an interview, which she has included excerpts of in this book, too!” - Ken Honda, Japan's bestselling zen millionaire, author of Happy Money: The Japanese Art of Making Peace with Your Money Moms like us with big dreams and school-age kids: For moms like me, the pandemic was an opportunity to re-evaluate and course-correct things in our lives we weren't thrilled with. Coming out of this period, sluggish yet motivated, so many of us can use this book to help us wake up! If you're looking to refresh, reenergize, and yes, reimagine a better version of your life, this book is for you. I loved the hilarious, yet poignant stories about motherhood today and the window into the world of those who've gone for it – and did it. - Macollvie Neel, Brooklyn, NY “The words: imagination, play and fun are not the usual things we as mothers think of when wondering how to get a grip back on our career and I believe it provides a really fresh take and lots of food for thought for mothers reading it. Its tone is so energetic and fresh!” – Alejandra Molina, Coach, Miami, Florida “Melissa is a mom of three with big dreams who tells it like it is. She draws on her own experiences and the experiences of professionals she's interviewed for her podcast to reflect on the plight of the mother. How do women conform to or challenge the traditional “mom script”? If you're a mom, what can you do to break the “cultural glass ceiling” to be yourself and a great parent, all without having to force yourself into a mom mold that doesn't fit you? Melissa is like a great friend, honest and wise and funny, telling you about her life and asking you to reflect on yours. This book is a great purchase for moms in every stage of life.” – Maureen Turner Carey, Librarian, Austin, Texas “In her book, Melissa shows us that motherhood does not have to be a pause or an end to your pre-child self. With guidance from her podcast guests, she encourages us to think big, find what lights us up, think big, and move towards our goals with the steps that fit the reality of our lives as they are today. In doing so we honor and inspire our child(ren), and our own inner child.” – Katherine Dzierzynski, Museum Group Sales, Forest Hills, NY

Her sister, Gerri, moves from Philadelphia to Lambertville, New Jersey, to support her sister and start a new life of her own. Together, the women search for a murderer, helped in critical ways by their neighbor's cat. A black cat with white paws. A cat whose independence sets it all in motion and sees it through to the end.

I've been looking forward to interviewing Lou Toboz of the Lambertville Historical Society. I've loved the small New Jersey city for many years now. It's a great place to visit and live, and I finally had the chance to catch up with Lou to hear more about the city, its history, and the many things that make it a wonderful destination for a day or a lifetime. About the Lambertville Historical Society The Lambertville Historical Society sponsors events and activities that promote community awareness and appreciation of Lambertville’s history and architecture. The Lambertville Historical Society also maintains and manages the James Wilson Marshall Museum at 60 Bridge St. in Lambertville. We also collect and preserve items of historical interest and make them accessible for public research.
In last week's episode, Kyle couldn't help himself as his curiosity grew about their unusual guest at Passion House, the elderly gentleman Joseph Garland. A man of few words, he'd only told them he was in Lambertville to research his family history. But is that the truth? And is it any of Kyle's business? Meanwhile, literary icon Gladys Finch stewed in an upstairs suite with her wife Carol while she imagined a spectacular revenge on their housemate Harold Finch. Fasten your headphones as we return for three more chapters.
Welcome to episode #3 of the Mark McNease Mysteries Podcast, Audio Mysteries and Fiction. Episode #3 continues my reading of Reservation for Murder: A Kyle Callahan Mystery, with chapters 6, 7 and 8. Kyle and Danny have officially started their new life in Lambertville, New Jersey. Their bed and breakfast is up, running, and fulling booked, with two big-name and big-ego authors staying there while they attend a writers convention in town. But will the friction Kyle perceives between them turn deadly? Do they even know each other ... and if they do, how? Meanwhile, house staff Justin Stritch and Patty Langley set about being their most efficient selves, though trouble seems to be motioning to Justin from a guest room. Will he answer its call?
Welcome to episode #2 of the Mark McNease Mysteries Podcast, Audio Mysteries and Fiction. Episode #2 continues my reading of Reservation for Murder: A Kyle Callahan Mystery, with chapters 3, 4 and 5. Kyle and Danny have left New York City and moved to quiet, quaint, and now mysterious Lambertville, New Jersey. They've opened their bed and breakfast, Passion House, and the place is booked solid with a writers convention in town. Two of those writers, Harold Summit and Gladys Finch, are staying at the house, along with an odd elderly gentleman in search of his past. Follow along as we continue their journey toward murder and mishap, with egos clashing and death heading up the walkway. Fasten your headphones and enjoy the listen as I narrate the first three chapters of Reservation for Murder. I'll be releasing one podcast (three chapters) each week, for a total of 56 chapters. So click 'play,' close your eyes, and let's take a ride on the mystery train.
