The American population is aging. In one century, life expectancy in the US rose from 47 to 78. In 2050, 20% of the U.S. population will be older than 65. With this in mind, we must identify ways to improve the quality of the final days of life. In this episode, we explore how the PA profession contributes to palliative care, focusing on symptom management, quality of life, and communication with JAAPA Authors Rebecca Jones and Natalie Mohammad. Today, we're tossing aside the old-school notions of "skinny" and "thin" and diving headfirst into a revolutionary approach to fitness. So buckle up, because we're about to flip the script and redefine what it means to truly thrive in your own skin. But first, let me hit you with some eye-opening stats that'll have you rethinking your entire approach to health and wellness:Did you know that only 23% of adults in the United States meet the recommended guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities? That's right – less than a quarter of us are prioritizing strength training, despite its myriad benefits for our bodies and minds. Here's another shocker: Research shows that chronic dieting and restrictive eating behaviors can actually lead to weight gain over time, rather than the desired weight loss. Thats right, those that diet all the time and practice restricting their food actually fail about 9 out of ever 10 times. It's time to ditch the crash diets and embrace a more nourishing, sustainable approach to fueling our bodies for success. And get this – sitting has been dubbed the new smoking. But it's not necessarily just the position of sitting. Sitting in a chair in and of itself is not that bad… it's the fact we stay in the same position to what would be an unimaginable amount of time to our great grandparents. With sedentary behavior linked to a host of health issues, including increased risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. It's time to break free from our desk chairs and get moving, friends! So, are you ready to trade skinny for STRONG, and thin for NOURISHED? Are you ready to build a body that's not just about looking good, but feeling unstoppable? Then strap in, because we're about to unleash the power of strength, nourishment, and unbridled badassery!References:Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamiensdCaldera Lab Skin Carewww.calderalab.comDiscount Code: CoachDLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

Exploring the Empowering Facets of Death and Dying Can we truly embrace life without acknowledging its end? This poignant question is at the heart of today's transformative discussion as we delve into the empowering and healing aspects of end-of-life planning. Sharing insights from my years as a hospice nurse and my training in Level 1 Doulagiver's family caregiver training, we explore the importance of creating an after-death plan and voicing our wishes for after we pass, and how this can shift our perspective on our everyday life. Our journey begins with a deep dive into end-of-life care and its many facets. We focus on the need to slow down, be present, and embrace the idea of home funerals - a topic that is often met with hesitance. Through open and candid discussions, we highlight how crucial conversations with family about after-death plans can profoundly impact the grieving process. We also touch on the legal considerations, planning, and the potential healing quality of a home wake. We then move on to the more personalized aspects of after-death plans and celebrations. You're given a glimpse into the myriad of choices available for what happens to your body after death, including eco-friendly options such as water cremation and human composting. We also explore the importance of planning for a life celebration or memorial and the power of leaving behind a special letter or memento. I hope that this conversation inspires and empowers you to take an active role in your end-of-life planning, leading you to a new realization of the joy and beauty of life. Join us as we break the silence around death and dying, and together, let's celebrate life in all its phases. We dive into: (02:49 - 04:11) Grief Healing Through End of Life Training (10:12 - 11:55) Being Present in Grief (16:02 - 16:58) Supporting End-of-Life Choices for Loved Ones (20:01 - 21:45) The Power of Three-Day Home Wakes (26:06 - 26:59) After Death Disposition We want to hear from you!!! NEW SERIES FOR 2024! Sneak preview first episode. I'm going to be honest here - I've reached a stage where I am (in a nice way) non-plussed about elite athletes winning races and setting records. I used to be in awe of these lofty achievements, but I have a lot more in common with and even more awe for the people in the middle of the pack, the back of the pack, and the person who comes LAST OF ALL. So this new series celebrates the ‘normal' ultra runners who come last in some of the UK's most famous races and are quite rightly, very proud of their amazing achievement. Just like us, these unsung heroes have busy stressful lives filled with jobs, kids/pets/relatives, mental and/or physical health issues and injuries. Their training and racing has great highs and terrible lows, but they keep on running/jogging/walking/crawling to that finish line. What did it take? What was their training like? How did the race pan out? How did they beat those cut offs against all odds? And what hard-won golden nuggets of advice can they give to us ‘normal' ultra runners about this race, ultra running and life in general. This episode we speak to the fantastic Lizzie Hughes about her last place on the infamous Arc of Attrition 50 2023, which I am signed up for 27 Jan 2024. I may be the next last place person the way my training has been going! ;) So I need all the help from Lizzie that I can get, and maybe you do too for your next ultra whichever if might be. There are so many things I'm grateful for on this journey, but walking alongside @tripwithellen on her journey and witnessing her transformation has been a deeply profound honor. In this week's episode, I received the gift of interviewing Ellen about her recent experience at the End of Life Training by @going_with_grace . In our conversation, Ellen reflects that some experiences, no matter how short, are life changing. And I could feel this truth resonating so deeply for her. Ellen's reflection takes us on a journey with grief, and fear as our co-pilot. She welcomes them in, and invites us to find new ways to hold and walk with them, so that we can receive their greatest gift: Falling in Love with Life. “I just realized it's not in those crazy peak experiences that we're always searching for that makes life worth living. It's all