And we're off! Welcome to the Mark McNease Mysteries Podcast. This is the first of many coming episodes in which I narrate my own mysteries and short fiction. What better way to launch this venture than with the first three chapters of my newest book, Reservation for Murder: A Kyle Callahan Mystery. It’s been several years since Kyle Callahan sought the help of a New York City therapist to overcome the trauma of his encounter with a serial killer, and just as long since his investigation into a teenage girl’s murder brought down the Manhattan District Attorney. He and his husband Danny Durban have decided to move away, to start a new life in the idyllic river city of Lambertville, New Jersey. They have friends there. They’ll have peace and quiet. They can leave the hustle and bustle and stresses of America’s biggest metropolis behind. They open a bed and breakfast, and soon discover that murder and mayhem are waiting to check in. There’s a writers conference in town, with big names and big egos heading for a clash—and a killing—of titans. No sooner has the ink dried on the guest registry than Kyle finds himself pursuing another murderer, this one closer to home than they’ve ever come. He enlists the help of his old friend and local resident Linda Sikorsky, once a detective on the New Hope, Pennsylvania, police force. The two of them follow one lead after another in a race against time until the shocking truth is exposed.
It’s rather old news by now...but Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are now officially president and vice-president-elect! Woot! And the celebrations exploded. It was another record-setting week of COVID-19 cases across the nation. The U.S. has more than 10.5 million cases and 240,00 deaths as of last night. The CDC is projecting there will be upwards of 282,000 COVID deaths by December 5. Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech announced that in initial trials, they have a COVID vaccine that is 90% effective. We’re still months away from the vaccine being widely available, but the Pharma giant is asking for emergency approval from the FDA to speed up production. Trump’s lawyers got bupkis. Georgia’s presidential elections results are going to a hand recount as Democrats and Republicans gear up for high stakes Senate run-off elections in January. Conservative and corporate Democrats lose their shit on progressives on an election post-mortem conference call. Maybe it’s because they are feeling the impending sunset on their neoliberal paradigm? AOC, having none of it, gives an interview to the New York Times, diagnosing the Dems organizational malpractice. Despite centrists’ attempts to blame black activists and socialism, even Doug Jones and Beto O’Rourke are making the same case. New scientific research published in the journal Scientific Reports, suggests that we may already be beyond the much-feared “point of no return” when it comes to climate change. According to the study, even if we were to stop emitting all greenhouse gasses by the end of 2020, we are still on-track for warming of 3 degrees Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2500. The only hope, according to the report, is a massive investment in carbon capture technology, in addition to getting off fossil fuels. 2020 officially set the record for the most hurricanes in the Atlantic - because of course, it did. New research shows that because of hotter sea surface temperatures, hurricanes and tropical storms take much longer to weaken over land, causing much more damage than storms 50 years ago. Russian Researchers find large areas of methane gas being released from melting subsea permafrost from the sea bed on the East Siberian Arctic Shelf. Yeah, I know, buzzkill. Just needed to be really clear that a Green New Deal is not just a progressive slogan; it’s imperative for a livable future. That so-called “whistleblower” from the Postal Service from Erie, PA that Republican operatives were hanging their hats on in their “voter fraud” cases, tells Federal Agents that Project Veritas actually wrote his affidavit. You remember them, right? You know, the little pranksters that took down ACORN through deceptive video footage? Lawn and Order. Make America Rake Again. In Sod We Trust. Yes, these are just a few of the hot t-shirts you can get from Four Seasons Total Landscaping, the spot that Rudy Juliani and Co. booked to host a press conference in Philly. It was rumored that he stopped off at the adult toy store next door before moseying on over to the crematorium to check out their offerings. That song drop in our intro today is from UK-based comedian, Michael Spicer. You can follow him on Twitter at @MrMichaelSpicer Pennsylvania Republicans are gearing up for show hearings next week in the House and Senate. They will poke and prod the election results to create their own baseless narrative about the 2020 election and use that to curtail voting rights in Pennsylvania for years to come. COVID cases are exploding in Pennsylvania just like the rest of the country. On Wednesday, PSEA called for a shift to remote learning for 38 counties that meet guidelines set by the state departments of Health and Education. The Proud Boys are having a little post-election schism. Yup, white nationalist Kyle Chapman says he’s sick of pretending not to be a Nazi. Apparently, the Proud Boys are too soft for his liking. Some very sad news from Kutztown University. A student was found dead in Dixon Hall, a campus dorm. Four astronauts are scheduled to launch tomorrow from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard a SpaceX crew capsule as part of the NASA and SpaceX Crew-1 Mission to the International Space Station. NASA administrator, Jim Bridenstine says he plans on leaving the agency when Biden takes office. Biden has already announced his NASA transition team, led by Ellen Stofan, the current head of the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum and former NASA chief scientist from 2013-2016. Looks like NASA will re-prioritize climate research and push back the Artemis Moon mission until 2028, a timeline more consistent with the House Science Committee’s proposed bill. Sean took some awesome photos this week and Sean is now having to quarantine. Free Will new releases: Another Roadblock - Helles Bock Lager. This week we present two stories from people who needed a little luck to get by. Part 1: Studying Marine Biology in Florida, Philadelphian Kory Evans feels like a fish out of water... while fishing. Carla Katz is a Jersey born and bred storyteller, comic, and actor living in Hoboken. Her solo show, ANGELINA, debuted at the SOLOCOM 2019 Comedy Festival at the Peoples Improv Theater. Excerpt: "Saigon was a world of crushing poverty and extraordinary beauty. It was a world of streets, villas and brothels, where politics and Intrigue resided between plot and counter plot. It was the world that I grew up in as a ten-year-old child with my military family between 1960 and 1962." Sandy Hanna currently resides with her photographer husband in NYC and Lambertville, NJ.