these tiny little moments that are found in the everyday. Like literally waking up and seeing the sun outside. Or maybe not seeing the sun but seeing fog outside. I mean, that's just as beautiful and mysterious and fascinating, you know? Just being in this body and being in every moment is enough.” Through this experience Ellen has connected with her soul purpose and it's been an honor to witness. Ellen is a Shandong/Taiwanese-American psychedelic death doula who guides medicine journeys, breathwork, sound and somatic root healing. She companions people to face their fears and journey through death portals so that they can live and die, free. She is a resident facilitator for DoubleBlind Magazine, and co-creator of the “Woo Knew.” Podcast. George Stoimenov continues our discussion about healing the inner child - and shares his journey of self-acceptance in the wake of becoming a father. He speaks about the impact of anger on his behavior, coloring his perception of the world, stifling the intimate connection that his children needed from their dad. We dig into the power of expression, the scars of trauma, the importance of forgiveness, and George gifts us with powerful words on the recovery of innocence. He reminds us that anyone who finds themselves living with deep seated anger has the strength to change, that there is nothing forcing us to settle for a compromised version of ourselves.George Stoimenov is the facilitator and developer of 'Life Training for Men' — 'inner integration training' for men who want to improve the quality of their relationships — with others and with themselves. This training is designed to enable men to tap into hidden inner resources within themselves and develop ways of channeling and embodying them in an all-encompassing, holistic, way — in the body as well as the mind; in the emotions as well as the spirit.George also runs group retreats for organisations and men's groups. He is the founder of Men's Corner — an online library for men which contains a fast-growing collection of knowledge for men, created with one objective in mind — men and their ability to live lives of purpose, integrity and meaning. Since 2011, George Stoimenov has has worked with men from various backgrounds: he has provided coaching to business and charity directors, pastors and church leaders, community project managers and men's group leaders; he has also worked in a number of local organisations, supporting young offenders, substance-abuse victims, mental health patients and asylum seekers; he has worked with sex-offenders and people at risk from suicide. He is a qualified coach and mentor, published writer, speaker and podcaster in the field of men's work, men's inner health and wellbeing. Apart from his work in the UK, George has done work with men in Zambia, South Africa, and his native Bulgaria. George Stoimenov shares the story of his youth in Bulgaria, where the beauty of the untamed wilds are enchanting. He speaks about some of the most impactful individuals in his life, from his father who had challenges with alcohol, intimacy, and love, to a preacher in Africa who saved him from the echoes of his past. George closes Act 1 with advice to new fathers on the topics of love, intimacy, and the importance of healing your inner child.George Stoimenov is the facilitator and developer of 'Life Training for Men' — 'inner integration training' for men who want to improve the quality of their relationships — with others and with themselves. At some point in the early 2000s, Chicago police Sgt. Ronald Watts and a group of cops began charging people in and around a now demolished housing project with crimes they did not commit. Even faking evidence of gun and drug crimes. They did this for about a decade. Since 2016, Chicago area prosecutors have moved to dismiss at least 226 convictions all tied to Watts. That's the largest series of exonerations in that city's history. But what's justice and what happens to Watts.5 Things Sunday host James Brown discusses the scale of the problem with USA TODAY Criminal Justice Reporter Grace Hauck, the history of Chicago's police corruption with The Exoneration Project's Sean Star and the impact of of Watts' actions with Shawntell Nile, the sister of the late JaJuan Nile. JaJuan Nile did time in prison after he was wrongfully convicted of cocaine possession.A corrupt Chicago cop destroyed hundreds of lives. Training Your Mind Our mind, when left unattended, is being trained by the world whether we realize it or not. Everything we see, hear, and experience is training us to think a certain way; “This is how I should look”, “This is what success looks like”, “This is what will make me happy”. And the more we consume the content we are engaging in, whether healthy or unhealthy, the more we will create deeper neural pathways in our brain to continue to believe the thoughts we are believing. In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul gives us the solution to creating new, consistently truthful, and healthy neural pathways. It is what Paul calls “renewing your mind”. It is in the process of renewing our minds that we experience what Thomas A. Kempis called, “…a family friendship with Jesus.” That is what we are after together. "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for, which is good and pleasing and perfect." -Romans 12:2 (NLT)- Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. We are on a mission to love all people in Jesus' name so that we may all Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, & Make a Difference. Microcosm Coaching Team Call 01/13/2023 As many athletes on our team continue to get their race schedules ready for 2023, we wanted to start this year's calls off with the question, How does an athlete know when it's time to step up to the next distance and what would an ideal timeline to get there look like? We love this topic because it encompasses so many of our coaching principles, like developing and knowing your why, developing self-awareness, and the compounding consistency principle. From here, we talk briefly about xtraining before going into another in depth discussion around balance. We ask, does balance exist? Is it a worthy thing for athletes to strive for? How can we plan for training blocks that don't go to plan? In answering questions like this, our team seems to always come back to our favorite James Clear quote, “You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your habits.” I hope you enjoy this episode and as usual, if you have any feedback, a question for a future call or are looking for support in your running journey, please visit us on the web at microcosm-coaching.com or contact us at microcosmcoaching@gmail.com
